Post by: Sharpdogs on September 12, 2006, 08:35:06 PM

It's been a really weak week for me... I have ordered quite a few things including a LM Surge and Crunch, a Sebertech M3 and I already got some micras and a LM Juice Kf4.  It's getting harder and harder to keep hiding the new ones from my wife, especially when they are coming in green red and solar yellow!
If I suddenly disappear, you all know why.  Please call 911...

It's been a really weak week for me...

Weak as in unable to resist buying?  Or weak as in you haven't bought as much as you normally do?  If it's the second one, I'd hate to see the bill for a strong week!   :P

Well I'll say this much- judging by the number of new toys I've been getting lately, I am not entirely certain that this website was one of my better ideas!  >:D

Right now I have a Peak LED Solutions Pacific flashlight on the way, with 1AA, 1AAA, and CR2 bodies as accessory.

OH!  I also have a very nice package coming from our very own mcniac.  It contains a Victorinox Scientist, and some very well made leather sheaths.  One is a wet-molded belt pouch for a Victorinox OHT, and the other is a neck sheath for a Soldier.  I can't wait to see those pretties.

You are going to love the OHT sheath.  Esteban's work is really amazing, and he uses really high quality leather too.  Soon I won't be able to afford him anymore!

Here's what I'm waiting on...

Buck X-tract
2 Leatherman Micra's  (Thanks Tim!)
Meyerco Paradox
Stanley Automatic Multi-tool
Carolina X-tool  (made in china.  Looks like one of those Aitor tools... was only $4 and I couldn't resist... hehe)

:o  I'm nearly speechless Esteban......  You have a gift with the leatherwork my friend.  ...and thank you VERY MUCH for the "extra".  ;)

Def, you are absolutely right.  I've seen the pics on SOSAK online, but pictures don't do these justice!!

I know what you mean.  I was trying to accurately show the braiding in the article I wrote for SOSAKOnline, but there's only so much you can see in pictures.  Add to that the fact that Esteban cuts each strand of leather by hand and then braids them together...

Simply amazing work amigo!

thanxs for your kind of words m8s!
so it arrived? cool
i added the bonus so you can use match the sheath with your shoes :p

i am glad you liked em :)

i have to post a few pics from the process one day, but since most of the times i braid cut/prepair the leather i am alone is hard to get good pics from that

Cheers
Esteban

Let me get this straight.  He cuts each strip lengthwise out of a sheet of leather?  DOH!  How the hell?

Esteban, the brown one really is my favorite.  I like how it shows the stress/contours of the leather much better.  It compliments my shoes, belt and camo ARMEE SAK!  ;)  I'll wear the black one on "dressier" occasions.  ;D

I would like to see the process.  I can't imagine how you get this thick, stiff leather to cooperate...

Esteban has submitted some articles on braiding in the past.  They are featured on SOSAKOnline...

http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=90&Itemid=35

http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=35

Unfortunately to do them you need 16 fingers on each hand, and those fingers have to be at least seven inches long!

hey guys is not that hard to do, normally i use a sharp knife and a piece of plastic pipe to cut the leather, the pipe has a straigth cut in the middle and acts as a guide to help cut em straight, i have seen some old braiders here that cut em freehand and always perfect, exactly the size they want.
also after you cut the leather strands you must do another process that is called "devirar" in spanish wich means cut the corners of the strans to make it have an hexagonal section, this permits to braid em properly
another importan thing when braiding is the humidity of the leather, i normally solve this by adding some glicerine soap

the leather is not that stiff before the wet molding and waxing proccess

i hope you enjoy em

just a tip i forgot to tell you, please use some snoseal (or some other trnasparent wax) on the leather lanyads from time to time, but don't over do it.

Esteban

Cool.  I'll try to remember to wax them.

I can't imagine what it would take to damage one of these sheaths.  Nothing better to put a bomb-proof SAK in than a sheath that just might outlast it!

Pentagon L2

Pentagon X3

I would go for the trade myself.  I edc a Charge Ti.  Reasons being, are I like the scissors over 2 bit drivers as you only use one at a time and i thought maybe the crimper would weaken the needle nose

I've been back on a knife kick lately.  I've got a Buck Collectors Club knife on order, plus a Buck Rush, and Buck Nobleman.  The Rush and Nobleman are going to be Christmas gifts.

I'm also waiting on my Buck X-tract to be returned from repair.

I want to order a Spirit, but I'm trying to hold back in case we end up getting Multitool.org Spirits... :)

Always, Ill literally skip college lectures just to sit around at home looking at pictures of the item and refreshing the tracker page, I get totally obsessed. The weird thing Ive found about getting packages into Ireland is that the tracker gets stuck in England sometimes so you're there screaming at the screen for 2 days wondering why the package wont leave Heathrow and cursing the British transport system and then the doorbell rings and it'll be some FedEX or UPS guy, then I play with the thing for a couple of days before forgeting about it ordering something else

(I wont be doing that with the TTI though)

I have a Lumapower M1 "tactical" flashlight on order, and a Rexlight 2.0 flashlight also.

These both have the powerful new Cree XR-E LED emitter in them.  The M1 runs on 2 CR123a batteries and produces 115 lumens, the Rexlight runs on 1AA and produces somewhere around 60-80 lumens.

I am going to start clearing out some of my Luxeon flashlights to make room for these.  Stay tuned for the sale postings here on the Multitool.org.

Currently I have a CRKT M1 Lightfoot folder coming from an ebay seller. I got a killer deal on the knife and am excited since it will be my first flipper.  :)

I also have a Gerber Multi-lite on the way.

I did have 2 CRKT Zilla-Tools and Guppie on order from AG Russell but that looks to be delayed for a good amount of time.

My best guess is that they will actually be in our hot little hands by mid-July.
