Title: What tool at the meet were you most impressed by ?
Post by: Dunc on April 20, 2009, 09:40:14 AM
For a few of you this was your first Multitool meetup and I guess the first time you saw so many knives and tools . So what ones struck a cord with you and are now classed as a must have ?

Without a doubt, I was most impressed by Gareths Throwing Axes.

Those were only eclipsed by my amazing ability to throw them  :viking:

(where is that "Big head smilee"?)

Probably it was the good old one-handed Trekker.  I have a Ranger 78 (roughly Wengers equivalent), great saw, bigger blade but it is far more bulky and not so lefty friendly.  The OHT sits far better in my hand and the liner lock is a doddle for the south paws.  I'm still not convinced by the serrated blade though so if I ever get around to buying one it would have to be a PE, or I'd have to grind the serrations off.

The Buck X-Tract was a big surprise, it's far better built and a lot more solid than it looks on the internet.

BTW mate this is the guy who made them.  http://www.kp-art.fi/jt/index_eng.html
JT is an artist in wood, bone, antler, leather, steel etc.  Now you can see that the axes (lovely as they are) are a step down from his normal work.  One of the reasons I'll never pass the axes on is that I can say I own some of his work.  If you look at the Historical gallery you can see he does other throwing axes so you never know, he might be persuadable.

I will however happily acknowledge that you were by far and away the best at throwing them.  :viking:

N'ah, yours is still quite fluffy :)

However, they do say that men who lose their hair on top tend to have higher testosterone levels, making them ultimately more manly and butch  8)

I think the Skeletool packs the most tool for the least space.  Put a file on it and flip the knife tip into a hook and you have (for me) the ideal LM tool-  Everything I want (plus the RAHsome hook) with minimum weight.

Call it Charge Essentials  :D  :gimme:

I also didn't know what to expect of the humble Skeley but I am truly surprised by how much you can accomplish with it and really enjoy carrying it when I do (which is way more than I thought I would ::) :D )

The Skeletool is probably fine for office workers, but like Ryan pointed out, it's not tool enough for those of us who'd really use them hard :-\
