Hi!
Just wanted to check if anybody did notice the alleged fifth slot (four slots: toothpick, tweezers, pen, needle) on an SAK.
When ordering replacement shells for my SAK, I did notice an area that is formed like a slot but has no opening. Is it possible to open it an place some other tool there (think second toothpick when the first toothpick slot is occupied by a firefly firesteel or something).
I have attached a picture for better understand.

Interesting. Someone more knowledgeable should be by soon I hope.

I think, but may be mistaken, that the cutout is for shortened tweezers on a SAK with the electronic scales like the Traveller lite, as the front scale containing the electronics doesn't leave room for the standard tweezers.
Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly to confirm, correct or expand on this.

Thanks for the welcome.
I'd be willing to test this myself as scales are cheap I will order some more and try making a hole. Then I will shorten a toothpick (doesn't need to be that long, a small 4,5cm toothpick will not fit I guess) and try putting it inside.

Nice! Thank you. Now I need to get ahold of these grips to get that extra slot on my huntsman.

Thinking I want to put short tweezers in the extra slot, bore out the regular tweezer slot and put a rattail file there.

At the link below is a mod that used that slot from 10 years ago. I still own this knife if you need any more pics. The pointed tweezers work really well.

Leave it to MTO yet again. The not so "secret" scale slot. I am surprised this is just surfacing. Is there nothing else that SAK scales would "benefit" from accepting? The fire fly was a neat idea. SAK pencil? SAK micro sharpie?

Rat tail file
Flashlight (in 111 or 130 mm)
Chopsticks (in 111 or 130 mm)

I have opened up the hidden slot using a Dremel.
For forceps I have ordered the short variant and they fit perfectly.
The only downside is, that the firesteel has the handle in the wrong direction so I needed to cut it in shape using a knife.

That's why I'd want a Firefly made for the Tweezer slot. I like the Voyager/Traveller tweezers anyway. You can also re-shape the head on the 58mm style Firefly for the front tweezer slot...but you'd need the short tweezers to help get it out. Not a bad thing to me.

I've seen people cutting down their firefly steel with a saw to fit in a smaller slot, or do you think it will still be too wide/thick?
-
Just the head is the wrong shape for either tweezer location. I wouldn't think there's an issue with being too wide...seems a little loose in the short slot.
