I have never held one so I am wondering if anyone EDC's a OHT. Is it too big or just right? Is it uncomfortable in the pocket or not? Does the blade open easily? Go ahead and fill me in, I feel like I need one but want to make sure my expectations are right on. Thanks.
-
I only tried in store, the blade opens fine, but the liner lock is set up for left hand and I can't do it with right hand as quick and safe as I can a right handed liner lock knife. Pocket carry it really depends on the person and which pocket. Jacket pocket no problem, bub jean pocket it's too big.
-
I have a friend who carries his OHT everyday in his front pocket, but he's a police officer and they like to carry lots of stuff. Personally my OHT is in a sheath, carried in a backpack and used for hiking mostly. For me the OHT is too big to carry in a pocket everyday, but sometimes my cadet is too big for my front pocket...
-
Some time ago I placed an order for a plain edge OHT, but the guy shipping it for me got a serrated one instead...so I dropped the order....sucks I really wanted the plain edge one.
The things that I really find frustrating about the OHT is its weird liner lock and the lack of a pocket clip...so you either get a sheath or just pocket carry it.
I'm still looking for a nice plain edge OHT, just have to wait for a good deal :D and money :(
-
I find the OHT has a great compliment for EDC and the size is fine IMO. The blade does open absolutely fine, but it depends what you are used to as a dedicated Tac folder it is not.
-
I'd edc one if they were legal edc
-
as a matter of fact ive been EDCing my soldier lately, on my back pocket, no problem with the size for me
-
I edc it often, one of my favs, I just pocket carry it, no problems, easy open,
nice size blade, smooth. I want more, Tim!! :salute:
-
Right now I'm EDCing the Outrider which is thicker than the OHT and I don't have a problem with it. I don't use a sheath, I just drop it in my right front pocket and I'm good. Yeah it's a bigger knife but it isn't heavy at all so it doesn't pull my pants down. I will mention I wear loose clothes, if I wore tight clothes it might be different.
-
When I carry my OHT it is in one of these (thanks DEF) ;) http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=77&Itemid=35
Before I got this I would suspend it from a cord and a clip inside my pocket. It rode nicely against the seam and wasn't flipping around loosely and bothering me. :D

Thanks mate...i'll check the site out :)

I adjusted pretty good to the lefty oriented locking mech...I woulden't let that put you off the OHT if you're a rightie. :tu:

I did too!

Got to be honest, I went to a lot of bother pimping the only "left handed liner lock" SAK I have:
... and I find it so awkward that I just don't use the knife at all. I've cut myself once closing it, and it will happen again I'm sure. I suppose now all the lefties on the forum will be saying "Ha - now you know what it's like"!!! :D
-
i kinda develop a technique, i dont feel it odd at all
-
I edc it in my back pocket with a simple leather lanyard. No problems so far.

Well it's funny. Just after typing that post I fetched the knife out and closed it without any drama at all. I think though if I wasn't paying extra attention (like closing it to put back in my pocket one handed after use) it would bite me again.
I feel like I've been harsh now, but I do still like the knife. Especially the scales ;)

i bet you do :D

Thanks for the input. The fact that it is left hand oriented appeals to me, as I have said before I am a right hander that carries knives left handed. It seems like Ill have to leave this on the radar for a future purchase. Thanks for all the input, and feel free to keep it coming.

Thanks for the input.
Even the stuff that was nothing to do with OHTs? :D

De-railing at least one topic is a requirement for full brotherhood/sisterhood on this forum :D

What about de-railing 4490 threads. Sorry 4491 :d

OHT is the best, most capable, all around functional pocket knife I've ever owned.
(There may better ones, but I'm not aware of them and have never owned them.)
I can't carry a OHT loose in a front pocket without it bugging me - just too bulky and heavy for me.
I can carry it in front pocket if it's dangling on a belt lanyard and doesn't rest on the bottom the pocket. I don't really like that mode of carry 'cause it's too awkward for me to access the knife. Why carry a one hand knife so that it takes two hands to access it?
Lately I've been EDCing in my right back pocket in a vertical carry pocket holster I made for it. Top of the OHT sticks out of the top of the holster about a half inch, and rides just below the top of the back pocket, so I can grab it and pull it loose with thumb and forefinger.
Blade opens fairly easily one-handed. Not as smooth and fast as a tactical folder, but works well enough for me. Sometimes I use the "Spydie drop" AKA "New York drop" to open mine. (Pinch the hole between thumb and forefinger and flip the body of the knife downward into the hand.)

I am thinking I will need a pocket clip mod for it. I do not even like my KF4 loose in my pocket.

I tried carrying the OHT in right front pocket for a while, using an improvised pocket clip. Worked out fine, access wise. But, the OHT is a little bit thicker than the other clipped knives I'm used to carrying in right front pocket.
If that extra thickness doesn't bother you, then clipped into RFP is certainly a viable way to carry.
I really wish Vic wouild make a OHT model with pocket clip.
Also, a model with pocket clip and without the woodsaw would be very nice for urban EDC. One less layer would reduce the thickness and weight just enough to make it a more viable right front pocket EDC for me.

Couldn't agree more. I'd love an OH Hunter with a clip sans the saw layer...

Does EDCing a Wenger Ranger count??

There are a few more variants I need to get, like the GAK with the new style hole and locks, and a few more plain edges.
I'm such and OHT freak, I even have a Wenger OHT! :P

Actually the RangerGrip 178, but close enough!

Is that an OHT in your pocket?? Or are you just happy to see me? ::)

Where did you get that from?? The SHOT show?? Or the CAT-MAN??
-
That one as well as a few of the OHT's (two Soldiers and the one that just look like it exists but really doesn't :P) were all gifts from the SHOT Show.
Def

Say Def, apart from the ARMEE OHT does any of the rest also feature a corkscrew instead of the phillips driver?

EDC an OHT?

Is it on the market yet? I tried google but didn't find any.
-
Send Tim a message- I don't think the new Soldiers are available yet, but the limited run '08's are still apparently available on eBay. The '09's should be along soon though.
The red and Stayglo models also have corkscrews.
Oh, and the Micarta one also has a pocket clip! :D
Def
-
Hmmm... I believe they're not production items though... +B or something?
-
European models often exchange the Phillips for a corkscrew.

So will the north america variety have phillips or corkscrew? I prefer phillips personally. I usually carry SAK in left side pocket so the lefty liner lock may actually work out.
