Title: Hook usage
Post by: ghiekorg on September 12, 2018, 07:23:24 AM
Hi everyone
Today, Here where I live, there is paper and cardboard waste collection. In Switzerland one must tie the paper garbage with a string, as it’s not allowed to use bags (not even the paper ones), I guess because it’s easier for the collectors to see that there is no other material in it.
When there is a lot of cardboard it can quite heavy and the strings are hurting on the fingers. So here it‘s handy to have a hook, used in its original purpose (of I am not wrong).
Cheers

P.s. of course, when I was taking the picture, a scavenger came and asked me why I was taking pics of the garbage (here people is really suspicious when they see others taking pictures) so I had also to explain why

This totally explains what the clever engineers at Victorinox had in mind when they dreamed up the hook.  Congratulations on your badge!

We don’t tie our rubbish together here, so it’s something that I would have never thought of in a million years. :tu:

Gar-badge seems more appropriate, given the context  :)

Edit: Yes, I know there's a difference between garbage and rubbish but I couldn't ovawlook the opportunity to make another lousy pun (or two)

Probably more in my mind than in actual use, there might be one. I could be wrong and it wouldn't be a first :D

I tend to see garbage as the smelly, decomposing stuff whereas rubbish designates solid waste.

Garbage + rubbish in the same bin = trash.

By the way, I mean no offense to the OP who used the word garbage

That seems like a reasonable set of definitions.  :tu: I just tend to use rubbish by itself, but I like yours more.

  thank you everyone :)
Actually i don't know any other country that ties the garbage/trash/rubbish. It's also really annoying because i collect it inside a bag and then when the bag is full i have to take everything out and "organize" it

Branches from trees have to be tied up as its the HOA, home owners association, rules. So it does happen here in America too.

Only in America do you have those crazy HOAs.   :P

I know, I know. Some other countries have them too, but they’re not the same.

Normally I would agree with you in a heartbeat on the HOA...but this one actually works to the homeowners side. They have a company that comes and mows, trims the bushes, edges the driveway and side walk. Has a company that inspects your roof every three years. Pool and clubhouse are taken care of. Parking in forced...etc etc. first one I have ever seen work to the homeowner benefit.
