Title: Will Gerber fix this blade for me?
Post by: zrxoa1 on November 01, 2016, 05:36:33 AM
If I send the MP600 Pro Scout back to Gerber, you guys think they'll fix that blade??

You bought it brand new from a store like that?

I'm sure someone has a spare blade.  Is it SOG that sells individual parts?  Would a SOG blade fit?

No...it was given to me by an eBay seller to make up for something.  I was told ahead of time the blade was bad.

Ah, I see  :tu:

Different locking mechanism, it could be modified, but someone over that side of the pond will surely have a spare Gerber blade  :)

Gerber likely would fix the blade- that is what their warranty department does, but it seems a bit unfair to expect them to.  I am glad that someone else is willing to step up and send you a blade, because I just don't see this as a warranty issue- aka, not Gerber's fault.  I know you aren't intending to take advantage of them, but I really hate seeing folks selling tools that are abused then just saying "well the company will take care of it" or worse, expecting Gerber to replace it just so you can sell it.

As I said, I know that isn't your intention, but it is something I have seen played out many times over with a bunch of different people.

Imagine wanting to sell your car, and taking it to a dealership and expecting them to fix everything that is wrong with it, and clean it up absolutely free so someone can make more money off it.  Or replacing it with a current model.

I actually meant cleaning the blade up and sharpening it properly. If they wanted to replace the blade, great. If someone has a nice blade to sell, that would definitely be my first choice. I'm not wanting to take advantage of Gerber, just want to get the blade usable.

I didn't mean to suggest you did.  Just some folks do and that's a frustration of mine.  :D

They would fix it no questions asked. Gerber has the best warranty department out there. I've sent many a tool that I broke and they always made it perfect.

Only time I have had experience with warranty was when I emailed them to ask about buying another screw for my EAB knife and they asked for my address and sent me 3 or so extra  :o Great bunch there :tu: Wished they could update the design about the EAB though as it is very easy to loose that screw  Sorry :b2t:

I have had good results with Gerber's warranty department too.  They have gone above and beyond for me, in providing a replacement spring for an MP800 without requiring me to send it in- although their policy is to not send out parts usually, they were very reasonable and helpful.  I love when a company allows their people to break from the approved operations manual and help people out who would otherwise fall through the cracks.

Well, reading thru the MTO wiki, I see my Gerber is actually an earlier version, the Multi lock Scout.  The MP600 Pro Scout has a Wharncliffe blade, mine does not.

I sent an email with pictures to Gerber. I explained I got the tool with the knife blade already damaged. They replied to send it in and they will still fix it for free!

Awesome!!!

That's great to hear!

I had been wondering what was going on with this tool.  You have to love a company that stands behind their stuff no matter what!   :tu:

Welcome back!

I had three printers that I couldn't give away a little while ago.  They still had ink and everything. I just bought one printer that did everything each of the other printers did individually.

Gerbers customer service is truly excellent. I have been through a ton of companies warranty claims and Gerbers is the best by far. I have never once had a bad experience. I cannot say the same for all the other top companies.

I agree for the most part.  I have only dealt with Gerber's Customer Service once, and they went above and beyond for me, locating and providing a part for a broken, discontinued tool that they sent me, despite them having rules against sending parts out.

And, amongst the other major brands, I have only really had one bad experience, but that has been reasonably well documented here in the past and no reason to bring it back up.

I'm glad to see they fixed it for you!

The MP600 is a great tool and I hope you get lots of use out of it.  I have never babied mine, and it has seen a lot of use and never failed me once.
