Title: This is top secret,
Post by: Zed on October 06, 2010, 10:09:19 AM
Me and angela have been together for nearly 9 years now and we have never had the money to get married as we would of liked, but last month we decided to just go and do it, we are going on the 24th nov, no one in our familiy knows ,we are meeting that evening to what they think is just to celebrate my 40th  ::) they will be in shock, but for once we are doing something for me and angie and being selfish for once in our lives, it might knock a few noses out of joint but hey ho, at the end of the day its our day  :tu: just had to share as i cant tell anyone, remeber this is top secret  ;)

p.S lets hope none of them get into MT's  :D

We have friends who got married without telling anyone.  They even went as far as grabbing two strangers off the street outside the registry office to act as witnesses.

It annoyed some of the family... but they got over it :)

Congratulations :tu:

Congrats!!!!!!! I would say something sarcastic about marriage but honestly getting married to my wife was one of the smartest things I did. Glad to see you're gonna make an "honest" woman out of her. LOL   :pok: :pok:

Congrats!

We made The Day into our Our Day and got married at the courthouse.    :tu:

The families weren’t invited but this was our second marriage and we didn’t want to repeat the BS of a traditional wedding.

It was the best decision we made. $30 spent total and we went out to eat afterwards. No stress. No family drama.  No struggling to meet everyone's expectations.  I highly recommend the courthouse wedding to everyone.

We recently went to wedding where the bride/groom spent about $12,000. We were thinking that money could have been invested in a college fund, or a down payment on a house, or a trip to Europe. Instead,   they spent $12,000 on a bad band, rubber chicken dinners, and a creepy minister.

We were watching some bride show recently while flipping channels and the lady was picking out her dress.  She was asked her price range and she said she would spend up to $10,000, but no more.  Holy crap!  $10,000 for  dress you'll only wear once?  While some are into that, me and the mrs were not.  We had her grandma make the dress for about $300.00 and used the money we saved to go on an 11,000 mile roadtrip!  Yeah!

I think it turned out quite well, if I say so myself!

I never could understand spending so much on a wedding. It would be far better for the married couple if that money went towards a down deposit on a house, etc. I am far too sensible...which might explain why I am still single.

thanks again everyone, i had to share and this was the best place, i sorted the limo and photos today £100 for both from the same guy, we was going to use taxis but that was going to cost £50 for 2 cars and for the trips we needed to make, so this was too good to miss,  :ahhh last week we went into a fancy hotel , the lady was very nice and we have it sorted for a meal after the registry office, the only thing i noticed was her looking up and down my arms (tattoos) although im use to it now after having them for over 20 years, i try to fit in to different social scenes  :D now i need to find a nice cigar for after the meal , cant be too expensive, sugestions most welcome  :tu:

We pretty much did it that way... although we were both living/working in London (UK), my family in Canada, wife's in Spain, so we did a small thing in Chelsea Registrar Office, with co-worker friends as witnesses, and the best part was we didn't tell our employer (we worked for the same company) until afterwards... we called a meeting in the office, and they thought for sure we were going to say we're leaving and moving to Canada or Spain... dragged it out a good long bit before we let them in on the secret... was fantastic... and we spent hardly any money as well...

Congrats  I hope you enjoy this day, and never regret it  :tu:

I don't like those fancy weddings, too. I don't know if my better half will ever marry me, but in case we do, it will be something small, informal. No expensive dress for me (I have some ugly scars on my shoulders anyway, so most of those wedding dresses wouldn't look good on me anyway). Just family and close friends, and some good food.

Sounds like a great plan, I hope it all goes well.

As for the family, try and take a photo as you tell them the good news !

Been married 12 years now. I was a hot June day, there was a lot of rain, it just added to the fun, a perfect british summers day!
