I'd like to see a MT.o ball cap return to the MTO store.
I'm not much of a t-shirt person, but I do love a nice ball cap. Much to Mrs. Nix's dismay.
Nevertheless, let's bring back the ball cap and enable some members to show some MTO affiliation. :tu:

We could do a plain cap with a big patch of velcro on the front. The individual wearer could then affix an MTo patch or a Swiss Army Knights patch to the cap as desired. And the patch could be switched out when a change was needed.

I liked your khaki idea also, but it just seems that there are lots of different "khaki's" out there, and olive drab pretty much stays the same (just google khaki cap and olive drab cap and you'll know what I mean ;)).
And most of my "outdoor" clothes are in OD :D.

The OD MTO one with black stitching, is that only black stitching or the silver/black from the patches ?
I like the idea of black stitching on OD, but I fear it will not be clearly visible (I have an OD cap with in black Navy Seal and the Navy Seal logo on it and it looks real nice, but it's not very "readable" if you know what I mean.

Thread colors are usually a bit of an issue, so an MTO had with one color stitching is going to be cheaper than the Swiss Army Knights hat which technically has three colors- black, red and white. And the embroidery area is a lot smaller than what is shown in MadP's example, so to fit it all in it would have to be very small, and people would have to get a lot closer than any of us are likely to be comfortable with to read it. :ahhh
And stitching on the back.... you don't even want to know how much that adds to the price. Might as well just buy two hats and wear one backwards on top of the first one. :facepalm:
So, realistically, an MTO cap could be as low as $15 US on a preorder plus shipping, but we would have to have a minimum of 30 orders at that price to make that price. After the preorder I'd have to put any remaining hats in the store for $20 US plus shipping.
So, if you want to do this, we need to have at least 30 firm commitments.

Probably more expensive and less selection. :)

Basically a cylinder instead of a dome, and therefore usually softer as well as creating a better fit.
I strongly doubt a lot of people will care, but no harm done, right? :cheers:

That would be very cool.
I'm a big fan of the Tilley or Boonie hat. I like to have some protection for my ears and neck.

And yes, I want an MTO cap, ever since I've seen pics of the "old" MTO caps years ago (long before my younger fellow countryman joined) I've wanted one. I tried the MTO patches to see if I could fit one of them on a regular cap, but they are too big to make it work.
And if there was just a little less talk and a bit more ordering here they were already being made by now :pok:.

Looks good to me :tu:.
I don't really like white on a cap like on the first one, it reflects the light and it gets dirty real easy when you wear the cap for outdoor events.

They are exactly the same hat, and the slight color difference is very likely due to the age of the old hat and many, many trips through the washer and being worn out in the rain.

As G-man says, it gives a little indication of the members who are interested, but not going to jump on this design at this price. The previous poll gave a big range of options with over 40 members voting. But, some of those votes were for alternative designs. If we get 40+ people voting, but 20 of those votes are for "0", we will know we are on the wrong track.
I may be wrong about this. There are lots of reasons someone might vote "0". But a "0" count is some good data and some good feedback. So votes for "0" are appreciated. :tu:

I've got caps from other riders as well, David Coulthard, Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve (one signed by JV himself), Mark Webber ... anyway, enough about that.
I like wearing a cap, and I buy more than 1 (or 2, or 3, or ...) because I have different uses for them. The Kimi Ferrari cap I wore when I went to the Belgian GP F1 for several years has suffered a lot, sweat, dust and rain ... lots of rain. And it's now pink instead of Rossi Scuderia ::).
So here's why I need about 5 MTO caps, 1 for outdoor use (hiking etc... So, sweat, rain, dirt), 1 to wear to and from work (I work in a hospital and I won't even sit in the couch at home before I had a shower, so 1 MTO cap exclusively for work), 1 for every day use (which isn't the same as outdoor use, this one is for normal "urban" use and family stuff). I'll add one to my multitool collection so ... I only have 1 backup...

Get caught in a downpour. Normally doesn't take long in the UK
What's usually quicker is remove it from your head, and within three minutes some ignorant git will have sat on it. At least they do tend to wait till you've taken the hat off...
Quicker still is the mystery stain. Usually something greasy like diesel , cutting fluids, or bacon grease, which won't wash out and seemingly appears from nowhere.
In fact the easiest thing to do would just be to visit my young nieces. It'll get stained with jam and Ribena, slobbered on, chewed, trampled on, battered with a My Little Pony, drawn on, puked on, and I'll probably not even need to remove it from my head for all that to happen...
... and that's just the Sister-in-law...

I used to have some jet fluid, kinda like rainX, but some special stuff and let me tell you, wow, if you got over 35mph you didn’t need wipers! One day I soo needed new blades so I got them, and for some reason the wiper motor didn’t work and of course it rains, and I had to get to work which was an hour drive at the time. But the rain just rolled right off the windshield, and even the birdcrap did once..

I should have posted about this earlier, sorry.
Ball caps will be delayed a bit further. I thought I was ordering from a company in Canada, but as it turns out the company is in the US. I have temporarily put a hold on our order due to the Canada Post strike. At the time, there was over a month backlog of packages coming into Canada, and it was some time after that announcement that Canada Post was forced back to work by the government. Needless to say, Canada Post workers were not amused by this, and I don't blame them one bit for it.
However, due to the giant backlog of packages coming into the country, the Christmas rush, which should be keeping Canada Post employees hopping for a while on it's own, and the potential slowdowns they are likely to experience (purposefully or otherwise) due to working without a contract, I felt it best to hold off on placing our hat order, rather than risk any potential damage or loss.
And that is why hats are held up. If anyone would like a refund, I totally get it, please send me a PM and I will refund your money ASAP.

The right opportunity to order them, and to make sure we get the quality cap we chose in the first place (which is the best way to go in my opinion. I would rather wait a couple of months than to end up with a cap that I wouldn't wear).

The bottom line is, these are currently in a holding pattern that I am hoping will end sooner rather than later. The reasons are a bit convoluted, so bear with me.
This time of year is a busy time for many of these producers as they are busy making team jerseys, hats etc for spring sports teams, so the demand is very high.
Add to that the number of organizations that were also waiting for the end of the Canada Post Strike, and it gets even busier.
The problem is that the hats we want appear to be backordered at a number of suppliers, and so we can't get the color/type we want right now, and I am not willing to accept a different style/color etc. After the crappy 10th Anniversary hats I really don't want to take the risk on something else.
So, we are waiting our turn, which I hope won't be too much longer. If anyone is sick of waiting, please send me a PM and I will refund your money with my deepest apologies for having held onto it for so long.

And since the time I've placed my order here I've already bought 3 caps at local stores, because my current EDC caps needed replacement ... I had hoped to be wearing my MTO cap by now, since summer is here (at least that's what they say, judging by the weather I would say it's autumn ...) and I would love to promote this place over here. I've started wearing my MTO wristband around my neck so more people would notice it, but so far the only person who mentioned it was the paramedic who took it of after I fainted due to a lack of oxygen ...
I'm sure Grant is doing all he can to get us some good quality caps, but it does look like the company from which he ordered them is in no hurry to deliver them, sadly enough ...

Yep, they do have this military look don't they ;).
And they are very comfortable, they have this nice soft padded lining on the inside, which feels great on the forehead, and like I said, you can fold the brim in the middle so it's easy to put them in the backpack, or even in the leg pocket of cargo pants/trousers (I know these words have a very different meaning in the U.K. vs the U.S. so I'm using both :P) when I want to switch to my Tilley T3 Wanderer ;).

Cheers Eric. It was part of a larger order with them, and got some shirts, polo shirts, and sweatshirts too. I've supported them for many years, and even added one of the magnetic copper therapy bracelets to this order. I don't put much faith in the health benefits of them, but I think it looks better and lasts longer than the leather bracelets they sell instead :D

Well, all I can say is that the original MT.O hats are of top quality. I still have my green and black hat. They take a beating and keep on ticking. Here is a recent photo I posted wearing my green one the other day. It does need cleaning...but I kinda like the grunge look of it. My black one is still new and possibly slated for my tool collection come to think of it.

I'm without a job at the moment because I handed in my resignation myself, and like I said, I've got my eye on something else and let's say I've got a good chance of getting that new job.
And we've had a couple of financial setbacks this past year, and things haven't been easy to say the least. But we've always had enough to eat and drink, so I guess all the rest are just first world problems, compared to other people's problems.
Once again, thank you for your generous offer but I can not accept it, if you decide to go for a refund, use the money to get something you like (and seeing people posting pics from a new toy here always puts a smile on my face ;)).

Turns out the fan restoration thing(started as a hobby last year) and lamp restoration side-business is taking off slowly, but surely. Just took in two fan repairs and two lamp repairs last week alone, with more supposedly on the way. :woohoo:

But the guys working there seem great, and the rest will come in time I guess.

I made this "purchase" at a time in my life when I had to choose whether I was going to have food or heating on any given day. Money was exceedingly tight, to the extent of putting my own well being at risk, and yet I still found a way to offer my support. That loyalty has not been reciprocated.
I know and understand hardship. I still have tight months. I am/was however always up front with those I was indebted to, and kept them informed of what I would be able to do to honour that debt, and when. I do not feel we received the same courtesy here.
Several times we were led to believe this was all going ahead as planned. Had I/we been approached in the way that I treat those I owe something to, no doubt my current feelings would be different, but MTO has received its last financial support from me, no matter what begging or guilt tripping may occur.
My online time is now mostly spent at a different forum. This place was my online "home" for many years, and I made several good friends here, and I do not wish any harm upon the forum, nor have any ill will to any member here, but I am reminded of the old adage...
"If you lend £20 to someone, and never hear from them again, it was probably money well spent"

Things in my personal life have taken a serious nosedive in recent years, and to be honest, this is one of many things that slipped away from me.
I have refunded money to anyone/everyone that has requested it, and I am working on rectifying things, but the damage is absolutely done, and I have far too much respect for our members to deny, allay or try to downplay any of it, or shift the blame. I have failed many of you, and for that, I am extremely apologetic. The buck stopped with me, and I blew it.
But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel- after almost five years of struggling, I am starting to get a handle on things again, and everything will start improving as I get more and more things checked off the list. It takes time, and I understand that many of you will feel like you have put in enough time- and I understand and respect that completely.
If anyone has any questions, comments or just wants to tell me off, my PM's and email are always open. And, yes, I do read them all.

How many times have you (quite rightly) preached that the character of someone is shown, not when everything is going well, but how they respond when things go wrong? It's a very long time overdue, but thank you for that.
First step to fixing a problem is always acknowledging it.
I do (still) wish you all the very best in restoring your equilibrium, and getting a handle back on things. I don't just mean here. I am pleased to hear you are gaining some traction and momentum in that direction. Strength isn't about being invincible, but having the determination and persistence to continue despite not being invincible, and even irreparably broken in some way or other, as we both are. I sincerely hope you find that strength, make good the repairs, wherever the cracks may lay, and walk on with your head held high, and the start of a new wide grin forming.

It's been a long, hard road, and, if I'm honest, I am much better at offering help than asking for it.
In the past 5 years I have gotten divorced, injured, lost my job and have been fighting bankruptcy and the loss of my house, and worked over 80 hours a week at multiple minimum wage jobs to try and slow my descent- I never made enough to pay all of my bills, just enough to be able to juggle some here and there. The heavy work schedule made it all too easy to hide from the forum and it's problems.
Regarding the hats- I have lost the money. I didn't embezzle it, but I might as well have, as the company that I sent it to appears to have been having problems of their own and folded, with no refunds for me. I have been working to try and raise money on my own to replace everyone's orders, but I'm not a fan of the whole "poor me" smurf, and I kept getting deeper. Again, the heavy work schedule made it easy to make excuses.
I will absolutely replace the hats, and make it worth the wait for everyone. MTO members may be upset, and there's nothing I can do about it since they are absolutely right to be. I just want everyone to know that while various balls have been dropped, I am making progress on picking them back up again. I'm not back where I want to be, but I am in a good spot to make more progress, and not in a bad place if I stay here for a while.
But, MTO is a happy place, and not a place for me to vent, whine and complain about my smurfty circumstances. I am clawing my way back, slowly but surely. I'll get there- forward motion is always good, no matter how small.

So, I'm writing off my "investment" in a scheme to have a bit of fun. My down payment was "venture capital". This time, something ventured turned out to be something lost. The milk got spilled, the water is under the bridge, the bull is out of the pasture, and somebody please close that barn door.

We all participated in the plan, you were just the person who volunteered (Thanks!) to do the hard work and bring it all together. The way I see it, the hat maker cheated US, not YOU.
