Title: Axem 4.0
Post by: Antti Lammi on November 21, 2018, 09:56:11 PM
Okay i start this review by quick review on tool, i tested this evening flatheads, hex bit driver and rope cutter.

Well first tested flat heads and i was bit disappointed on those, 2 smaller flathead heads are bit too dulls those need bit file to sharpen heads, heads didnt go deep enough to able screw with them. No big problem but needs to be done before adding to it survival or emergency pack

Hex bit driver slot is excellent idea but execution isnt so good, hex bits wobble inside maybe bit too much i affraid if using too much force it gonna slip and make hex bit slot unusable, and another point of using o rings to tighten hex bit better on slot is bit akward to put it in place and take of without breaking it without external tools like tweezer. If  make slot bit more tighter to hex driver it would just be superb.

Then last useage for this evening was rope cutter and gotta say i thinked first it would be really sharp but i was wrong  again it cutted rope but needed to use force and move around the rope to cut it. Maybe bit file to make new chamfer to it, it needs bit larger and gentle sloping  to make cutting edge more efficient (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181121/85cd01f0b4836862b0641afee9cbdb30.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181121/bb49b5276cafc5e4c0e9f4aea460d9c4.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181121/5df7a8add20d4341921a2d8fd89e527d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181121/1248e2f9d0c67f8d0dca59b7c33e0783.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181121/328ea2db503d0b7f00ef1597332abc76.jpg)

Tried to use those larger O-rings to hold hex bit on place but just putting that O-ring on place is akward and time consuming, when removing hex bit O-rings are in way and need to stumble with it to just get it out.  When wearing gloves that just sucks.

Tested bit more in this morning at work. Axe blade works good and i really mean it, its enough sharp to carve wood and it works excellent scraper and good axe replace.
Used also wrenches and those works great.

Saw is good, it does job when needed.

Made little handle at work for my Axem 4.0
It holds my Axem so it act as saw, axe and scraper. Made also place for spear tip.
Gonna try more use of this survival tool when i get home so i xan see how it works on outside.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/7d325378e200525d549f2bd54412cf79.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/ad0e66e6cc4be7289de8a05068631ffd.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/874b83e02f48ca9c4761bf9e32e2bd9c.jpg)

Okey tested bit more axe today, i planned testing spear tip today but gotta admit need bit more better woods cause all good wood grow or are frozen so badly that i cant make good spear, gotta try tomorrow again when i go to visit my own forest where i can take down trees i want.

Then perfomance of axe was really good and it cutted throught wood easily.  During test i noticed that spear tip wasnt so good place at end of handle when chopping wood. But when using only spear with that handle it was good to use and tomorrow i know bit better how good that spear tip is.

Made litte improvement on handle and carved slot for spear tip so its in handle but doesnt be on way when using axe(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/471235262eeebedca4e78733c131e178.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/f1c5a91fcd6147e6831a9a08540d6529.jpg)

First version there was movement but after i drilled hole in handle and putted hex bit in first hole and second hole for paracord i was able to tighten tool so good that there is minimal movement(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181122/37550047c90b4fbd214a0996e5fbbc33.jpg)

As promised i made spear tip test today, well  gotta say spear tip is sharp enough to make destruction where it hits.
Making spear wasnt easy task cause wood are bit frozen so it makes sawing bit more challenging  than usual.
Chopped wood first with Axem then sawed other head flat where tip goes.
When it wad ready first i  tried saw hole for tip but i gave up and used axem blade to split it up enough for spear tip. Then i used paracord from my axe handle to tighten spear tip in place.
After it was tight enough made knot and started testing.

First i used my spear to hit few woods and it sticked to wood ( Whole spear not tip) played with it sometime before my spear splintered to pieces. Gotta say spear tip is good to have. It works also as knife if no other knife is available.
