I just got one of these in.
The set comes in a very nice paper sleeve.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3595small_zps3dc6c588.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3595small_zps3dc6c588.jpg.html)
For those that find this info interesting.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3596small_zps96a10f56.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3596small_zps96a10f56.jpg.html)
On the backside of the paper sleeve...some instructions on how to display the set.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3597small_zpsee800c95.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3597small_zpsee800c95.jpg.html)
One the paper sleeve is removed, one encounters a very nice wooden display box with some laser etchings.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3598small_zps8921f30b.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3598small_zps8921f30b.jpg.html)
The wooden box features two metal clasps.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3599small_zpsd23b3dc7.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3599small_zpsd23b3dc7.jpg.html)
This is what you will see once you manage to open the wooden display box.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3600small_zps2ef8d65f.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3600small_zps2ef8d65f.jpg.html)
Move aside the black felt, and you are now fact to face with 6 beautiful Wenger knives surrounding a numbered plaque.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3602small_zps04cc03e1.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3602small_zps04cc03e1.jpg.html)
Remove the wooden knife tray, and you encounter more literature. I did not open the sealed booklet.

So there you have it. I am now an owner of this limited edition of only 2013 worldwide. I have read somewhere that there are only 150 something for the US or North America...I can't remember which. Either way, I got this set because it may well be the last such set from Wenger, as Victorinox is getting ready to axe the Wenger name. Sorry Tosh.
-
Beautiful Chako!! Congratulations! :tu:
-
So sad that Wenger is going. :( As others have mentioned I'm wondering why there is no wood for South America. Anyways, beautiful set!
-
That is absolutely stunning. Great photos Chako, thanks for posting them!
-

I think Victorinox is waiting for the sales to die down due to collectors' paranoia. Only THEN will the axe fall. ::)
-
-
So they started shipping them out.
I know a couple of the guys here preordered them so looking forward to hearing the thoughts on them and seeing lots of pics soon. :2tu:
-
Yeah, poor Tosh. I didn't even know of this set's existence until during a PM, Tosh told me he was having a very hard time in acquiring this set in the UK. I did a little ebay search and found myself a set mid last month for sale from the US. Then I searched these forums and found a few references of this set in some of the threads. I guess I should make it a point to read everything in the future.
As for the set, well what can I say. The wooden display box and interior tray are well built as is the knives found therein. I haven't opened them up for photography yet. Not sure if I will have enough time this weekend as I am in a marking crunch with 2 stacks of exams, and 3 stacks of final exam projects to weight through. My marks have to be in by 3:35 on Monday, along with report card comments, etc. :D
-
As far as I know Tosh ordered his from Germany in the end.
-
That is good to hear. I was feeling a little bad about his predicament.
-
Wow, simply beautiful!
-
Thanks for the pictures!
Finally some real ones, beside those on the Wenger website.
Is it me, or the wood scale on african model is a little bit different from the stock picture we saw previously?
Congratulations, nice set!
-
Do you know what's in the sealed booklet? :pok:
-
That is a beautiful set Chako!
-
Congratulations on this fantastic set!

Don't fret Dan :ahhh
I got an email last night from "Peggy" (??) confirming that my order should be with me by the end of next week :drink:

Sweet! They look great and so do your photos! :tu: :tu: I love the look of wooden scales and some of the Wenger's I have seen and handled are much better than the Victorinox ones I have handled(IMHO).

Impressive wood collection there!
-
Can you try them out and see which is best for throwing?
-
Im not a collector but i would definetely like to have that and grace on it every day, amazing buy :tu:

Nice! Congratulations Victor!
Are these beauties only available in this set or are they individually available?
I love them all but I'm looking for a nice wood-handled Wenger for everyday use, and both those little evolutions are stunners...
-
As far as I know, they are only available in the set. If I had to decide between the two 85mm I would probably take the Thuja... or ... perhaps the Olive :D

I have six for sale: http://www.edcsource.com/auction_details.php?auction_id=116778

Hi Thunderpants,
I guess you know about the regular Wenger Evowood range?
I bought an Evowood 14 recently - It's really, really nice - Swiss Walnut - I understand.
Dont have my camera just now - But here's an Amazon link...
http://www.amazon.com/Wenger-16387-Swiss-EvoWood-Pocket/dp/B0042RA91M
Link just for the piccie - I did not research price etc.

Wow, great price on them too. :tu:

Hello everybody,
How are you ? I apologize, sometimes I read the forum but I participate really rarely because I'm generally very busy.
I don't know if people well understand this United Woods set. I read somewhere people comparing it to the Heritage, but this is not a Heritage 2.0. In french, we say this is a chant du cygne. It means it's the grand final, because 2013 is the 120th Wenger anniversary but also the very last Wenger's year. So, my personal thought is : this is a must-have for SAK lovers.
I don't own it yet, I should hurry, but I'll get it in few days, I read the official presentation document and I saw it in real in a knife shop. In my opinion, it looks awesome, especially the American one, in maple.
I don't know how you can offer it for less than $525. This is a gift, because here in Switzerland, this set is offered for 590CHF. So, I'll have to break my piggybank, but I think I won't regret. Really pricey, but really nicey. If you can get it for $525, don't hesitate. I don't know this seller so I've no interest to say that, but the price is much better than official swiss price.
I would like to help SAK amatoirs to get this set and the Vic Elsener's tribute Damascus Explorer 2013. So, if you want my help, please tell me in which forum part I should write a topic. Thank you.
See you

Hi Huntsman,
Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I have indeed been toying with the idea of one of those Evowoods. Slightly annoying to find the ones with a Phillips instead of a corkscrew are sold only in the USA as far as I can tell (I am in Euroland.)
Having said that the big and chunky 557 Evowood (with pliars etc.) looks like fun... at the moment my only non alox knife is a red Spartan so that slab of Swiss timber should make a nice contrast.
Truth is, all of these wooden Wengers look absolutely fantastic and it would be a shame not to get one (or five...) before the Wenger brand is gone forever.
-
Request to the lucky owners of this set.
Should you have an EvoWood S557 (or just any EvoWood model), could you take a picture of the set (inside the wooden box) with the EvoWood instead of the red cellidor S557?
I would like to see how it could had been using only wooden models.
-
I was thinking about the same thing, why not use EvoWood scales for the Jura SAK? Since those are made from Swiss grown walnut. I think that Wenger chose the red scales as the most representative for most of the SAKs they made.
Basilio, I don't have mine yet and I cannot post a photo myself, I hope somebody else could. But I'm sure it would look nice with a EvoWood S557 in there.
-
Thanks Marius.
Eventually remember to post a picture with the EvoWood when you will be getting your set.
I think we had a discussion in the Wenger topic about the use of a single cellidor knife for a "Wood" collection.
It is here

Hey Thunderpants - Nice review of the Evowood S557 here:

Great idea Basilio. I would (wood !?!) like to see that too.
I remember reading our thread discussing whether Wenger should have used an Evowood S557 rather than the Cellidor model. I think that kinda makes sense and would have looked good.
.... However ..... The red penknife is such and iconic image for the SAK. I know there are many alox and other handle enthisiasts here on the forum - But if you asked any member of the public to descrbe a Swiss Army Knife - I bet 99.9% would say it has red handles.
That is why they went for the Cellidor !!
-
Well I don't have a wood Wenger knife that would fit sizewise...so I can't help you there.
Personally, I wouldn't touch the kit as it is rather classy with that traditional red Wenger knife.
EDIT: Just after typing the above, I had to look. Problem is sometimes, I forget what I have and had a nagging idea that I might just have such a knife in my collection...so here is the photo.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo001/IMG_3616small_zpscee78f09.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo001/IMG_3616small_zpscee78f09.jpg.html)
I still like the traditional red though...but at least you guys now have the photo.
-
Oh finally, thank you very much!!!!
Opinions differ, of course, but....
... Wenger did it wrong here!
Love the "United Woods" idea, instead of "United Wood + cellidor".
-
I've been avoiding this thread in fear of my wallet's safety. The Wenger United Woods collection looks very  worthy.
I don't mind the traditional red one that they included, but I have to agree that the wood one in it's place makes the set look very nice and more complete.
Victorinox/Wenger really needs to hire one of us to help them with their marketing/design department.
-
Really hoping that Tim sells out before I cave in.
I don't need a collection. I don't need a box of SAKs that I can't use. It will only need dusting. No one will understand why I've spent to much money on some SAKs, can't you get them from Lidl for £3? But I want the set!

Just one left now.... :pok:

Yep that box looks even better with the Evowood whatever-it-is in place of the red plastic SAK.
I don't need a box of SAKs that I can't use.
Who says you can't use them? I think they'd be perfect for garden work, camping, renovating etc. Dry cement washes off these things real good... :D

And don't forget, that if you loose one in the forest those brown wooden scale will help them to stand out, so you easily find them again.

I have to agree that the "All Wood" look does actually look better. I haven't got a wood s557.
But, by replacing the celidor 557 with wood 557, I'm guessing its no longer then original. But it just looks soooo much better with All Wood
What a dilemma, if I haven't got enough problems :ahhh
-
Well from a collectors standpoint, original is always best. If you are just buying this for a display...then it really doesn't matter...just don't lose that other knife if you plan on reselling it to a collector some day, they will want it all original.
Probably why I am was never thrilled about most MT/SAK mods.
-

Well, it won't be me that sells it, maybe my young son will offload it for cash when I'm gone :ahhh who knows??
But, I do wonder if the cellidor version would possibly fit underneath the flock liner? Otherwise, the only problem with swapping is the very real likelihood it gets misplaced.
I quite fancy the idea of building similar cases for other mt's & sak's. That case really does set them off
-
The red cellidor 557 that came with the set has a special etching on the blade and this can not be replicated on any EvoWood 557.
You would have to replace the cellidor scales with a wood one.
But even then, I would be left with no matching papers and documents of the set.
I was asking for the picture that Chako kindly posted only to see a "what if".
-
(http://forum.multitool.org/swiss-forum/any-love-for-wenger/?action=dlattach;attach=88730;image)
-
This is real, the full wood set is better than original. I don't know how they missed it.
-
Got mine as well a while ago 8)
-
Hehe, everybody is showing the S557 with wood scales...
-
And here I thought that maybe Wenger acted quickly after the online backslah and changed the S557s in the set. Since mine came like that and I had to call them to send me a red one extra :D
Jk aside:
Red plastic or even no S557 at all the set is a beauty. I like it a lot.
-
The smaller ones are excellent.
-
And the Rangers are simply
-
Very nice pictures Marius!
What about the "problem" you were describing here with the 85mm models?
http://forum.multitool.org/swiss-forum/what's-your-latest-sak/msg788402/?topicseen#msg788402
It seems to be still there from your latest pictures
-
As long as there are no large gaps there I am fine with that small detail. Looks that there is a design change, maybe -to venture a guess- because of some incidents with that little wooden lip getting broken when the corkscrew is slapped closed...
