Just wanted to post a few photos of my latest find. I'll try to get some comments up later this week and am working on a review for the main site since there isn't one yet. :)

Nice find Spoonrobot. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. Those Al Mar tools sure look nice.

Nice find mate :)
I can never decide if I actually like them or not

Not my cup of tea, but I would really still want one!! Look it has a real blade!

The tool is used so I can't really comment too much on the fit and finish but from what I can see the tool is very well constructed. Everything lines up very nicely and the handle scales are thick and beefy, all the springs have a good snap and opening of the implements is smooth. The grinds on the blades and file are very good, very even along the length and well finished at the edge.
Overall the tool is an interesting piece. It's form factor and tool loadout are more in tune with tools from the turn of the century (the 19th century) that most current production pieces. It doesn't really do much but it is classically simple and functional in it's short list of abilites.
I've seen that the main blade is 440C steel, anyone know for sure? If it is that would be one of the earlier attempts to include a more premium steel in multi-tool blades.

Congrats on an outstanding score Spoon! That 4x4 is a real hard-to-find piece of work. Yes the design is dated by todays standards, but I love the rugged simplicity.
It puts me in mind of the SOG ToolClip, another fixed plier multi that came out of Seki at about the same time. I look at the two together and think surely there must be some relation between the designers or makers. Maybe the same firm produced both?

So will you be going after an Al Mar QuickClip next Spoon? ;) :D

It was a historical remake of the old OSS/SOE escape and evasion knife , with a few twists. The original was British made and sterile , and had a saw rather than serated blade. The pliers were a bit more wire cutting oriented. There was also a version that was minus the pliers and had a saw blade. That version also came in an engraved version.
Al Mar was a mber of the US Special Operations community , and made his own interpretation of some classic Military knives. He was a prolific designer , and designed a lot ofthe classic Gerbers.
