So, I simply wonder what one piece tools you guys carry long term. We all admire the new toy... tools, but which ones has passed the test of (some) time?
-
Used to carry a Gerber Artifact but never actually needed it so I just gave it up. It sits at home now, with awl the other stuff I got and don't really need.

perhaps the one I've grown to love the most these last years is this one
to the point that it has earned a permanent spot in my keychain

I'll snap a picture later but on my vehicle key chain I carry Leather #5. Its been a nice little OPT. I also carry a Pocket Wrench 2 in my Charge TTi sheath with I use for work as well as one on my off day. This tool is so versatile that I consider it a MT.

For at least 6 years I carried either a knockoff widgy bar and later a real gerber shard. Generally all I use them for is breaking tape seals so I'm not using my knife blade. A few months ago I switched out to the sog macv more cuz it looks good than needing the extra tools that has.

Thanks, guys!

Forgot to post a picture. I carry the PW2 in the sheath with my Charge TTi for work. This tool has come in handy on so many occasions that its earned a permanent spot. I also carry one on my off days. I've tried to carry it on a keychain but its a bit bulky. One could carry it in a wallet  but being so slim and light theres lots of ways to carry one. I really see it as a MT.
I bought some LM by the number tools. I didn't carry any for a while then decided to try the #5. I liked the shape and thought it would make a good companion to my car keychain. I am a huge fan of having a pry tool with me. I don't use my knife for tasks that are best served with a tool like these. The #5 has been pretty good overall and has remained on my keychain now for a little while.
I carried the yellow paracord wrapped pry tool for a little while. I got a set of 2 for very cheap. They are good if all you want is a pry tool. I like my other options since they can do other things.

This little Punisher has been hanging-around for a couple-of-years. Usually sees a lot of beer-opening duty. :D

Really liked the modified brewzer but gifted it out.
For prying the modified doohickey was excellent, also gifted out.
The utili-key disappears into the keys until needed and the 9-4160 is old school cool.

I've tried a few over the years, including the Artifact, Shard, Fixr, and others. None of them proved to be of any benefit to me, and most proved problematic to carry.
The nearest thing to "one piece" that proved to be worth carrying was the Utilikey.

This is my edc:

Still with my LM #5 and PW2.
-
Been carrying a Gerber Shard on my work keys for 2+ years I think.
-
Had this on my key for a couple years now, opened countless bottles (for others) and pryed many paint cans.
Best of SOG.

A Leatherman #5 for about a year now, it's the only tool I've been able to take regularly through Belfast and Bristol airport security without any problems... I gotta have something :ahhh

Some nice OPTs, y'all. Looks like openers and pry tools are the most popular. :like:
When ya need an extra flat driver, these things are cool. Though, admittedly, I haven't used mine yet.
-
On the one i carry in my wallet, I sharpened the side of the large driver with a for, then stone. Is s good back up and will open envelopes, cut paracord, and... fingers

The Gerber Shard stays on my keychain and is TSA Complaint so far. That’s the only reason why I carry it.
I have a Pocket Wrench in a cheap plastic sheath. Use it primarily for scraping, prying and measuring.

Good idea, except for the finger thing! Thanks.

Here's a sot of my rather basic sharpening job. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181026/11bc70a269f685f1329272fda0dfa47c.jpg)

PW2. I've carried one for years. Only used occasionally, but I've used the wrench and ruler, as well as using it for prying jobs that seemed a bit heavy for the 91mm SAK bottle opener. It rides unobtrusively in my wallet until needed, and hasn't been a problem with airport security.
-
Still rocking my PW2. I've switched to a LM#4 from the #5. I like it with the added bit.

Funny, I've got my #4 on me today as well. Maybe the second time I've carried it since I got it.
My Doohickey lives on my keys, so that may be the only long term one I've used. Mostly to open bottles, but has scraped a good bit as well.
-
Good to see you around buddy :tu:. Yeah I switched to see how I liked it. So far its done all I need which is scrape and light pry work. I haven't used the bit but its not bothersome so the #4 will remain for now.

Thanks!
I went out of my way to find reasons to use the bit, works well enough on basic stuff. But really only seems like it would help with surface screws.

I often (but not always) have a modified Gerber Shard on my keys. The phillips driver I found largely useless apart from getting caught in whatever keyring it was attached to, so I ground it off to create a rounded loop. The bottle opener and gets used occasionally, as does the edge of the prybar for opening boxes.

Just got this very cheap knock-off on AliExpress. Feels quite sturdy, gonna see how it performs.
I also bought a Gerber Zip Bladr replica. The blade was dull, so had to sharpen it up. Also, the lock failed sometimes, I had to file off the base of the blade a bit. During the process I noticed how a hard type of steel it was, I expeced something of much worse quality.
For now I'm happy with both. And a Piranha knock-off is on the way. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190321/77e48bea0a5d914240680435a030420a.jpg)

I actually used to have one of those in my keys back when I was in college
I don’t think I ever used it for anything other than opening beer, maybe once to pry a open a can of paint after my retarded roommate knocked over his bong and made a big burn mark on the wall in the dorm-room, so we had to repaint the whole room.
Yep those were the days!
I don’t know what happened to that punisher key ring, because I still have the key ring that it was in...hmm
