A Surge , based on the “T” shank Jig saw blade adapter , would mean I no longer need to carry a folding Drywall/ Jabsaw whilst working . It might just be one of the better urban survival tools . Guess thet makes two justifications .
I only wish it had an S30V, or 154CM master blade option , which is in turn a justification for contimuing to carry a high end folder !
Best Regards ,
Chris

Ah the old justification route.... :D
Whatever gets a Surge in your possetion. It’s a amazing tool and after years and years of trying basically all the tools from all the manufacturers it’s the one that I now carry each and every day. :tu:
-
That sounds like a excellent
excuse OmC to get a LM Surge :tu:
Now I need to think of a excuse I can
give the missus for why I need a LM Surge

That is the idea but she won’t go with that excuse :(
Maybe if I use the excuse of
if I had a Surge I could fix that for you

The Surge is a great tool. I believe in mine so much so that it lives in my emergency evacuation bag. With year round fire season here in California I dont want to fuss with a tool I'm not confident in. :salute:
-
I thought of another one , it’s such a good fist load , I won’t have to carry brass knuckles , or a sap anymore , just kidding , haven’t carried either for over thirty years !

I think in that situation , I would probably go with a Swisstool , but a Surge would certainly do the trick !

"Antti's wife even buys tools FOR him! :twak:"

Where can I get a missus like that

well you could argue with your wife or significant other, that getting a Surge and always carrying it on you might make you become a Surge-on

Ask for permission!?!?.
Best excuse; "It was an impulse buy, a weak moment, to good of a deal to pass up", take your pick, then complete your sentence, "please forgive me!"

Actually , as a Widower , I don’t have to justify anything . Even when I was married , or otherwise hooked up , I could always slide stuff in , under the “tool” rubric .

Chris,
The Surge is a top-class capable MT. There are several good reasons to have one, and the blade exchanger is one of them.
My most used MT in work-EDC is a Surge with 21pc bit set (gives you 42 drivers), fine wood blade, LM wood blade, bi-metal blade, and LM file.
The pliers(also in ST300 and MUT) are the strongest pliers of any MT. Replaceable cutters are excellent.
My main criticism is that it has two blades, neither of which are premium steel. I'd like to see it revamped with a 154CM/S30V PE blade and a prybar-type tool(like the one on Gerber Freehand).
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
-
I dont really like build in pry tool unless steel is so solid you could actually use it withput damaging the tool itself. Thats why i carry seperate miniprypar with me all the time.

I passed on one yesterday , played with it for a while , was very tempted , but found the weight penalty to be excessive .
For now , if I need a H/D multitool , I always have my full sized Swisstool in my bag .
The example I handled , had a revamped saw/ file adaptor , and blade fit is better with SDS/ T shanked saw blades , than I previously remember .
I also played with a Rebar felt tinny compared to my Charge +TTI , not a fair comparison , but the impression is enduring .
Best Regards ,
Chris

Surge is the best MT model from Leatherman, I feel.
I bought two.
Having two is great, because there are times when you use saw and file together. For example, one is loaded with saw, the other with file. In other times, one with plier, and one with knife or scissors .... etc etc.
Very quick operation time.

-
Thing is, I have 1 LM, a SAK, and a few
Benchmades
I have developed the MTO hunger :D
:like: I refer to it as a disorder :gimme:
Before finding this forum I had 1 LM WAVE, never carried, as it was a gift from my son and I opted to save it for later. Then found SAK Alox, a small bite, but luv'd the Orange alox, and needed a Pioneer, then a Farmer, then saw a Blue Farmer, :gimme: This was the start, all thanks to following SAK Guy here from a gun forum.
Then... found a ST300 marked down, less than 1/2 price, knew not to leave it behind. Then a 30 day ST300 challenge, then learned about the Rebar, (a smaller ST300), then another challenge, then a marked down WAVE, a couple more Rebars.
Then a Surge 30 day challenge, I maintained restraint, I read the postings, followed from beginning to end, and it broke me down, I ordered a Surge, had to have one.
It is seldom used, but a very trusted tool, as I have it selected in a BUGOUT Bag. Primary reason over my other MTs is the AWL and larger scissors. Also, larger blades. It does go on trips to the wild and other adventures than can go bad as result of a accident or such.
And in all my time on this earth, I have learned, once you obtained want you want and need, you then continue searching for the next best prefect tool. It does not end... :multi:
Forgiveness, over permission.
-
The Surge for me is a very good tool due to the bit driver and blade exchanger. Yes weight wise its a beast as compared to other MTs. As part of a kit :tu:. Around the home :tu:. I don't carry one for work as much anymore however its not neglected. I've got 3 in total. My older version one is my home tool. A small selection of blades and not much running back and forth to my garage. Tackles most jobs straight forward. My new version BO is in my evacuation bag. My SS new version was a gift so its gets special treatment.
-
I only want one :ahhh :ahhh
-
I only want one :ahhh :ahhh
Me too . I debated between the Surge and Wave. The new Surge with replaceable cutters was in the works so I went Wave. A short while after getting the Wave I found a nice used old Surge. I ended up taking it apart to steal the blade exchanger and awl to put into my modded Wave. That Surge sat in pieces. I got the BO one because I missed my Surge. All was good again. Then my friend went to the Leatherman Store and bought me the SS one. She had no idea I had just got the BO one. She knew I had taken apart my older one.
I was able to source a damaged old Surge. I removed the BE and awl from it and put them into my original Surge. Thats how I ended up with 3 :D

I haven't carried two Surges yet, but having an extra MT is great. I usually have the OG Mr. Pinchy and SAK Explorer in my back pocket to compliment the Surge. I know there is a lot of redundancy there, but with my job, they will certainly be used. :)
Right now I am only carrying the Wave for the challenge. I miss having tons of capability on my waist. :ahhh

:ahhh I want one now :ahhh
-
Yes, W. You need a Surge. :assimilate:
-
I know I know :poh:

It’s next in line , funds permitting ! Mainly due my Swisstool being self concious about being my only heavyweight Multi . It will hopefully help me reduce the tool count in my toolbags , and holsters .

Chris

That’s the only thing standing in my way funds ???

To help, were you aware that the pocket clip that we use on the WAVE also fits the Surge  Just in case you would want to pocket carry.
And, there is a retractable lanyard loop inbuilt on the opposite handle end.
-
Thanks LC
I just need to save a bit more money :poh:
-
Thanks for pointing that out, LoopCutter!
The Surge is surprisingly o.k. in the pocket. Well, it would be fine in work wear or blue jeans's pockets. Doesn't work well with soft pants materials. :)

You'll probably love it, if big and heavy-duty is what you're looking for. Oh, and of course, resistant to the Surge is futile! :assimilate:

When not doing a challenge, the Surge gets more EDC than any other MT I have. I'm always amazed that the Surge is less expensive than the Charge and the same price as a Wave+. Definite bang-for-the-buck.
-
If the quality is as good as the Wave+
I will be very happy with the Surge :D
The only problem for me is the blades
Especially for EDC
So will have to be careful where
I carry the Surge and the Wave+ ???
I might look at making the Surge blade less

I checked out a recent production Surge , the build quality was good , similar to the Wave+ , The T Shank/SDS Jigsaw blade adaptor was self compensating for the thickness of the blade tang . I would be totally chuffed , if it had a 154CM blade .

I am not familiar with the stipulations and laws where you're at, so sorry if that is a dumb idea.

:iagree:
Both of my Surges are good quality. My only complaint is the pivot bolt turns a little sometimes making the blade ever-so-slightly harder to open one-handed. That is a small thing and not a deal breaker for me personally. Surge is made for heavy-duty work, and not over-thinking. :multi:

Just be careful, because most Surges are stiff as smurf and need a lot of break in time. :)

Thanks GLBM
Yes it is a bit stiff at the moment
I have just given it a wipe over with a
cloth to get all the grease and the BO residue :tu:
Checked all the tools and that they lock properly
And so far everything works as it should love the quality :dd:

As a scissor appreciator you have to try them scissors :pok: ...I do like them a lot :salute:

Agreed. The Surge scissors are arguably the best LM have to offer at the moment. There are mods around that have a shortened version of these in a Wave or Charge, IIRC.

Just want to add that for the Wave it would be easier to install a pair of Wingman scissors or Vic SAK scissors. The Surge ones need much more modding to make them fit, I think. I couldn't find the thread I was looking for with Surge scissors mods for the Wave - but shortening the blades by quite a bit and adapting the liner lock surface would be necessary.
