I'm sure others have asked......but this just came to me....
I know it has unlimited potential to open bottle of wine, BUT......who's toting wine with them as often
as their knife? If bourbon came with a cork.....then I'd understand.... :cheers:

Corkscrews are good for undoing knots in boot laces, especially if they're muddy or otherwise gunked up.

I don't often have need for it, but those times we've been stuck without a corkscrew, it's made me the hero. It's also the only back tool that functions better as a mid- handle tool than it would on the end,

Then, I opened both blades :facepalm: (cork screw and screwdriver) and though who was the
genious who thought of that?

I hate the corkscrew, mostly because it's always on a knife I want but would rather have the phillips driver and they either don't make it with the phillips or it's discontinued.

Quick derail: just to tie into the other thread, swapping a Phillips in for a cork screw is a great first mod :) Please continue on...

Hmm... true true good point my friend.

I use the corkscrew for untying knots and things like that. I like it because it carries the small screwdriver as well.

The CS is there to make the SAK uncomfortable to hold and so that it wobbles when you sit it on a table. :pok:

Enough wine around here to easily justify the corkscrew.
I even carry a True Utility Twistik on my other keys in case my SAK is a handicapped one.
Drink more wine, live life.

LOL. I know. I almost didn't even want to use the image because of that. Mods can remove it if they want.

I get the argument, but the cellidors just don´t look right without the corkscrew.
The mini screwdriver in the corkscrew is also handy not only for small straight screws but also for really small philips of the type that is on battery cases and other electronics.
Otherwise you lack capabilty of small screws that are so common if you happen to go without a rambler/manager/minichamp. That scenario is probably not likely with the forumites here but anyway....

I've actually used the corkscrew to remove door handles at work. The tip gets to the retainer quite nicely....when someone else is using my small screwdriver.

My OHT has the screw driver and I would prefer the corkscrew.
I bought it for camp and totally missed the fact that it was lacking the cork screw.
I will gladly drink the wine you don't want ;)

Whippy tested the back philips a few years ago, by the way, and it had a very weak pin section.

It's the sort of tool you think "oh, why would I need this?" until something happens... like you are terribly drunk with friends and you need to open that bottle...

Correct: The corkscrew is definitely the tool with the highest potential to convert the owner a true hero.

this is a worry :-\ would a ss rod be better :think: ,was hoping to do this mod today but after 2 hours of cleaning mine and the kids bikes they want to take them down the park :-\

Of course, it's a design feature! Explains why they built the wobble into the Spirit...

In my world, the corkscrew takes up valuable space that could be utilized for other tools, it makes the MT wider in the pocket, and it serves no useful purpose except to irritate me. I have never used the corkscrew on a SAK.

Actually, I love wine...
And Actually, when I once bought a bottle of cool wine... (lots of hte wine here's sold in other containers, not glass bottles)... it turned out the only available cork screw in the flat was that on the Swisschamp! :ahhh I was sooo grateful for it, loool. If it hadn't been for it, I'd have died staring at the bottle, lol.
So.. I've really needed a cork screw only once, but it was enough to earn my respect, lol.

I had that happen once, I used my corkscrewless super tinker to remove a large screw from the lock of the hotel room we were in then screwed it Into the cork. Then I took a little paracord and made a loop handle to pop it out :). See no need for a dedicated corkscrew lol.

Trust me my swisschamp is my favourite sak,but this is just a slimmed down version :D a champ on a diet :rofl:

No one has mentioned the recent discovery that if tourqued too hard. the backside phillips can snap off due to the thin shank/tang of the driver.

I "saved" a big catered University donor party at a museum once ...the caterer forgot a corkscrew and me, the always helpful "SAK guy", pulled out my Champion and handed it to the staff....30+ bottles of wine were opened that night. Lots of thank you's and a free bottle of Pinot Noir came later that evening! 8)

If a product standardized for umpteen million users should only contain the tools all of them want, a SAK would have exactly 0 (zero) tools.
In other news, some people drink wine from glass bottles sealed with real cork for long term storage, some people carry stacks of newspapers bundled together with sharp-edged straps and some people buy canned food with no opener tab.
