These are one of the things I was really looking forward to seeing at SHOT this year- Wenger's new functional jewelry collection called HypeX.
The first one is called the Pietra and features a diamond sharpener on one side and a firestarter on the other.

Next up is the Wyss, which features a fold out can opener (tucks under the red panel when not in use), pry bar/wire stripper combo, 10mm wrench and a bottle opener.

The Ridge has a number of different wrenches, one of which doubles as a bottle opener, and the pry bar end can also be used as a wire stripper.

There's another one called the Corkoran which is a corkscrew, but it was not ready for presentation at the show, and so we didn't see it. I have some stock images from Wenger that I can post later on.

last year I never got the new knives it came out from shot. I never saw them for sale anywhere I hope these are more commonly found

I think the Pietra would be cool as a keyfob, or maybe on a lanyard attached to an Alox SAK or a nice "gentleman's" knife.

I love the idea of this and would be perfect for me. I used to wear jewelry, but years back stopped wearing any jewelry. I have really been wanting a necklace, but do not want to wear gold or silver or anything flashy really. I also have been wanting a small pry bar to add to my EDC but if added to my keys they would be to bulky so that idea is out. Well these cover both those needs plus quite a bit more. :tu:
The Wyss is ideal and the Ridge is a close second.

The great thing about these is they are all priced well under $100. MSRP (and I'll have to confirm this shortly, Bob's still asleep!) is about $65 for most of them although a couple of them are a bit more. Figure on $50 (or less) as a street price.

I am not a jewelry wearing person. Got a wedding band and that is it. I remember back when I was a teen I wore some chains that turned green and a nugget ring. I stopped after high school since it was just not my style.
I like the functionality of these pieces and the designs too. :salute: Wenger always kicks it out there with the new and strange. :pok:

I really, really like the idea behind these. I will say it's not for me, as I don't wear jewellery, but that's a personal choice and I still think these are a great bit of design. :cheers:

I wonder if the Pietra has replaceable inserts, or if you'd have to send it off for replacement if you eventually wore one out. :think:

The Pietra is interesting. But not $60 or even $40 interesting. I think either Wenger missed something about their customer base or I did.

It's an interesting quandary. Take the Whug for example $60 isn't necessarily expensive for a novel piece of jewelry, but I'm more of a tool mindset - $60 for a wooden whistle and a pair of tweezers ... :o :twak:
... yet I'm still quite interested :think:
I think this is another one of those items that falls into "functional art" just like the items from another manufacturer whose work is often subject to discussions about value. To me Atwoods are overpriced (their value to ME is low) yet others will pay fortunes for them. I think this is a smart move by Wenger, and II hope it finds an appreciative audience

I have to agree. These are pieces of jewlery that happen to have some functional use as well as aesthetic. I don't think they are particularly aimed at the multitool carrying market. However the surfer, snowboarder, skateboarder. May find them appealing, and if you are looking for a particular style of chain and pendant. Why not get one with built in functionality.

I love the idea of the Pietra. Now if only I could replace that diamond sharpener with ceramic. That would make it ideal for touch-ups! It doesn't look TOO hard to do based on the pictures. I think it'd just be a matter of finding someone that sells the stuff. When I do though I wouldn't hesitate to buy 2 or 3 haha. Most of the other tools are things that I already EDC in the form of SAKs, Leathermans, etc
Oh, and the Ridge looks really classy to me for some reason. I might pick one of those up as is.

Ya have not seen any activity on this since March, even their facebook page is dead.
Hopefully they are just building inventory now and soon there will be a big splash. Hoefully we won't have to have Grant ask them at the next Shot-Show what happened.

Did any of these supposed new releases ever make it onto the market? It did cross my mind that the decision and announcement to market these was followed not long after by the announcement of bringing everything under Victorinox's direct management :whistle: Did Mr Elsener not like the direction they were going?

I don't think I've ever heard any more about them. As I said at the time I rather like them, not cheap I grant you, but still interesting. Al made the point, and I totally agree, that these should definitely be seen as jewellery first and tools second. Lots of people will spend lots more than $60 on a piece of jewellery, so the fact these have some additional 'features' should be seen as a bonus IMO.
You never know, we might just see these being sold at some point, just with a Victorinox shield on them. ;)

The first one sure looks interesting to me, and if they could stuff in a whistle....
Nonetheless, as Captain said, I too do hope Victorinox will pick it up where it's been left off.

They are interesting, i got some info before that they got retired or that the maker could not deliver on time.
Not sure now if they got produced in more numbers?
