I have a variety of MiniChamps in the collection, including 7 and 8 blade versions, alox, and Midnight MiniChamps.
However the Wenger Pocket ToolChest seems to fit my hand better and that's what sees occasional pocket time.

The Pocket ToolChest seems like a cool knife also, but I believe it has no Phillips screwdriver. Am I right? For me that makes a huge difference in any SAK, and I tend to avoid those models that don't include one.
That wenger knife is also a little bigger, isn't it? The Minichamp could be 1cm longer, in my opinion. That would make it easier to grasp and would allow for a slightly longer blade. I find that the main blade is barely usable to cut fruit, for instance. That one centimeter could make a difference...
Count me in!

Thanks. All my MiniChamps are standard Ibach production, factory mistakes included. There was no standard black alox MiniChamp run made yet as far as I know. All black alox ones seen here are customs. For cellidor black is no problem and in fact I do have at least one in black, painted over :)
The small Scenics (mainly Classics) were reportedly done for an annual trade show in Basel. Scaled down versions of the standard Swiss Scenics.
Marius,
Great looking set of alox MiniChamps! :tu:

Thanks, Karl
Nice Scenic ones do you have :tu:
Which reminds me that in fact the Cellidor painted ones that I shown here are not exactly as they came from factory, except the actual knives, the scales being from LE Classic series.
Who likes MiniChamps in plastic may want to consider dressing them up in fancy designer scales that often appear on Classics ::)

Think the green 7-blade in the first shot is factory; but the purple 8-blade is aftermarket (Central Valley IIRC)
Lovin' those green alox.
I have one but I do not use it anymore as it has several tools that I found unnecessary.
I like the manager more and carry it.
Don't you think the Minichamp is missing a can opener? Is there any way to open a can with a Minichamp without destroying our little fellow?
Cant wait for the Alox minichamps to hit the USA! Next month I believe. I need to start saving now. :ahhh
Do all Vic Minichamps have a pen?? Im assuming that the alox models do not
When I bought my Minichamp, I couldn't make my mind. I liked the rambler and the manager because they both offered the essential functionality I was looking for (blade, scissors, small Phillips, nail file) in a light, thin and small size. The Minichamp had a few extras that I was interested in trying out, but I was not sure if it was worth the extra thickness.:tu:
So, I got both - Minichamp and Rambler. But I had to decide between them, and it wasn't easy. I end up with the Minichamp. I am carrying it everyday in the small front pocket in my jeans. I have used all of its blades. Even the tiny ruler has proved usefull once in a while. The emergency blade is probably it's most used tool, together with the pen. I like a lot the smaller size of rambler and manager, but I really think that I now could not go back and replace my Minichamp by any of those :-) I would certainly miss all the missing tools.

After making a pocket hanger I carried my Juice Pro in my pocket (of tight denim) this morning. I felt that girls would be embarrassed looking at me, if you know what I mean. This same afternoon I carried my Mounteneer and it was the same but this time I would feel embarrassed too (too big for comfort, too small for bragging). Once more, I put them back in the drawer and put the Minichamp/Ladybug in my pocket. Hardly noticeable in the front, back or coin pocket and have tools for 99% of everyday tasks. That's cost effectiveness. 99% for a few euros, mms and grams and 1% for some hundreds of euros, double plus dimensions and times the weight.>:D :D
It's hot in here already.I see ... :D but for love is sometimes necessary also to endure heat  ;)

Better late than never, I guess.
I had one, didn't care for it. It was an old one, didn't have the orange peeler.
The extra tools didn't justify the extra thickness for me. I prefer the Rambler or Manager.
I can see why folks like them though.
I think they need to re-work it a little, to make it perfect:^ I think that's enough to make it one layer thinner, and thus, more popular.
- Remove the cuticle pusher
- Put the screwdriver tip back on the nail file, and mark the ruler on the reverse side of it
- Drop the wharncliffe blade
Either that, or put a mini awl and micro screwdriver in the place of those two implements, ala Wenger Pocket Toolchest.
Thoughts?
+1....Minichamps rock!!
They do rock indeed, not the least because they pack so many tools in such a small package that they are mostly underestimated; the Minichamp could very well be the MOST refined and complete and highly civilized urban tool.
That sure would make a terrific blade TJ....I don't see why it couldn't be done with all the Spyderco-style blades being used on Mini's. Ronald, that's a terrific Picture....love that keychain!!Thank you Barry!

Been going back and forth between getting alox mini champ or Pioneer X next....and leaning toward the Mini Champ. Is LCSAS the only red one currently available?
I like that stayglow one too! Might just go for non alox so I can swap scales and choose between T&T, pen and LED.
Cool little champs! With one of these on my keys I'm more likely to give my 2-layer 91s and 93s more pocket time.

I can understand why people wouldn't want to carry a SwissChamp, or a WorkChamp. Large, bulky, heavy etc.
But there's no such excuse for not carrrying a MiniChamp. In fact, I'm carrying two!
I carry the alox MC on my belt in a brown leather sheath (Victorinox article no. 4.0532). The red one is on my keychain. I used to carry a Classic in the sheath. However, the sheath was too large for a Classic, and not large enough to fit a regular MC.

...With the MiniChamp at hand, all I need is a little wood and I'll carve a few disposable toothpicks (or get some blackthorn needles). But try carving some tweezers (it ain't easy). :DWhen camping I carve a lot of disposable goods, but I never made toothpicks.I'll give that a go as soon as I'm back in the woods.

I almost regret liking the pen in my MiniChamp, if I didn't I'd swap them out for green ones too.
How do you remove the scales without damage? Do they snap back on without issues?

Those are really nice. Are those scales from a special series?
I keep mine on a keychain hook that's easy to remove. Due to the tools on it, it allows me greater flexibility with my larger SAK carries. I don't have to worry that I'll be without scissors or a nail file etc if I'm carrying a Spartan or Tinker, for instance. Great little knife!

I just added a quick attach accessory to my newly discovered MiniChamp II so that it can quickly be added to a keychain. Here it is pictured together with a Leatherman PS4 & an Executive that is waiting for rehab...

10-tool MiniChamp XL
8-tool Alox 2011 from SwissBianco

Maybe there is missing to get it completed a Minichamp with removable pen, as first versions of Minichamp II didn't have the retractable pen.

I am still missing Lite & XL versions.

What does the minichamp xl have over the regular? I see the two-pronged thing, but what is it? Also, it looks like a third blade? Or is that something else? The two other tools are the two-pronged divot tool and then that one that looks like a blade is another nail file, but the type with slanted grooves like in the bigger knives.
Charles.

WOW, yes I would be over there asking him at what price he would let it go. Some people have a price, some people don't and they rather keep it. You have to ask.
Is it in a box?

I've my lone Minichamp, but the variations fascinate me!Barry, from my understanding the cellidor scales only come in Ruby, Sapphire and Red from the factory for the MiniChamp.
MiniChamp update. The XL is the red one in the middle. The only one that isn't a MiniChamp is the top one with Dragonfly scales it's a Vagabond (lovingly referred to as Dragabond).

Got myself a MiniChamp alox because the regular one felt a bit thick in my 5th pocket.
Immediately reworked the cuticle pusher to a chisel like I did on my other MiniChamp.
Nice. I’ve been considering these scales. What did you use for attaching them?
Hammer...Cool. I have a couple other pairs of his scales which fit by pressing, but on the website these said glue or epoxy was needed. Glad to hear it wasn’t necessary.
Seriously, these fit snugly. Brandon says that you can use epoxy, for a more "permanent" application.

Couple years back, I pestered him so much for a tread pattern, till he finally came up with one. They fit as well as the regular scales on one of my Deluxe Tinkers.
Figured that a couple new sets for my MiniChamps were in order.
They don't improve the overall thickness, though, but they do look good...
I don't miss the scale tools either. Any M/C's that I carry have the pin scale removed and replaced with either another front scale or a back scale from a doner classic.
Been looking at a stainless set, https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F222353274322 ,but was concerned about the overall strength afterwards.
That way you always have something to look forward to!

It does the work, but it doesn't give the same feel as a 91mm or 84mm. I don't feel as though I have enough handle, but that is the trade-off for me for toting something smaller around.
Can somebody post a comparison photo of the alox minichamp vs the cellidor with the pen/tweezers please?
I got the cellidor. My thinking was if I don't like the thickness I can change out the pen scale but it's nice to have a pen on me so I'll try it that way.

I do think the tools are useful in the MiniChamp. I haven't carried a 91mm in quite a few months now since the 58mm size has served me well in urban settings.
I often use the package opener, main blade, Phillips screwdriver, scissors, pen and white LED light (I have the Midnite MiniChamp).

I’m wanting to join the club. I’m wanting an alox version though. Been watching for a nice, affordable black or red to pop up for sale.
Not interested in plain silver. I see some on eBay but priced a bit too high for me right now.
One of these days...
I’m in the exact same situation. I really wish that Vic would offer more than just standard silver on many of their alox offerings.

I am surprised at just how many times I use the white LED light on my Midnite MiniChamp.
Lately the LED and the main blade are my most used tools. :hatsoff:
...use the tweezers in a pinch..
What’s the best way to get an LED scale to add to my minichamp-with-pen?Propably buy a Midnite Manager or Signature Lite used to use as a donor, but make sure it has the white LED, they're much brighter. I have a Midnite MiniChamp, but then you lose the toothpick which I love! So I tuck the toothpick in a lanyard on my knife.

Poked around on eBay and found these SD pouches, at a decent price.:like:

Am I the only one wishing for a small awl on my minichamp? No I've been wanting one for years. That's one of the things that attracted me to the Wenger Pocket Tool Chest.
Charles.
I might have to grab a pocket tool chest and another minichamp and see about combining them. Some of the neatest 58mm mods I've seen are when they add a 91mm reamer/awl. That would be more useful then the 65mm awl in my opinion.
Charles.
Finally got my Alox MiniChamp, last weekend.

BTW, a question to owners of the cellidor version:
Are the liners on the cellidor version of the minichamp all nickel/silver too or are they aluminium?
I haven%u2019t seen one with aluminum liners yet. None of mine are.
I hope they don%u2019t or haven%u2019t switched them to aluminum. It seems they%u2019d get way too thick!
Aluminum liners on classics are annoying enough.
Picked up another MiniChamp, for my birthday, earlier this month. Ordered a set of carbon fiber scales to dress it up a bit.
Now I'm looking for a pouch.
Anyone know where to find a decent one that'll fit the MC?

Got a mini champ and a rambler couple of weeks ago (couldn’t decide which one to get so got both). I just had to have the mini combo tool with small Phillip head driver.Nice! :like:
I’m not a fan of the pen, I’d very rarely use it, I have a pen both on my compact and Swiss champ and haven’t used them once (but it’s good to know they’re there if there’s a pen emergency :ahhh)
….so I bought a new classic sd, took the toothpick scales off and swapped it for the pen scales on the mini champ.
First time I’ve changed scales and was problem-free :woohoo:
This is now perfect (in my opinion).

Great to see someone who thinks exactly like me... :D
I also hate that thick and ugly pen scale on the minichamp, and it would be something i'd almost never use.
So, when i got mine, i immediately popped the pen scale off and pressed a new regular back scale in ;)
It's absolutely perfect now. I still carry the pen on my coin/utility pouch, if i need to use it, it fits perfectly under the phillips/combo tool on the mini, or under the hook on a 91mm ;)
I might get rid of the pen scale as well. Like you, I never use it.

You won’t regret it :D
The Mini was used to open sterile packaging for my monthly Covid swab & antibody testing kit :tu:
Unable to take an action shot as both hands and, at one point. teeth were employed ::) :dunno:
Stay safe awl... :salute:
I absolutely love mine, living on that neck-strap I got a few days ago, as Steve said it's a perfect compliment to it's big brother, the Swisschamp ! :tu:
Or any other SAK, let's be honest ! I use mine to open those tough aluminium like med tabs, or to cut some packages open... me likes me likes
Here's mine, from Surge!
I did and you too my friend
Again, very nice minichamp Barry ! I'm really tempted to get one on the long term, it looks so cool ! But I do appreciate having the pen, decisions decisions !
While I really like the idea of the Alox MC, I like having the pen more. I also enjoy having the tweezers so no Alox MC for me. Its a chubby little SAK but in perspective its not bad at all. YMMV.
After reading all 22 pages of this topic I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s quite silly that I don’t own a minichampGiven that you can generally find them for under £30.... yes, quite silly. Even if it's just to have one, it's probably worth it!

The Mini Champ is like the Swiss Champ - every Swiss Army Knight should have (at least) one.Well now I really have to get one! :D

I understand completely. You'll know you've hit terminal status when your wife actually begins buying them for you like mine has :D
I am in the club :cheers:Welcome to the club!

My latest Alox MiniChamp, that I found on the eBay, came in on Monday.
Seller's discripton said that it had scratches and wear from use and carry. It actually came in looking better than the one I carry every day and still had the factory edges on both blades .
Thanks to an awesome GAW from Surge, an Alox Minichamp is my EDC. I love this knife!
:like: :iagree:
Nice shot Mac :salute:
I’m wondering- which one is your favorite?
The cellidor is moded BTW.... first thing i did when i got it was pop out that ugly pen scale, and put in a regular toothpick scale. Looks slimmer and way prettier... :D
I love both. The cellidor one had little pocket carry for now. The Alox is permanent resident on my key chain.

I’m tempted to do the same thing. I don’t really care for the pen scale and frequently need a toothpick!
Also, is it normal for the warncliff blade and orange peeler not to have much snap on opening and closing? Or does mine need a bath???
Those alox versions look nice too….

The Alox MiniChamp has arrived :woohoo:
It’s my first MiniChamp and first Alox 58 mm :salute:
I’ve been fiddling with it non stop! The first thing I did was accidentally drop it on the wooden oak floor and it just bounced off no problemo  definitely made the right choice getting the Alox version.
really liking its mini form factor and extreme utility.
Some things I did not realize about it...
that it’s only about as thick as my 58 mm caddy plus. :tu:
Didn’t know that the spoon tool nail nic is slightly curved outwards almost like the awl on 93mm. Also the spoon tool has a nice snap and stability to it.
8) Impressed by the snap on this thing.
I’m a big fan of the pick tool aka orange peeler and really like that it’s in the center of this knife.
That emergency blade is wicked and mine seems to almost have a very very slight curve at the end.
This one is definitely going to see some pocket time :ahhh

I don’t keep my 58mm SAKs on a keychain. It’s too hard to actually use them!
In other news, a drop of oil was all it took to bring the snap back to the couple of tools that felt kind of wimpy.
Now the question is, do I do a scale swap to get rid of the pen scale or go alox?

The answer is obvious... BOTH!!! :pok:

Now that's the kind of usage report that I like to read. Well done.
2019!? Clearly it’s high time for another one :D

Looks like there’s some interest for a MC challenge.
I’m not sure what other challenges are coming up- what is the consensus for the best month to possibly do this challenge?
:like: Nice MC rvlulu

What if we did a November minichamp challenge?I'm game, so count me in.
If Nov works for everybody I’ll start a thread and get this going!
What if we did a November minichamp challenge?November works for me. I wasn't planning to carve the Thanksgiving turkey with a SAK, so no conflict there.

Let’s do this 8)

I feel the same way. It's nice to have the choice of tools that both the 58 and larger SAKs have to offer. I also have both versions of the Minichamp, but the Alox sees a lot more carry time for me. I like the slightly thinner Alox.
I wish I had a view like that.:tu:
It's not a tool I've come to find very useful, sadly, cause the execution on this particular one is quite nice.

Doing the MC NTR challenge last month really made me realize how much I love that lil knife. Did the Yeager challenge this month because wanted to see how The executive would do in a toe to toe matchup between the two. For me this is why doing challenges can sometimes be so insightful. While I do really like the Executive- I think they call it a MiniChamp for a reason. :pok:[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Don’t have a Minichamp (need to fix that)
Why you most certainly do. But in the meantime what tools are on your mod?
Never did clean her after the Nailclip took over the keychain show recently.
Here is a picture with all her tools deployed. Knife, Scissors, Wharnie Knife, flathead and mini Phillips/bottle opener and of course the nail file/cleaner.

Wouldn't that be a vagabond now?Very close. It seems HarleyXJGuy has replaced the cut and pick tool with a fingernail file.

My Vagabond seen below.

I do have a custom Alox that has most of the tools of the MC. Have to say the thing that is most endearing about it is when I don’t have another MT on me for some reason the MC is always there on my keychain and can do almost everything needed on the daily.
Here is a picture because we all know it ain’t worthwhile without one. I use the clip as a keychain dangler in my pocket.

I just got my first mini champ yesterday. It's a nice little knife, I am impressedMy most used SAK. I never thought I would used more than the bigger ones, like the Explorer that I used to carry back then.
