Title: Ye Olde Leatherman Core Club
Post by: Pacu on August 12, 2010, 12:10:01 PM: Yes another Leatherman Club ::) :D

I (finally) picked up a leatherman Core last night at Wal-Mart for dirt cheap as it was on clearance for 29.99. First impressions are good as the thing is built like a brick sh*t house. Too bad the sheath is a major disappointment and will soon be replaced with prob this http://www.eleatherman.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_18&products_id=75 (http://www.eleatherman.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_18&products_id=75).

I heard the rumour the Surge was getting discontinued..is the Core too? :-[

better stock up as this is a nice tool..about swisstool size..a wee bit lighter i think.

The Core was retired when the ST300 was released, so whenever that was. :)

The Core was retired when the ST300 was released, so whenever that was. :)

i carried it all day today and barely noticed it was there. While i miss the outside opening blade of a wave the phillips long reach makes up for it.

Yes, I counted them straight after taking the picture.

I wanted to do one with blades but ran out of time that day. Not sure how popular it would be. If there is enough interest I will do it.

I wish I could bring myself to carry the darn thing, but since it'd be the tool I keep in my backpack (I use a camelbak as my edc bag), I'd rather have a surge for the weight... A core with a pocket clip, however.. :think:

Post by: Poncho65 on March 02, 2016, 07:58:00 PM: On a side note the Core is the only Leatherman that I have ever broken :oops: Twice in fact ::) I broke the pin on one of the locks and sent it in for warranty and after I got it back the same thing happened :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh I put in the letter as it went back to Oregon that I just got it back and was a little disappointed that it failed again so quickly :( I had it back in less than a week after sending it :o It went to Oregon and back to Tennessee in 6 days :tu: Here's to their customer service and warranty department :salute: That was over 7 years ago and I am sure it was a fluke but I have never really trusted my Core since this :-\ I have still used it a few times and it performed the task asked of it flawlessly :cheers:

- ST300
- Charge TTi
- UKPK
- A beater SAK - not sure what model, but always seems to be within reach, lol.

I have a nice shiny SS one in the toolbox, and a NIB one for trade fodder, but I had one that I used, hard until the ST300 came out and I don't know where it went :think:

Why was the Core retired? :think:

If I am not misteken, it replaced the ST200 because of the locking system, but why did ST300 take over? Is something wrong with the zytel?

Post by: Zed on March 24, 2017, 08:37:53 AM: For me the core was like Tokyo drift in the F&F movie franchise,it's the odd ball ,we had the original ST that I personaly still love,then the st200 with a different locking system,then I gather the to LM's zytel range they did the core,I liked the core,but as LM dropped there zytel range and due to demand for a tool more like the older versions I guess it's where the ST300 fits in :salute:

I have also been weary of my Core as I guess they were just starting to work the bugs out of the push tab locking system and that is what broke on me not once but twice :ahhh the first time I was using it and it fell apart. I sent it in and I can't remember if they fixed it or replaced the whole thing :think: doesn't really matter I don't guess cause as soon as I got it back I was looking at it and push the tab a couple days after I got it back and it literally fell apart in my hands :o I sent it back with a note and in less than a week there and back I had a replacement :D Talk about fast service there :o Never had any problems with the Zytel though :salute:

I have since used the Core with no problems though and have had a bit of faith restored in it :D

It was in a plastic tote on the counter with some of the most junky knives ever seen. Anything in the tote was under 9.99. Saw the Core in there with 4.99 on it. I guess i could of haggled . :facepalm:
