Started out taking individual pictures but gave up on that and borrowed Steve's idea. >:D Minus the quality.
There were two others but they funded the Roundheads.
I put the Trestle Pines in, even though the blades are straight back. Instead of the traditional spear or clip blades.

I really like these No half stops and they are the smoothest opening knives around.
Blades are a bit to shiny would be my only complaint.
The red is 14-4CrMo and the micarta is 440C, nickel silver bolsters and stainless liners.

I've been drooling over these Barlow style knife pics for weeks. Some really beautiful knives and pictures guys! So I went ahead and dug mine out. They needed a wipe off and oiling anyway! The Case and Primble are the only ones with Bone handle scales.
From left to right: Colonial, Imperial, Kutmaster, Case, and Primble. The Primble is my absolute favorite classic pocket knife. The pictures do not show the impeccable craftsmanship. :)

The Boker Tree Brand Barlows like this go anywhere from the mid/late 1940's all the way to the early 1980's  That is what I have gotten from some research  Brass liners indicate a time after WWII and some time in the mid 70's they went to steel liners :tu: I would wager a guess that the one I have pictured is from the early 60's and the one I bought from Steve looks to be just a little newer, perhaps late 60's to early 70's :tu: Just speculation though as I am no expert but have seen an owned a few older knives over the years :salute:

Are you ever tempted to file down the pivot pin ?
Short answer no.
I actually like the exposed pin. It's not as polished looking but it is a stronger design than the smooth finished pins. Especially on knives with a driver like a scout, beer scout or TL-29. It allows you to put a little more torque on the driver with out the fear you'll loosen the blade. I wish the GEC beer scouts were done that way.
If it does loosen a couple light taps will tighten it up again.
That rivet construction is the reason SAKS can tolerate some light prying, even with their brass pins.
I believe the pin is spun and not peened so putting a file to it might leave an unfinished looking pin hole.

About 45 years in the pocket. No blade play. No cracks. Main blade and pen blade. Amazing that I haven't lost this. It has been to the top of Mauna Loa, glacier climbing in Iceland, up to the Orkney Isles, up & down the rivers and canals of the Netherlands, into Lebanon, hiking in the Great Crater of the Negev, crossing the North York Moors, and cutting up fruit, baguette, cheddar and chunks of halva. A three brass pin knife. I wouldn't buy Schrade today, but once they were strong, cheap, and classic in design. Not the original English Barlow, but an honourable descendant. Rare here in Israel, but I'll never sell an old friend!

It look like a Ulster made one to me.
Which reminds me a week or so ago I learned the Craftsman Old Crafty Barlow was made by Schrade. It and the Ulster look very much the same with some minor differences. Albert Baer bought Ulster in 1941 and Schrade in 1946. The two knife companies made knives for one another in both plants and stamped them with the corresponding stamp.. So its little wonder these two Barlows look similar.
A pic from last night's shift :tu:

Old Colonial Master Barlow.
Yes its the same size as a Grand Daddy Barlow. Don't know why Colonial calls theirs the Master Barlow. I'm not sure the covers are original. Colonial used similar white covers on some of their smaller Barlows so maybe they are. But the thing is this one has an arched stamp which indicated a 1926 - 1938 time frame. If that is close to right I'm not sure of the covers being original. It would look really great with some good stag covers. I have one of the newer Master Barlow. I'll post a pic of soon.

Barlow’s hold a place close to my heart. I remember my father carrying a Barlow and I remember buying him one for a holiday another year. When he died I put my zippo and Barlow in his shirt pocket before they buried him. Over the years my taste in knives changed and I always looked at the Barlow is a cheap “Chinese or Pakistan” knife that didn’t have a place with my Spyderco, Benchmade, or Emerson’s. Seeing this thread triggered me to look back at traditional knives and so I now have three used Queen Barlow’s on the way. I’ll post pics when they arrived but there is a lot more to these knives than what I remembered.

Question; is a little side to side blade play when closed somewhat normal? Is there a fix? I'm assuming no and no, but I haven't but one Barlow. When it's open there's really not much play at all.

My Barlows arrived today.
I took a couple of pictures comparing them with my Parker Cutlery Barlow which is the size of the traditional Barlows. the new ones are just a slight bit smaller which means they really fit well in a watch pocket of a pair of jeans.

My Parker is 3 1/2" like your Camillus Barlows, so I guess it is a little larger than normal.

Dean, I have one of these Camcos. Is yours unfinished on the bottom like mine? What I mean is, mine is ground/sanded down on the top (blade) side, but was not sanded down on the backspring side so that the scales and liners are flush.
I've heard rumors that Camillus produced the Case barlows at one time, and I can certainly say that these Camco frames are spitting images of the Case barlows from the 70's, but the blade stock is a bit different.
What's that pretty knife doin' in here? That ain't no Barlow!!
Thanks for the tip. I guess they were cutting corners a bit on these...

Steve tell me that's not a 3 blade barlow. :o
CAMCO was the Camillus budget line. You would think they would have at least evened the liners a bit, even if they didn't polish it.

Some months ago I made a comment here that I love in the state where the Barlow originated at least in terms of production in the New World.
And yet, I didn't have one. I say didnt, because thanks to Spartan19 and Ironman2 and Barry, I now have one - and a very nice one at that.
Here's my new to me Colonel Coon Barlow:

Nice and solid feel, thick bolsters too.
Smooth walk and talk, good snap, I'm guessing a 6 to 7 on the pull.
The bone handles show some prominent character on one side which is fine with me.
It's a nice pocketable size.
I love it :D

So wait, I thought Barlow was a cutlery company that imported cheap Chinese copies of other peoples’ designs? If I search eBay for Barlow, I have ToolClip knockoffs, coast pocket mechanic knockoffs, victorinox as knockoffs, and a myriad of garbage bin multitools.
How do the knives in this thread relate to that company?
Charles.

This thread made me go look around. The KaBar Barlow was my grandad's. I must have gotten it around 1986 after he passed. I don't know when he got it. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190818/4a6c2c38c70c696118bae09d01cd1348.jpg)

Case Barlows. Top two are USA era and the bottom one is XX era. When I first saw the top Barlow I thought it had been tipped and reshaped. While doing some research I found more with this blade shape. So Case made some like this in the USA period.Great looking trio of Barlows

I like the Camillus 10. This is a nice one... Like David, I like the long pull spear blade. I don't totally understand the numbering system
Check out this old Camillus catalog for the pattern numbers

Thanks for that catalog Steve! Great read! The number at the base of the blade on the older Camillus knives is the year of manufacture?

Thanks David! It cuts like a champ and is still tight.
Speaking of Camillus, here's a 51 I picked up from Steve a couple years back.
Here is a two blade Case Grand Daddy Barlow.
Here is a two blade Case Grand Daddy Barlow.
Got this one yesterday at a local estate sale. Russell Barlow with spear point master blade.$45 Thought it was a good price. Goes with my Russell with the sheepfoot master blade.
Welcome back Capt. You have an Imperial Barlow which is a shell construction knife as opposed to having full pinned Bolsters and covers or handles. These were made this way as it is a very inexpensive construction method. They do use very good steel though and should take an excellent edge. If it was me I would work some epoxy under the scale and call it good.
Thanks for the advice Steve. Is it possible to change the scales on a knife like this or would it be more trouble than its worth? The main thing is that its a good reliable knife. And its non locking given excessively draconian knife laws we have in this country.

Keen Kutter Barlow.
Jim, those are the kind of Barlows my granddad and uncles carried on their farm. We called them Agway knives, after a chain of farm supply stores in these parts. I think you could pick one up for a couple of bucks in those days.
That's a beauty David ! :dd:
Yes, I live in South Carolina now, but I grew up in Maine in Agway country. I remember Agway!
When I was a kid, my dad bought me a used Barlow for $1 at a gun show. It was probably only the second or third knife I'd ever had. I promptly lost it within a few months.
At the time, I thought Barlow was the brand, since it said it right on the side. I have no idea what brand it actually was.
Keen Kutter Barlow.
Re-post from the "What traditional knife are you carrying today?" thread, but this Barlow deserves a spot in "The Great Barlow thread"...

Funny, as we nowadays make fun of instruction manuals stating the obvious, but it seem that this has started years ago.
Reminds me of military equipment where many obvious actions / figures will be listed on various items (and vehicles), just to make sure the soldiers are aware of them.
Got a GEC 14 Lick Creek Barlow in today. Its really nice.
A recent pickup,,,, Camco. The metal mites got it pretty good over it's history, but it's still a wonderful knife.

As I understand it, Camco is short for Camillus Company. They are listed in the old Camillus catalogs, right along with their normal branded items.

Very nice LC. I'm a fan of the horseshoe stamp on the older RR Barlows. This mini Barlow was near to hand today as it happens. The White has the older style Bolster but is a ROUGH R Y DER.
