I'm sorry if this is not what some might have expected. I did not yet look into peening etc.
So what's this about then?
Well, after restoring/fixing my '91 Swiss Champ I wanted to stop using it on a daily basis. So I was looking for a modern replacement and settled for a Cybertool 41.
I wanted better drivers and had no use for the fish scaler.
First thing I've added was a magnet to the bit holder. Boy, it was not easy to get it cleanly down in there with super glue on it (I mean the magnet). The magnet had its own mind.
Anyhow, I was happy with the result and use it frequently with the additional bits I've bought.

However, I did seem to miss the magnifier of my Swiss Champ sometimes.
So I had a look for a potential donor and found this old "Cyber" Shot (he he), and it went like this...

Fits perfectly into the space under the bit holder...

Cover for scratch protection...

It also works as a close-up lens for my mobile/cell phone.

Thanks guys, there always seems to be an optic element in pocket cams that can be used as magnifying glass. And it's fun to take them apart :D

The space under the bit: holder goes a bit further underneath the bit-magazine. That's where the mags handle rests.
One could also tuck other things into it I guess. Like tinder...

Nice work Matt :salute:

Now that's a handy mod well thought of :tu: :like:

Awarded. :tu: Congrats on your first badge.
Placing magnets can be a right nightmare. I keep an old camera lens on my desk, quite fun to use. :like:

May I ask what you use it for?
For some emergency situation?

In case I need to solder something. Ribbon solder and a lighter can get it done.
Much of what is on the Cybertool is ideal for fixing small electronic stuff.

Thank you all. Glad you like it :hatsoff:

@McStitchy
I've bought a defect CyberShot.
Which part did you use for the magnifier exactly?
Is it the viewfinder?
-
Welcome to :MTO: qwerty85 :hatsoff:
I've taken it from the lens itself.
I've put an arrow onto the attached pic to illustrate :salute:
I did remove some of the surrounding plastic to achieve the desired shape.

Seems I missed this the first go around :dunno:. Excellent mod. Welcome to MTO qwerty85

That’s a very nifty idea, McStitchy!

Thanks Rizzi :hatsoff:
The one thing I miss on the Cybertool, a magnifier.

Great Scott !!

One thing that might help with placing the magnet: use a nail to keep it steady and press in place with the glue. After it's glued on, just pull out the nail.

Genius. :salute: :tu:

That's a good idea, why didn't you tell me back then? :pok: :D

It was one of those situations where one thing lead to another.

Sorry, my bad. I'll get my time machine and let you know back then.

Thanks man!
I've successfully extracted the magnifying glass from the camera.
How did you cut the plastic? With some sharp-edged pliers? And filed it afterwards with the Vic file?
Is there the chance that something breaks?

...
Basically yes. I've used some small precise electronic side cutter with a flat bottom side, like the one in my attached pic.
...
Is there the chance that something breaks?
Yes! Dont cut directly into the plastic. Carefully nibble away from the sides and take your time.
This stuff files away nicely. I mainly used the CT41s file.
Good luck and have fun :salute:

Awesome! I've got a couple of broken cameras around here, and that is one use for parts inside them. Of course, a Fujifilm and a Kodak both north of ten years old probably doesn't have the same quality of lens as a Sony.
-
Who knows? And it's fun taking them apart :tu:
-
I've made it.
Luckily, if I close the bit holder with the mag glass in it and and "shake" the knife, it does not move - so I guess I don't need a scratch protection sheet?
I've made one mistake: Obviously I was too forcefully and a little part of the plastic ring broke (see the photos attached). I've glued it and it seems to be stable. There are some glue rests on the plastic as well as the glass. Do you think it's ok to try to remove that glue with spiritus, or do you see the risk that the glass blurs or something similar? Is the magnifier itself glass oder also plastic?

Nice :like:
I'm pretty sure it's glass qwerty85 :tu:
There's a bit of a hollow space, like an overlap, that the shape of the bit drivers springs provide when you open it.
I put the little arm in there first.
For the lens cover I use a piece of shrink tubing :salute:
