Well, the 58mm is a great series, indeed. The Classic lives on my keychain. Why do the blades open on the 'incorrect' side? Is there a good reason or is it an oversight?
And I really like to carry the Rambler as my EDC knife/tool. Loving it. The Classic is not bad, but I really like the extra thickness of the Rambler. Oh... and the blade opens the correct side (oposite to the keyring - what I highly prefer)

That is a beauty! :2tu:
I see that the file is a real file, not that stippled thing that comes on the 58mm today. What are the scales made of?

The scales appear to be some early plastic / ivory replacement maybe celluloid
The inlay is very neatly done it a very nice little knife.
I picked up another yesterday of a similar age but the scales have been given a nice wood grain effect ... i will post some pics when I clean it up

Sometimes the smaller things are the most under estimated. Like 58mm SAK's. I have 91mm's and a few 93mm's, but I can say in all honesty, that my little 58 on the keyring is my most used pocket knife. Period. It's always there on me, and I can't leave home without it. People who know me know that I am a fanatic for the most compact tiny piece of gear that actually works at it's intended task. A bi-product of years of ultra light back packing I suppose. Small monocular instead of binoculars, soda can alcohol stove instead of my old Optimus, peanut size pocket knife instead of a larger stockman or barlow, and a Fenix E01 instead of a AA mini Magalight. I worship at the shrine of maximum minimalism.
I LOVE the 58mm!!
Bottom one is about 15 years old, and has seen a LOT of use.

The Victoria Princess repost:
As for me it's a vintage model for sure all with Victoria tang stamp, exposed rivets construction and older cross-cut nail file.
Actually I'm pretty amazed how they peening down those tiny little rivets in this thin 58mm one layer model...it's for respect.
I'm not a huge 58mm frame size fan but I like any riveted SAK, if you know what I mean. ;)
So it's a 620 model or...? I appreciate if somebody can help with exact identification... :tu:

You would not believe some of the stuff that little knife has cut down! It's broken down a LOT of cardboard boxes for recycle bin, and other cutting that I would have thought too much of fit. I've used it like I stole it, and it keeps on working.

I seem to recall hearing that a SOSAK member fielddressed a deer with one. I agree they are quite useful little knives.
Wow! There are some absolutely BEAUTIFUL little SAKs in this thread :o
My red Cellidor knives look Plain Jane in comparison for sure ...
(but I still love 'em)
Thanks Andi. It seems it's an oversight on Vics part then. I may have to mod mine then - Shouldn't be too difficult.Well, the 58mm is a great series, indeed. The Classic lives on my keychain. Why do the blades open on the 'incorrect' side? Is there a good reason or is it an oversight?

Oh... sorry. I didn´t read your replie. Well, IMO the 58s are great for keychain carry. Or with an added lanyard on the keyring. The Classic knife blades opens on the side of keyring. The wrong side for me. Most of the time something is in the way or needs be kept back from the blade.
The Rambler opens on the right side - opposite to the keyring. So the extension with the lanyard even provides a better grip and nothing is in its way.
That´s why the Rambler opens correctly while the Classic opens incorrect.
But that´s just my point of view.

The USPS came through today. New 2015 dark blue Classic shown with the current EDC Cadet. I wasn't quite prepared for how small this is! The Alox scales definitely shrink it down a bit. May need a Mini Champ for a bit more to hang on to! :DRambler is 10mm thick, Classic 9mm. Both Cellidor.
EDIT- Or maybe a Rambler. Can someone tell me how much thicker the Rambler is compared to the Classic? I imagine at least a little bit, the Philips/caplifter looks fairly thick.. Thanks in advance. :salute:

Can anybody help me with recognizing of these 58-mm models?
I suppose that 1st is a predecessor of Bijou, 2nd - Deluxe (but why there are no Victorinox stamp), 3rd - I don't know :) and 4th also is predecessor of Bijou, but why there are no toothpick?
Thanks for your answers!
4th one appears to be the Classic Gold Ingot (1 gram gold inlay), they simply don't have a toothpick

Unfortunately, it's a plastic, not a gold :(
And there are no KR, so it more closer to Bijou, am I right?

Just add scissors and you have the Rogue, which I like better than the Rambler. Flat driver is a better pry tool than the SD nail file plus can handle #2 Phillips, and the standard nail file can do most screws that the Ramble 3D Phillips driver can. I like the standard nail file for cleaning under my nails too.
I have one on my keys.
I have some Rovers and Bijous and if I ever get around to it will mod the Rovers to make Rogues

TazzieRob,
Your comment inspired me to add a Rogue to my meager 58mm SAK collection. The mailman just dropped this one off this morning. It has some pocket wear on the scales, but the tools/blade appear to be unused :tu:

ITS HERE! (took 8 days longer than I expected, but I am always very optimistic when it comes to shipping times :-\ )
First 58mm SAK, a rambler, and it will be my new edc (maybe by itself?!). :like:
Really like the small size, I have small-average hands and it is comfortable to use with a few fingers, tools are easy to take out, and easy to close with one hand.
Was not expecting the weaker springs, but everything is buttery smooth and snaps back.
The little philips is great, and the toolset will pair very well with my Hiker out walking and camping. :drink:
Edit: Forgot Pics!!!

Thank you NorCal, sadly I don't know much about this knife as I usually buy 91mm and 84mm sizes, but I liked the case that it came in, so that's why I bought it.

The camos get carried, but not much. The LEs not at all. My usual is the silver alox MiniChamp.
I´m not a fan of keychain carry either. I used to have a red MiniChamp on it, until one of the scales broke. It´s green now and I carry it in a belt sheath or in the nice sleeve that came with the 125th anniversary editiion.
I made my own leather keyring sheath for my beloved classic. Simple pouch sheath, wet formed so it fits like a glove and takes almost the whole depth of the knife for security. Makes it easier to use not having it 'attached' to the keyring, but as a pull out tool with nothing attached to it.

Indeed. The brown leather belt sheath fits an MC like a glove. A black leather belt sheath is on my wish list.

but that Classic should be rust shut now because it's on a brown leather sheath! :D
The Classic is a perfect companion, but I'm looking into ways to use it off the keychain

I keep the Manager on my house keychain at all times ( about 6 years now ). I keep my minicamp on a ball chain and wear it from time to time. I'd love to find a sheath like the one I have for my Manager. Its made in China and I've looked around a bit but so far no luck.Have you tried AliExpress :tu:

That was always a concern of mine too. The risk of losing the knife, plus the additional size has kept me from using them.Anyone use this for 58mm carry?

Yeah, I had one of those. Once.
Then I made my own from heavier leather wth better sticking that held the knife more secure.
I don't recall. I have (2) of them, new and never used. Message me with a reasonable offer, if you'd like.Anyone use this for 58mm carry?

I pocket carry my 58's too. For my Minichamp, I cut the tip of the small finger from a leather glove for a sleeve. It's worked for the past two years really well.
I got this faux leather sleeve from Vic after they refurbished my old Classic.

I have a new-to-me 58mm mod inbound. Photo from sales ad: It has two Cutco blades in it! :tu:
FB, when you get it, please put up photos of both sides's back springs and liners. It seems to have a width of 6 on one side and 5 on the other. I'm interested to see how it's set up. A nice one, serrated blades are a nice addition.I'll post pics when it is in hand. I should have it by Monday.

I have some VVV - bonnen left and was thinking of a alox MiniChamp. But now I see that silvertech 58mm and now I'm in doubt! Silvertech is so nice!

I never had an issue with the blade for general usage, but like you, I respected its limitations. I am hard pressed to find a sharper blade anywhere, except perhaps the Opinel. I just admired the creative thinking behind this mod. I never would have thought of it :D. You're definitely right about the blade making a good awl!
Looking good there FB. I reckon you've space for quite a few more though. Don't go soft on this yet .... :like:

The Rambler and a flashlight ride together on my keychain
I think this might be the most appropriate place to put this. Honestly the number of different places is kind of overwhelming..
I wanted to make a locking mechanism for the blade on a 58mm SAK...I pondered it for an hour or so...
and this is what I came up with:
maybe someone has come up with something better but I find this works like a charm. The pen works as part of the lock, when extended the blade can't move. However, if you retract it, the collar can be slid right off the blade. The blade functions as a great awl now, something I couldn't do safely before.
Cheers,
H.G.

Did anybody buy some of new 2021 classic SD?Of course! I have a Lime Twist one.
I also noticed a strange thing: the "coarse" part of the nail file seems shorter in new SAKs.I've never noticed it, but I'll give all of mine a look. And The sweet berry is very aptly named!
