Well it's ergonomic and delicate. Definitely a gents folder, not a hard working knife...
It's so sad that Kershaw knives are only budget options in the US. :-[
There they are really nice, fun and inexpensive folders with so many different features (SpeedSafe, IKBS, different blade steels, shapes, sizes, handle materials and colors, etc.) you can try almost any and every feature of modern folding knives and have a very decent collection in a few months

My favorite that I own is the OSO Sweet, I could find it at very good price. :)
The ones I'd like to own are more than 30, but the CQC Series, the Chill, Whirlwind, Launch and the new Method have been on my  sight for a long time. Their neck knives are also very sexy and decent looking.
If only Kershaw had a similar price in all countries, I'd have never gotten a Ganzo or other Chinese branded knives I'm sure of that
I have a bit of a Kershaw problem
I very much like the Knockout......... .......but I know it won't fit my carry.
Also very much like the Skyline, (semi) ordered it once, had it in hand and felt it was to small for me........bought by somebody else the same day....
Now there's a massive discount on it, and I've grown to love small & light
I will post some newer pics tomorrow, but here's one to avoid, got it super cheap on amahttps://forum.multitool.org/index.php?action=post;topic=68477.10680;last_msg=1631764zon for like $13, but it is stupid big, heavy and the paint is slippery, I had to scuff the flipper and lock with a wire brush to make it easier to use, a beater I guess. Identity(big stupid ugly slippery heavy is what that means )

Believe it or not the identity and knockout share a very similar footprint, but that's about it, I would rate Identity a 3/10 and knockout a 9/10, when you compare them it's hard to believe the same company makes both although one is USA made and the other made in China. When you use the knockout you say damn thats a good knife, the identity you say damn thats a pos

Funny how that works! :pok: :D I have the same issue with the thumb stud on my Scallion. The thumb stud is on both sides, but the handle is only notched out for right handed people, so it's hard to open with your left hand.

never knew that and I carry the black scallion from my pic above all the time, but in right pocket. this zing is impossible to use stud, its way too close to handle, sometimes I wonder how I get them so cheap until I discover the flaw.

in fact when I bought the Broken Skull I got a bit delayed on my purchase and the blue model got out of stock the fastest of all colors , so I had to get a white one.
Same happened 6 months later with the Blue Talwar, I wasn't fast enough and it sold out in a breeze
as a side note, "I'm blue" is one of my favorite songs from my teen years :D

Thank You, Beard! I had watched some youtube videos saying how good it was and traded two of my other Kershaws for the Olive BLK Knockout (love anything olive handled) for it when the chance came. Can't believe the Knockout only costs $60 new. Seems like it would be more with the Swedish steel and aluminum handles.Kershaw Knockout! A.K.A the 1870BLK.

very nice, like the color contrasts, enjoy. It's a great knife, been one of my favorites since I got it.
Hey Demel,
Kershaw has a lot of good knives using Sandvik steels that are much better than their Chinese 8cr and 3cr blades. Even their 420hc(like the Link) seems to retain an edge a bit better than the 8cr they use. Although, I really like the Cryo that uses 8cr13mov for the price, so I cannot complain too much. :P

Great thread :tu: one of my purchases this year will be a Kershaw Bare knuckle. Kershaw doing a manual knife on kvt bearings and something better than 8cr....I have a lot of hope for it. Kershaw really does give great value.

as I posted before, my first Kershaw was a Nura 3.5, (https://www.knifecenter.com/item/KS4035TIKVT/kershaw-4035tikvt-nura-35-flipper-folder-plain-blade-stainless-steel-handles) at the time their cheapest offering with KVT. I don't have that Nura today, but I remember its flipping action and budget but very serviceable steel got me in love with the brand, following 4 more knives after that one :salute:
That is a beautiful Skyline! Nix has good taste picking the blue handles. :)

Most Kershaw clips are too tight on my carpenter jeans. This is in no way encouraging doing this, but I usually over spring the clip a little at a time until it is "just right". :)

Kershaw Volt II, Thistle, Clash.
Clash is very comfortable, despite having a sharp-edged look. Black coating much more durable than I thought. Volt II is quite full in the hand, with a thick blade for its size. Volt and Clash are fast openers. Thistle is only manual. It has a button release.
Only two Kershaws here. Cool knives.

Skyline......tip up or tip down?
I swapped to tip up which leaves much more sticking out, played around a bit and the re-positioning to open when tip down seems almost as fast as tip up.
Can anyone explain why there is negativity towards the Speedsafe AO? Some youtubers and some on bladeforums seem to not like it, but I never hear a reason. I would never dream of deassisting my Blur as others do, I don't quite get it, if you don't like the feature why buy the knife? I can see legal reasons or restrictions being an issue but I love AO. That Dividend I posted a few posts up fires out like its on amphetamines, really sweet knife.
Maybe I'm lucky, never had one break in 10 years(of course by saying this I will surely have one break by next week )
:ahhh
I know all of this from youtube videos.......but seeing it summed up like gives me serious 2nd thoughts about that Knockout I'm itching to get
Here is the Kershaw Link, Leek, and Skyline.
I found a few Amplitude 3.25's at walmart on clearance for $5 each. I opened one for myself, giving one to my brother, might resell the other...one thing I find weird is the one I opened has 2 bronze pivot washers, looking into the other clam packs I see one has a nylon and a bronze, the third one has 2 nylons and slightly different printing/silkscreen on the package and the scales look thicker on the side view. I find these to be quite odd, why all three have different washers? Maybe produced in a different factory? It's strange I do wonder if the thicker one with nylon is maybe a fake, but not sure if Kershaws are faked.
It's a decent knife, has a Leekish quality to it and nice deployment

I see your Leek,

Very nice, Spartan! :like:
I didn't know Kershaw made the Leek in that finish. :)
I'm a bit disgusted with my Skyline......
Firstly, 14C28N.......great steel, more than good enough compared to 8cr13
My main problem is deployment, it's just not a good flipper, especially not after few months pocket time, and what gets me it's not even obviously dirty....
Currently it's easier to use the horribly sharp blade stops like thumbstuds, but that's less than ideal.
Yesterday I tried to cut a dead branch off an office plant, wood was a bit harder than expected so I couldn't get through......went to close the knife and found the liner lock at past 100%
Thought about it and that alone is not a deal breaker......with the single liner a bit of flex is to be expected.
Maybe try one of the models with bearings if you cant carry an assited, heard good things about the atmos
Did the full Nick on my Skyline, and while I had it apart put a 17 degree edge on it with the Lansky :woohoo:
:hatsoff: I think the term is "sticky sharp"

Which model is that one? It may be my computer screen, but I can't quite make it out in the photos.
I am finally playing with the wave opening and feel it is a worthy knife deployment method in some situations. Not a fan of thumb-discs though. :-\
But, with the Emerson Kershaws, the wave makes a good thumb opening thingy.
CQC-4K, I was close tho, pic looks greenish but it's more like coyote tan G10Indeed. Basically the same knife. I couldn't believe how cheap they had gotten a few years ago. The build quality is outstanding. Mine was $7 on clearance at Wal-Mart. :ahhh

The weight of the blade makes the wave feature extremely fast once the break threshold is surpassed. It closes quite smoothly as well with no lock-stick and a fair detent. Not drop-shut, but definitely doesn't feel cheap. How is the action on your CQC-4K?
Following up on Skyline:Thanks for the information and experience with the Skyline, Beard! :salute:
Needs smoother G10 under the clip, it's very difficult to insert and remove from jeans pocket due to grippy scale and tight clip.
You do get some misfires if you try to use flipper with no wrist flip, seems worse if knife is sitting and is "cold", but opens 100% of the time with wrist action
Be nice if they had a skyline 2 with bearings, better clip and larger lockbar release cutout, would be a killer knife, definently enjoy this one it's just not very fidget and pocket friendly :salute:
Well I don't really carry these as they are a little on the clunky side, even the little 1040, but boy do I like them! All that old-school 80's lockback charm and very nice looks.Absolutely gorgeous knives, Frankki!

I picked up the Kershaw Dimension a while ago. Its a beast of knife. Thick Ti slabs and thick blade. It flies when deployed which I like :D. The speed safe torsion bar had broke twice tho. Kershaw warranty sent replacements so all good. I carry it more than I report on, mostly around the home. The blade being 8Cr is what you'd expect from Kershaw ( they do a good job on it ).

Nice looking folder! :tu: I really like the stainless bead blast finish version because of the blue accents. My favorite thing about the Amplitude is the sleek design and so far, the best deep pocket clip, makes the knife disappear in your pocket.
Did the full Nick on my Skyline, and while I had it apart put a 17 degree edge on it with the Lansky :woohoo:
:hatsoff: I think the term is "sticky sharp"
:ahhh nobody? I might have to take one for the team :rofl:I might get one, but my budget has been trashed for a few weeks. I decided to buy both of the Free Ps, AND another Gerber MP1, AND another SOG PowerAssist, AND another ToughTool.

Unlike most Kershaw's, Atmos is non assisted, and runs on KVT bearing system. I guess you could call it a poor mans Zero Tolerance(me being the poor man and unless I win the lottery I will never have a ZT ) and is designed by Dimitri Sinkevich and has that bent scale shape of the higher priced knives.Thank you for taking the time to write that, Blackbeard! Seems like it may be a good candidate for a budget EDC knife. :)
Scales are G10 with carbon fiber inlays, blade steel is 8Cr13MoV. This thing is extremely lightweight, 1.76 ounces and at first glance seems too light for what it is  but construction seems sturdy and scales are rigid.
Pros:
-Came razor sharp, only tested it on paper but it's as sharp as any of my sharpest knives
-Well Centered, maybe 98-99%
-Blade grind is even on both sides
-No blade play, and good detent
-Deep carry clip, clip is not too tight and has good smooth non g10 area under it, lanyard hole
-Feels very ergonomic, although the bent portion of clip creates a minor "warm" spot
-Good spine, flipper and backspacer gimping.
-Light as a feather
-Inexpensive, $28.50 USD
-Good fidget factor, has only had maybe 1/30 opening misfires so far, when you close the blade enough to get it over the detent ball you can shake the blade closed
Cons
-Not too many cons just some observations on the construction that could be better
-Knife needs momentum to fully engage lockbar, if you partially close the knife and then try to slowly open it again, the lockbar will not go to correct postion, this is only occuring if you dont use the flipper and try to do a silent/slow open with no momentum.
-Where the lockbar meets the blade tang, the tang is very short, I didn't get a good pic of this, but there is not a lot of tang real estate that sits on the bar, however there is a scoop on the spine that engages with the blade stop so I dont think this is an issue.
-Bearings feel slightly gritty when closing, hopefully this will improve over time, glad to see they used oil and not that stinky grease other Chinese bearing knifes use
-Some people may not like the softer steel, may need more frequent touching up
I will follow up later on after I have carried and used it more, but overall I think it's a winner and deserves the accolades many reviewers have given it.

Awesome.+1

My slightly tuned Skyline gets more pocket time than anything else these days...... :hatsoff:
Nope, my pocket clip stands about 0.5mm proud of the scale and it's never been an issue.......probably my least problematic knife when it comes to climbing out of the pocket by itself when you sit down.....
Lock bar relief was further relieved to accommodate my fat fingers.
Disassembled, cleaned and lubed.......and the big one: secondary bevel increased to what Lansky says is 17 degrees. :salute: Laser
My current phone is jinxed, my first ever cracked screen, and then I dropped it a second time in 2 weeks......another crack and some structural damage.
Next day I realized one of the chassis screws was ripped out and preventing the cover from clipping back into place......used the Skyline as a screwdriver no worries
I'm slowly falling in love with 14C28N :dd:
Blackwash LeekThat is a great finish on a Leek. Very nice. :)

And that's why I always buy professional/industrial model phones even if the performance/features suck and they're bulky. My current one (Sonim Bolt) is supposedly able to be run over by a truck and still be unscathed. Unfortunately, the camera's a joke. Looks like something from a toy. One of those models with a better camera would be the Kyocera DuraXE. I've actually taken some photos for here on it (camera USB/Charging cable bit the dust), and they turned out quite good.
Updating some of my previous Kershaws thoughts:Thanks for the info, Blackbeard! :salute:
Skyline: carrying it a lot, flipping action has gotten much better and I really love the blade shape, exceedingly sharp and cuts amazing, however it is ripping the seam of my pocket badly.with the rough G10 and tight clip.
Atmos: still great, no complaints, highly recommended
A couple of cheapies I picked up in the past 2 months:
Hotwire - A $10 Walmart exclusive, not too bad for the price, has speedsafe assisted opening, on the small side, uneven grind and horrible tiny overtight pocketclip
Cinder - Tiny key chain sized knife was under $7, thumbstud a little hard to open with one hand, has an itsy bitsy liner lock, Love the tiny blade for opening clamshell packages and boxes

Give the atmos a try GG, it always opens and shakes closed perfectly, very lightweight a really nice knife.
One of my favorites is a custom by JD Ellis in 14c28n.
He actually worked on the HT with info from Sandvik. Its top stuff.
I guess BD1N is similar.

I went back through this thread and realized I had forgotten to post the very first Kershaw I had ever bought.
