This seemed about as good a place to put this as any..

How about a multitool with a small digging implement?
-
Impressive of the guy holding it together while digging his foot free... :salute:
This may sound like a joke, but it isn't meant like one: The Eat'n Tool XL or a metal spork or a hobo knife are three examples of multi-tools with a digging implement, at least.

+1, that's actually a great idea

I'd agree with the eatn tool. The hobo tools won't stand up to hard use like this, and i suspect you'd be better off with the flathead driver on must MTs.
As for the story... I'm occasionally amazed what people accomplish when there's no other choice. Also, this is the kind of thing that really reinforces how useful it is to have ANY kind of tool on you.
And, I can't help but wonder how messed up that knife is now, and whether or not it will get put in a frame and retired.
Great story. Thanks for sharing.

Great story!
I agree about the spork and flat driver. I guess a plier based tool would be better than a SAK as it has a bigger surface to dig with.

That's a crazy story, he's a badass for sure.

man, that dude is total badass!

Crazy story
Personally I would prefer something to break the dirt/snow up. Once it's loose It would be easy to brush it out of the way with my hands. Something like a flat head would probably work well.
-
+1 dustin. I would rather break up the surface with a mattock-like action and then scrape it away with my hands than try to spoon it away with anything pocket sized.
This is an amazing story, similar to the guy in that "however many hours" movie.
This really makes me want to be even more OCD about having my cell phone on me than I already am, or to carry my handheld radio more often. Digging yourself out when trapped under a heavy object and profusely bleeding is the right kind of badass, but I'd rather be able to call for help.
As we say in the industry, file a flight plan. If you're going somewhere dangerous, make sure that help will be on the way if you need it.

That's a tough guy. Inspiring. Hope he regains at least some function in his leg.
Also, important to note that sterility was not an issue here ;)

good story bro

Amazing story, although I am a bit surprised the chemical tank didn't just bounce off his obviously enormous testicles!
A lot of people would have have crumbled and given in.
