Some of you might remember the last time I had a rust issue on a new Mora.....
It was on a 510, bought in a group, and stuck in a box. I had visually checked them all when they arrived and they were fine. Months later I was looking through the Mora box and was checking everything ...one out of the 4 I bought had spider rust emanating from under the handle.

I cleaned it and it came back and I eventually patina-ed the blade with a Diet Coke bath. That seemed to fix it but I need to dig it out and check again....

Now another unused Mora, a Craftline HC, unused in it's sheath, still in factory oil, has started doing the same thing.

I'm skipping the cleaning stage and going straight to the diet Coke bath since it will remove the rust as well as patina the blade. Last time, when I cleaned the 510 with Flitz, I didn't get it all off prior to the bath and the patina was spotty.
I'm thinking something in the handle polymer mix was a tiny bit off prior to molding that allowed moisture to migrate to the tang....or maybe in the heating/curing process of the handle...
Anyway, I thought I'd report it....I'll post back when I get the patina done. :salute:

damn. I was hoping this was some silly name for a new model not an issue

Robert its a conspiracy I tell ya! Better send it out to Skunkworks for a full battery of test and see what their diagnosis is. :D On a more serious note hope you figure out the problem and a way to correct it. :tu: :)

If only humans would invent a steel resistant to these rust stains...., if only...
one day, maybe...

I think they already did--that's the main reason behind Spyderco's H1 Salt steel.

I have a bunch of Moras... (a pic from 2015)
...and love 'em all but any future new Moras are probably going to be Sandvik. I have a pile of carbon fixed blades, most sitting in leather sheaths and zero rust issues (knock on wood) so when a couple of new Moras in factory oil, in plastic sheaths, have veins of rust growing out of the handle... that irks me!

As irksome as that is, that collection might need some beefing up

Its one thing for a blade to rust in your possession but quite another to rust while in transport or on a shelf waiting to be shippped. I'd be a little annoyed as well. Guess you'll need to put it to some rigors and get a patina going.

I've got to look around and see what kind of soda we have...
