I could easily do this with my XE6. In fact it would be more tool than I usually carry, which is a 4 layer SAK (explorer plus with a saw instead of scissors) and a PS4 on keychain. After I sharpened the tip of the awl, crinked and sharpened the scissors, and reprofiled the knife edge, the XE6 is a solid performer and worn on a dangler is fine in a pocket. I would probably carry it regularly but I just can't get on with the tool I use the most, the knife blade. It is hair-splitting sharp and I took a lot of metal off behind the edge and it generally will cut what needs to be cut but I just find the shape, profile and orientation of the blade to the handle to be awkward. For this reason I don't think I can play. I really love my thin SAK knife blades, both small and large too much to part with them for a month :-[

I am in :gimme: I want Ob1's Navitool :D Will post a pic once I decide which Juice it's going to be. Leaning towards the Pro right now. November is going to be a tough month for me, work wise. Let's see.

G'Day Obi1,
This will be an interesting challenge, especially with the love/hate Juice relationship some of our inmates share. ;)
I'm keen to participate, however I have one question: Can we switch between Juice models during the month? I have a Pro that I will nominate for the month, but I also recently got a KF4 that I am keen to test. I will be able to do a side by side test (for myself at least...) to see which I prefer.
I'll need some decent leather pouches, I don't think the OEM Juice pouch with the clip will work for me... I'll post some pics of that too.
Cheers for the challenge!!!
Pete

I got a new one (S2 original version) with sheath and gift box for 42€ (Actually 37€ since I didnt pay German VAT) of German Amazon. With that price it's a winner.
I see they increased to 48€ now including VAT and shipping in Germany and Schwitzerland.

Love the skeletonized S2. I have been wanting to do that. What is that wedged in the cork-screw?

Looks like a Victorinox micro screwdriver. I have heard the Juice corkscrew is roughly the same as a SAK corkscrew.

I cannot in good conscience limit myself to such a terrible, terrible excuse for a multitool for 30 whole days. What's with all these Leathermans being used for challenges. I use a MP600, not a Surge, not a PS4 and definitely NOT a Juice :twak: :twak: :twak:

I have no Juice and no intention on getting one (they are insanely expensive here at 100+ USD). Too bad, that Navi-Tool looks like a winner :tu:
If all goes well (and I foresee no reason why it shan't) I will be the proud (or not so much :P) owner of an XE6 in time for the November Challenge... Final decision will be made when I actually hold the tool in my hands ;)
-
I'm ready.
I have reprofiled the scissors a bit and now they are really good. I have also peened the plier head so it's really tight and crisp. The blade is sharpened really sharp so now it's hibernation until we start. Some Leatherman products are never quite ready on it self. You need to give them some love and attention and sometimes some tweeks to get them from meeh to wow.

I just can't do the pictures though. Pictures on this phone can be a real PITA, and I can't use a real camera as everytime my laptop connects to the internet it locks up because it's too busy doing bad things for Microsoft to do good things for me ...
Will I be disqualified if I can't do the pictures?

I have a bit of an annoyance there too- my workplace doesn't allow knives, or cameras. I use a MT all the time off the clock of course, but it would be a lot easier to do this if I could take it in there with me :-\

Day One of the 30 day Juice Challenge.
Do I need to start a separate thread to be eligiable for the badges?
I have reprofiled the scissors to get them to perform really good.
Got a new VISA card since my old had expired so I cut the old one to pieces.
I don´t know if you actually need to do that but I always do.

They mostly drive and never run, walk maybe...
No, packages are only delivered Monday to Friday. But its most likely customs that is delaying the delivery.

Day Two of the 30 day Juice Challenge.
Beautiful mornings for beeing November. Low hanging Sun and still some colorful leaves left on the trees.
The Juice S2 is ready for duties for the second day of the 30 days. I expect more action today.

It's called Thunder Purple to make it more manlier. I like it but I guess most did not because the new XE6 is green.

There's a Juice Pro for sale in a local buy/sell site. It seems to be flying below radar there. One day left. What is the value of one in good shape?

Alright. I'm in. :tu:

Yes it does. Better send it to me for safekeeping.
Yeah... Safekeeping... That's the ticket :2tu:

I think $20-30 is good deal. $10-$20 is an excellent deal. Below $10 is a steal.
-
Day Two: Using the Juice's scissors to cut up a credit card offer.
Honestly, hands are probably a better tool for this job. But where's the fun in that?

DAY 5
Changed to winter tires on my car.
Had to clean the rims and tires of the summer tires before storing them. The key to the faucet was nowhere to be found so the S2 had to step in.

New Merit Badges - Leatherman Juice Challenge (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,62948.0.html)

Whaaaat? That's insane. Maybe it was in the pack, fresh with some Oregon air in the clam shell. Maybe then it's worth it for a collector but not to be used.
-
Our girl wakes in the morning screaming bubbles, bubbles. Got out in the cold and did some bubbles. Oh, the things we do for our kids.

It seems they are highly collectible. There is one on eBay now at 168$

Wow. You have to be happy about the quality nowadays if the toys don´t break before they need a battery change.
Really like that KF4. A lot of utility.
-
I failed already. I need scissors and I just got a new Skeletool I want to carry. I will still be carrying my C2, but it will be with other tools.

Haha, yes. Well this is the 2nd bubble gun. Like you said the first one quit working after a month. Was going to fix it but saw it in the end of summer clearance bin and grabbed another.
If the KF4 had scissor instead of the saw it would be perfect for me. Other than that for it's size it shines.

Frozen milk in the fridge  Checked if thermostat is working. Replace electronic panel on a 12 year old fridge for $340 or get a new fridge for $1500... decisions, descisions :wait:

I usually take the route of getting a new fridge in the hope that latter models are more efficient than the last one I had.

That blade actually cuts tomatoes really well. It is much better than it looks.

Good point. Hopefully we will see some good deals during Thanksgiving. Till then we just got one big Freezer :-[

My Big Lots haul tonight. Spent $7 of wifey's money. A good night for me :woohoo:
-
Today I got a belt from my kids. It´s fathers day here, I think it´s another date in other parts of the world. Actually it´s tomorrow but since I´ll be travelling then, I got the gift today.
I was extremely pleased to see the belt was too long. (good psychology from my kids)
So I got to shorten it and that was a good opputunity to exercise most of the implement on the juice.
I used the philips to remove the belt buckle. Then I used the scissors to cut the leather. I have reprofiled the scissors a bit and they cut the belt with ease.
After that I missed an awl that the S2 has not, and the challenge became a challenge. The smallest straight driver is sharp enough to make the hole without too much effort so I was able to complete the task.
Good day! I was not too fat for the belt and I got to use the juice. :D

Bathroom cleaning duty today. Fixed an unhinged popup drainer while at it. Happy wife = Happy life :)

DAY 8
More than a week with just the S2, and it´s going great.
Actually decent drivers, decent pliers, good size scissors and a sharp blade is all I need in an EDC role. Yesterday, we made a small 6.5 mile hike in the afternoon, even though weather was gloomy, and made a snack on the halfway and all the food prep and making walking sticks etc was made with the S2. Unfortunately we were a little short of time, day light is becoming scarce around here, it was dark at 4.15 pm, so I didn´t bother to stop to make any tool task photos. My kids are real troopers and can walk a long way with and be happy about it.
I had one screw to tighten on our porch so I had something for the challenge..... :salute:

Sunday night is Three Deee night at home. Checkout the lenticular slip cover image changes. Wanted to open a bottle of ginger beer...whaaat, no bottle opener in the KF4. That sucks! Now I got to use my teeth

Ohh. You are really skilled with that. I can do it but nowhere near your speed. I was going to post that some day in my challenge but now that seems just pathetetic in comparison.
-
Used the Juice Knife to cut duct tape to setup our Mission Control room for the coming holiday season. We are going to get very busy monitoring all sorts of system activities. Might not be able to posts pics daily >:D

DAY 10
Installing some robotic end of arm tooling.

Adjusting and securing tubing and cables so they do not get caught.

Broke the refrigerator water line trying to haul away our old fridge to be replaced tomorrow. Dang those rigid copper lines... grrrrrrr . Thought of a project to replace all those rigid lines under the sink with flex lines... someday. Till then a quick and dirty soldering job.
-
Removed water supply line from old refrigerator to be used for the new.
-
Got the new fridge this morning. Lots of pieces to unwrap and install. Wifey is happy :) She did not buy into the idea of connecting a keg to the water line  At least I can stock up on Rocky Road again.
-
Breakfast burritos at work today to kick off the holiday shopping season.
-
On my way home after work.

New toy and play time with my kid. After a while I am playing and she is helping and asks 'Is this going to be like LEGOs?
-
Sunday Honey Do #1... fix slider bolt in door. I have been putting this off for weeks but it took me less than a min once I found the correct screw. Thanks to this challenge it's finally done :)
-
Sunday Honey Do #2... Hang new frame to cover an unused phone outlet. The large Flat Driver in the Juice is great for light prying duty... and I emphasize the word 'light'.
-
Sunday Honey Do #3... Open new Olive Oil can to refill our daily use bottle. Punch tops for easy flow are not only for beer cans ;) The awl made this clean and easy.
-
A date tonight with a T800... 'Old but not obsolete' :sa:
-
Converted fishing pants to work pants. I think I would have been ok as is with our HR police, but I had an excuse to use my Juice. Drop point blade made it easy to unpick stitches.
-
Leatherman goodies arrived today :woohoo: No before pics, sorry... was too excited to open.
-
Long day at work today. Too tired to be tooling around at home. Here's a pic taken about a week ago when we played with bubbles.
-
Another busy day at work. No time to be Juicing around. I took a few pics for days like this. Here is another one.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/rishardhanaffi/LMKF4c_zpsfagfsyu8.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/rishardhanaffi/media/LMKF4c_zpsfagfsyu8.jpg.html)

Lazy morning. Wanted to replace light bulbs in our bath room but pushed it off for tonight. Took this picture instead.

-
Jamaican Style Ginger Beer  Thank god it was a twister cap. No cap lifter on the KF4 :-[
-
Replaced light bulbs. There was no need for the Juice but took a few pics anyways.
-
The gas cap retainer in our van broke last month. Used a toilet flush chain to replace it. This is why I salvage and save parts :P
-
Replaced an old and loose electrical outlet. No other tools were used except the Juice. The drivers and wire cutters performed flawlessly.
-
Electrical outlet job continued... The tester showed that I had wired it correctly, phew :P
-
Paid a visit to Cabela's and Best Buy.
-
My 100th pic for the Challenge :woohoo:
My retired Juice drawer.

It is a great pic. I like all the colours.
Thanks! I love the shiny Juice colors... even that XE6 Thunder Purple. The KF4 Solar Yellow is my favorite. That's one reason I picked it for this challenge because it will pop out in even in crappy pics taken.
-
Sunday Honey Do #1... roll out the good carpet for Thanksgiving. Had to cut off some fibers that were sticking out.
-
Sunday Honey Do #2... nail back a loose floor trim in the kitchen. Used the Juice pliers to pull out the old loosened finishing nails.
-
Sunday Honey Do #3... clean the Ship in the Bulb. My brother in law made this for us. Got a clever idea and did a Juice in a Bottle :ahhh He would have had a good laugh if I showed it to him. Sadly he is no longer with us. RIP Chummy.
-
Used the bottom of the Fridge Crate to make mini goal posts. The saw worked better than I thought it would. It took a while but it got the job done easily.
-
Mini Goal Posts continued... we are now ready for some Turkey Day football  I meant soccer for the kids. It should be obvious but note that the soccer field lines were photo shopped.
-
Third date with Furiosa in two months. My favorite movie this year so far. Love it :gimme:
-
Tow Mater is running out of juice. Needs a re-charge.

Tow Mater's hook need some work done.

Sunday Honey Do #3... clean the Ship in the Bulb. My brother in law made this for us. Got a clever idea and did a Juice in a Bottle :ahhh He would have had a good laugh if I showed it to him. Sadly he is no longer with us. RIP Chummy.
Juice in a bottle is awesome :tu:

Glad you liked it

Dollar store piggy bank for the kid. Deposit coins, get Daddy to unscrew the bottom, withdraw coins, repeat... about a million times, lol. That thing was tight and the Juice pliers got a good work out. I was exhausted too :P

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all. My KF4 is somewhere in there :D

-
Have been at work since Thursday night with very little sleep. Will post something better tomorrow.
-
Deeply discounted storage ottoman... must take home or else it will be gone. Used the KF4 ruler to see if it will fit in the car. Under 32 inches and we are good :tu: Happy wife, happy life :)
I also used the metric ruler to measure the bike's saddle setback earlier this month. So the ruler is a nice touch. LM could have easily printed them on all Juice models. Wonder why they did not do that
-
Installed a door sweeper to stop a cold draft. Got to use the diamond coated file which I very rarely do. Did a very good job.
-
Could not get gum out of my kid's bubble gum dispenser. Had to pull out two pennies stuck together. Stolen candy is sweeeet 8) Watching Top Gun later to end the week.

DAY 30 Grand finale.
Actually I managed without any problem with the Juice S2 as my only multitool.
A few times I missed the pen and the flashlight of my Mindnite Manager that I use a lot, but the tools of the S2 is what I need in an EDC role. Pen and flashlights are not really tools.
What has been a challenge more than anything is to remember to take and post pictures every day.
I like the Juice S2 but it´s not the end all EDC. Can´t really put my finger on why. I miss a file, is one thing and the scissors aren´t really great. I´ve reprofiled them so they are decent but not more.
I consider it one of the best choices for small pocket size EDC multitool, but that is a market segment that is actually missing really strong contenders.
Today arrived a package with some new Leatherman tools.
Plain edge Skeletool and a Style CS. I think they´l make a good combo.
Good timing when this challenge is over:

Very nice combo and a great thread.

Finally, its over... tomorrow is SAK time :D

Day 31... :woohoo:
When I started I honestly thought I will not be able to post daily. I had no doubt I will use the Juice at least once a day so the challenge was taking pics and posting. I had a plan and it worked out very well. Had lots of fun in the process.
Here is something I have been working on this month... saved it for the last. Inspired by the movie How to Train your Dragon :)

My Juice KF4 usage during the challenge...
Tools used regularly: Blade, Needle Nose Pliers, Philips Driver
Tools used quite a few times: Awl, Serrated Blade, Medium/Large Flat Driver
Tools used occasionaly: Regular Pliers, Small Flat Driver, Wood/Metal File
Tools used once or twice: Saw, Ruler, Wire Cutters, Diamond Coated File
Tools never used: Hard Wire Cutters, Extra Small Flat Driver
Note:- I used the bit driver kit once to get to a deep hex bolt.
Tools missing in the KF4 and thoughts...
Scissors - The KF4 would have been perferct for me if it had scissors instead of a saw. But no MT is perfect.
Cap lifter- All the Squirts has one, just saying. No biggie for me though. Can do the coin on a table trick.
Can opener - Never needed one. Would have needed it if I was traveling with my wife to open milk cans.
Tweezers - Never needed one. Would have been nice if it had one. Sometimes they are very useful.
Cork screw - Never needed one.
I guess if I had a Micra or a Squirt in my keyring the shortcomings of the KF4 would have been covered. I hate carrying too many things with me so most of the time I EDC a S2 and nothing else and the only thing I miss in that is an Awl.
Conclusion: If you need to go small, light and can have only one tool then any Juice other than the XE6 and Pro will be good choices. As a plus it's size, appearnce and eye catching colors does not look threatening when you take it out in the mall or at work. Easier to use than a key chain size MT, got decent pliers and can do most tasks a full size MT can do.
Also enjoyed seeing others do different thins with their Juices too. Good job everyone. And thanks Ob1 for hosting
-
Congrats on everyone who made it through. This has been a great thread to follow. Thanks for hosting Obi
