The idea for the CST™ (Combat Stripping Tool) was born during a deployment as a combat medic assigned to a Forward Surgical Team in Northern Afghanistan. During intense life-and-death situations, sometimes trauma shears simply wouldn’t get the job done, so Kelly L. Rodriguez designed this utility blade to pick up the slack. When everything is on the line, the CST™ is there to take control.

It looks interesting, althoughg I am not sure it would work as an emergency tool as it has no bottle opener! :ahhh
But then, the Raptor is almost three times the price and also has no bottle opener, so maybe EMT's in Oregon are different from EMT's everywhere else!

So presumably that knife uses what we over here would call a Stanley knife blade..... which I think is quite clever. That front cover doesn't look overly secure though :think: I would imagine that if that fell off and the blade came out inside the clothing you're trying to cut, that might complicate the issue somewhat :whistle:

I dunno- if it was something that fell apart the first time you used it I doubt CRKT would produce it.
I am sure they have done some testing at least. Either way, I will test it out when it comes in. :D

Ordinarily I would agree, but as a military medic's tool I can see an actual need for that, versus the average civilian market tool where such a need would be very specialized and rare.

I would certainly give it a shot. A lot of it depends on the sheath, and how well it allows for airflow. I would hate to try to use a super rusty blade.

Wouldn't a sheepsfoot bladed knife, especially a fully serrated one do the job just as well? A Spyderco Byrd Rescue II at the knife store near me is exactly the same price as this tool. And that can be used for everything--I'm not a first responder and still use mine all the time as a work knife for farm use.
Looks cool, but overpriced for what's essentially a fancy baler twine cutter. But, it looks awesome.

On the one hand I like the idea of the replaceable utility blade. On the other, it looks a bit awkward to use, so I'm not entirely crashing how best to use it. Perhaps if they produce a short video on what is meant for that would help us understand its purpose.
Still, it is different enough to make me curious about it.

The page mentioned Feather razor as the blade type, which is a very sharp, high quality blade for safety razors.

Really? A DE razor blade seems a very odd choice of cutting edge for cutting through potentially heavy garments :think:

From the pictures on the CRKT website it doesn't look like a safety razor blade (although they label it as such) but rather a razor blade for one of those straight-razors with replaceable blades. That makes a lot more sense.

I like the handle design. Squeezing it under a seatbelt or clothes and pulling up to cut, it makes perfect sense. Seeks like a decent price too, Knife Center is listing them at $20.
