i take it this is a more streamlined version of the g-shock? all the ones ive seen are quite big
looks nice :)
its the big bulky ones i dont like too much they feel huge as there quite errm tall  my brothers had a few
I got this one for Christmas the year and really like it. I keep wanting another model one but I'm not to sure which one to get.

I had two of the bricks gave them away to nephews, they're huge :D
Don't get walking by a plane crash site wearing one,you could be mistaken for walking off with the black box :ahhh :ahhh

that looks great, while out with my daughters a while back i saw a guy with the same cockpit model as me but it was silver , i liked it that way, :tu:
Here's mine...granted it seems huge, but I love it. Can't wear small watches anymore. Love all the functions too.
For some reason I just love the Mudman G-shock. I had the od green one for a long time. It still works great, but I got the red one as a Valentine's Day present this year and I just love it. I wear it everywhere...work, biking, everything. They are great watches! :)Here's mine...granted it seems huge, but I love it. Can't wear small watches anymore. Love all the functions too.
i like them no matter what they look like , but ive ended up settling on a style i started with not small but for me, as yours is for you, i like the red as well, im thinking of getting a yellow G for MTB'ing, see what comes along :tu:

Zed, is there any real difference between the DW-5600E and the DW-5000C-1b, since you now have both? Is the DW-5000C-1b actually smaller/slimmer than the already-small DW-5600E?
Here's mine...granted it seems huge, but I love it. Can't wear small watches anymore. Love all the functions too.I bought Mudman last year, but I returned to the shop after 2 days-I just couldn't wear it, the 6 bumps on the case back was so uncomfortable;
I don't wear mine too tight so the bumps didn't bother me except that they broke my arm out (allergic to latex). So I coated them with clear fingernail polish so they don't sit against my skin and irritate it.Here's mine...granted it seems huge, but I love it. Can't wear small watches anymore. Love all the functions too.I bought Mudman last year, but I returned to the shop after 2 days-I just couldn't wear it, the 6 bumps on the case back was so uncomfortable;
I know that those bumps serve as a way to let the air flows between the hand and the watch, to prevent sweating, and I wanted to filed them down, but I gave up and returned it.
Thanks for the timeline Zed.
If you're still in the market for a 5600 style G, I can highly recommend the GW-M5600BC-1ER :tu:
The negative display isn't everyone's cup of tea but I love it, and the bracelet instead of the usual band makes it really nice and still very light.

Stupid question, but if a chronometer is going to run off of atomic time, why wouldn't the manufacturer make it as to where it'll work around the world, based off of the nearest atomic clock? :/

After some reading, I see that the earlier models had a stainless casing w/screwback surrounded by plastic, and in the 90's they switched to the the lighter plastic case w/stamped steel back. What is your opinion on the difference in durability between the two designs?

well as far as ive read from 96 the DW5600e that i have now was the first to have composite fiberglass module casing instead of stainless steel , they say the new version is lighter and stronger, so i guess a overall improvement, evolution :D

To add on, the DW-5000C and DW-5600E had differences in functions. But the most noticeable under use was that the DW-5000C used a micro-light (a mini light bulb) to illuminate the display whereas the DW-5600E employed electro luminescence technology. This, together with the different sized battery reduced the battery life from 10 yrs for the DW-5000C to about 3 yrs on the DW-5600E. This of course was a conservative estimate, as there have been reports of DW-5000C running on its original battery after 20 yrs!
Whether or not the DW-5600E is better is subjective. Some find the stainless steel DW-5000C hefty (feels higher quality), some find it heavy. It's all up to individual preference.
Looking at it from a multi-tool perspective, one could say that the DW-5000C is much like the original Leatherman PST, and the DW-5600E a Leatherman Blast. The Blast is like the successor of the PST; it comes with Zytel inserts, new plier head, arguably better, but many people still prefer the PST.

I like Casio watches a lot, I've got 2 G-shocks, 1 Sea-Pathfinder and 1 Pro-Trek. See pictures below ;).
First my GW-9200-1ER Riseman (solar powered and wave ceptor), I've attached a small compass to the wrist-band to make this a full ABC watch (Altitude/Barometer/Compass). This is the watch I wear when I go out in the field, or in the Ardennes-forests.
My SPF40T Titanium Sea-Pathfinder, for well-dressed occasions and my PRW-1300-Y-1VER with negative-display (solar powered and wave ceptor) for casual wear 8).
And last but not least, my oldest G-Shock, a DW-6900 from 1997, I still wear this one every day at work.
a good way of putting it mate, although i was collecting old casios and those old lights are nothing compared to the newer type of lights, but i agree i love the PST style as i did the old dw5000
Am I the only person on this forum that doesn't see the appeal of a Casio G-Shock watch?
I got my G-Shock DW-5600-E "used" (quite misdescribed, as even after over a year of wearing, it still appears brand new) for $25 or $30; one of the best purchases I've made. :tu:
Am I the only person on this forum that doesn't see the appeal of a Casio G-Shock watch? Not really my thing either if I'm honest. Great watches I'm sure, but not my style.
I have to rephrase... I EDC my DW-5600E, but I doubt I'll ever buy anything bigger than that. ;)Am I the only person on this forum that doesn't see the appeal of a Casio G-Shock watch?Definitely.. ;) :D
i dont like how tall they pertrude from the wrist, none of them really strike me as a watch id love either however i still plan on getting one as i know they are tough for work
When i had some birthday money for my 40th i had that watch Vladimir in my hand but ended up going more for a dress type watch as had a few G's at the time :-\ how stupid was i :D very nice mate :tu:

The forum warned me that this thread hasn't been commented on in a while. However, I figure this is the best place to ask my question.
I just got my G-shock 6900 and it is awesome. The only issue I can find is that I don't see anywhere in the manual instructions for turning off the beep that occurs every time you hit the mode button. Does anyone know if it is possible to turn this off on this model?
Got my G back this morning. Funny thing is I just pulled in the driveway and up comes the FedEx truck. Whoppeeeeee!!! :DHow is everything working?
To "mute" your G-Shock, try this:
While in timekeeping mode, keep pressing the lower left button for about three seconds. that should mute the button tones. Repeat to turn mute of.
Hope this works for your watch ;).

Sadly, this did not work. I suppose this is something I will get used to. I like the watch too much to get rid of it.
Just like new well it was new anyway to start with. Maybe they put a updated module in it.Got my G back this morning. Funny thing is I just pulled in the driveway and up comes the FedEx truck. Whoppeeeeee!!! :DHow is everything working?
There is explanation how to turn off the button operation tone on page 5 in the manual for 6900.I don't know about the others but that doesn't work either on my 6900 ... :(

Was only $15 at a market, but looking in to it I'm 90% sure it's a fake, but it was worth a punt and will do for a work watch.

@ PTRSAK what does the case back say? the module should be in a square with model to the right
At first glance it definitely appeared to be a fake what caught my attention was the day of the week because the letters look too skinny also the 3 sub dials look "off" as well . The case back screws looked weird if you look at the ones in my picture you will see a difference. The lcd display also appeared "off" in relation to the sub dials. I checked Casio and model DW7900 doesn't show up in the GShock line up however there is a G7900 and a GW7900B-1. I'd say this isn't a real GShock sorry.
Target was having a buy one get 50% off one sale on watches, so one of the ones I purchased was a DW 5600. It's date starts at 2010 which is a cool update from the older models. Other than that it has not changed. I'm loving this G so far :tu: :D
What do people think of the auto illumination on the g's? waste of battery? a gimmick? personally i love it :DI've heard of the solar batteries refusing to take anymore charge after several years. Personally, I would not own a solar powered watch again based on what I've learned. I am perfectly capable of replacing an ordinary battery and/or gasket should the need arise.
any ideas of how long the batterys on the solar G's typically last?

As for any use of the illumination feature, while it does consume your battery, I do not believe it is any kind of gimmick. I use the illuminator on all of my Casio's to check the time at night.

They're generally good for a few years. Could last as long as 10. But eventually, they quit holding their charge and need replacing. I'm not saying they're not any good. Just not my personal preference...Quote

I wear a tough solar every day going on about a year now.
is it gonna go dead on me. :(

Some of them have a cool little trick where you tilt the watch towards your face and it lights up on its own :)
A few just for Jerseydevils delight... :D
SoI did help at last ? ::)
What are you looking at?

I went with the black with the positive display, I was on the fence on which one to get, (the OD green with negative display is sweet!), but I know black can blend in in a business environment, so I went wit the black.

If it was me I would have picked the same color too :) I read that people are having visibility issues with the neg display and I felt that the bright yellow for the Japanese limited edition would be too gaudy.

Thanks guys! I got it used, but it seems to have barely been worn. It's a big sucker but very comfortable. It's got a nylon strap rather than resin, you can see the yellow underside of it peeking out from the top of the pic. It's a wide strap and very comfortable. The yellow and black is pretty sharp looking too. Now to figure out how to use the tide info, moon phase function, four alarms, two stopwatches, world time, and whatever else is hiding in the functions..... :)
I'm a little tired and think I may have already said this in here recently, but I've been wearing my DW5600 constantly for a while now and it's one of the most comfortable watches I own. I use the daily alarm and stopwatch often so wasn't quite getting along with my Citizen eco-drive which is analog. I own a smurfload of watches but if I do buy another it will definitely be some kind of G. :salute:
My DW-9052 has become my everyday work watch. As I'm sure you can imagine, a watch being worn in a paint store for 8-10 hours a day can get a bit dirty. That kinda sucks, because I really like that watch, and would like to wear it out and about in a less messy condition. Fortunately there's a solution to that - get another one! :D

I have no Idea how change between the different modes on it yet though

Next time the battery runs low, take a look here:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f43/how-change-battery-g-shock-19704.html (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f43/how-change-battery-g-shock-19704.html)
It´s easy to swap the battery and your G will last another few years!
Yeah I was not to invested in the battery change because the watch was honestly in pretty rough shape.
Some day I want to score a nice analog G.
Just a little bump.
Sported my DW-5600 E today. Put the GW-M on the desk to think about some modifications.
I have bought a case with the black / grey faceplate from the GW-M 5600 BC model to make a watch with more subdued colours. While doing that swap, I will be replacing the battered resin strap and bezel, too.
While at it, I am thinking about modding another G-Shock. I bought a DW-5000SL, which is a reissue of the steel cased early DW-5600C. I think about switching out modules with a standard DW-5600E one, as I dislike the Spike Lee Logo in the backlight, strap on stealthed resin and have a nice "sleeper" watch. Looks like a cheap Casio, but has the nice SS case. Still unsure if I should mod a collectors piece, though.
Then I have a DW-5600 BB which has a completely blacked out faceplate, which I do like. But it has a negative LCD which is hard to read in twilight. So maybe the positoive DW-5600 E module will go there instead?
so many decisions...
Thomas English is very good :tu:

Could you run that by me again in my language?

Just buy a few and you´ll be a fluent speaker, soon. Just like MT and SAK speak - It´s contagious.
Edit: I understood the humour. Thanks for the compliments, though Zed. Grathr, did you receive my package yet? While I will let you know what I come up with mod wise, I´d like to hear about your G-Shock torture.
Functions are COOL!!! Imagine my how much time I spent trying to master the Rangeman's Massive list of functions

I've been eyeing either one of those or the slightly less expensive G9300. What are your thoughts on it thus far?
I just scored this G Shock. It is the model 5081
So far I'm loving it.

Cool socks?
What is your wrist size, if I may ask?
And what models do you favour?
Sometimes you can get away by swapping the strap to teh one from another model that is longer.
Or, you do fit some adaptors and wear a Nato/Zulu strap.
Is there something like the tool finder that SAK's have?
Is there something like the tool finder that SAK's have?
As a G-shock newb, I was hoping to find something like this, but no such luck yet. I had some success doing Google site searches of the G-shock website for the features I wanted. I also noticed that many of the watches are offered in several different color schemes. As an alternative, you could post a list of the capabilities you want and see what folks can suggest.
So I have decided there are to many G-Shok models. I mean how do I find the one that has the stuff I want and looks they way I want it to? (Not flashy, mostly black so I can wear it with my uniform)

My wrist is nearly 9"/23 cm around. I also like my watch a little loose, i.e. I don't want to feel like it is squeezing my arm or restricting the movement of my hand.
Up to this point, when I've worn a wrist watch in my adult life, I've pretty well stuck with Seiko divers on bracelets. This allows me to solve the sizing issue by simply getting a couple of extra links added to the bracelet. However, the selection of G-shocks offered on bracelets is quite limited (perhaps even to one model).
Now that I'm a Scout leader, I'm looking for a watch to take on various scouting adventures. I would like one with the following features/attributes:
- 200 m water resistance
- at least one alarm
- compass
- toughness
- solar powered
My Seiko divers are tough, 200 m water resistant, and I have one that is solar-powered, but they lack alarms or compasses. A G-shock seems like the logical choice, and I'm leaning toward the G-9300, but want to make sure I'll actually be able to wear it before I get one.
I had seen some pictures of the strap adapter with Zulu strap. Does this fit pretty much all G-shock models, or only certain ones? Do you have any personal experience with this set up?
{ So this thread ain't about G-strings :facepalm: }
May I suggest you take a look at Casio Protrek 550 series? Loving mine so far since September.
Grateful gorgeous girls. You got me at that
It is how I like to leave em. :tu:
http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/GW-Mxxx/GW-M5610BC-1/
There are some different bracelets used on G-Shocks.
- A Combi bracelet used for example here:
The bracelet is quite expensive, so buying another one for links might be out of the question
- A ss/ion plated bracelet used on most of the aviators
http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/GW-3xx/GW-3000BD-1AJF/
It is quite long, I have one that I will measure for you. It is a bit slim for my taste, especially on bigger watchheads but comfy and easy to adjust.
And quite a few different / proprietary bracelets used on different MT-G. Giez etc. models.
Nice on bigger arms and with all functions you asked for is this, for example:
http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/GW-Axxxx/GW-A1100-1AJF/
The already mentioned 9300 Mudman series features a compass, too:
http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/Mudman/G-9300ER-5/
Available in different colours and has an atomic sibling
The quite new Rangeman does that too and adds Alti/Barometer.
http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/Rangeman/GW-9400-1JR/
Your list:- every G-shock does this.
- 200 m water resistance
- every G-shock does this.
- at least one alarm
- see above
- compass
- every G-shock does this. - Look here for example:http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,55705.0.html Grathr tortures a nearly 20 year old one.
- toughness
- many options, not too many with a compass, but see above
- solar powered
[/list]
The adaptor will fit most G-shocks with "classic" 16 or 18 mm lugs. some newer G-Shocks have special lugs with a prong in the middle for example, those will not thke the adaptors.
The adaptors are quite "boxy" in design and will nor fit all designs equally well (optically, that is).
The G(W)-9300 will take the adaptors. How well the design fits is up to your preferences. Look here:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f17/mudman-9300-zulu-strap-adaptors-880181.html
I hope this did help a bit.
Maybe you want to look at the Protrek (former Pathfinder in the US) series, too.
They do only have a WR rating of 10 bar, but are quite rugged and well equipped.
Then there is the SGW-500, for example, a nice, affordable ana/digi with compass.
Or just get any G-Shock you like and clip a small compass to the strap.
Maybe I'll contact Casio directly and see if they have anything else to offer as well.
Great info lowtech checking it out now and you are prolly right about leaving the watchuseek forum alone.
So all G's are 200m water resist? Mandatory option for me.
I really like look of the GA-1000 series watch face with the 9, 12 and 3 on the analog display. Has to be mostly black for work wear and of course I want a analog display.
Compass would be very handy to have. Whatever powr option saves me some money is good, prolly battery I am guessing.
So yeah the GA-1000s seem good but I feel like I might be missing something better. Takes forever for my slow internet to load the g shock page or I would just browse though all of them.
Still may do that at some point.
NateJ, aforementioned GA 1000, which is the biggest G in my collection, does have a strap circumference of about 21 cm.
I´d suggest to have a look around in the PRO TREK model family. There are some models with one piece straps as factory option and some more that will accept them easily. If those don´t tickle your fancy, maybe let us know which G-Shocks you like and we´ll have a look what we can do to mod it to suit you!
Owned about 50 G-shocks at one time during my heyday, these days down to only one, a trusty Rangeman.

Thanks for the info fellas :salute: I likely wouldn't use the alarm much at all really, but the light may get used a bit. Especially now while it's new and I want to play with it ;) I have to try to keep it exposed though, as I am in long sleeved dress shirts at work, and the sleeves will cover it most likely. I have to sort of tuck the top of the sleeve behind the watch to give it exposure. It came at mid level charge, so I want to get it up to high. I read somewhere that the charge can last a very long time anyway, even with lower exposure, but I'm not sure how valid that is.
Either way, I'm just excited to have a watch with a battery that won't die in a few months or more and then sit waiting for me to bother to track down a battery for it.

Just put it on a window sill for a few days to get a full charge if you can stand to take it off that long. A full charge should get you through a long sleeved winter without dropping below medium charge. Basically, don´t worry, it´ll be fine.
Very nice Monrogue. :tu:
It looks very good on you :tu:
Glad you're liking it :D
Thanks guys :salute: I gotta say, I'm really liking it :tu: Now that I have a watch again, I'm realizing just how much I missed wearing one. I didn't realize what I was missing until I found myself having that convenience again of having the time right there on my wrist. Plus, this G-Shock is just so cool looking, sporting my favorite look of black with some red :tu:

Sweet G, Detron. But while they share similar shape and appearance, your's is MT-G, a very different animal compared to more pedestrian model Monroque posted. :tu:
Merry Christmas Kyle!
Thanks for the pics Detron :salute: That metal band does look cool on that watch. Did it come with it, or did you add it yourself? Also, that feature loaded Master of G is probably way too big for my wrist in terms of how silly it would look. Mine seems to be one of the smaller models, and it is bigger than I'm used to compared to my old watches.
Right with ya there Detron...Rangeman all the way, brother!
G's are so-so for either accurate Temp or Baro pressure reading. For temp reading you will need to remove the watch from the wrist for at least 1/2 hour for it to adjust to the temp of the environment, as its meter is influenced by the temperature of your wrist/body while worn.
Baro pressure reader is OK but if you plan to use the watch for altitude measurement (it uses baro data for that) and being a shooter/sniper I guess you would, it will require constant re-calibration to the reference point. Suunto for example, are much better watches for that as they offer altimeter-lock function and do not require constant calibration.
I have been around ABC watches for over 10 years now, and for me it really comes down to look/coolness factor or functionality. If I were after a top ABC watch I could depend on, I'd choose Suunto. When I'm after cool look and bad-ass appearance, Casio Protreks get my $$. These days I wear Suunto Core, but be warned, one big advantage of Protreks over Suunto's is Solar charging feature. Suunto still requires batteries.
Hope I didn't bore you with this... 8)
Very nice watch. G-Shocks can be addictive, that's for sure.Yep, seeing my addictive nature with everything else on this site, I see more than a couple in my future :)
I've never thanked you for making me buy the g-shock gw-9400 I've been wearing since I bought at the beginning of December. I've tried to resist, but it was helpless. :)No shortage of features in that one. I only wish there was a way for the thermometer to work accurately while wearing it.
It is a great piece of watch, and my only (working) one. I feared it would be too big, but when I tried it at the shop, it looked less gigantic than I thought, and here we are...
I figured I wouldn't buy a second one, so the best bet would have been to buy the most feature rich one, right? :)
Danilo

The thermo sensor is used to be able to compensate barometric drift caused by temp changes, and as it is already there, they give you a readout as a bonus feature.

I like that black and yellow look Steve. Thanks Kyle. It was the last one they had at the counter at Walmart and I couldn't resist. I love an analog/digital combo and this has all the common features that I use including an alarm and 24hr stopwatch.
Sent from my XT901 using Tapatalk
AFAIK, it does not need to know the ambient temp, but needs to know the pressure sensors temp to calculate the drift caused by the temperature.
The Temp Sensor is quite accurate, it does not show amnbient temp as your body heats the watch. On most Casios with temp-readout, you can define an offset to make the readout more accurate - There should be a table in the manual how much offset is needed in which conditions.
For correct temp readings, wear the watch on a belt loop or on your pack. When out andd about you can read it easily if you fix teh watch to the shoulder strap of your backpack.
Here's my most recent addition: a DW-5000-1JF, the 2001 reissue of the DW-5000 released only in Japan. This one came from Japan, and I bought it as a restore project. As it turns out, it needed only a minor cleanup and some new resin (band and bezel). I sprung for the premium Japan-made resin for this one. It's in excellent condition and is very nice to wear.
very nice,i would love too get hold of one of these,as there close in looks to my old DW50001b i had back in 83 :salute:

Thanks. I'm actually getting ready to build a sort of modern 'tribute' model to the DW-5000-1B in the next day or so. I'll post it up when I'm done. The DW-5000-1JF is a Japan only model and was only released there. Chances are, you'll have to shop in Japan to get one; I bought mine from Yahoo Japan auctions.
I've seen quite a few DW-5000-1A watches for sale, but I don't think I've seen a 1B yet. They're nice watches from the pics I've seen though. I wish Casio still made the resin bezels and bands for the vintage screwback watches though. The only viable option for them these days are Brazilian reproduction pieces. They're of good quality (have a set on my 5000-1A and my 5600C), but an original set would be nice.
Zed is wearing a brazilian while fondling Kirks spirit....
Sorry, Guys. My mind is a bit fuzzy from an incoming flu I guess, but that made me go :ahhh.
I keep getting beck to a 5600 series G-Shock, too. There are many nice models - And I do own quite a few - But It´s nice to have a watch you can operate without thinking and which will do what it´s asked to do no matter where and when.
I still need to find the time to switch the GWM 5600 I wear as my daily watch from it´s casing into a GWM 5600 BC case and put some fresh resin on. Will be a nice, subdued watch then.
And I still am thinking wether I should wear the limited edition screwback/steel case DW-5000 SL i have.
@Zed - as it turns out, the parts for my DW-5000C-1B 'tribute model' came in yesterday. I've just completed the work on the watch. It's a DW-5025D (25th anniversary screwback) modified with a new silver LCD and a gold lettered black bezel. Check it out. Does it look like the 5000C-1B that you used to have?

Thanks Zed. I'll have to ask the mrs how much she thinks I'm worth. :D I do like the idea of the solar one, but it's not really much trouble to swap batteries.
yes mate it does, mine had gold buttons and buckle as well,i got it around the end of 83 with my first pay packet, :tu:
Nice Gs here. :tu: Going to get one soon - fancy a square one for the classic look, and have been looking at the GW-M5610-1ER. Don't want to spend much more than that, but should I consider other models? Is it worth the extra over the DW-5600E-1VER, for example?

What kind of G is it, and can you get a picture or two of what's happening?
It's hard to beat the DW-5600E on value for the money. The selling point for me on the GW-M5610 would be the look that it shares with the classic DW-5000c. I could really do without the solar and atomic time features personally, but I do like the look of it. The prices for that particular watch seem to be all over the shop as of late though.

I will likely never buy another type of watch again. Might just have to find a dress G for when I need to be fancy

MTG-S1000 The best looking dress G :)
If you let use it a couple of times, that thing is just beautiful :)
Tried wearing a G for a while, couldn't get used to it. I'm still a big Timex fan. That's why I have my entire Casio collection up for sale

You lot are really bad for me, now I have two more G s!
Photos in a day or two, need some sun (might take a while!)
The negative display one is cool. :tu:
I have a GW-810BD and like it quite a bit. I should do a G group shot at some point too.
This seemed to be the best thread for that, so:
does this look Genuine? does this model exist?

The price seems very low, but Dinodirect is not really known for fakes, but there is no mention of Casio on the page, but the pictures show a Casio... I may get one, as the price is low..... maybe.
My watch knowledge is even less than my multitool knowledge :D
EDIT: It seems to be this Casio model, IT IS the same -look at the time ....: http://www.casio.com/products/Watches/G-Shock/G7900-1/

Surprisly, it worked out that it switched automatikly to METS (Middle Europaean Time, Summertime)
Be glad if your in a country, which have the same time the wole yeahr..

Next I need a square to round out the collection......

I'm quite surprised by how much I like my DW5600E. Got it a couple of months ago, not expecting that much but feeling that I ought to try one, and I've worn it pretty much every day since. Nice retro feel to it, not too big (I was expecting it to be massive) and seemingly indestructible. My only niggles are that I seem to be between holes on the strap and that the light button is a little hard to press. Otherwise, very happy with it. :tu:

Yesterday evening, i tryed the Alarm Funktion on my analog radio solar GW 3000 out, whitout read the manual, and today at 5:30 it beept..
I used to not use much features of this g-shock because whitout a display, its a bit divicult, but it seems like i just chose the right buttons for this task..
Now its more than a shock and waterproof thing taht shows the time :)
Great, now you have me looking into the Protek range...
Thanks for the input. I don't need an absolute shock proof watch, I think the Protek may have some nice options, too. I'll keep you posted on what I find...
:salute: :tu:
Did you use a Spike Lee Crystal or one from a more recent model? I like the look, although Gold is not for me, I fear.
I still argue about putting a standard 1545 module into my Spike Lee with myself...
Would make a nice, understated EDC watch that only G-Shock Nerds would recognise as "not your usual plastic Casio"

The DW-5000SL (Spike Lee) came out in 2003. The crystals are very similar; the biggest differences are that the writing and the LCD ring are gold instead of white. I'm kinda surprised that the buttons and screws weren't gold as well. Like the Spike, this one has the 1545 module.
A lot of people have put regular 1545 modules into the Spike Lee since they don't like the '3 Acres and a Mule' logo. If you're up to module disassembly, that logo is just a card that sits in front of the electroluminescent sheet; you have to disassemble the whole module to get to it.
I'm not a big fan of gold either. My tribute DW5000C-1B watch (posted earlier in the thread) had a gold LCD, and still has gold buttons and screws. All the gold hit me all wrong, so I ended up modding it back over again and made it look more like the DW-5000C-1B. The gold on this particular watch is just enough to be understated and give it the right amount of classy without going over the top.
Spent some time in Casio's site. Finally decided on the G models I want (if I find a good deal on).
1. G9300-1
2. GW-9400-1 or GW-9400-3 (depending on how I like the visibility in both models)
I chose solar models (no battery changes) with Compass and one or two more functions (in this case thermometer and moon phases). The GW models are more complete (altimeter, barometer, sunrise/sunset) but also almost twice as expensive as the G9300.
Any thoughts on these models?...
I´m not to fluent in the international issues as I try to avoid the G-Shock section on watchuseek, It´s contagious... thanks for the insight.
I quite like the silver display you had in your watch origianally.
Especially on older models, a crooked screen is common.
The module floats rather freely, only surrounded by a rubber damper and can move a certain amount.
Newer modules often have a protrusion sliding in a valley (in lack of a better term...) in teh case to avoid a crooked module.
But I´d rather have a module that sits a bit crooked after a shock than one that is still correctly aligned, but damaged.
You don´t happen to have the silver backed module available, do you? :pok:
And btw and a bit off topic, do you know of a modern G that has a wide, double clasp strap in the grey colour the grey/yellow Gaussman cam in? Mine has a spare strap keeper from another watch, but teh wrong colour puts me off and I´m tempted to buy a complete strap just for a correct keeper.
Looks like you did a pretty nice job there! Thanks.
I beg to differ!
While the DW-8400 Mudman is the first mudman, the watch you show is even rarer - It´s a DW-8500 Codename - It shares the case, bezel and strap with the Mudman, but has a module with data memory functions. The DW 8400 Mudman shares the module with the DW-6900, hidden under a different faceplate.
Thanks for showing that nice watch!

Sure, it's Codename alright...and I should know that as someone pushing this model on WUS in '09 ;)
Early morning slip of a tongue, so to speak.

And just to be clear, I was not trying to be the wise ass. Just saw what the pic was showing and thought I´d add my little G-Shock knowledge to maybe further infect some of our fellow MTOers. In ´09 I did now nothing about G-Shocks, but I seem to remember your Codenames from over on WUS.
And BTW: It´s mean of you guys showing pics of models I do not posess while I am trying to REDUCE my collection... Just saying. Now bring em on. :D
Here is my current Casio lineup. Three G-Shocks.

I think we need a G-Shock calculator model
Lowtech helped sooooo much
But I'm a rookie but here's s 7900 Bluetooth wip
So I'm having some G problems lately. The watch doesn't leave my wrist, which means it gets wet every morning in the shower. When I then go outside into the cold my glass fogs up for a bit. Is this a bad seal? And just today, the actual hands are lagging about two minutes behind the digital displayed time, could this be the battery?
Not in any case a bead seal is the cause for that behaviour - G-Shocks are often assembled in tropical countrys wit hhigh humidity. The trapped moisture in the case may fog up if a sudden temperature change occurs. If taht is teh case, the moisture should be completely gone in a short time span. If the fogging occured lately on your watch you had for years, then probably a seal is going bad...
The lagging hands might be a sign of a weak battery. But also it may be they are misaligned due to a shock/impact. You should be able to realign them with teh hands home mode.
What model G do you have?!
There are more space approved watches, IIRC the 5900, the DW5600C and E(?) and some other Casios, too.

About 2 years now of constant wear. Gold and stainless steel are the only metals that don't corrode on me, and rubber bands usually only last around 6 months before they start falling apart.
Well, I never thought I'd be posting in this thread.
But thanks to Detron I am now addicted!

They will come down, wait a couple o months, search at forums like watchuseek, I've seen some used in sales corner, mint condition 300$, in fact there's one now, for 325$ if I'm no mistaken!
Just posted over on "what watch did you wear today?", but I figured this guy belongs over here as well. My first G-shock was an analog, but I hated having to manually set the time, so it got sold to a friend. I have only been wearing digital Gs since then, but I was just given this, and I love it. Much easier to set, and it just looks cool!

I like the contrast of teh green on the black dial - I think it would look killer with hour markers in the same green and a good lume job.
Sadly, the GA/GD cases are too big for my spindly wrists.
I have a GD 100, but I just can´t pull it off. And I keep snagging it on things.
Seeing this makes me think about my latest purchases - I have a Gulfman in another odd colour coming in (orange), should pop out of my assortment of black watches as nice as your bliue one!
I hope the shipment will arrive soon and the G inside will get a prominent place eitehr on your wrist or in the box!
Just automatics for me lately .. The Vostok is sort of the automatic gshock :D
Any news on the king gshock ricardo?

Mate sorry forgot to tell ya, the watch was sold, there is a bunch of knock offs for sale here for 20€, they look horrendous!
But I'm waiting on a package that will arrive from Germany, from the usual suspect, and I'm considering to sell a watch the beginning of the next month, and for now, the king is probably the one, if decide myself to sell it, I let know if you're interested!

sadly, I view things like this as a problem to society (or a valid reflection of our society, and that is even more terrifying)
Personally, I do not judge people based on any trivial thing such as a watch, clothes, etc. I look for knowledge, abilities, and results.
but I also would wear a G-Shock to a business meeting, and feel that the problem does not lie with me being in the meeting with a G-Shock, but rather the problem is in those who judge me based on that fact.
Printed Wingman or Sidekick, I guess? I do liek nicely arranged gear sets. But I guess this will be a little bit out of my price range.
Do you know if this is an official Casio release or made/arranged by a distributor/dealer?
Very cool, but I have to think the price will be outrageous. Still awesome though. Not that I will be buying one, but for the (assumingly) high price tag they could of picked a higher end tool than the Wingman/Sidekick.[/b]

That's wrong totally wrong, you should never judge anyone for there appearance, and when you do it, then you are problem you are the snob!
And wearing expensive things, that doesn't mean you are better then others, that doesnt mean that you have the right to walk on the street with you're head raised, felling that you are the greatest of the greatest! And I see a lot things like this happen every single day!

What a jackass.
You guys basically said what I was thinking.
One thing to add. Guys like this just need a proper ass whooping once in a while.
while I do agree that the combination of a nice suit and G-Shock looks odd, why is that a problem? if the person wants to wear that, then why the hell not? for one not everyone can afford a Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer, some that can would also ask why and what is the point. In a similar fashion one might prefer a Vic over a Chris Reeve.
A nice looking watch can also be a Seiko Samurai and that isn't exactly a high cost watch. It is sad that we live in a world where the book is judged by it's cover (and I could go on a Iliad long rant about that), but a G-shock is still an excellent value for the money and I wouldn't mind getting one or 2 down the road.
I got this one for Christmas the year and really like it. I keep wanting another model one but I'm not to sure which one to get. That was my first G as well :)

Nice one bro, badge awarded. :tu: :tu:
Anyone have a recommendation for a gshock around the $100 dollar range? Would like to look nice, dark grey if possible, but would like maybe analog time with digital feathres. Important also would be night time features like glow hands or a functional light.Quoted my own post
Does this fit any of their watches? They have so dang many now... Or, does a different brand or model stand out as a recommendation?
I had a gshock in the late 90s and it was built like an absolute tank, I've felt a couple new ones lately and they feel allot lighter (cheaper). I like weight to quality ratio.

I would wholeheartedly recommend a AWGM100B-1ACR to anybody. This beauty is simple in construction, but looks really cool, without breaking the bank. Some people complain about the hard-to-read day and date with the negative LCD, but how often do you need to know the dates? Picture is of it with me on the shinkansen heading to Osaka, Japan. What's your wrist size? This one is beautiful.

Awesome! The best thing about a G is that you can buy one at a very low price in the us you buy a dw-5600 at a discount for shout 40$... Simple and a companion for life, were did I eat this before
Been itching for a new G lately but funds are very tight. Going to have to wait a while but it will make it all the better.
You need new boxes, there's a couple of Gs without a place to rest...I do have another one with 3 more g's and two other Casio's, and I have 3 more for parts on the way, 3 lost in transit since November last year.....

I know you own a few, and Im thinking of selling my gw-7900b could be you're interest, our Santos will have something to say about this one, he wants one
Did something with one of my G’s I had never done before...... I wore it in the shower.
Obviously it held up great and had no problems what so ever. My o pay hesitation in doing this in the past is I enjoy very hot showers and the heat may lead to condensation buildup inside the watch, but on this occasion that did not happen. I also worry about the soaps affecting the rubber seals. Once or twice may not hurt but if I showered with it daily I may run into a problem with the seals deteriorating and eventually letting water in.

It's fun, isn't it? :D
I think you shouldn't worry too much about it.
It can withstand lying in the sun and also the salty body sweat etc. as well, right?

Hi guys. I'm thinking of buying my first G-Shock. Ideally below $100 and has clear watch hands and bezels as my eyes aren't perfect anymore and I want to know the time when I wake up without glasses.Do you know the model number of this one? That would help beyond knowing you want an ana-digi. There are a bazillion different G-Shock models.
I'm looking at this model. Are there better models for me below $100?

A question:
Are you going to use it primarily for telling time or do you plan to use the stopwatch, alarm and other features much?
Battery is good for about 3 years and it's a common size CR2016 3v lithium coin cell. That presumes, according to the docs on the 5535 module inside, that you only use the LED to illuminate the dial once per day and the alarm is only sounding ten seconds per day. Those two things (LED backlight and alarm sounding, which includes countdown timer alarm function) will run the battery down sooner if used heavily. If you're going to use the stopwatch feature much, be prepared to move the analog hands out of the way of the LCD display (there's a way to do that, and move them back again with some button presses).
Take a look at the GA-700 which should be under $100 USD, an alternative to this one. It has the 5522 module inside, uses the same CR2016 coin cell, and specs give battery life at about 5 years. Doesn't have a seconds hand for timekeeping but presume the LCD display would provide that. Minute hand increments every 20 seconds which isn't very perceptible on a watch unless you gaze at the dial looking for it. Operation is similar and if you use the stopwatch much you have to move the analog hands out of the way and then restore them afterward (a couple function button presses do this). As with the 800, battery life will be shortened if the LED backlight or alarm sounding are used heavily.
Was looking to find a "solar" ana-digi G-Shock that would avoid battery replacements. Didn't find one, but didn't do extensive searching, so that doesn't mean they don't exist. That's something to consider if there is one.
John
I got my solar G-Shock for $99 very recently. :tu:
Mines only digital though not ana/digi.
Thanks guys! Extremely helpful! Only need to tell time and I like that the 800 is smaller than the 700 so....A question:

Looks clean and cool, kind remember the look of a G-100.
I really like to see G-Shocks with the light button on the front like riseman rangeman and so on..
Congrats
Totally, and regarding g's I consider my self kind of an addicted person, I have quite a few, but I really like watches I can't leave home without one, I feel naked, weird but I do... And like the simple ones and the high end ones, meaning with a lot of features!Looks clean and cool, kind remember the look of a G-100.

Thanks! Its my first G-Shock and this made me wear a watch again after several years of depending only on my phone to know the time. I really like its uncluttered look.
Made me re-realize that a watch is a reflection of our personality :salute:

The red is a GWX-5600 with a 22mm adapter using a KO Tread bracelet.

Well I've managed to kill another G, I'm waiting until Monday to see if they replace the module. What model?
It's 2 years old and the display fades out when it's fully charged (it's solar).
Got this one for Christmas;I take it you have ti adjust it digitally then the arms move to what time you set or is it set via atomic?
:like:. Very nice Antti!!Thanks. Sadly this is my only g-shock i own but i have looked new one to buy so i can replace this

:like: Thanks Stitch! It actually displays the mode, UTC, Date, Alarm, or current time depending on what selection you make. I need to get a navy camo scaled SAK too :D
:like:. Very nice Antti!!
That's correct JR. I wish it were atomic! This is my 3rd G. A year ago I didn't have any. My wonderful enabler son got this for me :DI have an invicta which doesn’t have any crown, and the only way to set it is to by atomic, here’s a pic of it doing so, the second hands going super fast because it’s setting itself and does so by speed winding! I actually have a video, it’s nuts! One of my g-shocks is actually solar and atomic,
Very cool JR :like: :like:Yeah, we haven’t had much sunshine, nor have I warn a watch in a while,,
Your GW-6900 could use some sunshine :pok:
Cool Mudman Greg!:like:
I have a watch just like that one Greg. That's a great watch!
My wife just got a newThe filter goes crazy again.smarsmurfchsmart watch...
While I know there's places for the smart watches, my wrist isn't one of them!:iagree: 1,000%. There is no way I would have a "smart" watch.
This might end up as a lot of rambling but I just have to praise the rangeman a bit more.
My wife just got a new smarsmurfch, the last one broke and since she work as a teacher she really likes to get her notifications on the wrist during class and meetings to see if it's something important that needs attention (something happened to the kids etc.) but she does not want to take up the phone because then it's "ok" for the students to do the same. I don't have this need, I work in a chemical plant where phones aren't allowed in the first place. But when she got the new one I did want one too. I was looking around but with my outdoor interests and training at the gym together with everyday life I ended up with the high end ones that cost an arm and a leg to get all the functions I wanted.
Then I do know that I might want this just for all the bells and whistles and not really needing it. So I borrowed a semi-smart watch from my doughter to try it out. I hated it! The notification function was really stressing, the step-counting was 30% off compared to my phone, the heart monitor was only interesting at the gym and that was about it. I used it for a day and then went back to my rangeman.
The rangeman have everything I need and use. Correct time, compass, barometric reading, stopwatch, countdown, alarm, date, sun rise and set time. I have had it for 6 or 7 years and never changed the battery. In the winter I put it in the window when working nights and sleeping during the time the sun is up and never have to worry about the watch not have battery.
It's tough as I don't know what, meaning I can have it on me no matter if I'm working on the car, renovation, gym, kayaking or reading in the sofa.
I just love this watch and have no desire to get something else. Or maybe a mudmaster one day bot other than that.. No
Go and get that Mudmaster!!! Either GWG-1000 or GWG-2000 will do.
I started off with a GWG-1000 Mudmaster.
If there’s one thing that the Rangeman has that’s not on the Mudmaster, it’s the Sunrise & Sunset function. Anyway, that’s readily available on any cellphone app. The ABC sensors on G-shocks (Mudmaster, to be exact) are much much much better than what’s on my Garmin Instinct Tactical (which require constant alt resets even at home). It’s interesting to track a typhoon come and go using the Mudmaster’s barometer….
The filter goes crazy again.
I didn't find it to be rambling at awl. In fact, it was a very good write-up! :tu:
:iagree: 1,000%. There is no way I would have a "smart" watch.
I agree 💯 with you on the "new" watches. Give me a G Shock every day! They're tough, have more functions than I can imagine, and just look great doing it. While I know there's places for the smart watches, my wrist isn't one of them!
...just got a new chainsaw...
So what did you get. :pok:
It's a stihl ms211c not a big professional one but a smaller, I don't take down big trees but smaller ones and cut up lumber before splitting it so I think it's a good size. Beats my old partner by a mile!
Very nice. Got an old ms230c here. It gets used way more than the bigger saws.
