Title: BadWolf & Sparkys Give-a-way
Post by: Sparky415 on September 05, 2018, 10:40:30 PM
BadWolf & Sparkys Give-a-way  :ahhh

I've been looking through old boxes of stuff....

A little while ago I decided to do a give-a-way with my Mate Jeff (BadWolf)  :hatsoff:
OK it might have been more that a little while ago ::)  :-[

Up for Grabs is a Solingen knife with changeable tools (if you know the proper name please tell me)
I think it's from the 70's?

All you need to do to enter is have 100 posts
And post a picture of your favourite cresent wrench/adjustable spanner  :D

Found mine  :D

My boss had "borrowed" it, yet he negelected to ask permission or tell me he had just taken it  :twak:

The reason it opens up to the same as a 6" is because it is a 6"

Question, go easy on me please....
I know nothing about adjustable wrenches, is there really such a thing as a 4” that can expand to a 6”? ???

Not seen a 4" one, but you can get 6" or larger wrenches with wide opening jaws.  Bahco 9029, for example.

Ohhhhh.
The measurements (4”, 6”, etc ) refer to the tool length, not jaw width.
I can’t believe that I was that confused!

Nice wrench.  I like the styling on Bahco wrenches.  The Shark wrenches made by Bahco are really neat.

Not my official entry yet.
Just thought I would post these as they are on my desk atm.
The little 100mm one usually rides with my Surge.
The Gerber one opens equal to the six inch.
The six inch was a cheap one that grandad gave me twenty plus years ago.

My dad...

"That junk only grabs 2 sides of the nut. And it can even shift it's width while doing so. Don't spend time and money on that junk and buy a decent wrench set!"

Which I still haven't got

He's also the man who said "powered drills to drive screws?! When you can do your job all day with just a screwdriver, that is the moment you're allowed to grab a drill"

As a result I still prefer a screwdriver over a powered tool when installing alarm components. My co-workers watch in awe and shake their heads but find out at the end of the day that I installed faster then they did.
I need to carry my screwdrivers and pliers in my pockets, a small ladder and a battery powered hammer drill. I can carry all that at once. While they also have to carry a powered driver, meaning they have to walk a second time every time, and switch/charge batteries for that extra device too.

Only now I understand the old man :dd:

Alrighty, this is my entry. However, if I win please send the prize to someone else. Thank you badwolf and Sparky.

This one sat neglected for many years.
An old lady wanted her garden shed cleaned out.
Everything was to go to charity except tools which her sons had first pick from.
They left this bahco and a couple cold chisels.
I remember being pretty happy that day.

Twenty plus years later it still makes me happy. Have saved the day with it many many times. It's definitely a toolbox favourite.

Handle had been broken... still cool and useful though.
Not exactly an adjustable spanner but I thought I would share.

I tend not to use adjustables if I can help it. My "shift anything" spanners are the Richmond Metrinch 4WD. Each one covers a decent mix of sizes (in both metric and antique systems) due to how they work, and they actually do a damn good job of shifting nuts and bolts that someone else has already shagged up with an adjustable before you got there  :D They do still have the potential to bruise the flats due to point contact, but at least they'll shift it, and not just round it off.

Pics attached

Like a few others, I prefer using a dedicated box or open-ended wrench, but it's hard to beat the versatility and convenience of an adjustable: they work on both metric, SAE, and Whitworth nuts and bolts.  :D

I've got a few different sizes, ranging from 4" to 15". While the box wrench reigns supreme in my garage or hobby room, it's the adjustable I have with me when walking or driving around. In my motorcycle tool kit I keep a few key box/open wrenches and specific sockets, but I also have an adjustable for the unexpected.

I find an 8" adjustable to be the most useful all-around size, but my favorite is probably this 4" Diamond Horseshoe adjustable. Slips easily into a bag or pocket and has proven useful in a number of situations when I don't have the right tool at hand. And it's often just quicker and easier to pull a 4" out of a bag or pocket for some small job. Paired with a multi, it's a versatile combination for EDC.  :tu:

I guess, the only thing is there spring loaded, so they will only tighten so tight, unlike the others you adjust to what you want it to tighten to. So if you took a spring and put these on it and clamped it down on the spring it would only tighten down so far, unlike the adjustable ones you can adjust them really tight and squeeze it down to lock and fully compress the spring, get it?

Yeah cause it’s one hand only, just pull back on that lever, then lock down. Unlike adjusting then locking down, but only to a certain ftlbs, so if there’s a say 1” gap and you go to clamp down and the jaws open all the way, it’s only going to clamp so far, unlike the one you adjust, where you can squeeze down and close the gap and locks.. I don’t know how else to explain?
Say a 1” piece of “foam” pull back on the lever to open the jaw and let go, the jaw closes holding onto the foam, then lock down squeezes lightly on the foam, unlike normal ones, you adjust to what you want, put it on the foam then squeeze down squashing the foam down to nothing..

Well kinda, you could pick up the donuts without locking down  well, maybe even locking down, going to be a little crushed, as far as the oil, depends on how clean you keep your tools..

Oh heck no! That’s how biting nails stopped, cause after working in this field you don’t want to! Some days I wouldn’t even eat lunch, food had to wait till I got home and cleaned up! So forget eating food with tools!

Is there a niche in the market for a food grade doughnut tool? Kept in sterile conditions until such time as it's needed to retrieve your dropped confection.

If I win the prize Tony I will work tirelessly to develop the 'Doughnut stop retrieving' tool. The theme tune will obviously be 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.

:tu:

Congrats Nix!  You won with 4 inches!  :D
