Title: Pfeilring Multitool - 1950's (?)
Post by: baumgrenze on October 03, 2014, 07:29:07 AM
My apologies, but I can't really remember when this multitool was under the Christmastree for my father (11/6/11 - 12/13/98). My best recollection is around 1950.

You can see that it saw hard use. He fished on Lake Winnibigoshish (Deer River, MN) for 25 years in retirement and had it in the boat with him in case his outboard gave him trouble.

One attachment (any guesses what?) is missing. I've done no cleaning/restoration at all.

I searched Pfeilring multitool for images on the web and didn't see this one, so I'm posting it 'for the record.'

I can't help you out on any details but this is wicked! Love old unique stuff like this. There is still saw dust in the saw blade!

I'd guess some sort of a bottle/can opener implement is the missing part as it has a corkscrew but nothing to open bottles or cans.

Very cool set. :tu:

We have a thread dedicated to those tool set here:
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,49824.0.html

They were made all over the world for a number of years and Solingen in Germany was one of the main cities of manufacture for these.

Maybe even a set of piers, stored like in this example.

Well that sure is one elaborate EDC tool kit, even though the term didn't even exist back in the day.

I'm not sure what to think of it really, but horses for courses I guess  8)

Thank you for pointing this out. I looked at the image and ignored the possibility. Clearly the pliers would be 100-110 mm long and ~35 mm wide across the handles.

I would love an individual photo (scanner image) of the pliers from each side. I tried copying Osos' image to PhotoShop and selecting the tool for closer inspection, but  the resolution does not permit this. I don't have any memory of having seen this pliers, but more detail would help me keep my eyes open.

It is curious, but probably not remarkable, that the hook system on this set is quite different from than on the one that Osos posted. I saw the comments by several members (Osos, Ray S, 3-sews) here:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,49824.25.html

Should I post a link on that thread to this one, or can a moderator incorporate this thread into  that one? I'm easy with either approach.

thanks,

baumgrenze

I already posted a link to this thread there. Hopefully Osos will see it and post the scans you need.

This seems to be the best multitool I have ever seen. The wooden work on all of these make sit more authentic to see.
I am not able to recognise this multitool though I will definitely appreciate you for sharing this with us.

Good News!

I told my wife of 52 years about this post. Not long thereafter she found this 'cute little pliers' with her sewing machine tools. It proved to be the missing pliers, so this multitool and all its parts are again united.

Thanks to everyone for all the help in determining the 'missing link' a complete multitool.

thanks
