Title: Question about the German Army Knife
Post by: ducktapehero on March 17, 2008, 01:56:45 AM
In my never ending quest for the "perfect" knife, I have caught myself looking at the GAK made my Victorinox. I have a question about it. Are the handles on it sturdier than the handles on a typical 111mm SAK?

Nope- they are pretty well the same, except they don't have toothpick or tweezers.

If you want to go with something sturdier, check with Bill about getting an OHT fitted with micarta scales.

Oh I'd love to but mods can get expensive. I'm already trying to figure a way to get some money together to get Scott to make me an orange G-10 handled Hiker. I'm looking for a cheap way. I sure with Victorinox made alox 111mm models. That'd be sweet.

I wouldn't mind getting a Knifecoop knife too.  Those Old Schoolers are pretty darned sweet!

I don't have any of Scott's knives yet, but I keep drooling over them.  One of these days....  :D

You need to get on that. If I had the money I'd have a dozen. I like my new Farmer cuz it has a saw but the Tinker has never let me down and the one he made for me is gorgeous on top of being practical.

Have you contacted Bill about pricing?  There's much less labor involved in putting micarta scales on an OHT than making nickel silver bolsters and scales like Scott does.

I haven't yet because I already have 1 mod ahead of that that I'm saving for. Plus, I've gotten quite fond of G-10 handles.
