Welcome, welcome Z. By the way participant 3 is not Firean, or Fireant. It is our friend Fireman. His finger must have gone to sleep when he was typing in his handle. Or maybe the M on his compooter had some jelly on it or something. Got all sticky. Best wishes. G
Was this "carry a Classic" or "carry one Classic"? Is the legendary Tomo classified as Classic too?
Lähetetty minun SM-T515 laitteesta Tapatalkilla
Do other SAKs with the Classic toolset but different names (Bijou, Broker, Tomo….) qualify as well for this challenge?
yes the tomo would qualify as well as the Bijou or Broker.
I believe z1913 is going that route as well.
sure do! :salute:
Sweet! For this challenge I pledge to use 30 different Classics, SDs, Bijous, Tomos... :salute:
I'm in!
1. Explorer
2. IMR4198
3. Fireman
4. Z1913
5. Aztecypher
Just curious, would the Rover qualify as well? I'm thinking no because it's got a few extras tools than the Classic.
I had to figure out what a Rover was. Evidently a Rally with the old-fashioned pointy nail file. Looks like you have a nice Classic SD there, Tex. That's all you need anyway. I'm going to have to recollect a little, but using the old type MiniChamp last month I don't think I used anything that wasn't covered by a Classic already.
I have two Classic SDs that the previous owner carried. I like it that the scales are pre-scuffed. There will be no tears shed when they pick up some pocket carry patina. Best wishes. G
;)
I almost forgot. Welcome to the Classic Challenge. You just upped the fun quotient. G
Now who would go to Vegas with a game in town like this?
1. Explorer
2. IMR4198
3. Fireman
4. Z1913
5. Aztecypher
6. old Lefty
7.
For clarification, does this challenge include all 1 layer 58mm models of the Victorinox and Wenger models?
My Manager (Vagabond Cellidor) is a thick 2 layer.

So does not qualify.
the only 58mm knives that qualify for this challenge are the Classic, Classic SD, Tomo, Bijou or Broker.

If we're allowing the Bijou and Broker, surely we need to have the Ensign as well.

And Explorer didn't even mention some collectors favorites like the Rocknives and the Deluxes, which were Bijou-based...
Forgot I had this one as well. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is just an Escort with the LED scales swapped in?

I’ll join :salute:
I have more classic/bijou SAKs than there are days in a month, so I’ll even use a different one each day. This shall be fun!
Only 4 Days remaining to sign up for the Classic Challenge! :ahhh :ahhh
welcome aboard gra_farmer! :salute:
well that makes 10 people in this challenge so that means there will be a unique and very nifty official challenge badge available for anyone who finishes out the entire 30 days :ahhh
Hi gra-farmer,
I read your post about the Bushcraft UK site. That looks like an interesting group. We had a just joined Brit in our Mini Champ challenge. He was a real outdoor type and a great addition to the endeavor. Best wishes. Gary (IMR)
:D
that looks to be a Wenger Crusader- it would Not qualify because it is 65mm and it's also missing the scissors.
https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Crusader
It's got to be in the 58 mm range and have the same tools as the classic or classic SD toolset.
58mm knives that qualify for this challenge are the Classic, Classic SD, Classic SD Alox, SwissLite, Signature, Signature lite, Companion Alox, Tomo, DeLuxe, Ensign, Bijou, Broker, RocKnives (58mm) and the Duchess
Here are a few of the players.

DAY 1
Happy New Year everyone, so going to try the whole challenge with the same SAK classic.... unless is pushed to hard. I will not hold back, as I will use it the same way I use all my edged tools, so interested to see what happens?
First task, New years day meal prep...Celeriac remoulade, this was hard work, next was carrot and Swede mash which requires the use of the scissors for leverage...but the classic is the little knife that could...
Gra(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/9635976517c2e625ad90bb4ad604282c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/e1f108921572a5c10b3ed285b824d6ed.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/f0dc0da405d045b290e38ccdf437621f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/036c287f558a7a90be569a915ddf6c4f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/355625108b83dce2302a9bc14f734394.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/65f00dd533aa2757f93cb53b634e9ad4.jpg)

What I have noticed is that after I have finished all the prep stuff, the classic is crazy blunt (well blunt as far as I am concerned) so this will be sharpened at least twice a day at this rate.
The wife thought I was mad for using the classic to do all this...but it held up well, just had to change the approach to doing things.....just wait until I carve the venison with the classic at lunch time

DAY 1 Happy New Year! I carry my 'space dog' Classic SD quite often, but always in a case to protect the graphics.
now that's some dedication gra_farmer! :hatsoff:Venison is done....this is going to take a while...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/8497d62049238d9b84aa3218673fd3bd.jpg)
I was just about to nod off when I saw something flash by the train window. It was Sherry. She was in a full sprint and just made it to the passenger car before they shut the door. I never saw a gal run that fast with a bag in one hand and a little fuzzy dog under her arm.
Rumor has it that Gra has gotten a job in the kitchen here. Galley, kitchen? I forget. I saw him cutting up veggies for lunch. Now, what do I want for breakfast? Fresh veggies? Hmmmm. Yes, ham and eggs. And orange juice. That's almost a vegetable, right there.
I see the gang is all here in the coach as I look around. Some of them look a little bleary eyed. What time is it? Uh, oh. Forgot my watch. I thought that was my watch on the little leash, but it's my Classic. That's okay I can ask somebody for the time.

Day 1, Secret Service SAK

I have 'classic' jealousy :tu:
Day 1
Keychain exchange, Executive to Classic SD. This is, I think, my second longest owned SAK. It was my EDC when I started dating my wife (she jokes that I pulled it on her on our first date when I snipped a thread for her). It became her EDC for a while when I stepped up to a Rambler, and is now her desk knife for mail and stuff in place of another Classic (which we'll see later, I'm sure.) No uses today.
Day 1:
My wife and I spent New Years Eve in Spokane last night. We did some shopping and went to the comedy club to see our favorite comedian. We had a great time. Woke up to some nasty fog. So far, I've used my mint Alox Classic SD to snip a few threads off of a new shirt, and my wife used it to snip off a piece of broken fingernail. I've got a bunch of classics, but I'll be carrying this one for a while(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240101/737e8aeebf809174536023e61dac350e.jpg)
Day 1 - Happy New Year!
The Classic was busy today with pulling old wax out of a wax burner bowl, then freeing some batteries from their prison (for the Pocket Tool Chest over on the left), then finally cutting down the battery package so it can fit in it's predetermined resting place.
(https://i.imgur.com/EQ678Cg.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/7WDD3Td.jpg)
Day 1
Made a couple lanyards for the neighbor kids. The knife handled the paracord without issue.
DAY 2Great job
Getting ready to head to work early this morning and noticed that the very windy weather over night had ripped a large section of the roofing felt off the childrens play shed.
With a spare roll of tared felt remaining and classic to hand, I used the nail file to lift all the roofing tacks required then cut and fitted the new sections....the nail file struggled with the job, but worked out well.
Now if SAKs had hammers, the whole task would have been a one tool job

love the colors and setup of those lanyards SOS great use! Thanks
:tu: :tu:
I've been wanting to learn how to weave paracord but I already have too many hobbies.... :climber:There are actually a lot of how-to videos on YT for paracord knot tying. It is actually fairly easy.
Nice alox. Is that a navy blue or black?

Wow! I'm using 30, you're using one. I'd try that, but to paraphrase Edward Abbey, "How can I be true to one Classic without being untrue to all the rest?"
Just a little find the hidden Classics in the photo. Same game we used to play in the MiniChamp challenge. Simple rules. How many classics do you see in the heavily camouflaged background? Very tricky and difficult. Best wishes. GaryHmmm.... 5?
:D DAY 2
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
While I'm at it, I would like to commend Gra on his comprehensive Classic usage. Roofing felt and pulling tacks normally would be thought as beyond the scope of a 58mm teeny tiny. I hate to think what the wee knifey will look like at the end of 30 days.
old Lefty for this challenge please try to stick to using knives that just have the classic toolset:Hmm, I always thought that the SAK in these pics is a Classic. It has the same dimensions but instead of scissors has that opener thingy. Presumed it to be Classic made for the company named in sclaes.
blade, file and scissors
58mm knives that qualify for this challenge are the Classic, Classic SD, Classic SD Alox, SwissLite, Signature, Signature lite, Companion Alox, Tomo, DeLuxe, Ensign, Bijou, Broker, RocKnives (58mm) and the Duchess
if the task requires you to use something other than the classic toolset just explain what tool and why but try to stick to using a qualifying knife that has the classic toolset when possible
Now, if we say it is not allowed I’ll accept that but I do think it is indeed a Classic. If not, what is it then?
I think you are a proud owner of Rover.
https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Rover
Gra, I hope you have another Classic to finish the month with. That wall board is almost sure to put finished to the one you have. The men here who work with the stuff use the roughest sort of pocket knife. Generally a throw away. Or something with disposable blades. I suspect you do too.
^ and ^^
Thank you gentlemen!
Seems like a Rover indeed!
Now, since it is not included in the list of models allowed for this I'll stop using it.
The question that remains is am I now disqualified/have to start over?
Lähetetty minun SM-T515 laitteesta Tapatalkilla
Don't see a lot of Rovers here for some reason.... I took it for a Rally, then I saw the flathead screw driver tip. Sharp eyes there, Z.

Now for the answer for how many Classics are in the camouflage photo game..... The answer is one. The blue one is a Classic. The white one is a Bijou, while the red one is a Rally. Best wishes. G

DAY 3
Sooo I don't think I'll recommend to use a classic to do this job, it took a while and I have damaged the tip...but it still did the job...I might be a little kinder to the little wee knife from now on?
It's difficult to picture but the tip has a wave bend in the first 8mm

Some mysterious packages arrived at the Glenfiddich residence. In fact they were so mysterious that Special Agent SAK from the DEA wanted to take a look at them first.

Don't tell anyone! :dwts:
I never really noticed until now that Gra has been using a Bijou to do all the roofing and drywall. That is tough duty for a Bijou, which is the female of the Classic species. Might be risky to put them both in the same tight-fitting pouch. Sparks may fly.

DAY 4
Thought I would be more gentle with the classic today, so a hot bath to remove the gypsum.
After that, not having a keyring on my classic, I needed a way to carry it, so it was put to work making a simple leather belt sheath. Added a fire steel section for a task later this week....
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240104/1277eb6054814d9afdf1c99bf280c202.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240104/38a49c2d50a6abb085df47b4657d79f0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240104/e7c6be9237b538f0ca71fa5b7fc158dd.jpg)
No ring mount on the Bijou. Made for pocket or purse carry. I like your new avatar. Spruces up your posts a lot. Would you care to tell us something about the fixed blade in the photo? Best wishes. GIt's a esee candiru, a fantastic pocket work horse, but in the UK where everything is illegal, the smaller you go the less frightening it is.
:D
After the domestics was done, time to sit down and have breakfast, before finding out just how many trees are down and if a chainsaw or bow saw is the tool of the morning to get out of the driveway and off to work?
...
The pen is the older removable type. Great as you can swap the toothpick for it, but not great for actually writing (provided, I have used this one more than once--for a long time, it's all I carried around the house). Does Vic still sell removable 58mm pens?
...
DAY 4 Posting a day late. We had a health scare with Pete the dog, which preoccupied us. Fortunately, all the news from the vet is good. Here's Pete with a red Classic Wounded Warrior.
Day 6:
Took the kids to Missoula this afternoon to buy some fish for the fish tank we got them for Christmas. Used my Classic to snip off the tip of a zip lock to dump the formula into a bottle for Little Bit while Wifey took the two bigger kids in a store for a snack. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240107/0fc24410a809110ed27d338ccf2549f8.jpg)
Does that colour actually look just like the picture? If so, it’s gorgeous.
How about a Sunday Double Feature? Exciting, right? Well, I'll do it anyway. Night camera photo of a raccoon trying to decide if leftover reconstituted mashed potatoes from a box are edible. I had the same problem. Hunger ruled out the matter of flavor.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Might as well see the camera. With the bungee cord for mounting and a little Bijou from THE BOX. The bubble wrap is a homemade diffuser for the light. Keeps the camera from having a whiteout. Best wishes. G
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
I had to look up Colnago. Bicycles. I walked about 5 steps from my mailbox and took a photo. See the Classic? It isn't as close to the edge as it appears. Also there is probably a 30 foot drop down to the water. Can't tell from the perspective.
I put the leash on the Classic, so I wouldn't lose it. I lost the Classic and the leash yesterday, but found them after a brief search. Now you know why I have to tie things to my belt loop. Not a perfect solution. I have lost my pants before. Best wishes. G
 DAY 7

Day 7Do you have separate contracts with all the security/federal agencies?

Do you have separate contracts with all the security/federal agencies?
You could tell us, but then you’d have to…
Day 7
Classic has a big brother. Wife bought a Workchamp birthday present for me. She also handpainted the birthday card. I love my wife!
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
In case someone grew up somewhere they don't have many cowboys, I might explain that Cowboy Coffee consists of water, coffee, a fire, and a pot. Boil the water. Add some coffee. Stir. Let it sit a while. Put in a splash of cold water to sink some of the grounds to the bottom. Drink. If it's a little gritty, so what? If you are a cowboy with a paper towel, you can use it to filter the coffee as you pour it into your cup. Best wishes. G
:D DAY 8
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
I always heard that a man would complain about his wife's coffee made in the nicest sort of way and served in a china cup. Then that same man would wake up gritty and sweaty and drink coffee made in a rusty bucket over a campfire, smack his lips, and say it was good.
Best wishes. G
Just to make sure Classic is not jealous, he got a new Nite-Ize hook (thanks to a lead from MTSAK) and is going in his pocket sheath and then into my pocket to run errands today.
MTSAK, i like your EDC stuff. Is that a Gen 1, Model 26?

used the classic alox file to smooth out a rough fingernail and the screwdriver tip to pry open a battery compartment cover on a remote control.
here is the classic alox with another classic that i got at a police auction. it was being auctioned off as a stainless steel Swiss Army knife. When I saw it I knew right away what it was and bid the lowest bid winning it for $15. It was quite dirty but when I brought it home and polished it up sure enough on the back it said Tiffany & Co 925 750! The scales are sterling silver and the SAK cross is 18 karat gold.
It's got a nice patina on it even though I don't carry it much. I very much prefer the wafer thin classic alox as the Tiffany model is close to three times as thick and much much heavier :D

i've really been enjoying going through everyone's posts and excellent uses so far.
Jolly good show! :hatsoff:
Day 9
The little Classic helping it's brethren out by trying to pop the battery cover off this Wenger Spot Light.

DAY 10
Driven halfway across England this morning, so early start. In the Midlands on agronomy training. Currently crop walking with the classic.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240110/daf26c51edf6e0600ce81738e9a98393.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240110/e1f69f56645786e9669322422881759f.jpg)

Looking forward to seeing how it comes out!
I think I’m going to bow out of this challenge. Between being busier than I thought and my internet going out yesterday, I’ve gotten behind on posting and haven’t really been able to read the post of others.Sorry to hear that, but still see if you can continue
DAY 14
So have been busy with my own classic carving challenge, my observations are as follows:
Lateral stress when doing push or chest lever cuts is hard and not practical
Obviously the handle is not long enough, even with the scissors out to do material removal
The cuts need to be small and really chip carving
Blade edge stability is poor for this task (I have sharpened the classic 30 odd times since the start of the challenge)
Blade needs to ground to a chisel edge to make wood carving possible (I'll look to reprofile soon)
Wood choice for carving is important (I moved to willow wood)
Overall this have been a humbling experience, but it is possible as can be seen with the version 2 carving request...my 5 year old is over the moon

Overall this have been a humbling experience, but it is possible as can be seen with the version 2 carving request...my 5 year old is over the moon

Are the mini dice something you leave lying around for the kids like the ducks? Looks like you have the proper equipment for Cheerio removal. Around some houses the dog does that duty.
Enjoying the posts and pix. As usual I am contributing the worst photos. Somebody has to do it. Best wishes. G
;)
Day 14:
We are doing some heavy equipment repair already this morning. Used the Mint SD to install some fresh batteries in my little boy's RC bulldozer so he could clean up the Cheerios his 9 month old sister dropped out of her walker in the living room. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240114/0919c52816268287edc5f6f2790848ef.jpg)
... I brought out the Speed Shaver--made in 1955, it was my great-granddad's go-to razor for over 30 years ...
I bought one of those D7Es back when they first came out--previously, most RC dozers were either junk or priced ridiculously high. A little underpowered, but it's pretty decent. They make a version that has a little more "oomph" and uses standard rechargeable batteries, but it's more than double.
Mine has a bad habit of losing the tracks when making tight turns, and I accidentally slightly tore one when putting it back on the drive wheel. I need to check if Diecast Masters sells replacements.
I think I’m going to bow out of this challenge. Between being busier than I thought and my internet going out yesterday, I’ve gotten behind on posting and haven’t really been able to read the post of others. You will be missed Sherry but totally understand.
I know what I would put on the back of the keyring. Her name, phone number, and words "Reward for Return". How about a photo of a Classic on a razor hone. Best wishes. G

Hang tough, Graham. If you feel like talking we will listen. However, you don't owe us any explanation. We have all been in tight squeezes. Of all sorts. :)
Wasn't that a lame photo that I posted this morning? Might have been better if I took a photo of where I dropped my hard-boiled egg for breakfast on the floor. I rinsed it off and ate it anyway. The egg, not the floor.
Were you ever in a little convenience store/gas station that had a gallon jar of boiled eggs floating around in some murky reddish fluid? Up by the cash register. Buy an egg, and the cash register girl would fish it out with a little gizmo? Pickled egg, right? They don't look bad when the jar is full, but when there are only a few left floating in the mix with some unidentifiable floaties.... It takes a strong stomach to ask for one. I really like the pickled sausages. Yum.
People throw trash out of their cars along the road running by my mailbox. I have picked up truck loads of stuff through the years. I was carrying my 5 gallon bucket and picking up trash when I found it. A half gallon of homemade pickled eggs in the usual pinkish fluid. Tossed out of a car. (Some gift, right?) Still sealed. I had to pick it up. Took it home. Poured the contents on the ground. The fur-bearers cleaned them up that night. I bet they would like the pickled sausages too. Best wishes. G

DAY 16
found the source of the new smell....my wife's kindle fire 10
I broke almost all of my dishes several years ago.
DAY 16
So picture this scenario....
Wife - get rid of all those boxes and packaging from Christmas that has been hanging around....
Me - okay ( with the silly idea of using the classic to break down the boxes)
So with that in mind I start breaking down the boxes with the classic and there are a lot of boxes (not just from Christmas). The classic is as blunt as a butter knife, and I start ripping up the boxes, and then get fed up and start wheel barrowing everything outside to burn using the classic's fire lighting kit....all is going brilliantly and the fire is huge....then I hear a strange pop, a cracking, the smell is different....I am not burning just cardboard and paper
I get a big stick and start to pull the inferno apart, and found the source of the new smell....my wife's kindle fire 10
the classic consoled me, told me that is was not my fault....the wife on the other hand...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240116/eebddeaa43fa597eee52c1918fde2382.jpg)
Looks like a good re-profile job to me, Gra. I think I like it better than stock. How did you cope with the S-curve bend in the blade tip? Best wishes. GI have ground half of the s bend away with the reprofiling, so 4 or 5mm shorter on the tip, as can be seen below, you can just see the remaining bend and how much material removed when closed.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240117/ae448b43afe72e8fbed0cd9be3ecb44f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240117/022573ec802f44f55015dcf75f81c39d.jpg)

Boring photo of blue Classic nipping the end from one of those powdered drink mixes. You will have to take my word for it that I used the blue Classic. Scissors worked to perfection as usual.
Getting ready to make some coffee. No snow here this week, just temperatures down below the cow shed. Best wishes. Gary

DAY 18
Transplanting poplar trees to create a new wind break. Dug up volunteer poplar trees where not needed, and used the classic to cut the tap roots to a sensible size before replanting.
The new profiled edge is really working well.
Transplanted 14 trees over the last two weeks, this has been my lunch time sanity check from my full time stressful day job!!!

Day 18
When I was a kid, my dad would use the scissors on his classic to cut the end of my straw at McDonalds to make a "french fry holder." As an adult, I'm pretty sure it was to stop me from knocking it over/poking my eye out. About once a year my wife and I wind up somewhere with awkwardly long straws and I think of dad while I give them a trim.

Feeding time!! Had to give the lagomorph its sustenance. Then the canine was clamoring for his. Finally, I got to open up my vitamins which was the first thing I was going to do until the beasts reminded me that I neglected their daily rations.

Day 19
Classic was getting rowdy due to minimal use the last 2 days. Today he got to cut into a homemade blueberry muffin. Seems happier now.
I do like those roadster scales
Gra - keep using those big words like lagomorph so I can increase my vocabulary

I wouldn't having what glennfiddich was having for dinner and that muffin that Jeff was having for desert.

Your little Bijou has to be treated with love and kindness. She doesn't appreciate getting all bent out of shape doing drywall work, or climbing on a roof to pull tacks. She is having a mid life crisis, raving it up, drinking lime cocktails and overall having a good time (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240121/5d05c9a8c642db346ed60c6b09ed9c69.jpg)
Sounds like you either misplaced the little cutie or broke something. 'Fess up. Breaking something is part of the challenge. Limit testing and all that. If your daughter was playing with it and accidentally dropped it in the flusher, then just say it. The idea that Bijou ran off with an Executive or something is just balderdash.
:) DAY 21

She is having a mid life crisis, raving it up, drinking lime cocktails and overall having a good time
Yes, I can see how she has gotten a little tipsy. Had a lie-down. Put a damp cloth on her dear little head. I expect she will mope along home when the money runs out. Then you can say, "Well look what the cat dragged in." I actually think that is an annoying comment, but it is traditional. Best wishes. G
:D
That's a great idea for a paracord buddy. I think I'm going to try and make one for my son's Tinker.
Hopefully not too many executives around.... Or is she more into rangers? Please watch her!
:salute: will do....she has been a little flirty and flighty recently.....found her with a leatherman Micra 4 days ago
More opening duties. Classic is happy that we are organically staying clear of glyphosate.
Very cruel cut through the face of Mr. Quaker!
Day 22: mail call.
Camillus CUDA Quik-Action Jr., ca pre-2003 (ATS-34 and US built, as opposed to 2003-08 when they were 154CM and Taiwanese-made). Only cost me $25, and MSRP in 2002 was $168.
It has a small problem that wasn't disclosed, and honestly, it is probably normally not noticeable without disassembly. When I took off the clip to adjust the pivot, I discovered that two of the three clip screws had been pulled out (stripping the threads in the G-10). The clip was being held on by superglue. Thus, I really can't trust the clip until this is fixed, and I'm not sure how it can be fixed. Thinking about just tapping and drilling it for tip-up carry, since it's tip-down from the factory with a non-reversible clip (tip-down, RH only).
Classic on a little walk. Smaller deer footprints in the frozen dirt. Best wishes. G

Since I pestered Explorer with the Deluxe's and Rocknives and z1913 is watching closely, I feel obliged to post my share, even though I'm not participating here. ;) Quick and dirty pics of a Deluxe burgundy and marbled brown. I'm amidst moving flats, and much of the collection rests packed in cardboard boxes in the attic of our new home ... :dunno:
I am a little concerned for friend Gra. I hope he doesn't have anything in his home that looks like a 'zombie knife'. Almost anything could be construed that way if the knife banners have their way. You might actually wind up using your Bijou for food preparation from now on. Either that or your family could take turns gnawing meat from a roast. You could growl at each other like the cute little trash pandas do.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
I posted this trash panda photo in another section, but hardly anybody goes there. An old friend and good veterinarian. Rackos are really smart. I mentioned to Gra about them growling at each other when they eat. They do. A mother (I assume, it's hard to tell) will show up at a snack and growls at her kits. Won't let them eat until she finishes. The system seems to work. They have proliferated here.
That vet in the picture told me he was called out when some people were alarmed with emaciated raccoons staggering around and lying in people's yards and such. They thought the critters were rabid. The old vet sent some off for an autopsy and found they were simply starving. Hunters had brought in the varmints from the low country where it was swampy. The critters simply didn't know how to survive up here in the mountains. The survivors have since adapted, which is what they do best. Best wishes. Gary

Might as well post another Classic image, since this is Classicland and not Racko City. G

Always leave it better than you found it, team.:iagree:
Gary, my mother-in-law feeds stray cats that have been dumped near their property. The raccoons in the area learned about the "feeding" and decided to help themselves as well. So much so that there is one large bugger that would give a medium dog a run for it's money. It's so large, that it waddles up to the bowl, plops itself down in front of it, and proceeds to shovel handful after handful into it's mouth until it's full. It's quiet comical to witness.
:iagree:
Day 23
Package opening duties for what I "thought" was going to be a simple little project. I picked up this black Gerber Clutch to fix the red one that I got from the GAW box (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,90040.0.html) for my son as one of springs broke and I stripped one of the tiny star bit screws trying to get them out. This little bugger has almost beaten me twice. :bnghd:
I had stop this evening to eat dinner but I'm going to finish tomorrow. Suffice to say, I am not enthused with the design of the Gerber Clutch. This explains why it's no longer in production.
(https://i.imgur.com/Mol9J7V.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/MX8xAel.jpg)
I gave my son a Tinker for Christmas so he's not empty handed but he liked the Clutch as it was his first "multi-tool". I was trying to bring back in working order, and I'm sure I can, it's just more of a struggle fighting the spring to put the pliers back in. I should be able to finish tomorrow. Did you find the phillips and the large flat head hard to open?
I almost bought a Duchess on ebay for the challenge, but it got a little too spendy. "Surely, someone else will have one," I though to myself. I should've know better than to call myself Shirley.
Day 23
Went for an after dinner walk and found this 4 pack holder in the street. Classic saved the turtles and I threw it in the recycling when I got home. Always leave it better than you found it, team.
DAY 24
As others have already stated, losing or misplacing the classic is very easy, so decided to help stop that with some fancy cordage. The Bijou is hiding inside the leather sheath I made in the first week of the challenge.

DAY 25 Following yesterday's government contractor knife, I'm carrying this one today. You can google the code, or just look up the Manhattan Project.
I wonder. Does the challenge end on January 31, or is it just a 30 day challenge like all the others? I should have done my due diligence and found out before I entered into this. If I had known it was going to be a 31 day challenge, I might not have started.
Maybe I can sweat it out for ONE extra day if I have to. Temps have gone up about 45-50 degrees this week. Those are Fahrenheit temps for your Europeen knife addicts, not Centipede temps like you are used to. It preciped enough yesterday to put two feet of snow on the ground if the temps had stayed low. Just gloomy, gray, and rainy. I took a very poor sort of photo with Bijou. It's hard to take photos of rain. Very easy with an IR camera, since the rain glops glow. Best wishes. G

I wonder if the 108 challenge will ever get off the ground? Five days left and only five people have signed on. It just got cold and stale like that leftover pizza way back in the freezer.
Well, after this last 58mm event, I will go back to my usual 108mm carry anyway. One way or the other. If five more people don't sign up, I will carry a Leatherman too. Put away my shoestring and pink paperclip tether. Bijou will stay next to my compooter for fingernail futzing and mail call duty.
I hope friend Gra enjoyed his morgenmete. Never heard of it before. Looks like a big Twinkie. The name looks archaic. Like 'morning food' or something. Best wishes. G
:)
Thanks IMR. I was struggling for a photo topic. There may be a few more cousins come to visit.
MTSAK - glad you are being careful. Those robots can be very sneaky and seem to like mint flavor.
Hope your wife recovers quickly. My wife had had the crud for the past 7 days, i’m going on 10. We seem tombe recovering more quickly, if we take afternoon naps
Day 26:
I used the "nail file" as a regular file to get some rough spots out of the piece of wood that I use as a pin to help keep the sheep feed box lid shut tightly. I hope Victorinox updates the 58mm file to have the same borderless design as now used on the 84mm ones.

Congratulations on your 100th post, Graham. No party. No parade. Someone will come by later with the bucket of leeches for the ceremony. What?....... no leeches anymore?.... when did that happen? Well it appears we don't do leeches now. Can't have any fun. You are a full member anyway. Best wishes GaryYay the parade would have been nice, but your recognition was enough

Day 28
Lazy Sunday. Have a Pumpkin!
I'd been meaning to ask, but Explorer answered with the definitive answer since this is his show. The challenge ends on January 30 with the last post on that day. Not the 31st. Right?
The other question is whether there might not be another award presentation this time. Like the MiniChamp. I would like to nominate friend Aztec for 'most likely to perform surgery with a SAK' and friend Gra for 'most likely to break a Bijou' or 'best breakfast' or something. Just sayin.
Best wishes. G
PS This venture was fun. I knew it would be when I saw Explorer was the program director. The guys all made great posts and pictures. I enjoyed them a lot. Also the friends cheering from the sidelines. G
:hatsoff:
I just took an outdoor photo. The shiny thing is the moon. It is bright because it is so much closer to the earth here in the mountains. Black dark outside. Phone takes great night pix.

Day 30:
The Classic is a go-to, so I often have one on me. Around the house, it does most of the cutting chores, while in EDC, it covers for the fact few of the multitools I carry have scissors.
Alox variants--really easy to lose or forget you're carrying. I cleaned out my pockets a few days back, and found I was, somehow, carrying BOTH smooth Alox variants I had. Heck, because of this my modern Classic SD Alox was MIA. I actually found three Classics I'd misplaced in the house during this challenge.
White scales suck. The back side (since this is an ad knife) is turning blue from just my sweatpants and jeans.
Neck carry works really well for the Classic. It's almost unnoticeable (compared to most of my purpose-built neck knives), and it solves the problem of having to fish around in your pockets for the tiny knife.
I'll still buy a Signature. While I didn't use the pen once during this challenge, using the old-style removable one is not fun.
