Out of sheer curiosity, I decided to put the replaceable cutters and non-replaceable cutters head-to-head in real-world cutting tasks. Cutting hardened nails is ridiculous, so I used stuff you would probably be cutting in the real world.
Candidates:
#8 60LB Jack Chain.
55LB Mild Steel Wire.
200LB Hard Steel Wire.
18g-2 Stranded copper wire.
and zip ties to make sure the cutters weren't damaged.

Nice test. I would like to see this test with the Leatherman's.

Thank you for doing that. It was really neat to see the first Gerber go thru the test with ease. :tu:

I agree with earlier threads that LMs introduction of replaceable cutters was a way of reducing their cost of warranty claims (plier heads are expensive) and this led to Gerber following the trend to remain competitive when ppl compare features. :twak:
For 99% of tasks, non-replaceable cutters are just fine. Cutting hardened nails, welding rods, drill bits, etc is asking for trouble. Wire cutters are exact exactly that...wire cutters. :salute:

:tu:. People like to punish their tools to make them fail is it seems.

Nice test, glbm, very interesting. When you read posts about the cutters you think the replaceable cutters just fall apart looking at them. Good to know they are doing well when handled properly :tu:
