Now who would of thought i would do another club ::) :rofl: pretty nifty tool with some good points and some not so good points but i like it a lot :tu: anyone else in ;)

I think I'm one of only two people on the site that ever carries a MP700 ... and I can't even remember who the other one is :rofl:

Ex-owner and edc-er here. :tu: If you consider the fact that the MP700 and MP800 came out around the same time as the old old Wave, these were totally great back then.

:tu: there is something i really like about this MT could be those spring loaded pliers or the chunky handles or the fiskars scissors or that saw adapter,i don't know but its a dame cool looking thing :cheers:

ME too! I owned a MP 800 (now in teh hands of teh Club founder), am looking for a MP 700 and own a (defective) Strata - Does that count?! ;)

That's not REALLY a Strata then, it's the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Tool Mk II . ::) How does the MP700 compare to the Strata sizewise?

I'll be interested to see how the two Stratas compare actually. The 700 is slightly smaller than the BG one in all dimensions, but not by a lot

I carry an 800 when I need a quick deploying knife. It's still a nice tool all around with the spring loaded pliers and tool load out.
I had a new unused 700 but traded for a Juice with hard to use drivers. I should have broken out and carried the 700 for awhile. These are some of Gerber's best offerings IMO.

I have a 800 not sure if I am going to warm to it :-\ :-\ just a bit too bulky :think: :think:
I do have a 700 on the way 8) 8) I have been super keen to try a 700 for quite some time so I am really looking forward to having a crack with the little Legend :D

My 700 arrived yesterday , I used it whilst working outside. The handles seen to be quite thick & the scissors struggled with some shade cloth trimming :think: :think:. But I do like it more than my 800 , I will try & get some pics done in then ext few days :tu: :tu:

I used the scissors on the 800 yesterday while wrapping pressies and seemed ok, I like the chunky feel of the 800 but know it's not for everyone plus love the saw exchanger as has mod potential :tu:. Looking forward too comparison pics mat :tu:

I knew deep in my heart that at some point this year I'd get to join this club. I got this with badly nicked blade. Quite a few flattened areas on the cutting edge and a bit of rust. 5 minutes on a silicon carbine honing stone and 30 seconds on a Japanese water soluble stone did well

for a pocket sized multitool, I couldn't ask for a lot. This will replace my Skeletool and my Octane for now...or maybe until the Pocket Powerplier comes in

Seems I am very late in the Legend owner realm, but these tools are pretty neat.
Two slightly different versions of each. The 700 is more obvious with the plier differences(USA version being older) and grips. The pliers are different on the 800s as well. The depth of the Gerber logo is deeper on the older(top right) version.

Not quite reversible.. I had to shave off material from the plier's side for the extender to recess properly.. If there's just one section of the extender, there's no need to touch on the pliers but hey.. Where's the fun in that.. I think I got this beautiful 800 for about $15.. With some broken parts..but mostly usable. So it's a good beater to do mod on. :)

Yeah most importantly the pliers is still in good shape and the locks are in good working order. It's comes with a different kind of carbide cutter though. The type that have a angle grounded on the cutting edge. Not sure if it's the older type.. Dun see it anymore. :cheers:

The 800, you did the bit extension mod on, is an older version, since it has the Gator grip inserts. Later versions had flush rubber grip inserts. The build quality is also a bit better on the early ones. :)

I have 2 types of cutters. The one on the left is grounded much steeper and it cuts much better. The right one is the common one now...

You know. That's a good question. I'll go get some 700s out and photo the cutters.
Edit: I recently made a video showing the replaceable cutters working quite well. But, I should see which version cutters it had.

Glad I took the pics, because the T3 700 has some storage surface rust starting in the pliers(probably from being in a blister pack for 16 years). Went ahead and took care of it with a rust removal cleaning and oil coat.

Am expecting delivery of an MP700 next week, in good shape by the pics.
An early review said the tweezers felt unbalanced in a full-sized MT (probably butchering the paraphrase). I'm going to assume they were being used in the open/locked pos and see if using them in half-open position with the main body enclosed in my palm works. Wasn't aware of the 700 while I had my 800, and tweezers were one reason I also edc'd a Micra at the same time.
Having said the bit about wanting tweezers, I did find the remgrit blade on the 800 I had at the time (let alone the flat screwdriver) indispensable for making a radiator hose splice with pvc in the desert. Twice. On the same day.... And the 700 doesn't have one.

I am relatively new to the forum (as a poster) but have lurked in the shadows for a while. I recently picked up an MP700 and love the tool so much I am in the process of swapping in some parts from an NXT. While in the process, I asked my Dad to clean up the knife tip at his knife shop (barely chipped from being used as a screwdriver). He did a good job on the blade but thought he would polish the tool a bit for me and inadvertently polished the rubber on the locking mechanism down to nothing on one of the locks. I was wondering if anyone here might have a spare "lock" with the rubber intact?

I finished swapping in the tools from the NXT and am really pleased. It took a little grinding for the phillips bit and I had to remove a little metal on the "stop" for the plier head.
I liked the NXT but the splay was just too large for me. I really like the feel and utility of this guy now!

I like that! Yeah, my comment on the 700 & 800 is that the toolset felt underwhelming.
Here’s my pair. They’re just stuck inside what was supposed the be overnight bags with some clothes. The kids were actually using the blue one (before the pandemic hit) as a “Lego removal tool”. I do love the saw holder. I got lucky and got a good saw blade on it that keeps it in rotation in garden duty.

Thanks! I had to remove material from the phillips only, none anywhere else. I would guess Vjdotson's tool selection and/or placement forced the work on his pliers stop. Factory/original tool widths at pivot were easy to understand and combine or move around, no modification needed or wanted. No change in total number of shims/washers, I believe, it's been a while. A direct swap, I'd say. The tool selection ultimately dictated where they had to go in the handles. Access was affected. :cheers:

Correct! My tool selection is evolving, those were the available options when I put it back together. Today I pickled up some used multi-tools (a Suspension, a stainless "Westward" tool made by Grainger (discontinued), and a Victorinox Swiss Tool). I plan to retool the MP700 and my old Mr. Pinchy tonight with some of the "new" items in these. Can't decide what to do with the Victorinox tool though. I like other Victorinox products and while this tool is well made, I just don't think I like it that much. Stay tuned for more pics!

Correct! My tool selection is evolving, those were the available options when I put it back together. Today I pickled up some used multi-tools (a Suspension, a stainless "Westward" tool made by Grainger (discontinued), and a Victorinox Swiss Tool). I plan to retool the MP700 and my old Mr. Pinchy tonight with some of the "new" items in these. Can't decide what to do with the Victorinox tool though. I like other Victorinox products and while this tool is well made, I just don't think I like it that much. Stay tuned for more pics!
