Got an old beat up user from my old man. It says "swiss made". The back had been beaten with a hammer and was mashed down. Lots of scaring. Very very dull. Covered in rust.
Its not perfect. But it should cut wood.
Does anyone know anything about the steel? Or manufacturer?
-
If it's made in Sweden it should be a good one :tu:
Is there a stamp on the side or on the bottom of the poll?
Added
I can't see in the pictures but there might be a crown thing or the letters HB above the made in Sweden?

No other markings that I could find unfortunately.
...did some google research, and read a blog. Knowing the age is roughly from the 70's or early 80's. Its probably a wetterlings for the canadian market, or maybe a hults bruks. Im going to do another few coats of oil and then put it to use.
Oddly, i enjoyed this restore. I might have to do another.😀

Im going to work on a sheath next. After all that work, it should have a sheath to protect the edge. Ill post after the sheath is made.

I've done a few axes myself now, nowhere near as many as Tony, but can be a nice little project. Good job on yours. Sheaths would be a good idea :tu:

Wow, this could be the great great grandfather of Moraknivs :)

Looks like it will be a nice user :like: Great job getting it back into working condition :tu: It is always a great feeling to get a tool back into shape to be useable again :salute: :like:

Had some time this evening to make a sheath. I used some leather scraps to make one up. Veg tanned leather. Not perfect, but it will certainlg work to protect the axe head. I was thinking of using a dark brown dye, but I think I like the look as is. I might just let it age as is.
Fun little project.

Good job :tu:
Is there a welt? Looks pretty stout and should do what it needs to do!
-
Yes there is a welt, its about 1/2 inch wide, maybe a little less. The leather is 1/4 thick. I normaly use a punch for the stitching, but in this case i used a drill press. Then stitched. It should last a long while.

Good job, looks nice
