I'm carrying a V12 Led Lenser.

Dude... :pok: Which of those is the illuminating one? :D
Mag minilite with led drop-in upgrade. I have this on my side everyday, day and night, and you'd be suprised how often it comes in handy during daylight hours. Looking for things under the couch, in my car, or at work. My co-workers laughed at me for carrying one during the day, until they needed it when looking for something, like an escaped animal, in which case they thought it very handy.
That's a nice one, Prime. I'll try to look for one like that at the military surplus store. It's a really cool light with some good history. It's not bright at all but cool.
My Wife surprised me with a early Fathers day present. A Vietnam era issued Army flashlight. It's in great condition. Even as the red filters and extra bulb. To big for pocket carry so it stayed in the car today. But at least it say some active service today.

Excellent stuff mate. Its good to see you actually put it to use as well; most would have kept it as a shelf queen.I would never leave this old warrior on the shelf. It's needs to see sometime in the field.
Great torch Thumbs up!
Well tonight at work i will have my Gerber Infinity Ultra in my pocket and my Fenix L2D in my gear bag. Oh,and i will have my medical penlight for checking pupils and stuff.

I have a Fenix E01 on my keys now and I have to say I'm amazed how good it is. I'd no sooner received it and we had a powercut that evening! So I had to try it out of course! It's a great little light :D

I really want to see that light system in person John, it looks excellent. :tu:
Plus you can do cracking Dalek impressions with it. (http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs41/f/2009/039/5/f/Dalek_Emoticon_by_Rox_silver_fox.gif)
An ITP A3 EOS sat in my pocket, as it always does :)
Went back to an oldie, fenix p3d-ce (r2). It developed excessive thread play, since I can't warranty it, it was downgraded to car light duty. Today I finally fixed it so it's back in pocket.I said it before and I'll say it again jzmtl. That light looks great. You did a awesome job on it.

It's always with me at work, but it's to big for pocket carry :)Infinity Ultra again :)
you need to carry your death ray more :P
For the last few days I have been carrying a QMini 123 by 4Sevens. Terry sent it over for me to test as it has a warm tinted LED.I'd love a second Arc-P, but I've never seen a new one for sale this side of the pond :(
I have twinned it with my Arc-P.

I really liked the look of them as well. Can I ask what it cost including P&P?
Mostly been carrying this Life Gear light while at work. Nice, simple and sturdy with the rubber sleeve being a bonus as I can comfortably grip it between my teeth.

There's a useful budget light round up on CPF somewhere.

A dangler clip works great on a Q-MiNi. I've been carrying my AA that way for months now.
It'll do till you save up for a Preon :D
It doesn't look half bad though mate :tu:
Where did you get that Wild Cat light? 40 lumens is not shabby at all. It does look like a 3 or 4 cell as long as it is.
OK so I was trying a new, cheap 2xAAA light today at work. ....

Having an edc torch is just as important as an edc blade, plus the ability to make fire no matter where you are.

I point blank refuse to go out and spend loads on a primary CR123 when the rechargeables are coming, but it could be weeks ::)

I keep telling myself that, but every time I get that much closer to the 'checkout' button
Everyone needs a surefire :pok:I'm actually considering selling most of my lights and getting a Ra :-\
Nice light....Not sure I agree :)
Not a Surefire though :pok: :D
Lights are more than stats. A lot more.I quite agree :)
Not sure I agree Smiley
SF seem pretty stone age in terms of runtimes and options Undecided
So it's dead powerful, which is obviously very cool :)
But there seem's a real trend by manufactures to start offering practical low lumen settings, with very commendable runtimes, SF don't seem to be going down that route, at least not yet.

I think you would actually struggle to find any brand of light that had anywhere near the amount of options Surefire has with both their own range and the aftermarket range of accessories. The 6P for example has to be the most user customisable light there is.I'm pretty zonked at the moment, but I'll start a thread tomorrow (or one of you can :pok: :pok:) about what single light you'd get if you could only have one :)
But if they don't suit you the RA is a nice light too. I just know (when funds allow) my next biggie light purchase will be a Surefire - no question. :gimme:
But are they low enough to read for say 30 mins without causing a headache?
I know my H50, Mini Quark, Infinity and EX10 will let me, whereas my 9 lumen LD10 hurt's my eyes (there very light sensitive) within a few minutes :-\

While I love my two RA lights. Take it from me who has had to send one in for warranty repairs twice that might not be the best idea.
Really?
I'd heard that they were pretty much bombproof Undecided
To be fair, Surefire generally are "tactical" lights. Bedside reading is not the general angle they are going for here. :D
QuoteReally?People seem to forget. There were some problems when the light first came out. That was one of the problems with mine the first time.
I'd heard that they were pretty much bombproof Undecided
Zebralight SC30..... now that has a very low low ;)I've been toying with getting one of those as I've been really impressed with there H50 :)
To be fair, Surefire generally are "tactical" lights. Bedside reading is not the general angle they are going for here. :D
So, it wouldn't be fair to compare a Ra to a Surefire? Are Ra lights not tactical? Ra's will output lower lumens than all of the lights Mike mentioned (H50, Infinity, etc.)
My HDS can be adjusted much lower than 1 lumen, and I consider it a tactical light.
I think the point Mike is trying to make is that he wants a light that offers low output so he can read. If that's the case, then the Ra will be a much better choice for him over a Surefire with a ~10 lumen low.

Just different lights for different applications.

Is it plastic or glass window on yours? The website says plastic, but 6p has always had glass so I'm confused.

Thanks Terry. Right you are about the pocket clip though. It is horrid. However is the best clip I have ever used for clipping a light to your hat for a headlamp which is pretty much what I carry my RA for.

It's an early US-made 120P (HAIII). It is fitted w/an HDS 2xCR123 body running a 15670 Li-Ion battery.

After spending the last few weeks carrying my iTP A2 in Stainless (a light I'm extremely happy with) I thought I'd try my new Gerber Infinity for a little while. For some reason I had it in my head that the Infinity would be a bigger light than it is, so finding out that it's very nearly as small as my iTP A2 was a pleasant surprise. :)Wouldn't mind one of your fine reviews about it mate :tu:

Humm, perhaps. problem is that I know so very little about lights compared to MTs and SAKs. I'll maybe string some thought together after carrying it for a while.
I've been looking at the 1xAA Zebralighs and dearly want one. Perhaps next time I've got a bit of spare cash. ::)
Anyway I've been carrying my Stainless iTP A2 on my keys for weeks now along with SA2 Eluma in my bag. I've not yet felt under lit. :D
I go by B0wz3r over at CPF btw.
Interesting that you put a film on your ZL, I'd understood that they were pretty floody already so I'm guessing you must have been trying to go for a total flood. :)
Oh and welcome to the forum, as Terry says we're more than happy to have some torch talk here as well.

The L1 occupies a very soft spot in my heart , I've owned several , the take a pounding , and I love the switching .
LD01 on the Keys, PD20 in the pocket. Photon microlight in the inside pocket of pretty much every coat I own. If I know I'm going to use it my Olight M20 or TK11.
Is that a stainless bezel? I just looked that light up, nice price, may have to get one if it can fit a 17mm driver. Not sure about the lack of knurling. Do you find is slippery?
Today I´ve carried this (at my right ear, looking into my computer):Interesting.... sounds like a job for a ZebraLight, but that one you have is pretty freaky... I'll have to look into that.

I've been carrying my ITP A1 for about 6 months now and I'm not sure if it needs a new seal or some lubricant but the sequences of 3 brightness levels are hard to control on it. It takes some tinkering to get the desired brightness. I wonder if pocket lint has played a role ???
I'm willing to pop a new cell in and see. I've heard of that before I think, IIRC the person put it down to an old cell. Any chance yours is just run a bit flat?
I really like the 2 x AAA format for lights. Today I've been carrying my streamlight/fenix frankenlight, which I've been doing ever since the rubber boot fell off my Eagletac PN20a2.
Right now I'm carrying my Surefire LX2.
Today it was my Arc-P. Cracking light that one.Yay :D

Given the style of LED it has, and the fact it's well recessed, it's not really necessary I suppose. But I do get where you are coming from.

Going to work in the morning with my new Jetbeam IIIM XML.That looks like a bloody impressive light :)

I love my E05, I added a clip to it and can clip it to the brim of my hat to use a head lamp when needed or can clip it to my watch band for additional hands free action.
Got an ARC-P in my t-shirt pocket at the moment.Still a cracking light, even after all these years :tu:
for the last couple of weeks I've just had a cheapo DX light in my pocket. Had to break out the big guns today though and raid the EDC bag for the Lumapower D Mini VX with the extender tube for the 18650 battery. Daylight, but we were trying to survey the collector mounting on a 10 tonne overhead travelling crane from ground level about 40 ft up in an old factory. The electrician I was with shone his 1W led and noticed virtually differecne, so I fired up the Mini VX and BAM - clear as anything. The sparky's jaw dropped and he said "Where the SMURF did you get THAT??"

Fenix E01 as usual. I'm thinking of getting a E05. How much larger is it than the E01?

The E05 is just a hair thicker, but it's thinner than the E01.

Wait that makes no sense. Do you mean the E05 is thicker but shorter than the E01.
Barely thicker, IIRC; but yes, the E05 is shorter.

Perfect thank you. Also do you know the light output of both by chance?

Today, I thought I'd try my 4500K Mac's Tri-EDC... You know there's nothing like a $200 EDC flashlight to make you check your pockets every 10 minutes!
Mine's been carried a lot: it's too well made and too bright to be a shelf queen.
see?

I've been making good use of my Gerber Infinity lately, good sized pocket light and bright enough for close-up work.

I carry my Fenix LD01 SS today. I was browsing a croatian electronics and gear store yesterday and decided to check for how much it runs in our local stores. $87 US :ahhh I almost fell of my chair. Bought mine used for $16. I knew I got a great deal but that good. Thanks Francis. :D

Thanks, Gareth! :salute: It's all I didn't want to hear. It sounds perfect for me :ahhh
Now only do I want an AA or CR123 version of it. I prefer rechargeable batteries and use or RCR123s isn't recommended in the T20 but lots of people still use them without problems.
On a totally unrelated matter, all this Trunite talk got me playing with my Ti. And it has no spring, and has a rubber ring around the + pole. And I had some QTC on my desk, ... ;)

Sadly I don't think it will work. :( The two stage switch is actually a kind of spring in itself; screw the head down and a piece of metal comes in contact with the + of the cell, keep twisting and that piece of metal bends slightly and makes a second contact on the underside of the metal piece. Not sure I am explaining that very well. I might well also be totally wrong and the QTC will work brilliantly. :D Let us know.

Took my daughter for a walk yesterday evening, and took one of my HCRI Quarks along, used a 123 body with it for the first time. (I'm an AA and 18650 guy... not really into CR123's). I really liked how well the finger-ring thing that comes with the small Quarks worked with the 123 body; much more secure fit than with the AA body. The smaller size was also nice too. Not that I'm planning on going with more 123 based lights, but the little Q123 configuration was a nice size, and did everything I needed.

Heh. I'm a CR123 guy. Really like the cell. But, I've been carrying a MiniMag Pro+ for the last several weeks and I've been very impressed by this 2XAA light. :)

Still, I can't ever see myself buying any light that exclusively uses 2 or more 123 cells. I'd rather have 1x18650, and get aprox. 50% more run time than 2x123 primaries, or 75% more than RCR 16340's. 18650's just leave 123's in the dust.

Found my Fenix LD05 recently, so I've been carrying that
Nate, I consider the 123 format "legacy" for two main reasons.Even though I've argued that the 123 format is pretty much 'legacy' at this point, I won't argue with the compactness advantage it has.Took my daughter for a walk yesterday evening, and took one of my HCRI Quarks along, used a 123 body with it for the first time. Why would CR123 be legacy? Denser energy seems like it would be more popular not less. Or are you saying rechargeables are replacing primary cells...
Fauxtons are great - got them hanging all over the place, especially inside all my bags :)
Last time I ordered a load from DX, they worked out around 30p each (50c), which is cheaper than trying to get replacement batteries around here!

I really like it Tony. The modes are well spaced and the mode memory function suits me very well as I've become very frustrated constantly having to cycle through low modes that I don't use very often. The only thing I would have preferred is if it came with it's own pocket clip, though I managed to scrounge one to fit from another light.
I'm really not sure that's relevant. :think:ThruNite T10 today. :)

I keep thinking I need a big brother for this one but I really don’t need another light
i have a maglite solitaire clipped in my pocket today (not an LED version). i found it in my dads junk pile, figured he wouldnt miss it if i took it out :twak:. maybe im spoiled by modern LED flashlights, but wassup with this incandescent bulb?! i dont remember them being THIS dim .
does anyone have some interesting ways of re purposing this thing? was looking into the LED conversion kits but they cost almost as much as a streamlite stylus.

That’s the problem, I don’t think they are worth doing unless they have sentimental value  (I also have one I want to upgrade)

Can't seem to find an Allen key which fits - tried 1.5 and 2mm.

LOL you think they would provide one...I used a small flat head screwdriver to take the clip off my NiteCore ;)
Having just been looking at the Eagletac's myself recently I'm sure I read that they are a very unusual size Hex screw, 1.55mm or some such. I'm also reasonably certain I read that they'd send you one if you ask.
One never needs ANOTHER LIGHT, but sadly one is mostly helpless in these matters! :D

Got my Eagletac DC25C Ti Clicky, and threw a little something I knocked up on it. Don't like the clip much (or any pocket clips for CR123 sized lights), so I don't trust it without some sort of lanyard.

ZL SC52 here today. I like the battery indicator function. (Click four times quickly, 1 to 4 flashes indicate battery state.)
I did convince myself to put my Thrunite Ti in my pocket yesterday.....then I didn't have any need for a torch.:woohoo: I actually had a few reasons to use my Ti today. And every single time I did, my thumb was looking for the tail switch.

Really powerful on RCR123. Feel free to bump that thread if you want more info.
The P10a still packs a punch, and is a good simple 2 mode light.Very true mate. They're good throwers too, perfect for looking down lift shafts I've found. :D
Tank007 (seriously, who came up with that name?) E09. It's been my everyday flashlight for close to two years now and it's still perfect.
still mostly carrying my Eagletac D25A Clicky. I don't know what it'll take to knock this one off it's top perch, but it'll have to be something really special. 8)

Who would have thought it? I actually carried something other than my D25A Clicky!! Decided to go with my Thrunite T10. Actually a very good little 1xAA light that I would be carrying an awful lot more often if it wasn't for my Eagletac.

Been jamming this guy exclusively since I got it.
I do take out the D25AM when I am trail running, but no others have been seeing pocket time lately.

So Al persuaded Gareth out of Zebralights and Gareth persuaded Al into Eagletacs. :D I've been eyeing the D25A Clicky myself. ;) That and the S10 are the only flashlights that currently spike my interest. But then I remember that I have 20+ flashlights already and I really, REALLY don't need another flashlight. I was missing a good headlamp but that will be mended on monday. Tracking says it's in Croatia, but we don't get mail here on the weekends.
I carried my iTP A3 SS for the last few weeks but am thinking it's about time I added a larger flashlight to my pocket this evening. Probably the 47s Quark with the AA tube. (I should really get me some Li-ion batteries for it)
Al, did you have time to play with that nice copper AAA? :D

I didn't talk Gareth out of the Zebralight .... I tried to trade it with him, BUT I made the fatal error of letting him have a go with it first :P Admittedly he did swear at it less than I normally do, but the look of confusion and incredulity on his face rivalled the look of intensity and determination on Cupboards face when he tried to operate a Strata's locks one handed
So which headlamp did you go for Nik? Silva Ninox? :pok: :D :D
Olight EOS is on my "probably get" list too, and I've also been eyeing up 2xAA alternatives as the Quark has started being a little tempremental (prob needs a clean up of the threads etc - but buying something new seems to be a reasonable reaction to the problem too :P)
The Cu AAA Maratac is nice. Plenty of patina on it, decent clip, and the levels are good, although I wish the low was a teeny bit higher
I liked the specs of the Ninox up until I read "The three AAA battery power source ...". I'm trying to get away from that. Regretfully most headlamp use that battery combo. ::) I was searching for a 1xRCR or 1xAA. My main choice was the Spark SG5 I linked Gareth to in his head torch thread but it was over the no VAT import limit and I paid a few customs fees this year. :( I was searching various forums for something in that category and found a guy from Slovenia, one border apart :D, selling a Zebralight H51w at a decent price. No customs fees, no long waiting for a delivery from Asia or the US. That tipped the scale in favor of the Zebralight. I didn't find the UI as bad as you did and after the initial ::) feeling learned to get along with it. I still think it would be better if they reversed the order so the short press would be for low and long press for high. The thing that annoys me is turning it off. I think you know what I mean. ;)I'm a flashlight luddite, so I'm about 400 yards behind you in terms of knowledge, but I'll try to keep up :P
A few minutes with some rubbing alcohol on the threads and relubing it should do the trick. Or maybe the switch needs some tightening. There's a video on Going gear youtube page about that. It's too good of a flashlight to get replaced. :D I got a scare with mine about a month ago. I dropped it head first onto concrete from about 2 meters and when I picked it up it wouldn't turn on. I thought I killed it. But when I put the AA tube on it it started working again. Now it's working with all three tubes no problem.
The only reason I haven't gotten a Olight i3 EOS is cause it doesn't come in SS. :D I love the iTP versions of it. I've had/have 3 out of 4 versions (didn't get the original 1 mode version) before Olight started making them. The last SS version I liked the best but they aren't available anymore and I'd love a backup. :D So, please Olight, make a SS version. :pok: I'm not a big fan of aggressive knurling the Maratac versions of it have but the copper one looks sexy >:) But yes, a 3 lumen low would be better with maybe a lower high for longer runtimes.
EDIT: spelling
I need to pick up some silicone lube to try and tweak the Quark,That made me

I had the older X1 for a while and I well remember the fiddly 'momentary' function. :-\ I basically never used it for just the reason you said; it had to be just perfectly set for it it work. However the build quality of inova is excellent. :tu:

I think the LED maglites are OK actually, not top flight torches perhaps, but they do make the dark places brighter.
It's a rare occasion these days that I don't carry my neutral white Q-MiNi AA powered by AW 14500. On rare occasions I will carry an HDS EDC, but the Q-MiNi is my go-to light. It is so easy to carry, durable and has a great range of outputs to fit most of my needs.Nice set up. I like that little light.

Trustfire Z2 being used as a head torch. The head band is home grown, but does an excellent job of keeping things in place.

ThruNite TN12. Small enough that it sits comfortably in the side pocket of my work trousers, it's a very compact way of getting a lot of light in a room. Just yesterday I needed to kill all the lights in a (windowless) room to work on the suspended ceiling. Not a problem though, just put this on high, stood it on it's tail and the room was more than bright enough to work in. 8)

Last, but by no means least, is my Eagletac D25A clicky with neutral emitter. This is the light that has pretty much gone everywhere with me for the last 12 months. Lives on my house keys most of the time, only being removed to be put in the pocket of my work trousers for 8 hours a day. Compact, lovely colour beam, bright (or not), clicky, 1xAA...the list goes on as to why I love this light. :dd:

I love it. My wallet says I shouldn't but I do Anyway.
No, it's natural HA.
The shot was underexposed because I had the lights turned on, and the Prometheus was reflecting the overhead lights. However, I will say that the most recent (especially the US-produced) Zebralights seem to have more of a darker-gray finish now, rather than the more "greenish" finish they used to have.
Potted electronics are much more liquid and shock resistant than unpotted circuitry. They are basically encapsulated in epoxy.
It still would be an issue if a battery leaked, as the chemicals would contact the underside of the driver board where the (+) contact is. My advice is to never leave alkaline batteries unattended inside a flashlight.
I have the same LM Monarch 300 in my rebar sheath that i have always had for the past five years. I do have my itp sa2 eluma in my toolbox.

That's an excellent light that never quite seemed to get the following I think it deserved. I love mine. :)
Wow, this thread got dropped a while ago :oHey Gareth, what's your thoughts on the 2xAAA led mini mag? JR
Time to bring it back to life I think. Today, and for a good long time now, I've been carrying my Eagletac D25A Clicky on my keys. Backed up with my 2xAAA LED Mini-Maglite in my organiser.
I had one and it accidentally got thrown away :( It was an awesome light though. Well worth the money :2tu:Wow, this thread got dropped a while ago :oHey Gareth, what's your thoughts on the 2xAAA led mini mag? JR

I got the regular AA, but I changed a few things by upgrading a led and putting a defensive bezel on it and love it, but it's just for around the house, now I have a regular 2xAAA and think it's just so freaking cute, size wise it's good for a carry, very light weight, but brightness sucks! It's ok if totally pitch black and your eyes are set to the dark, but other then that it's worthless.I had one and it accidentally got thrown away :( It was an awesome light though. dug up a shot the 2xAA LED beside the 2xAAA LED.The two AA led or norm are two big for what I'm looking for, but the 2AAA is nice but just too dull, but I figured an led 2AAA might be just right.. JR

I'm still using my trusty old Leatherman Monarch 300. I can't find a cost effective light that I like better. If anyone has any suggestions I'm open to trying them. I rely on this light so much that if I ever lost it I would truly be lost. I would love a back up.

Christmas Ltd Ed Ti
The first time you did this to me :twak: I got the old style twistie T10 and T20, and both came with a free Ti. I must admit I was very happy with them too. Very good value. The T20 now lives in the glovebox of the car, the T10 stays clipped to my black pioneer and Style PS as a fixed "trio", and the Ti gets occasional carry with a celidor SAK and red Dime.
This time they have tail clickies, pocket clips and the lantern attachments ... I had to go for it :-[

Thing is that the new T10 is similar enough to my much loved Eagletac D25A Clicky that I cannot justify it to myself.
I did get the new Ti3 not so long ago, that's a sweet little light.
After carrying my Thrunite T10 for a good while I've decided togo back to it's even smaller brother; the Ti3.
I have been carrying a tank007 e09 nearly always for a few hears now.
Still carrying the Mini-Mag LED Pro.

Scratch that. After Mercury talking about not being able to find a Monarch 300 I thought to myself "I actually really used to like that light", and then I thought "actually, I guess I still like that light". So guess what I'm carrying now.
Gotcha :tu: Still might be a bit too "loud" for me though :D  I like the "idea" of a maglight though, and if there was a way to calm it down a bit when I need to without sticking my thumb over the end, I could be quite interested ;)
I've got way too comfortable with the ability to choose different levels. :)

Missed the R part. When I know the flashlight by the looks alone, I don't read as carefully as I probably should.

I do vary it a little bit, but keep coming back to the same things
Little Hugsby XP-1. Tiny, cheap, and bright.

Today, I rode my bike and the light failed. Little S10R to the rescue:

I was carrying my Streamlight microstream for a while but last night I switched back to my Leatherman Monarch 300 as my EDC light. I have a fondness for this old torch that I can't explain.
For work EDC I always have my ITP SA2 Eluma in my toolbag or pocket, and I usually use a coast headlamp for work where I need two hands.

I always knew you were a man of good taste. :D My SA2 was my "go to" work light for a long time as well. Sad that the iTP Eluma series of lights never got moved over to the Olight line, they were excellent lights IMO.
I have to admit that I've been very boring lately and have stuck with my Thrunite Tube since I got it.
Nice pic buddy. :tu: Is it a Fenix LD20?

Today, McGizmo Mule
Yesterday, Ti Muyshondt Aeon MkII
Why don't you tell us something about your lights.
Most of us,including myself, don't know much about 3-$400.00 customs.
Thanks. Why don't you tell us something about your lights.Sure. The McGizmo is made by Don McLeish in Hawaii. Don has been making LED lights for over 20 years and has gotten pretty good at balancing optimal output and runtime. It is a full titanium CR123/16340 light with a Nichia 219V (NVSL 119 H1 - 1.3mm x 1.3mm die with max drive of 1500mA). It has a 3 stage driver low = 7 lumen, medium - 28 lumen, high - 125 lumen. The term "mule" means it has no reflector, which seems sill because the McGizmo Haiku reflector is regarded as the best on the market. I prefer the mule style because it has no hotspot, this light emits just a solid wall of 94 CRI light at 4600K. As expected, it is regulated, has an AR sapphire lens, and takes any and all battery chemistries.
Most of us,including myself, don't know much about 3-$400.00 customs.
The second light is an all titanium Muyshondt Aeon Mark II (MkII) made by Enrique Muyshondt in Texas. The Aoen is a very small light, only 55mm long. This particular version is kind of rare, not completely sure how many he made, but there aren't many Ti versions out there. The Ti version has a 3 stage progressive twisty - twist on for low, twist more for medium, twist a little more for high… I prefer this type of mode switching over the usual twist on, twist off, twist back on… It has an AR sapphire lens, light orange peel parabolic reflector (which gives it impressive throw), 93 CRI Nichia 219 LED that tops out at 120 lumen, gold plated circuit contacts, and runs on a CR2 battery.
You can pick up a McGizmo from Don's sub on CPF, and unfortunately, the Ti Aeon has been discontinued.
Thanks.
I'm familiar with Don McLeish. I became a member of Candlepowerforums in 2004.I didn't stick around long and pursued other hobbies. When I returned in 2014 it wouldn't accept my old user name,so I re-registered.
Those are some interesting lights and congrats.I certainly couldn't help but notice there was no reflector on the Mule.I imagine that the Mule must emit light in a 160 to 180 degree radius.
I understand that Anti-reflective coatings allow more light to be projected from the emitter since it prevents reflection from inside the lens.I'm also familiar with the sapphire lens since my Rolex Submariner uses a sapphire crystal.
Although interesting and they certainly illustrate the capabilities of flashlight technology,I'm afraid they're a little beyond my desire at the moment.I'm still stuck in the Surefire time warp.LOL Although that may change in the future.
Thanks again.

The only light I had on-person (because of the dress code) was the SC62w, while the rest were carried in a bag. The work area is completely lit by awful fluorescent lighting. I used these (some, ceiling-bounced), instead. I think fluorescent lighting is the most depressing, ugliest lighting ever invented, and I try to avoid using it, whenever possible lol.
Took the EagleTac P10A and the NiteCore SRT3 running AA with me hunting this morning. Set up about 45minutes before sunrise but I still didn't see any deer.

I love the XTAR chargers that I have (2-VP2; 2 VC4, and 2 VC2 Plus), for different reasons. They have different feature sets/strengths, which are very handy.
I tend to go with Panasonic-based batteries (sometimes, protected; sometimes not, depending on which light I'm running).
XTAR actually have a sale through the 24th of this month, on many of their chargers, and they include free shipping (to the lower 48, I think) - 25% off!
They also sell a 2600 mAh 18650 protected battery for 7 bucks (I think it's a Sanyo core, but it's reputable, and have received good reviews), which works well in many of my lights - and since they're just five minutes away from me, it's extremely convenient.
http://xtardirect.com/collections/batteries/products/18650-2600mah-icr18650-26f-battery-protected
For high-drain lights, I go with higher amperage (usually high drain) batteries. I've been buying LG 3200 mAh protected batteries, through Mountain Electronics, which work great (and Mountain Electronics are a dependable battery seller):

So for someone just getting started with 16340s for my Sunwayman 11R, Eneloops for around the house and 18650 for the light I intend to buy. VC 4 or VC 2 plus?
If the McGizmo is something you are interested in, there is a guy in Mobile, Alabama named Gene Malkoff who makes an aluminum version of the Haiku. The Malkoff Devices MDC uses most of same parts as Don's lights, but since the body is aluminum, it only cost $99. Like Don, Gene is very selective in the LEDs he uses and each light accurately represents the advertised specs.
Definitely a stylish combo Joe. 8)

Has anyone yet bought one of these and said they don't like it? I don't think so. :tu:
Dave needs a 12 step program for flashlights.
My refurbished 91mm Golfer Plus has been in the pocket for the last week, hiking in Oregon, building fences, and opening beers and wine! Though my daughter found the Waiter that lives in the bottom of my backpack and appropriated :gimme: it for her backpack...

Yep Harley, I was braindead when I posted this in the wrong forum/thread...

Anyone remember the Nuwai Quantum III? No? It was a big hit over ten years ago. With super numbers like a output of a massive 75 Lumen! (lets say half that and be kind) Runtime of nearly 3 hours! (more like 1) Super compact! (it's not really). Still, while I kindly mock I'm rather attached to mine as it was one of my first attempts to get away from the clutches of Maglite. ;)
Borrowed pic.

Remember it? I owned two, one was the green one, with a mod job by Milkyspit from CPF. Compared to the crap-ass 5mm LEDs that were common then, it really *was* impressive at the time.
Even better, they made a 2xCR123A version, the TM-301X-3 (http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/nuwai_tm301x3.htm), that was easily twice as bright as the QIII. Two modes, too. A real hot rod in it's day.
I threw them all out a few months ago while doing some weeding in my inventory. Unlike knives or multitools, old LED lights don't age well. :-\

I just found my old Q-III as well (hence the post) and rather than throwing it in the bin, I threw a 16340 in it and put it in my coat pocket. I can't be sure, but I rather suspect 16340 cells hadn't been invented the last time I carried the Q-III. :D
Seems to get warm quite fast, but no obvious ill effects.
The 2xAAA Maglite was my first ever quality torch. I've since bought the modern LED version and have to say I like it.
Very nice buddy. :tu:
I've stuck to my Eagletac D25A for a while now.

Led Lenser F1R.
Its pretty much the only light I carry with me.
Its not perfect, but REALLY good. A bit on a heavy in its weight. Also no focus at all.
Good conversation piece, as people are always amazed by its brightness. I'm not much of a flashlight guy so I don't see myself changing in a long time. My 3rd Led Lenser this one and like it a lot.

The Microstream has become one of these classics that, despite not being the cutting edge of torch technology, still does the job very well. :tu:

You're right, it'll take both 16340 and 18350. I just have a couple of 16340 kicking around so I wasn't going to bother shelling out for some more cells when I've got some that work. You'll be getting better run times though. :)
ooh, got a link for the 18650 tube?

Well I'm not a light nut so I can't be too technical but I do like it very much. I find the mode spacing to very useful. High is very bright and the lowest is quite dim (good thing). The UI makes sense and works well for me. I love the fact that it has a battery level indicator. It runs off of a AA. I've always been partial to AA and AAA lights. It's relatively easy on the pocket. It will tail stand. And it looks pretty cool too :D. It's a winner in my book.

It might be hard to believe, given how much you carry yours, but I think yours is in better looking condition than mine. I normally carry my AAA lights on my keys so unless the anodising is pretty tough they look like hell quite quickly.
As far as keys go, they are the most destructive EDC item I think. They destroy things quickly. I don't really make a habit of putting much on my keyring anymore.(https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7292/27162545844_bf689fb1df_k.jpg)

This. I pretty much always carry my keys in another pocket by themselves. They just tore up too many SAK scales. I imagine they could do the same to a flashlight lens, if given a chance.
very nice setup

Yep.
I hang my keys from a pocket clip.
It's a little to big for EDC and set up as a dedicated light to use with a pistol for home defense.
But it has the best tint of any light I have ever owned and the "bulletproofness" of Malkoff/Surefire is very reassuring.
Nice sheath as well Terry. :tu: Mind if I ask what the slip of paper in the front is?

Emergency cash. I have to use the pliers on the CT34 to get it out of there, so it's pretty secure.

Love to see a brother willing to go hard into the paint. Strong carry there.

Bark River small fixed also? Sexy.

Thank you for your kind replies. I like AA and AAA lights simply for the ease of finding new batteries if need be.
I have 2 SwissChamps. This one is an older version. I only recently really began giving it some pocket time. To my surprise it's really not too bad in the pocket. And with so many tools it's really growing on me.
The Bark River is a Pro Scalpel II. It came with a nice leather belt sheath that is slim enough to slip into a pocket or sometimes I will carry it in my KSF Adirondack pocket sheath.

I do like the small twisty AA format, though the idea seems to be less popular these days. I gave my Stainless iTP A2 (a close relative of your Q-MiNi) to my Dad years ago and still miss it a little. I'm still enjoying my original Thurnite T10 at the moment and I've got a Jetbeam Jet-1 MK on the way. Though I have to say I'm not sure that it looks as compact as some others.

I go back and forth between tactical clickies and twisties, depending on the situation. But, this one is just sooo easy to clip to a pocket and forget about. The form factor is just about as small as you can get with AA. I've come to the point where I just won't put up with anything but neutral white tints also. 4Sevens doesn't do many with NW emitters, so I will be majorly bummed if I lose any of them.

It's the strangest thing! I don't have much attachment to tools in the big scheme of things, I carry them for a while and get new ones. But this torch and I get along so well that I can't replace it. In fact, I am dying to find another one in case it goes kaput. I bought a streamlight microstream to replace it but it just rides in my bag as a backup. It's funny, I originally had a microstream and it died, so the Monarch was IT'S replacement.
The Rebar on my belt is coming along the same path. It's been my go to tool for 3 years now. I'm turning into my Dad! He carries the same Juice I bought him 11 years ago, and only occasionally swaps it out for one of the other 10 tools I've gotten him since.

I'm getting the same way mate. Since stopping work as building maintenance and taking up the reins as full time dad again I've all but stopped carrying a pliers MT on myself and have gone back to my SAKs, and only have a couple I actually pick up at all regularly.

Damn Terry, that's a crying shame. I'd have a look at the Jetbeam Jet-1 MK. I've only had mine a couple of days but initial impressions are good. Definitely feels well made and I like the light levels and other features. Only thing it's lacking is a NW LED, though the colour on mine is nice and clear with no obvious blue/green/purple tints that I can see.

Thanks for the suggestions Gareth. It's going to be difficult to find a replacement, as the operation and levels were just right for me and I'm quite spoiled by NW emitters.
The first thing I'm going to do is send my MiNi back to 4Sevens for (10 year!) warranty replacement. I'm sure I will receive a cool white one back, but that's better than nothing at this point.

Are you sure you didn't fry it? Maybe it accidentally got turned on in your pocket or such and was in high mode for too long on a Li-ion. Not sure it the warranty would cover the use of Li-ion in the Mini. If I remember correctly they are direct driven then and pump out something like 350lm? which is way more than the factory specs.
Oh, and just to prove the lie to the last statement I'm away from home for a couple of days and so have opted to bring this lot with me. Specific to this thread is my new Jetbeam Jet-1 MK. I have to say my initial impressions are that this light and I are going to have a long and happy friendship. :dd:

have you tried it with a 14500 lion? its crazy bright, really like this little guy
I never did get to try the Nitecore piston system. How does it feel compared to a conventional switch?
I'm liking that little Jet. That one and the 4Sevens MA seems to be very similar, but fairly unique in the market. I'm not a huge fan of AAA cells because it's hard to justify carrying them when you can have nearly double the energy storage in a light as small as these.

How about you? Do your flashlight habits change during the darker half of the year?
Through the lighter months, I rely on the Nitecore Tube on my keys, and the little Ti Klarus AAA on my neck lanyard. Anything else is a bonus. As the darker times approach, I start carrying a "primary" light more. When I was working, it was a Quark Tactical AA2, but at the moment a Thrunite T10 is proving to be perfectly adequate. I still have the keys and lanyard backups in case of flat battery or loss, but the Thrunite is doing most of the work.
My Thrunite TN12 was mounted on my rifle last night for a bit of after dark target shooting, but has stayed on as my coat light.

The first thing I'm going to do is send my MiNi back to 4Sevens for (10 year!) warranty replacement. I'm sure I will receive a cool white one back, but that's better than nothing at this point.
Olight i3E EOS to match my SAK
That's very similar to what I do. I have a AAA or (usually) AA light in my pocket year round, but select from a wider range of them in the colder months, mostly just because I'm thinking about it more and want variety. I also carry an 18650 light in my jacket or coat for more lumens and runtime. My wintertime lights are typically more "tactical" in use because I tend to carry a sidearm more in the winter.

Must be nice to only have crime in the colder months.

Loving my new D.Q.G Tiny AA! I carry it on my keyring. Small, light and bright! Best AA I've ever had.
I'm carrying the same boring ol' LM Monarch 300. Still going strong 6 years later!
I'm carrying the same boring ol' LM Monarch 300. Still going strong 6 years later!
I haven't posted in this thread for over 2 years, because I've been carrying an Olight i3s almost* everyday for 3 years now. But since I'm not alone in that (I'll have to check in again at the 6 yr mark :) ), I figured I'd pop in. I think I'm one of the few that really likes the M-H-L twisty UI, and haven't been able to find anything I like better for everyday pocket carry.
*I say almost because I lost one in a field helping with a fireworks display this past 4th of July. But I got on Amazon and ordered it's replacement (same i3s, same color) and it was here in 2 days.
I'm not able to show anything like the loyalty you two are. I've got my new Thrunite T10 NW in my pocket and have done so for a whole 4 DAYS!

You are pushing me over the edge with this awesome light :ahhh
Their site has great prices IMO and I'm getting close to pulling the trigger.
It's the bezel color option surrounding the lens... From what I gather the XP-L is based on the older XM-L2. Just more efficient.

:tu: Great little lights. I like having 2 light of the same cell on me. One is my go to while the other can act as a battery holder/back up. I also like when they have somewhat different features.
I've been rocking the Nitecore SRT 5 lately. I love the twisty dial selector, which is easy to find and is intuitive (unlike a second button IMO). The SRT 5 is thin and makes a ton of light.Like mine too... but I'm going to get the SRT9 once it comes out :ahhh

I am still really excited about my Zebralight so it gets carried often but it got me thinking
I wonder if Zebra fans would like a AAA version? I think it would be neat to see one.

That LD20 is a big step up from the E01 mate. Any particular reason?

Sling butt plate?
Despite its size, the MH27 UV won its place in the EDC. It is the Swisschamp of lights, sort off.
I endowed it with a cone diffuser for the car, a red filter for stargazing nights and a stay on flat diffuser for everyday (because it is a narrow spotter).
Now the Stylous Pro is redundant, so I might keep it in my office for pupil reflex examination. The NH01 stays at my bedside.

Here is a view of the lights, as they're packed in a side pocket of my pack, for travel (to work, or wherever).
I tend to really like those Olight cases for my EDC lights (for the most part). Got my first one, when I purchased an M20-X, years ago, and have been buying them ever since lol.
I also had a Pelican 1010 case, with 5 backup 18650 and 2 backup 26650 batteries. The Fenix PD40 is only one in the bunch that uses these.
I know...I'm fanatical.
I can put in the details of each light, if anyone's interested.

It is the newer LED version. I have it in AA and AAA. The AA is the Pro version. They both work well. The AA is brighter and has a wider focus range.

I love it, I didn’t think it would be so bright, yet I contacted them saying about making a clip to also put it on your hat, and yet they came out with two others, one which is a little larger and brighter, and one that’s even brighter and even has a clip  hmm, but this little guy has come in handy a few times and weighs absolutely nothing and good on the keys!

I have 2 Tubes and 1 Tip, and I would probably end up buying Nitecore Tini...I just love those handy little lights from Nitecore.
I'm looking to find new version of Nitecore Tube, one's in solid colors, orange is my favorite.

Love the orange on that Nitecore Tube :like:
I wish more flashlight models were available in that color.
Here's a pic for you Vladimir. I've got to say I like the solid orange a lot more than my old black one.
This also just happen to be what's living in my pocket ATM.

Love the simpleness of this light. I've never had a need for 15 different brightness levels and blinky modes. Just need a simple light that turns on when I click the button, and the EB1 sure does that well!

They are Factory on the model of 0350BRN & 0350GRN and were available for a short run from what I gather.
I saw one for the first time online and knew right away that I had to have one and of course ended up with 1 of each somehow?
Go Figure? :gimme:
So the one pictured is the unused Green one and my EDC is the Brown one!

Of course I also rotate in the original Black G10 that got me hooked on the 0350 in the first place and I would love to get one with a natural non coated blade too but have somehow held off on that one?

The shipping time was estimated as between 7 to 14 days.
I could have gotten a tracking number for $2.
The 14 days aren’t up yet.
In essence, chalk it down to me being a whiny impatient boy. ::)
Point Taken ::)Who does? :rofl:
I rarely like waiting too?I wouldn’t go as far as that, yet. It wouldn’t be fair.

Already have an SC62w,which by the way are pretty heavily discounted now too
And several SC600 of each vintage
But I still pretty much EDC the 52 in the end.
I am trying the SC64 in the 52's place for a week or so to see if I can live with the extra length......and run times?!

Eveready Vest-Pocket light. Patented 1904. The one I have is dated 1909. It originally used an Eveready 750 3v battery(which they stopped making in the 1930s/1940s), but I had to make a battery from a 2xAAA holder, duct tape and conductive tape. I went back to my Maglite at work today, but will take some photos of the inside label and modded battery pack when I get home. :)

I have the M18 latern and its my go to for work would love to have their M18 floodlight AC power along with the battery makes it so sweet but its also expensive. I looked at the Rover USB but its also pricey, and the USB pivot flood but my company provides batteries allday so the Rover AA is likely to find its way to me, and the USB headlamp would be nice too.....many much tools and not many much money lol
Sent from my iPhone, dont expect too much
Cool lights, ez 8) :like:Thanks but there is just 1 light there!
The bottom thing is the battery charger and spare battery,I should have been clearer maybe.
The batteries can charge inside the light by USB and also in the charger thingy.
I got a package deal with extra battery and charger so I can hopefully always have a charged battery ready to go.
This is a pretty sweet work light and also has a NW emitter and is great for working with wire for sure!
S1R today

I love my Eagtac D25A Clicky. 8) So much so that I own two of them, and I'm not normally a guy who buys backups.Same here,I have both A & C versions in Aluminum and a C in Ti,they are really great and maybe the smallest of the type too!
Amici,
My latest light, an Olight 3TEOS. I have two, one in solid Copper, and this one.. If I had to choose between this and the Stylus Micro Stream, I'd go with the latter.
Cheers,
Serge
Amici,
What I feel is the biggest drawback with the 3TEOS compared to the Stylus is the end cap clicky. I feel that the stylus is more robust, as well as utilizing better materials. Both Olight's that I have, (black and copper), seem to require an extra effort just to turn them on, or just fail igniting. That's as compared the the flawless operation of the microstream..
Cheers,
Serge

:tu: I really should get a drop in to get more run time off the 2 CR123s it takes.
Amici,
Here is another TIP which is again, constructed in stainless steel.

The days are getting longer, so my light is getting smaller. ;) Not carried the tiny Thrunite Ti3 NW in ages.

The TIP in copper today.
I must have a newer version because you can turn off the 30-seconds off function. It is meant as an option to the lockout. It left on low setting, and it gets activated in pocket, it shuts off in 30 secs.
The TINI has the same feature and, in addition, it has a 2 second delay at turn-on. Never had the TINI turn itself on.
Got em both in copper. Very nice quality (at least the ones I have).

Holy cow these things are small and powerful. 180 lumens for 30min run time on normal AAA battery, 4 hours on 50 lumens. Also I LOVE LOVE the difuser it came with. Makes it so much more functional.

Very cool light, ez 8) :like:
Went to grab a bite to eat today. I needed to use to latrine and the lights didn't turn on. Glad I had my light on me.I am just glad that I can not tell what this picture is!
 I set the light up THEN proceeded. Good reason to have a light that can stand. It was my Thrunite Ti AAA. The latrine had a motion light that was not working. Its happened a few times actually. Walk in, pause, no light, no problem.

Still the HDS
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190616/5c8074a4bd819ffa6f587a94f8370663.jpg)
HDS! Those were the good old days, I remembered when I was a full fledged flashaholics, those are the grail lights for many people. Those multi-modes button press were light years ahead of many competitor, surefire was great in quality but no where as 'smart' as the HDS. But eventually with all the new led lights flooding the market, they no longer could sell as well and eventually faded out (went out of business?). I did recall they came back on for a bit, but are they still around?
HDS is still around. https://www.hdssystems.com
With you mentioning clicking and thinking they went out of business, it makes me wonder if you are even aware of their rotary lights? To me the HDS Rotary is an outstanding light - 24 brightness levels controlled by a rotary ring with 3 other user programmed settings easily accessed by tail clickie. HDS is not for those wanting high lumens, but definitely nice for those wanting a durable and versatile light.
I wonder if Henry knows yet?

Thanks for the link, I'd look them up and see those offerings.
Never a huge fan for clickie(it will fail eventually), and personally it does look a little too bulky for my current taste now. These posts just reminded me I got one long ago and I probably should dig it out from storage for reminiscence sake. Btw, I remember it being expensive but it was a buy once, cry once kinda deal for me. But looking at all the pricing nowadays, why would they not include a clip for a round flashlight like this? If it were a Damascus hand made clip I could understand it, but $57 for just a plain jane clip? Isn't it a bit much?
If you buy a Clickie these days you do get the basic Plain Jane Clip with it but the $57 Clip that is pictured on my Rotary in the 2nd pic above is a specialty clip developed for the Rotary and according to Henry the best he could come up with for this light.
Many do not like this clip at all really and would not want it to be added in the base pice of the already pricey light.
Others like Sos24 use a Lanyard to contain his Rotary.
There are also other ways to use a more standard clip on a Rotary but there are usually downsides in doing so as well.
I don't love the clip but it beats having no clip to me so I have a few with one and a few without one
.
The HDS is a little Rotund to me as well and I rarely EDC one because of it.
The HDS also has limited Lumen output compared to most current lights really but those who love them, love them nonetheless!
The HDS is designed to Get You Home no matter the conditions and I will say I am confident in that being the case for sure, clicky or otherwise!
Despite my slight complains about the 'value' of the accessories, I do have to agree with you on the robust construction of the build. In some way, it does remind me of the surefire lights, might not be the most advance tech, but definitely build to last.
Sorry but I can not agree here with you at all.
The HDS might be one of the most Technologically advanced lights around these days and especially the Rotary model.
Have you ever tried to program one?
They can be used just fine out of the box but also have the ability to pretty easily customize in some unique ways to be just how you prefer them too.
The notion that the smooth stepped rotary selected output and control from the rotary encoder to the single button is simple at all is just not the case.
If you read up some about how this light is designed and built I think it quickly becomes clear too.
Now the fact that these are also SF rugged and simple to operate ye really flexible at the same time is true but the road to get there is not as straightforward as most lights these days.
There are for sure more complex lights for sale these days but not many with the same combination of features, performance and reliability that is proven over the long time HDS have been in the marketplace either.

Love the smoky scales. What will it take for you to give up your rotary? Just curious. Is there anything about it that you don’t like?
The rotary style has me looking real hard at the Jetbeam RRT-01
The Jetbeam RRT-01 is a really nice light. The only thing that I do not like about it is that it only turns on at low and off at low, inless you want to turn off by loosening the battery compartment. To get to any brightness level you must progress through all levels from low then back. If you like ramping lights, you may really like the rotary, because I feel it gives more incremental control than single button ramping. Personally I prefer the button plus rotary UI, which a previous version of this light had, but this one does not.
Are you saying this one has the Tactical interface too?
I far prefer the standard Rotary interface as I get twice the number of steps on the Rotary and I really have no need or love for the Strobe stuff at all.
I got one to give it a try but have considered getting it reprogrammed to be a standard rotary because of the coarseness of the fewer steps and lack of range on the dial with the Tactical interface.
I liked the Jetbeam for a short while too but the lack of a switch made it impractical for me to carry as they ALL turn on in my pocket all the time if there is no actual on/off switch.
Many still do even with the switch but that one was one of the worst or me.
I’m sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but no.
I was saying that because the RRT does not have a switch and off is located at the low end, you do not have the option of turning the RRT on/off anywhere but low unless you partially unscrew the battery compartment as on/off.
I felt the same with the HDS Tactical. When I sent mine in to get the upgraded software, I asked Henry to switch it to an EDC Rotary vice EDC Tactical Interface and am really happy I did. With the Rotary you can still see the steps in brightness levels as you go thru them slow, but it is not drastic like the tactical. When I was replying to ROC, I just meant having infinite levels on the rotary so it was smooth ramping would be ideal in my opinion, but the Rotary is still great.
No I am sorry I did not misunderstand and was not really asking about the RRT at all but only the comment about the HDS and was trying to figure out of the model number you listed was the Tac interface and not the standard Rotary,Whew!
I just didn't and still do not know what you mean by the term "button plus rotary"?
Are you saying the way the HDS is with the Rotary Encoder Dial AND a Button on the end vs. the RRT dial only operation?
It is hard not to agree with this if thats what you mean!
I purchased the original RRT-01 a while ago and sold it quickly. The control ring was too easy to rotate. Just recently got the 2019 version and really like it. There is a definite firm detent at both ends so much more secure in my opinion.
Even using the battery that came with it.
So decreased odds of turning on in your pocket with the newer models?Yes, althoughI did still have it happen a couple times.
Yes, althoughI did still have it happen a couple times.
Yikes. I may not go that direction after all. I mean, I know the RRT turns on at the lowest setting, so I doubt there would be a burn issue...but the thought of my light draining without me knowing it is a problem for me.Well how do you think i knew it was on in my pocket?
One thing that absolutely drives me crazy...the lights go out and someone has a light that they have not checked the batteries in for a year and it is dead. If I was like, "No worries, I have a light right here," and it was dead, I would be embarrassed.

Good old Eagletac D25A Clicky for me.
Can’t let this thread fall off. Emisar today.
That D25A looks well used.
Which version Emissar is that? D4v2? Which is your preference between the FW3 and Emissar?
It’s a D4v2. It’s the sst-20 6500k. It’s my for smurfs and giggles light. I was just in the process of buying another in a warmer tint when I got the notification for this thread.
My FW is a 219c and I prefer the warmer tint. Trying to decide on what tint to order for the D4v2. I’m ordering from Mountain and they are out of a lot of the options.
To answer your other question, I prefer the Emisar. The side switch just does it for me. I notice no difference in pocket carry.
I was just curious. I also prefer the D4v2. I am considering getting a Titanium one, but they are currently out-of-stock which is probably a good thing.
They Just feel more solid to me. That Ti version is pretty nice. Wish they had the glow switch on all of them. I decided to hold off on ordering another till I can make up my mind. Might have to consider the Ti. What emitter are you thinking about getting? I had a XPL 3A in my cart, but chickened out.
If I go stock, then most likely the Nichia 219c 5000k. I am also tempted to go through SkyLumen to get a titanium a one with the White 2 and throw optics. That is what I have in my current D4 and other than being a little cooler than desired it is really nice. The one I’d really like is his One-Off, but I can’t bring myself to do it, considering how much I spent on flashlights last month. That’s a beautiful light! Didn’t check the price. Was to afraid. I’m not that deep into flashlights yet, but I’m getting there.

Its a work in progress as I have only had this one for a Week or so and of course this is yet another seemingly never ending quest of mine! :dunno:Makes sense to me. Especially if you are lugging it around all day. I’ll have to check it out.
Hard to believe right?!
The thing I know I like about it is how light weight it is because it only carries so much but guess what the thing I like least about it is?
The exact same thing!
That D25A looks well used.
Which version Emissar is that? D4v2? Which is your preference between the FW3 and Emissar?
Ordered another Emisar. Anyone found a cure for this smurf yet? :(There is no cure I know of. Although, I do know it is highly contagious and interacting with others who have the same smurf can cause it to get worse. That being said and knowing your attraction to Emissar, have you looked at SkyLumen Emissar D4vn v2 with throw optics with White 2 emitter? The price is steep compared to the cost of the regular D4 v2, but it is a pretty awesome light.

That’s a big light. Where did you carry? Just curious.
It came with a belt sheath. I also tried it clipped to my pocket and it works well.
Nice. I’m always worried I’ll drop my lights if I clip them to my pocket on the outside. Or lose them.
I had it inside my pocket. These jeans are a bit loose. I thought about grabbing some carpenter or painter pants for the long pocket along the leg just for extra carry space. I have been rotating lights lately so I am trying to make sure I am able to carry them comfortably. The addiction is strong in this one. :D
The flashlight lies we tell ourselves and others:
1. I can quit anytime I want to
2. Just one more and I am done
3. I am not as bad as (enter other flashaholic's name here)
4. It hasn't changed me at all
5. I don't buy lights in the morning so it isn't REALLY an addiction
6. I only buy budget lights...I am not on the hard stuff
7. I only buy lights when I am stressed out and I need to unwind
The same pair I almost always carry - HDS and Jetbeam Mini.

I’m starting to like the color purple. That paracord really pops in that pic.:2tu: purple is great. I think that paracord is electric purple.
Gareth,
Off topic. Where are you located? I used to live in St Cyrus just North of Montrose for several years.
I'm from Edinburgh originaly but am now in Forfar. Very near St Cyrus indeed! I know Montrose well enough but St Cyrus hardly at all I'm sorry to say.
:like:
What’s the knife? Looks like a solo, maybe
St Cyrus is little more that a store and some homes. Ahhh Forfar...I remember it well. Spent most of my time in Montrose or Brechin.
You're a bike guy, right? Did you know this local bit of history?
https://thedavidsonlegacy.com/our-story/
Holy cow! No, I didn't know about that. Man, I missed an incredible opportunity to visit that cottage. Ugh...that is disappointing. Thank you for sharing that!
Aberlemno...that is as you are going toward Forar if I remember.
Ironically, the review on CPF states that the throw is 370 meters. That is why I like to hear real world reviews from people that use the light for specific tasks.
Managed to carry my FW3A in my coin pocket today to make room for a folder. It wasn’t bad.
Stefano,
I am a real runtime junkie and the Armytek headlamps have some super impressive low end run times, and some night splitting upper end performance. I would love to hear more a bout your experience with you light. I am thinking it may be one I need to add to my collection soon.
Stefano,
Thanks for the detailed reply. It answers everything I need to know
FW3A is small for an 18650, but I would think it would be a little bulky in the coin pocket.
What Spyderco is that in the picture with the FW3A?
Carrying my Thrunite Neutroc 2C today.
Last night I woke up at 3am and could not sleep. It was a pretty mild night and I stepped out on the Balcony with several of my favorite lights just to do a little beam comparison. I probably looked like a fool with a bunch of lights line up and me shining them on cars in the parking lot, but I was enjoying it. The reality is that I really don't need so many lights, but the journey of finding and testing different lights with their individual light profiles, temperatures and performance is kind of fun. I like trying to find that "perfect" light.

The push toward maximum lumens in a small package really catches the eye of the average buyer, but the truth is, the ability to sustain that brightness just is not there. It is great to have a light that advertises that it can blast out 3000 lumens, but when you see that it can only maintain that for a minute before a massive step down, it really is not that great.
nice EDC !that a very good looking Convoy there.
Today I swapped the tail cap butto from silver to black :
I don't need the "semi-transparent" ring of the silver one (that allows to use lighted switches... that are not compatible with my current driver)
and ... black is really cool along with orange !
while it was disassembled, I also coated all the o-rings with silicon grease to increase water resistance of the flashlight
Going very old school with the Fenix E01.
carried the Orange 18350 S2+ today (and gave the T2 and the other S2+ to good friends)
Tank007, as always
No 2021 post in this topic yet? Shocking.
I'm back with my good old D25A Clicky right now. Feels huge compared to the Nitecore Tiki I've been carrying a lot but for a 1xAA light with a switch it's still extremely compact.
I have been noticing this too!
I know for myself I am pretty much carrying the same lights every day now and have been for a few years so whats the point of repeating the same pics endlessly on the one hand and on the other hand I find that the more I post pics the more I look at pics and the more new lights I buy that I really do not need to!!!
I guess I should report here that I somehow did not buy a single light in the last year or more really and though I have seen a small few of interest I just have stopped adding to the herd!
It honestly feels kind of liberating in a strange way.
I have the lights that work for me now and unless I am adding to my daily utility I am trying to stop the collecting for its own sake or passing interest.
I have replaced the Milwaukee AAA Penlight with rubber chomp area a few times as I wear them out pretty quickly but these are just a disposable tool that I use every day and not anything more but otherwise I have been clean.
I am starting to embrace the truism that "I do not own my stuff my stuff owns me" if you know what I mean!?!
Maglite Solitaire; Spectrum Series LED Warm White.
Interesting. I'm not familiar with Warm White LED. I love LED flashlights for their brightness, but my eyes don't do well with small detail in super bright light. We have a combination lock on the bike cage at work and in fall when it's dark, my LED bike lights just wash out the numbers. So I've taken to carrying an old Maglite Solitaire with an incandescent bulb. Works much better as the softer light doesn't wash everything out. Do you think the warm white LED would be comparable?
That's why I bought it. I wanted an output similar to an incandescent, but incandescent lights are harder to deal with; due to lack of battery life, and the fact bulbs with regular use, need to be changed regularly. It's brighter, the battery lasts longer; there are no bulbs to change every couple of weeks, and it doesn't get hot after extended periods as much.
A couple of favorites on me today.
Malkoff MDC w/VME and M61NL drop-in. 4000K Luminous SST-20 95 CRI
Peak LED Solutions Eiger. 4000K Nichia 219B 95+ CRI R9080
The Peak is a fantastic little task light that can be easily clipped to the brim/bill of a cap for use as a headlamp. 15 lumens for 4-5 hours on a Eneloop AAA.
The Malkoff is great for the more infrequent tasks requiring more output. 200 lumens for 2.5 hours on a 1000mAh 14500.
Both are made in the USA and will survive just about anything you can throw at them.

Nice pair!
The Peak Eiger is now on my list. The Maglite Solitaire doesn't have enough power for a go-to light, and my problem with Olight is that they are made in China. At $50, the Eiger isn't as expensive as I thought it would be.

Very nice :tu:
I have been carrying the Seeker 2 for work the last few days. It's a bit larger than the ones I've previously carried, but what a torch!

Here is an example of the replacement unit for the A29: https://www.batteryjunction.com/rovyvon-ra20-replacement-batt-a23.html
I'm very much against proprietary parts like this in any equipment I use. I'll except in in disposable items to a degree, but not something I plan to use for many years.

It's a compromise, by moving away from standard batteries it enables different designs and form factors. This isn't to everyone's tastes, but does serve a purpose.
Yeah, I understand that. The options are interesting and useful and breaking away from the normal designs are possibly the only real way to achieve them.
I'm just getting old and cranky about the disposable society we live in. :D I'm old school I guess and still carrying around P60 hosts because I like modularity, dependability and the ability to actually fix them, upgrade them and keep them going.
Anyone know if that Li-Ion pack is a standard item?
How gadet-y does a flashlight need to be?
If you used something until it didn't work anymore, and I mean used not abused, then it wasn't 'disposible' in my view.
That's just semantics to me. I use a Sharpie marker (not abused) until it doesn't work anymore. It's a disposable item. You use it until you have no other choice than to dispose of it.
I have LED flashlights that are nearly 20 years old and I still use. I can still buy cells for them and they still perform the task they were designed for perfectly fine. Nothing has made them truly obsolete, so I don't have to dispose of them. I can buy replacement parts for them. In many cases, I can buy parts to upgrade them to current technology, with more efficient drivers and emitters.
When you get to the point where your battery has degraded until the runtime is no longer useful for the tasks you ask of it and you can't buy a replacement cell to run your otherwise perfectly good flashlight on...well, I guess another way to put it is "engineered obsolescence". Tools should not be designed that way, in my opinion.
The nights are fair drawing in (as they say around here) so it's time to get a bit more punch and runtime in the pocket. This Eagtac D25A Clicky has never let me down.Nice little combo all around :tu:
Clearly we disagree, and I'm going to highlight that by pointing out what you just mentioned is essentially Trigger's broom, or for international members, the ship of Theseus.
If you replace the emitter and the driver in a flashlight, then all that remains is the hollow tube. That is not a testament to 'repairability,' that's you building a new flashlight in the corpse of the old one. It's a testament to your desire to recycle and your love for a certain form factor, but if your argument goes down this route, you may as start talking about disassembling lights and replacing cells that were never intended for that, who cares about the intended design when you're just going to use the shell how you see fit, right?
In many cases, I can buy parts to upgrade them to current technology, with more efficient drivers and emitters.
You may want to re-read what I said. I didn't refer to updating the driver or emitter as repair-ability, I referred to it as upgrading.
Please don't put words in my mouth. Repairing would be replacing a switch, a lens, or replacing off-the shelf orings.

The first statement in bold and the last statement in bold are what I took issue with. You focused on the word repairability, I'm focused on it not being the same light for 20 years.
Note: saying that you do still have some that are 20 years old and still use stock doesn't invalidate this.
Like how you could use the same PC case, but replace every internal component. It wouldn't be the same PC, it would be a different PC in the same case.
But whatever, you prefer a certain approach, I prefer a mix. c'est la vie.
Been rocking this fenix ld01 as my edc for 9 years.
I've got it's older brother, the L0D. Still a usable little light, even 15 years (!) later.
I dont know if its regular item stocked :dunno:.
On/off would suffice. I was pretty well set with my Zebralight SC52 L2 till I picked up an Olight S1R when they came out. I've always been intrigued by the Tiki and such so when Rovyvon came out with the Auroa with RED Aux LEDs I snapped it up. Its been on my keychain since and has really proved itself. Its more of a back up light.
I also have an early TOOL AA. Great light. I like both it and the ZL for their ability to use whatever cell I have handy, Eneloops are my go to but I also have 14500s for extra punch. The Olight sits at my bedside these days. Now to complicate my answer even further, I really love gadget-y so Anduril was on my radar for a long time. I was generously gifted a D4V2 that I LOOOOOOOOOVE. Talk about fun. Necessary? I'd say so since al my light bases are totally covered and whats wrong with a little fun?
I've got a handful of AAA lights as well and one in particular I have 2Xs, Fenix LD02. Brilliant light.
Again I can't argue with your logic with proprietary cells in particular the one we are discussing :salute:.
I'll say that since my "bases" are well covered it is super fun to have a play with new gadgets. YMMV as well as others milage. On/Off is all that is needed but I do enjoy the fun. Did I tell you about my D4V2 with aux LEDs?
I cannot begin to be thankful enough to Sos :hatsoff:. On Halloween I used lightening mode in my window and it was such a blast. My dear Sir, you'll get no push back from me when your right you're right. My other lights do what they need and some go a bit further with options. That's all fine and dandy. My Aurora with flashing red LED recently was used as I changed a flat on the side of the road. Whether it helped or my cars flashers helped or the fact I was well off the road or where I positioned myself or that I can change a tire in no time flat it was another level in my mind of safety.
I do love my Eneloops and I do love a light that can take multiple cell chemistries.
Nice light. Variable light is a very nice feature. I appreciate being able to adjust output that best suits what I need. Any light that accepts various cells is a bonus tho I am still loving my 18650 D4V2. Anduril is so much fun.
