I edc a SkeleTool anyway, but paired with a proper sak with scrissors, and nailfile and toothpick...I understand, I too normally team up with a hacked Micra to makeup for what Skeletool doesn't have.
I don't like either the ST or the Micra enough to be worth the aggravation, but thanks for the opportunity and best of luck, guys...
So is that yay or nay on if I am good in case my Skelly shows up a few days late?Yay! :tu: welcome to the party.
Oh and regular old Skeletool will be what I bring to the party.
No Skeletool or MUT here so I won't be taking part.
Given that December is wood and hay month I would only want to do the challenge with the MUT.
Hats off to Kampfer though for a great idea and prize.

The Skeletool and I certainly didn't get along. I traded it within two weeks. :(Just like me and Gerbers.
Did you keep the MP1, or did that one go too?The Skeletool and I certainly didn't get along. I traded it within two weeks. :(Just like me and Gerbers.
To get warmed up for this one, I've been pocket carrying a Skeletool today. Not clipped, but down in the pocket. Its doable, especially when I ditch my regular folder.:tu:

I can't decide if I should warm up for this challenge by starting to EDC my Skeletool again, or if I should get as much quality time with my modded tools as I can before I ditch them for a month... :ahhh
Skelly related question that I thought could go here.
Does it come with the pocket clip or is that always something you have to purchase seperately?

Cant get a Skele for $40 over here. And I would have to get the CX version that is even more expencive, as I dont like CE blades. I dont think I would miss many tools though, as I usually EDC a Wenger SI combined with a Vic Manager and a folder. The only tool I would probably miss is the scissors on the manager. :)
the pocket clip comes standard on all Skeletool models, but it's easily removable if you prefer to go clipless. :tu:
Hacked Skeltool is mentioned but not hacked PS :pok:.Skeletool* = Any tool from the Skeletool family.

That surprised me, Noodle. Your carry tends to be quite minimalistic anyway. Was it just the lack of scissors or something else?
Been doing some thinking about this whole Skeletool combo edge blade situation and came to the conclusion I should give CE a chance.
While i enjoy a plain edge for easy and precise cuttings, i prefer serrated blades for the more heavy cutting "at real work", where each plain edge would go blunt soon.

Babola it looks like you black modded you fingers not the MUT.
So I tried a little SKTC pregaming today by leaving my Spydercos in the room and just rocking the Wave. Well as far as needing tools it was a bust since it was inventory computers day. I been thinking this challenge will be hard for two reasons.
One. I got a lot of neat stuff coming that will get here right about December. Boo! New toys and I can not even play with em. (Evowood 18, OC Pioneer, Swisschamp and a Spyderco Para 2 Sprint)
Two. Just gotten so use to having a knife clipped to my front pocket all the time. Can not imagine how many times I will reach for it.
Three. Yeah so what I can't count. Will kind be lame not being able to switch it up everyday or so.

Para 2 Sprint, which one? :pok:
I'm in with the freestyle CX
Maybe I should get a SkeleTool and go for the challenge, hoping it grows on me.
Rules question..
I own a MUT and a freestyle, are we able to switch between the different family members of the skeletool during the month? Or just pick one and run with it?
-AdmSlc
* Any one MT from the Skeletool family would be accepted, that include : MUT, Skeletool, Freestyle, Style CS/PS & Style.
You should not switch tool between above selection during the challenge, so choose wisely before the challenge began.
Oh I also have a rules question.
So lets say I find a cheap Rebar to mod my Wave with. Can I work ON other tools during the month?
4) If you need a dedicated tool for a task, please do so. No one is asking you to cut down a tree or trim your finger nails with a Skeletool… Please use common sense.

Yeah I reread the rules but thought tinkering with another MT would break the spirit of the rules.
A lot of this challenge is having to leave the other toys in the drawer.
Skeletool, $35 shipped.

:D its her first multi tool, from Kampfer. With the contingency that she has to become a mto member and give a review of her LM. So far the scissors have gotten the most use.
So far I sent MT to UK, Netherlands, Germany & NZ, all about $15.
Sure but shop quotes are just killer.
I've got a knife coming atm that cost less than $15 to send, the shop wanted $45 and that was their cheapest option.
The cost of sending from NZ more than doubled a few months ago, sending a MT to America registered cost US$40.

You can score a Skelly for like $35 and the prize is not the point of this excercise. We do it for the pain and derived enjoyment of watching others suffer. Or maybe that is just me.
One of these is going to Norway. >:D
Kampfer.Something I did.
Do all Sleletools have a skull on them or is that something you did?

Glad the Skeletool arrived ahead of schedule. Also what makes it more interesting is you will be using a rebar right up to the challenge begin, what a contrast in tool load out..
Amen, most people use knife & drivers most often, which Skeletool offers.Glad the Skeletool arrived ahead of schedule. Also what makes it more interesting is you will be using a rebar right up to the challenge begin, what a contrast in tool load out..
Been doing some thinking about this multi tool situation. I know who around here does that right?
There are some tools that I use almost everyday and some that are once every week or so. Then we have stuff like the can opener that don't see much use but when needed it is nice that they are there. Of course nobody likes to talk about them red headed step children that never see the light of day. Looking at you corkscrew and mini driver.
What I am trying to get at is while Little Boy has a awesome set of tools that I actually like. Day in and day out I find myself using the screwdrivers and knife over and over.
Will be interesting to see how much I miss the rest during the SKTC month.
I have a new Skeletool CX that I am thinking about selling, would anyone be interested? Why don't you enter the Challenge, and sell it after?
We are going to find out. ;)

Yes of course. Did you get your 154CM blade?
Thanks.
I may not be qualified to join because I will be travelling for 5 days to Manila by plane on dec. 10. I hesitate to bring my Skeletool because it might be confiscated at the airport.
You gonna be in the challenge Colt?He is on the list.
You know you want too. :poke:
Nice set up Colt!
So here's my load out.

Think I'll pocket carry the skele and sheath the bits an extension.

Finally the excuse I need to buy a bit set and extension.
Thanks Colt and the SKTAOCPC!
Oh damn Getahl, I'm sorry to hear that. :( You, your little girl, and your family are in my prayers.
I'm going to have to bow out before the challenge even begins. My baby girl, seven weeks old, just underwent surgery to correct biliary atresia, so we'll be here at Children's Hospital LA for the next two weeks or so. Please send prayers, smoke, and good vibes our way.You guys will be in my thoughts. I wish you all the very best!
While I won't be participating, I will be living vicariously through this thread. Make it an interesting one! I do have a Style CS with me right now, never know when you might need a small pair of scissors.
Skeletools on sale at sportsmans warehouse for 40$. I'm hoping I may be joining the clan if all goes well tomorrow :D

You have a OC Pioneer also?
Thanks fire the well wishes, all. It's not going to be a fun ride. The Simpsons! When Homer is buying a new car and the mob are shooting at him.
Anyway, sorry for the derailment, here's my carry fit December, an early model Style CS, with the speed holes (bonus points for those who get the reference), that I used a diamond sharpener on to add a v-grind to the blade. There's something about coal grinds that drives me nuts.

I don't see why not, other than you might need micro drivers from bit kit.
Will have to do all the jobs I use these tools for:

You'll live. But if you to pry, get a prybar.
No awl (i use that a lot) , no scissors, no saw (no big loss) , no prybar, no tweezers.
I have however gained pliers, and might be able to do some prying with the carabiner/bottleopener
And the knife will have to do the awl and scissor work.
You are probably right, Ill manage.
Im looking forward to read about how the heavier tool users will manage.
this interesting challenge has pushed me over the line.
I feel kinda bad about this.
The rest of you don't have a chance in this challenge because of the head start I am going to get. It is like 12 whole hours.
No way you can recover from something like that.

You guys know there are no farm animals involved with this contest right? :pok:
After using the skeletool this afternoon I decided that I did not like the CE blade. Nothing particular about the skeletools blade VS other CE blades. I just dont like CE blades.Sorry to ask an obvious question, to most, but what's a CE blade? And what kind of metal is that etched blade, looks cool, like a faux Damascus blade haha
So I just performed my first ever proper mod.
I recently bought a bunch of second class LM etched laminated blades from Texas Tool crafters. One of them was a skeletool blade in pretty good nic, but with no edge.
So I spent an hour on a water wheel stone and grinding stone and managed to free hand a OK edge on it.
Getting it to fit was a pain, but somehow it all came together in the end :)

Drywall Anchors
And makes a good door stop.
Cool Colt! You where put some up, I was tearing a bunch of them down. LOL! Of coarse, mine where all soaked.
I love the looks of that skull on your Skele Kampfer :tu:That is not the only reason it is there.
I wouldn't notice since I don't have one, but clever on your part, and stylish ;)I love the looks of that skull on your Skele Kampfer :tu:That is not the only reason it is there.
Anyone notice you could leave finger print on blade through the two larger holes on blade cover? The skull is there to prevent that.

Alert! Alert!
We have infiltrators in the wire and they are armed. Armed with sub standard multi tools but armed non the less.
A sad little piece cake for my birthday, and I have to share it with my wife
Do you think skeletool's blade is sharp enough to slice it?
While the holes in the blade are neat they are also a nice place for meat and cheese to fillThat means you got an extra issue of meat n cheese, no complain.

So we all know how uncomfortable the skeletool is when using the pliers. It is down right is horrible. Here's a little help in the comfort zone.Good idea Colt! I will try that when I am horsing down on some wire.

G'Day,I could not lift up a Surge anymore after I got use to Skeletool.
Day 3 with the MUT. Sadly no real challenges today. I had a good Caramel and Coconut muffin, and the MUT cut that pretty easily.
I hope the weekend will bring some more opportunities to use the tool. On a plus side, I'm getting used to the weight and the size. I think by the end of December, it will be nearly not noticeable. I may just challenge January by EDC-ing a Surge 8)
Cheers,

Today I used the skeletool for sharpening a pencil, unscrewed a wood screw, used the knife to drill a new pilot hole and screwed the woodscrew into the new hole. It performed better at this than expected. :tu:
I also used the blade to cut wood shavings for the fireplace, wich I do every evening so that its easy to light the fire in the morning. The edge retention of the PE blade i put on it is not great. So I have to sharpen it every night. On the bright side I get to improve my sharpening skills. :)

How we carry out MT are our personal preference, I am not a fan of sheath carry, I like clip on my MT so I can pocket carry them, even for heavy MT like Surge. I found it more comfortable this way. Again, I wear jeans 90% of the time so that is a factor too.
Glad to have you with us, Pete.

How does one drives a train?
Maybe call yourself a train rider or train gas pedal pusher?

Grathr, doesn't seen like your aftermarket blade is performing any better than the stock 420hc blade, maybe switching back?
So far so good. However I must say I honestly hate the tip down only pocket clip on my Leatherman. Constantly feels like it is going to fall out of my pocket. I am having a pretty hard time not having screwdrivers on me either. All I have is a blade and pliers. I feel naked. Why didn't you go with a Skeletool instead?

I've been carrying one every day for four years now. What do I win? What do you think of it?
My normal carry is , sheath carry a MT and pocket a Sak with a dangler. I don't really like a Sak bottomed out in a front pocket. Oddly enough I am pocket carrying the skele, the bits and driver are in a sheath for challenge.

Keep your pants ON, soldier!Constantly feels like it is going to fall out of my pocket.
Been having a issue with my Skelly like this.
While I wear it through the day the Skelly does not move from its spot.
At least four times since I started carrying a pocket Skeletool it has fallen out of my pants pocket. It has always been while the pants are off though and I am picking them up off the floor or bed.
Not super worried about it since, like I said so fo so good while wearing it about. Still considering doing something to make it a little bit tighter.
Do enjoy how easy it is to get in and out of the pocket though. Some of my Spyderco's are bad about this.

Where is the steering wheel? :pok:
I am new to Skelly world and already having buyers remorse, should I get the CX and give this one to a friend?

Hmmm. How do I get myshroms in my soup, with a MT with no can opener?

Use the smal flat driver bit and a meat mallet :)
I used the mallet to gently tap the plier head, driving the bit into the can, wich worked surprisingly well. :tu:

nice work, Grathr -- love this solution! :tu:
I wonder if a similar method could be implemented to use the back side of the carabiner to open a can... I remember seeing it done in a video review of the Style CS, but the metal on the Skeletool might be too thick...

I am new to Skelly world and already having buyers remorse, should I get the CX and give this one to a friend?
What is it about the Skelly that is making you not like it?
I have the regular Skelly also and do not feel the need to "upgrade" although I am pretty sure I want to score a PE 154 CM blade for it.
I agree, i like the blade on Skulle more than on my Mini-Surge, disregarding the type of steel.

From Leathermans i own IMO has CX (PE) the best and sharpest blade, its better than the blade from charge tti. Also MUT seems to have better blade than the Surge i usually edc.
I wish LM would put a cm154 or a s30v blade on the Surge.
This is where LM's bit system failed.
This is where LM's bit system failed.
The holes are simply too small for the bit to pass through, even it did, it won't reach deep enough. This is where LM's bit system failed.
would the bit extender have helped, or are the holes too small? I can't tell for sure from the pic.

I often have this problem too.
The few days with the Skeletool showed me that this is perfect for my requirements and I gave the normal version to a good friend tonight.
Also called "my dealer" and will be picking up a skeletool cx and bit kit tomorrow morning.
Better blade now makes sense for long term use.

Pieter From No Church would be the most probable.

I could just carry a Surge for the same weight as a MUT.
Know which I would rather have? I bet you do.
Just saying the point of the Skelly is the enormus weight savings IMO.

I think I have found my favourite EDC setup, this gives me the most options and tools for my daily light duty needs.
I would like to hear what is the most useful bit to carry in the tool?
I have put in the Philips and flat combo bit as well as the small torx.
Stock is 2x Philips and 2x flat.
He is not part of the challenge.
Normally I pair up a Micra with Skulle.
I could not commit to a tool I had never used before, December is probably my most active month as far a multitools go and I did not want to limit myself at this point. Holiday house at the coast needs constant tweaking and summer outdoor activities are full time till the 12th Jan for me now.
Having 14x SAKs incoming also played a part. But I am here learning about my new Skeletool CX and already getting benefits from it.
Good luck to all those doing the challenge.
Today was the day to hang Christmas lights. A little late probably, but I'll just leave them up a little longer ;)

The cap lifter on Skeletool is excellent, but has one found a practical use of the carabiner yet?

It does, but would it matter one way or another? The cap lifter on Skeletool is excellent, but has one found a practical use of the carabiner yet?Does it hold bottle caps after you open bottles? No cap bottles here to try it on.
-AdmSlc
I only have the freestyle and the MUT that are in the skeletool challenge. I wanted a heck of a challenge since carrying the MUT would be a lot easier for me.

The carabiner is the most iconic feature of the entire Skeletool family (except Freestyle & Style), while I think it has very limited practical use, it looks good.
Using the hex bit from bit kit to put together a play set for my boy. T-handle offers a lot of force to turn them screws.
Crucial, Octane & PowerDuo can only dream about this.
I was inspired by this thread and used my Skeletool cx for som days until I found yesterday that I lost the bit that was in the handle even though I have pinched the metal part to secure it. Very annoying.

So much concur with Nate and Colt.
I tried, but my dislike of the SE and more so the CE continues. Only thing worse to me then a CE blade is a short CE blade.
Not only that but stupid TTT does not have any Skelly PE blades in stock.
Please do not take my dislike for the CE or SE personal. If you like them I support your choice of a sub standard blade, it is just not for me.
Also it is in no way a indication on the Skeletool which I am enjoying.

Reprofile it into a PE.
for those not liking the CE blade (and I don't blame you, I absolutely detest CE blades!), beavs1965 has some listed in his "parts for sale (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,56283.0.html)" thread.
I'm currently working out a deal with him and will provide appropriate feedback once it's completed. :salute:

Not sure the regulation of your son's school, but here in CA it is illegal to have locking blade over 3" in school ground, Skeletool is perfectly legal. (As far as how I understood the law, it is very confusing.)
This thread has made me notice something.Yes, I believe that what Skeletool is designed for.
I am willing to bet 90% of us could get by with just a Skeletool and some scissors (Micra or SAK).
Most of what I see is food prep and screwing.
Just an observation.

For my daily suburban life, I am perfectly happy with Skulle + Micra.
If I was going outdoor, adding a saw would be nice.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a blade exchanger on Skeletool?
It should comes with three optional things that you attached to it as you saw fit the day: Saw, Scissors, File.

I have a good collection of miltary shovels.
I must decide which one to use.
There is also advantage of having two tools, in case you forgot / dropped / lost one, you have another one to get by.

When my wife needs something, I let her use the Micra, although she has a Classic SD on her keys.
The reason I chose Micra as Skulle's partner is because it has a good size scissors which is easy to use comparing to other scissors on MT. Also Micra has an array of small drivers for delicate tasks which Skulle lacks.

I wish my office job allowed me more opportunities to use my MTs. I just sit in an office all day and wish I could have more hands on situations where I could deploy my MT.You can use the freestyle as manual paper shredding machine..

Today i cut fingernails with the wire cutter from mut and the blade did the work what usualy the file does..:salute: Creative way to MUT it.
If I choose one to put on keychain, I would go with Style CS, but since I am keeping the tool inside a pouch, Micra is the way to go, for me.
I sometimes pair a Style CS with my Skele (but not this month, obviously) for the scissors and small driver. I like how easily it clips to my key ring, plus I've never been a big fan of the Micra for some reason... maybe I need to give it another chance.
Don`t own a Micra but if the Style PS had the blade from CS it would be just perfect. Lost one CS in may and bought quickly a new one but PS was already in keychain and so it went. I`m still thinking the best mod way to install the CS blade to PS.Like this?
This would be a simple toolchange. I`m thinking to keep scissors and add the blade. One idea was to replace the file but thats also :-\I seen "Evil" was able to install scissors and blade on top of each other, it was more involve than just simple tool swap.
First thing i did was showing Chako`s collection to my wife :D

You know it would feel better if your head is placed in the other handle while you are screwing?

I know I'm really late to this game, but I have a pretty high opinion of the Skeletool. I used one to tie most of a 50' x 25' x 2', two-layer, 12" on centre, upright-brace-every-two-feet-in-every-direction 10m rebar cage one time. Don't ask about the circumstances; it's a short story, and also boring.Jothra is back :ahhh
Though it did take a very large crane to lift afterwards. I should see if I can find the picture.

my CX helped me put together a craft table for my wife last night. I ended up needing a couple different hex bits from the bit kit, and discovered that the Skele plier head was the perfect size for this particular job... ReCharge pliers would have been too bulky.
and of course, there was a refreshing beverage that needed to be opened once I finished the project. :D
also, I really need to start remembering to take pics.

The most surprised I have been during this challenge is about how tough the Skelly is.
Short on the number of tools for sure, just the most used ones.
For example the driver on the Skelly is imo stronger then the one on the Wave. Very little to no flex when turing tough screws.

I agree with you on that. The right in the handle mount driver bids are much more solid that any folding design.
I think the skeletool also will handle sandy conditions better, there really arent many places sand can find its way in and hamper the functionality of the tool. But you probably have better conditions for testing this than me :D

Big day for Skele today.
Did tons of cutting. Some much that I had to sharpen it twice. Also did some screwing with it. (Hehehe)
Worked on an old auto scrubber, a light switch and put a new thermostat in a small hot water heater.

Really missing the can opener on my Surge right about now.
Yea, with a iron fist. I saw that video a while back.Really missing the can opener on my Surge right about now.
Have tried the carabiner, I saw something about using it as a opener.
Sak's rule !
Yeah forget it, I tried its a fail !Same, no luck. Ended up using the blade.

Skele helped me to work on "Single Kick" today.
HGuy, question for you.
Not sure what role you play at the front over there, but did the shining Skele ever become a problem on battlefield? Comparing to other BO tools.
Don't think it gonna be a straight swap.Same length but thinner, about the same shape. Someone please try and report back, I done my share of modding today.
I never a fan of those black bayonets and combat knives, I believe a shiny blade would put fear in my emenies, then half of the battle is won.
Today someone needed a knife so I threw my Skeletool quite a distance to them. I didn't realise at the time but the flat bit fell out and is now lost in the grass. I should have known that would happen.
No, mine was tight too. But when you throw the thing 30 metres and it opens up on impact and spins around for another few metres this sorta smurf is bound to happen. What do you expert? We want to see photo of the damages.
No damage at all - just a missing bit. :(Then photos to prove there are no damages! :twak:
Did I use it right
That would be awesome if it works. Faux cx doesn't sound too badDon't think it gonna be a straight swap.Same length but thinner, about the same shape. Someone please try and report back, I done my share of modding today.
I got a few strange looks when I told them about the challenge. Some people just don't understand... :D
....back to riding trains this week. :D
Is that a problem with the bit either in the holder or spare getting loose enough to just fall out?I had heard reports of it, but that never happen to me.

Things could get a lot worst when you launch the thing 30 meters away.
Cool, too late to join this challenge but you are welcome to be part of our discussion.
Cat duty today

Also I fixed the last bit for you.
I have Soldiers here giving me funny looks to. Also have some Soldiers coming to me and asking if I want to use the Skelly on stuff and take pictures lol.

How did you get the cat to stand still for the picture?

Wondered this myself, now that I'm in my 1/2 jean pant
A little bury this morning with the skeletool. Had a waterline leak. No biggie. Just cut up some wet ceiling tile.
Then it got a bath and got some air during break.
I would have been in on this challenge if I'd have got my mut earlierI've been there done that. Wife gets pissed for a day but the MT lasts a lifetime.
But was holding off because of a stern warning from my partner.anyway couldn't resist ,mut arrived today, had my telling off but I tell you what it was worth every bad word from her .The Mut is fantastic .

I have it bad!
Bought 2x skellys already and now looking for the best complimentary multitool to it.
Surge seems the winner as it uses the same bits and wont fight for pocket time, its the car/backpack tool while skelly is in the pocket.
Half way through the challenge, how is everyone's sanity holding up?
I have it bad!My hacked Micra team up with Skelly real nice and with not much overlap.

I have to use dedicated tools a lot more during this challenge. A ST or wave could handle must.Skelly is not designed to offer a lot of tools, rather it intent to cover the most frequently needed tasks and do them very well.

And ease of carry is also a important factor, because not everyone is into sheath carry a 8 oz MT on his belt. The best MT in world wont do you any good if you dont carry it.
Right here. I agree 100% it does have me thinking about a Mut. The Mut has never even crossed my mind til this challenge.I have to use dedicated tools a lot more during this challenge. Totally agree and it is solid for what it is ! I think it's a great urban or light carry edc but not my first choice for my work environment. That being said I really have no complaints about the skele.
Sak's rule !
Agree, get with a SAK (with saw) if going outdoor, Micra for urban carry.
For whatever functions Skelly has to offer, I don't think any SAK can do better.
Right here. I agree 100% it does have me thinking about a Mut. The Mut has never even crossed my mind til this challenge.
I am really missing the saw, file, can opener and a beefy set of wire cutters/pliers. And my folder or fixed blade.
I find it a little small, wish it had a saw, think I'll go for a mut.

Was just browsing this thread, and Kampfer almost asked the question I had in mind, so I tweaked it a bit ....That was probably questionable ever before we started the challenge... :facepalm:Half way through the challenge, how is everyone's sanity holding up?
Mut weights between st300 & surge, correct?

Yep but closer to the Surge, like just over an ounce lighter then the Surge.
IMO a lot of weight for what you get. Although I am a noob so what do I know?

After awhile it doesn't matter, I just want a new MT " I was going to say tool but knew you would run with that one " to play with.

Anyone dropped out yet? Or are people getting by by carrying additional tools to pick up on what the Skele can't do?

1. blade (Most comfortable grip in knife mode comparing to all other MTs)Same list for me.
2. bit driver (Very versatile)
3. bottle opener (Best in MT world)
4. pliers/wire cutters (Light duty)
Amazing little tool, it still looks brand new after three months EDC.
Yes I did.Amazing little tool, it still looks brand new after three months EDC.
Did you take the 154cm blade and put it in the stainless skeletool? Looks like it according to the pic. :)

I hope Leatherman is following this thread, this is real world testing gentleman!I know someone who is watching us closely. ;)

Breezy gave me a good idea, and it is a lot better than my idea. If I do happen to win, give my prize to Getahl. I am sure he could use a pick me up.

Have to use Alox Farmer's awl to do some modding on Sidekick Lite. :-[
I coach my older son's soccer team, and we had our end-of-season pizza party last night. I had gotten some stickers and soccer ball keychains for all the boys. since they're a bunch of 7 and 8 year old boys, the soccer balls were being thrown, bounced, etc., and a couple guys got upset when the ball broke off of the keychain. luckily, my Skelly was able to bend the attachment point back into place, and all tears were avoided. :tu: not to mention a couple of the other dads noticed the Skelly and were impressed enough to start asking questions about it... ;)Well done.
I may have even gotten a couple converts last night. most of the other dads work in an office setting (like me), and from the conversation last night, it was evident they thought of a MT as a bulky tool that required a sheath. they were impressed by how much function is packed into the sleek, easily pocketable Skeletool.I coach my older son's soccer team, and we had our end-of-season pizza party last night. Everyone in the world knows he/she would benefit from EDCing a MT, but yet very few people do, because general they think MT's are bulky and heavy to carry. I thought the same just a little over a year ago. But when I picked up a Wingman last year, I was shocked to learn that MT can be so easy to carry (pocket clip) and quick accessible (OHO blade). I was hooked ever since.
Yea you are right, there are some of those too, let's disregard them.Seems to be what I come across.
But the ones that find MT helpful but still not going to carry one, i think "bulk & weight" is the big factor.
I think it's more likely that they'd be completely clueless what to do with the tool even if they did have one :rofl:And a lot of this too.

G'Day,
Well today was a big day for the MUT. It rode pillion around Sydney region for a good 250 km (155 miles). Not as big ride as I wanted, but the Sydney holiday traffic was getting the better of me. Why people have to rush on holiday, and not make the travel part of the journey goes beyond me.
Light duties for the MUT today. Lunch duties and a few screws to tighten and off course posing. ;) Other than that lots of good scenery. I include some pics of the posing.
Cheers,
Pete
Bike pics or it didn't happen!

Thanks Kampfer,
Sorry to hear about your friend. I have gone through that as well and it is never nice, but it just re-focused me to try and be safe. I only travel by bike, the wife uses the car.
I am the same way Peter. Only drive my truck in the pouring rain or snow. 2005 Dyna with 46000 miles on it.

Luckily we don't get snow in Sydney. There is no ways I'll be on a bike in snow. Rain does not bother me, it is only water. But some idiots in cars seems to think aquaplaning is a sport everyone on the road should play.

This challenge is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
This challenge is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
So what's been the most challenging aspects for you?
I never understood the inclusion of peanut butter in sweet snacks, or combined with chocolate. To me peanut butter is something that belongs on toast and nowhere else. Actually, that's not true! I did once try a peanut butter, fried egg and melted cheese sandwich (on someone's recomendation) and it was actually really good. I have tried peanut butter based sweet stuff (like those reeses cup things) a few times before though, and it was just so WRONG! It's like roast beef with custard, or cheesecake with horseradish sauce :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
 Sorry, I forgot I wasn't allowed in this thread
:P
I can imagine. This challenge is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

lack of screwdriver and other tools. Plus the freestyle doesn't carry very well.

You would be surprised how few Soldiers carry any MT no less one I could scare with a MUT.
Honestly though not to bash your tool I do not think it is from me. If I am going to rock something that heavy it will be a Surge or ST 300. Just so many more tools on them. When I win this challenge due to my sheer awesomeness I will show you how to style with a ST 300 but good.

Pretty much everyone did when I was in, 12 years ago.
Sent from a device made from star dust using tapatalk
Because of the lack of screwdrivers on my freestyle I had to use my Dewalt to assemble some bed frames. Felt ashamed having a MT in my pocket and having to look for a screwdriver. Aaaasahhhhhh
No hole no problemI really miss the 93mm SAK awl for this ^. Sure the blade can do it, but it's almost as if the awl was made for punching holes...:)

That is interesting.
I would have thought that any soldier would want to carry at least a basic MT. Possibly the Leatherman marketing that makes us mere mortals think that each soldier should carry a MUT. I agree about weight and tool usefulness, for that weight I'll carry a Surge too. I have never really like the ST300.
Good luck with winning... I don't think you need the ST300 to show style, you have that already ;)
Pete
Most of those 26 years don't count- the MUT only came out a few years ago. I doubt too many guys would have been carrying it before then.

There is always one guy in the group who has to be a smart smurf. :twak:
You might have to cancel you MTO account by the way. It is against the user agreement to not like the ST 300. :twak:
So my perceptions may have been colored by the people who come to me all the time needing tools or my sample size is to small. Anyhow these are my informal small survey.
Out of the 7 Soldiers who work in the TOC.
3 have nothing.
2 with just a MT. Skelly :tu: and a Gerber Crucial he say he bought because it is small and he loves it. He had no idea what model it was until he pulled it out of his pocket and looked.
1 with just a knife. POS Gerber that I suspect is a knockoff copy.
1 with a MT and knife. OHT and a Tan Spyderco Native OEF he just won in the lottery. Says he did not use to carry a MT but bought the OHT for this deployment.

A lot comes down to the individual then. If a MT is out then at least a knife? Is that not part of the standard issue for a soldier? Then again, if you have a firearm, a MT is secondary...
Pete
I noticed Americans don't like bayonets.
They use to give out Gerber 600's with the Otis cleaning kits but have not for a couple of years. No official issue knife or MT.
Many years ago we use to have a bayonet we signed out from the arms room with our rifle. Not since the late 80's or early 90's though.
I noticed Americans don't like bayonets.
Yeah if it comes down to a bayonet charge we have failed on so many levels.

It is still useful for boosting morale, crowd control, guarding prisoners, etc. At least I think so.
Soviet / Russian soldiers always have bayonets with their AKs.
Trained with Soldiers from both Russia and Kazikstan before. They love some bayonets for sure...
Agree, MUT is too expensive and to 'fancy' for a standard US Army issue.
You'd probably be labeled as a poseur by another soldier next to you.
If you marketed something as for "Military Use" then there is a good chance that some civilians will rush to buy it.
Funny I heard that too from the military surplus store owner I got my 'US Army issue MP600' from, for peanuts. He basically told me his store is now full of them as they're an old stock overflow and the US army doesn't officially issue any MT's to it's troops due to budgetary cuts, anymore.Tell me more :pok:

Been a few days since I posted here, but Skeletool just been doing some cutting, wire snipping and turned a few nuts and bolts here a there. Nothing to major.
Being so close to the end I am struck by the fact I do not think anyone has dropped out due to the Skelly not being enough tool?I did wish to have scissors a couple times, but I got by using knife or wait until later. So for average person i think there are enough tools. But tradesmen like colt and Nate might needed something a bit more. Again, as trademen they should use dedicated tools on the job, using MT just for fun.

In my last post at page 38 can be seen that the carbon scraper is missing. That`s cause i wanted to give the MUT a bit more xmas touch and polished it. Now MUT is complete a few days again and i took some posing pic`s. Hope it holds it`s shine to the end odf the year.
Tried with hammer but it`s too messy. Now cracking some nuts with pliers like normal people are used to.

That looks very nice, what did you polish it with? I'm going to give that a go!
I found that the more shinier it gets the more fingerprints show :( Not good for OCD
Pete
Brass looks pretty brassy without cleaning it time to time. Fingerprints stay on it too good.

Which fine phillips? The one that comes with the Skelly or something you got from somewhere else?
One of the most important uses from my tools according to my spoiled daughter.
Yup, it is call No.1 :tu:

Healed, it was a deep cut.
Phillips #1, read the marking on your bits. You do have Skelly on you, right?

Looks like it healed nicely. :tu:
MTO first aid rules if you cut your self:
1. Get camera/phone and take a picture of it.
2. Dress the wound
3. Post pics on MTO
4. Consider going to the doctor if its deep.

As a EMT, Combat Lifesaver and Red Cross CPR trained person I agree with your statement Breezy.
Have a good evening pietervn and other fighters on the other side of earth. I say good morning cause it`s 11.00 am here.
Ok welcome to the coolest party on MTO as all the cool kids are here, along with a few haters. ;)
[...]I'm still contemplating if I should replace my folder with a Skelly to complement my CyberTool but this I find worrisome. I would have expected it to shine at that task.[...]
- This one really surprised me. When I eat an apple I always cut it up and de-core it with my SAK. The SAK blade cruises through the apple’s flesh. The Skelly really struggled – Well at least compared to the SAK. I think the concave blade and thick spine are the reason for this, possibly even the smoothness of the SAK blade. What a surprise, as I always thought of the Skelly blade, as more aggressive and sharp compared to a SAK blade!!

It did this all dayIf it doesn't do that well then it is useless.
It did this all dayIs there a way to get the clip to have more holding pressure.? Mine slips out a little too easily, way less pressure than a wave pocket clip, at least on this one. It fell out f my pocket in my truck earlier ???

Mine is loose like that also. Never had it fall out while wearing my pats but a few times it has while off.
Just take the clip off and bend it in some to make it tighter. Havenot done mine cause I am lazy and like I said only falls out when I am naked.

I have never had an issue with it falling out or not riding deep enough.
(I'm talking about the Skeletool by the way.)

Not hating ... honest ... but that was something I noticed on the Skele too, that and the fact it sits so high when clipped. For the wierdos that actually like the Skele (you strange people you :pok:) :P I wish the clip was deeper carry and/or you could put a long lanyard at the same end to do the belt loop paracord trick that so many folks do with SAKs for extra security ... but lanyards are most practical on the wrong end of the tool as it stands. Whilst the tool doesn't work for me at all, it would be nice to see better rentention for those that get along with it. The ride height was actually one of the many factors which made me prefer the Octane.
Maybe this would be a good time for Harley to quit talking and start doing :pok: and get his modding vibe going, and conjure up a solution to the problem :P
Congrats to all those who have lasted so long on this challenge BTW

Thank goodness! There are certain tools that should never have a lanyard attached :ahhh :ahhh
If you need to tie a piece of string to THAT to find it/get it out, then you have my deepest sympathies

Next time we might have to do this with a rock or something. Make it more of a challenge.

I don't think I possess a SAK or MT that cost less than $15
I don't know that I could commit to a single MT like that for a month though......

You know those movies about a guy and girl who really don't get along, hate each other in fact... then by the end of the movie they are madly in love?
I can't help but think of them whenever Al posts in here...

Skelly did well during the challenge but no matter how much you like green M&Ms sometimes you want to carry a SAK or Rebar or Wave or well you get the idea.
On the bright side Kampfer already has my address so that will save time when I win all the loots up in this smurf.
Well done everyone, I for one had a good time.

Harley wanted a real challenge. A $15 tool is too fancy for him though, so he is doing it with a rock. :D

I had fun carrying mine. I will continue to do so, but probably add a compact or Micra or something to supplement. I was lacking for scissors or a smaller driver at times.

A VIP agreed to draw out a winner after this challenge is completed.
I wish my real job was this easy. I used a random number generator and came up with "12". I hope that helps. It's easier than writing all the numbers on ping pong balls and drawing one.Quote from: KampferAs the challenge coming to completion, please draw out a winner from the list below. Thank you and we love the Skeletool you designed.
01 - Kampfer, Skeletool X
03 - Breezy12, Skeletool CX

I had fun, and hope to host more challenges in future, let's find out what else Al hates. :DI'm still expecting him to announce that he has now fallen in love with the Skeletool after so much denial.

Getahl,
First we are glad to hear your baby is doing better and full recovery is near.
Second, I am sorry to know you violated the rules of this challenge; and thank you for being honest.
Now you leave me with a difficult decision to make ; I like all challengers to help me out on making it.
I personally believe that the next winner drew out would still rather have me send the prize to you.
So let us hear from the challengers.
While I didn't participate in this challenge, I would agree with Kampfer's suggestion to give the prize to getahl :tu:
We can't risk another draw and Harley getting it.
I bet I'm on "The List" now (if I wasn't already).
but I can't accept the prize. We are not sending you a prize (you disqualified), but we are sending you a gift.

Hmm I guess my record keeping has not been so good as far as The List goes. All I know for sure is Monrogue is at the top with a bullet. :twak:
Carabineer: It is the most iconic feature of the entire Skeletool family, however I have not found any practical uses for Skeletool’s Carabineer, but it does perform very well as a cap lifter.
Good manThanks fire the well wishes, all.
No worries, Huntsman. There's an episode, and someone please correct me if I'm remembering incorrectly, where Homer is being targeted by a hitman. He's at a car dealership talking to a salesman when they start shooting at him, hitting the hood of the cat instead. The salesman says they're speed holes! Later, he's in his garage, hitting his purple station wagon with a pickaxe when Flanders wanders in and asks what he's doing; adding speed holes to his car, of course!
I'm sure it loses something when trying to describe it. Heck I probably got out mostly wrong.
Honestly, can't remember. I'm trying to remember details of the episode and I can't help but think of the early Family Guy ep with Fat Pauly. No worries, Huntsman. Judging by his early posts, someone who doesn't know a great deal about the Skeletool ... even though in his last post he appears to be the creator of the tool. Glad to see I'm not the only one who is confused

Loving my s30v so much I jumped when this sprint run was offered to me by a friend.
Let's face it, a lot of the Skele's attraction is due to it's looks.I agree! It is second kind of cool, according to Nutnfancy.
Skeletool's biggest weakness is its driver mode, after 4~5 long wood screws, the driver became awkward to use.I now carry a long MUT bit to address this issue.
I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve as I sit here planning what I will carry tomorrow.
