Hey everybody! Just wanted to give a formal greeting as I just joined a couple days ago. Also I'm looking at getting a new edc SAK and was looking at either a Small Tinker or Wenger Highlander, both are compact and have tons of utility. Really just looking for a solid 2 layer for everyday use and abuse. Any thoughts or suggestions? :D

I think most will agree the small Tinker will hold up a little better, both great though. I have both. :D
Also, can't go wrong with a Pioneer/Soldier or Spartan/Tourist for a no nonsense 2 layer with tons of ability. Compact is also highly recommended but geared more for urban EDC.

All seem like good suggestions! The reason I'm still kind of debating is because I just recently bought my first Wenger (Swiss Sportsman) more for collecting purposes and to carry on the weekends as a light duty SAK. So I'm kind of starting to like these old Wengers, BUT Vics also seem to be built a little sturdier too, what to do? :ahhh Also, here's a pic of my first Wenger

The Tourist and Sportsman look pretty cool too!
-
Some of the Wenger designs live on as the Vic Delmont Series.

You Wenger looks great. I can highly suggest the 84mm Tinker. I love the size and simplicity of it.

Thank you! I'll take another look at the Small Tinker. Seems highly recommended around here. :tu:

Get a Soldier '61... its the quintessential Swiss Army Knife.
-
Or you could go for a 111mm Picknicker/Nomad/Centurion/Adventurer... just like a Spartan or a Tinker on steroids, but super slim and sturdy. The big blade makes a huge difference if you're trying to make a salad!

Trying to figure out your EDC can be tricky.
You have to think of what implements you want with you each day. This sometimes makes a person look into 3 or 4 layer SAKs.
If you decide to go wider, I think an Explorer has quite a few tools that would come in handy and the Explorer is still in production.
Good luck with your decision.

In the sprint of MTO you should get both! If not you'll miss out on either Wenger Wed. or Tinker Tue. After that you're going to need a Climber, Camper, Farmer, Soldier and a Swisschamp should get you off to a good start.
Welcome to MTO.

:ahhh My collection is so incomplete! Thanks for the welcome :D

Another to consider if you like the Wenger scissors is the Victorinox Evogrip S17.

it's sad, and funny, and true.
You'll need a Huntsman too...

Sad and True. I tried to keep it simple for you. I'm looking at a Farmer and Explorer Plus sitting right next to my 84mm Tinker . There are just so many great SAKs and choosing one to be the ONE is hard, at least for me.

My first Swiss Army Knife was a Tinker. It wasn't too long after I got the Small Tinker. It's a great knife.

Lets see... My current collection is:
*Deluxe Tinker
*Hiker
*Vic S101
*Vic Evo 11
*Rambler 58mm
*Wenger Swiss Sportsman.
I know the S101 and the Evo grip 11 should be a perfect fit for me but I just don't like the Evo series...I think classics are much better made and cooler looking!
