Title: Hubeo Pocket Tool
Post by: WH867 on May 15, 2009, 03:51:53 AM
My latest addition.  Showed up today.     I gave it a good scrub but tried not to remove any petina.  This is a really solid feeling tool that other than the wire cutters does'nt look to have seen much use.  Seems very well built and still ready to work.  Its slightly smaller than a Sog toolclip but is slightly heavier.

That is a cool looking tool...it looks like the grandfather of the Toolclip!

If only Bob wasn't so tied up in Springtime home projects,he'd probably be able to give a run-down of it's lineage. My thoughts are that it's 1950's vintage. No matter it's age,I like it.

And actually a better tool selection than the Toolclip since it has a phillips.    Also 2 different wire cutters.

Isn't that about the time Phillips head screws started being widely used?  Or was it the 1960's?

Nice one Dennis :tu:  There aren't many of these old beauties around any more. They are the best pre-Leatherman multitool in my opinion. :salute:

Made in Solingen Germany by Hugo Berns, sometime in the early 60's

You really have to wonder why it didn't catch on in a big way. Was it too "exotic"?

Heh-heh, I wish! :D
Mine is in pretty decent shape though. Keep in mind these were made before the widespread availability of stainless steel. To resist corrosion, all of the outer surfaces were nickel plated. Nickel plating eventually flakes off, more so on tools that were carried and used a lot.

Here's mine (in the middle, sandwiched between a Hi-Test tool (made in Japan, top) and a Seaboard Steel tool (made in France, bottom)

I like how the handle curves around the body instead of sticking out like toolclip.

Bob I really like the group shot  :salute: . I really need to look at the pre Leatherman section of the encyclopedia , then again given my recent buying spree  ::) ::) maybe I need to keep well away from it. :D
