A mate of mine told me he had an old pen knife, and did I want it ???
What do you think :D
Well long story short the pen knife had lived a hard life buried in the bottom of my mates work bag :(, trouble is said mate is a painter and decorater, so the knife was absolutely covered in gunk, and refused to open

Ah but this is a quality Vic product, so with a quick blast of industrial grade WD40, it loosened up enough to be able to get the tools out :)

I've still got to clean it up, but from what I can make out, it's either a Vic 84mm waiter, or Golfer :D
I'll post more pics once it's done :)

Great result that one. :)
-
That is a great attribute of SAKs. Very few are beyond some kind of usefullness (with a little elbow grease)
-
Thats exactly what I mean, if it had been from a 'lesser' company I may as well have just thrown it away, fortunatly it's a Vic, so it can leave out it's golden years with me :D
-
Nice work! Amazing how easy it was to rescusitate. The "before photos" looked pretty bad, but it now looks like it will clean up quite nicely.
Any idea of how long your friend had been using it?
-
Well his dad gave it to him years ago, and it's been buried in his tool bag for at least 10 years he reckons :o
-
It looks like an 84mm Waiter, handy little minimalist knife.
Good job cleaning it up. I always have a special affection for SAK's I have restored. I get a bit of a "glow" when I use them

Man all you brits have a thing for wooden posts, poor guys keep getting stabbed with knives and multi... :pok:
-
if it could only talk, the stories it would tell; "their was this one old bag..." :D
you are all so right, even used and abused they still are useful tools (or can be).
-
Thats why i like SAKs whatever you throw at them they won't cry.

Well it's all cleaned and oiled now, I'll try and get some pics up tommorow :)
-
Nice to see ppl clean up old tools like that :salute: I buy old mason tools on Ebay old brick hammers and such :) I love to clean them up and rehandle if need be and get them ready to be put back in use  It is like Steel Blade said about the SAKs if you clean something like that up and bring it bakc to usefulness you feel a certain different pride for it :D Good on you mate :salute: ::) :D
-
if you clean something like that up and bring it bakc to usefulness you feel a certain different pride for it
Absolutely. And not just with SAKs - it works with people too...

soon youll be havin another oldie there,it aint as worns or smutty as yours is but i think you have to give it abit of copper or bronze brush and shot of some cleansing spray.
it was mine for over twenty years so dont u go and loose it mate :D
-
Well I've cleaned all the dirt and grease of off it, it's still battered and scared, but defiant with it :)

It should make a good beather if nothing else :)
Interestingly it has a very fine grove in the corkscrew, a lot fainter than I've seen in other saks

What is wrong with posts? It makes a change from sawn off tree trunks :D
Bob
Just saw your new pics, Micky. You have certainly brought it back from the dead, nice restoration, bet you will be carrying that for a while.

Nice and clean :D
Tricky to tell colours accurately but it looks to be a bit brighter red than most Vics. I've got a couple of older economy models that came in what's sometimes called fire red.

It's really hard to believe that is the same SAK as in the first pictures. You really got into every nook and cranny of the liners too. Great work!
Did you use any special tricks, or was it just the usual arsenal of cleansers plus lots of elbow grease and time?
-
Looks real good buddy. :)
Great pics as well.
