In a mere 24 hours (or so) the forum will be forever altered to a new theme- and this is not simply for aesthetics! The new forum is reactive, which means no more need for Tapatalk or a stripped down mobile version! The forum will automatically reformat itself to whatever device you are using, and you will have all the options available on your tablet or phone that you would have on a desktop or laptop!
Even better, this is just an update to the theme of the forum, which means we will still be using the same software we have been using for years, just with a new, more functional coat of paint on the whole thing! All the photos, the function, the history, everything will be the same as it was before, just look better, load faster and work better all around!
The fine folks at Leatherman have offered to help us with this change by giving us a special Multitool.org Edition Coyote Tan OHT to give away!

We will continue to support Tapatalk for those people that prefer it.
I liked it a lot in the old days, but as they started adding features and other strangeness it became less and less user friendly so I gave up on it. I hear it has gotten better again, but I see no reason to go back to it. Of course, that's just my opinion and if you prefer Tapatalk then by all means use what you like!
A forum would be a very boring place indeed if everyone agreed on everything!

That's another good way to do it. For non detailed photos (like the bottle opener challenge ones) I just take the photo at minimum resolution on my phone (2.1 megapixels, 1920x1080) and attach them directly to the post since they are small enough files already. That might be the easiest way.

If you have an Android, try using AVG Image Shrinker. It's what I use. I'll use it to shrink the photo, then I upload it to Dropbox and attach it to the forum from there.
If you have an iPhone I can't help you because I know nothing about them. :D

I just change the size in settings on my camera before I take MT pics, that way they save smaller and upload quicker, I upload them in the Photobucket app and then can go to either the website on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop to get the link code for it to put on the forum :cheers:

The post counts are still there- just to save bandwidth and space they are hidden by default. Click on a user's icon and all the info comes up.

That is actually a totally separate problem.
Most forums purge attachments after a set amount of time in order to keep their databases from becoming unweildly. Since much of our info is not available anywhere else I have always been against doing that, and as a result, our database is HUGE. Like, Micah complains to me about it on a regular basis kind of huge because it is a pain in the bum to manage.
To combat this we have set limits on the size and number of uploads. As a consolation to that I have also started a gallery that stores images differently and offered free accounts to anyone who wanted to use it. :pok:

I know, and I really do understand the incredible amount of work that would have been put into this new setup. I'm just one person that happens to be VERY stuck in my ways with somethings. I say, as long as the majority like it, that's all that matters. Switching to a newer, faster setup is the right way to go, and I applaud you and the others involved for making the switch. The Like button and the photo resizing were both modules that are not compatible with our new theme. It's possible in the future we may be able to find replacements, but for now they are indeed gone.

I appreciate it's a free to use site and a lot of hours & hard work have gone into this for our benefit, but if it's no longer so easy to just see at a glance what is happening on each forum from the main page, I'm not sure I'll be able to check in as often.
Ps, there probably is a way to see all the most recent posts displayed and I just haven't found it yet.

And now that I've read some people's comments, we will need to do something about the photo resize thing. There are forums I go to that are nigh on usable if some dumb slob posts a huge photo because it doesn't rescale, while others force everything to be itty bitty and useless for anything with more detail than hello kitty. Is there any way all we can get a comperable function for the new look?

I didn't realize your IP was showing. Mods and Admins have always been able to see member IP's, so that is something that never occurred to me. I'll get Micah on that ASAP.

The trick is knowing when to stop.
I've visited quite a few forums over the years. Yet for some reason the ease at MT"o was soothing in comparison.... like coming home.
Way way too much white, had to reduce my brightness down to minimum first thing this morning...Arrrgh, My EYES! :ahhh
And the whole look has no resemblance of old. I don't doubt the huge amount of work that must have gone into bringing this. But I think it's lost a lot of its character.

I hate to say it, but I also very much dislike the new look. I have visited other forums in the past with a similar look and hate it so much I usually never return. I agree with all in bold in the quote. It was basically what I was thinking. Another issue is now I have the same look on my tablet. I used to view the entire site on my Ipad, but now am stuck with this. The white is terrible and makes me not even want to be on MTO because it makes my eyes hurt looking at the screen. I just do not like a single aspect of the new look. I feel terrible saying it as i'm sure yourself and others have worked very hard on this. Please do not take it as me bad mouthing the forum. Its just my personal opinion on it. I'm probably in the minority on this one,
Is there no possible way to view it in its old form?

Our old theme was heavily out of date. Some features weren't going to be supported anymore.
As much as we love the same old, same old- it had to be done.
I really appreciate all of the hard work Micah has put in to this so we can keep on going for another decade. Remember that your fellow MTO members and friends are volunteering their time to make this work for all of us. It's a big job and it takes time to get it right.
I can see that Micah has changed the background colour to the same grey tone we had before. I like that change too! Nice and easy on the eyes.
I also noticed that this new theme is super fast and isn't using as much data as before on my devices. That's a really nice change.
Over the coming days I'm sure we will see lots of little tweaks based on all of our constructive feedback.
A few things have changed places and not all of us are tech inclined. I get that changes like that take a day or two for us to adjust! :ahhh
Don't forget that our Mods are here if you have any questions. Feel free to send any a PM if you have a question about anything.
This is like breaking in a new pair of boots. They fit differently than your favourite pair at first, but give them a bit of time and you'll break them in- and then they'll be super comfortable.
The forum may look a little aesthetically different- but it's the same forum. The same topics. The same people.

The thing I had noticed and one of the aspect that was so great about the old theme was that the posts alternated from white to light grey, so did the quotes. So it was very easy and quick to navigate and visually separate between posts from one to the other, made it all very easy to scan and read through.Yes, this was my other issue that I couldn't remember when I commented. like button was really useful not to clutter threads with "+1, like, thanks" and so, but still showing approval easily...
i don't think the "like count" under profile meant much, but the like count on liked posts was nice and useful :pok:

Ditched Tapatalk last night. Zoomed links and numbers are working better. Tabbing to a new link is iffy still, as when taping and holding a link there's no indication in the CSS script to show if a link was pressed or if its empty space... using Firefox phone browser.
Have yet to create a new post on phone. Been either busy or in pain from recent toof issue.
Can I say I do miss the old forum for desktop, but like the newer version for other electronic devices without being :pommel: ?

I agree, it started to get really bad for a while! Some of the bloat is now gone and it's gone through a huge redesign which made it much easier to use. That being said, it sounds like you're getting by fine without it!I really like using Tapatalk, but you have to love a website with responsive design!! I can't wait to see what it looks like!

We will continue to support Tapatalk for those people that prefer it.
I liked it a lot in the old days, but as they started adding features and other strangeness it became less and less user friendly so I gave up on it. I hear it has gotten better again, but I see no reason to go back to it. Of course, that's just my opinion and if you prefer Tapatalk then by all means use what you like!

If the old mobile version was much better than why does the new theme make the mobile surfing quite pleasant? Would it not of been more pleasant on the old mobile version as it is "much better"?

Now see, to an Englishman that makes perfect sense and whilst probably incorrect to grammatical purists would be quite acceptable to your average Brit. Simply read "as" as "that".
A pretty common thing over here I'd say.

My understanding is that to your average brit,
"Bag" means "Fine clothes suitable for formal occasions"
"apples" means "series of small platforms suitable for ascending or descending levels of a building"

"apples" I know about - that's from cockney rhyming slang - as in "apples and pears" = "stairs". So that would be local to a few blocks in East London only.
