A friend of my daughter went to Switzerland for holiday and brought me this knife back ---What a beauty ---- unfortunately its sold in only a plastic holder with no Item no. or info, so whether its sold as a commemorative peace for tourist to the Lion Monument or some special anniversary edition I don't know.

That's one great looking knife. :salute:

How cool a knife!

Mark Twain called this sculpture “the most
mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.”

Yes it really is an impressive work of art, carved out of a rock face, its the emotion in the Lions face that really captures you ---- well that's my arty farty comment of the day :D if anybody is interested, it was bought at Harry's Swiss Watch Center --- Pfistergasse 5 Lucerne
-
The company that did that offers 50 or 60 other handles also. I've managed to pick up a couple, but have never found a mail-order source for them. SwissBianco at one time was trying to work a deal with them but it fell through.

Thanks for that info Karl so the scales are not made by Vic, thats probably why it has no item no. or any other info.I'll mark it as a "Souvenir Spartan"
-
Here are a couple more knives with that style of handle, from a European site.

Beautiful

I have the same knife and have to admit when I saw it in the shop I was expecting it to be a bit of a tourist piece ( which it is :) ) but the scales are very well done and really add something to the knife.
You see them in most of the gift shops in Switzerland with loads of different scales .... but the lion is great ..... damn sad but great :)

Cannot wait to see it in person now. :mail:
I'll post photos when it arrives.

From the SAK Owner's Manual -
This sculpture viewed across a quiet pond in a small park in Lucerne is truly a powerfully sad monument to courage in the face of death. There is a story and a history, and now a beautiful knife. There were the soldiers, their sacrifice for their brothers, and one aspect of what it is to be Swiss, to be human ...
-
It's a very nice piece of sculpture, but one point maybe needs to be mentioned. The troops in question were mercenaries working for a French king who didn't trust his own troops to protect him from his own people.

That's the one, though I'd prefer the partly gold-plated one. Do you know of a source?
Thanks,

That's a gorgeous knife! How can we get our hands on one over here in the USA? I would love to get the whole set with those scales. Really beautiful!

I'll try to find a source here in Switzerland for those bicolor knives. I'll let you know next week if I could find it.

Just in. Went for the all-steel version of the Lion of Luzern because I thought it looked more like the sculpture. The Kapellbrucke (Chapel Bridge) in Luzern shows up on a lot of SAKs.

I got in contact with a dealer in Switzerland about these knives. He has some of those knives on stock. I hope he will answer soon ::) and give me a postive feedback to my questions.
I'll keep you updated.
So stay tuned...

In this case, that's a plus because I feel less guilt keeping it as a shelf queen, and it works if you decide to use it at a 5 star resturant just for fun. :D
