Are we all ready for this :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
-
If you've definitely got a tent then yes I am. :D
Can't wait. :tu:
-
I have to admit I'm not ready in the slightest. In my defence I've got my daughters birthday this weekend and then a three night camping/walking trip the weekend after. Assuming I survive that then I'll have time to think about it.
Is it really only four weeks away? :ahhh

Well it would give us time for more polls :D

Why not?

Well..... funds are a smallish issue, but more so is the fact that when I casually dropped it in to conversation with the wife last night she asked "are their girlfriends or wives coming?"
I assumed the answer was a fairly firm no?! This made her concerned that a bunch of strange men might whisk me away in to the night never to return (not sure why that's a bad thing), and I don't think she liked the idea very much ::)
I think I would like to meet you chaps as this is a great forum. Maybe next year... knowing my luck it will be hundreds of bloody miles away then!

Don't believe him.....I have seen his collection.
Although the fact we meet on MOD property rented by the police might persuade her....don't worry you can stop for the BBQ and then go home. Spending the night is not obligatory.....especially after Dunc called to the Whales last time :D
-
I have not bought a tent yet. but i think i have every thing else, but just to make sure.
i wonder what everyone else is bringing to the meet. (a part from a few tools) :D
phil
-
- Tent (not yet bought)
- Food / cooking equipment (not yet bought)
- Some tools
- Umbrella.
That should cover it :D

Umbrella...good thinking..if we all take one the sun is bound to shine .

I've heard tell of Neils collection - he's even spared a little piece of it for me :D
As regards to the whalesong, would that be from the top end or the tradesmans entrance? This could be a deciding factor!

We aren't sure.....however I know there was a tsunami in Dudley off the back of his "ruminations"
-
And then there was the radioactive (well glow it glowed in the dark at any rate) discharge. Poor fish. I beieve he's still on the run from Greenpeace :P
Neil

Oh my, was the earthquake his fault too? Some friends of mine would like to speak to him regarding some chinaware they lost that dreadful night.... oh, the horror....

I've got it you need a pole so you know what 2 bring :D
I hope you guys have a smashing great time ;) :tu:

Put it this way, after his toxic moon dance, the campsite we went to last year has been cordened off for at least the next hundred years until the ground radiation reaches level's survivable by normal human beings :o

Umbrella...good thinking..if we all take one the sun is bound to shine .
I'd best leave my sunshine shirt at hope then :D
-
OK, I'm in the verge of convincing my girl to come with me to the meet!
Now I need to know a couple of things:
Could we bring our campervan (with the easier option of staying)?
Can I bring my 2 dogs (who can be chained up no probs)?
And most importantly will there be a fire?!
-

Flash is the one who can answer that (he arranged the venue).
I'm allergic to dogs but that's not a problem unless I'm in close proximity. Or unless their the type to do the sorrowful look until you fuss them, then I become weak, do the fuss thing, come up in hives and its all downhill from then on :ahhh :D
Neil
-
My packing list consists of:
SAKs
Multis
Axes
Sabre
tent
sleeping bag
paracord
more knives+torches
folding chairs
dog tags
I may have to work on the food and drink part. There will be drink right? :ahhh
If others do want to come then I can still organise dog tags for them. They only take a couple of days to be delivered.
-
I'm bringing Mike as I am hoping he has everything I need. :o :D

Caveat: Camera is a must and posting of images to MT.org required.

Nuphoria,
I am sorry but I have bad news on 2 counts....
1. No dogs allowed.....mainly due to the fact the RAF base use our land at weekends to accommodate the RAF Pony club (I swear this is true) and they are worried that dogs may worry them.
2. All private vehicles have to be left in the hanger overnight (none allowed outside due to bomb threat etc), and due to whats in there no one can stay in a vehicle overnight inside the hanger.
However, you and your significant other are MOST welcome at the meet. I completely understand if you cant come however its only a short jaunt from Brum and if you only came for a few hours you will see us ugly buggers in the flesh, along with our collections.
Once again, apoligies for points 1 and 2. :-[
-
You in Brum Nuphoria? I didn't realise that.
Come for the day at least - it's only an hour or two from Brum.

Dude,

:o What is that place?! ???
Are you sure they won't search you on entry and strip you off of any sharp/pointy objects? :P :D
Honestly now, I'm so jealous. I wish there were a GR meet as well, but I guess multitoolers are not quite in abundance here... :-\ :(

A38 out of Brum, M6, M54, A41 3 right turns then a left and your there :tu:

I was hoping to come along, but sadly money and time are tight. I'd really like to have come along so hopefully next time :( :)

Yeah I've been there a few times, but from a bit further North. Neil and I will be coming along the A5, straight onto the M54 I reckon.
I'm off to buy a tent in the morning, and I'm starting to look forward to it now.

Too bad mate :(
But there's always next time :tu:

OK, we could still come sans mutts for the afternoon. I shall confer with m'lady... can't see why not though :D Would we be able to park up for a while and set off without having the bomb squad search and seize the vehicle on the way out?!
Thanks Flash - can you PM the details please - time, place etc?
(and yes, I'm in Brum.. south, so takes a little longer but not a prob.)
And this is the terror you will be missing:

Cool.....parking up wont be a problem....its only of the night time that we will all have to "hide" our vehicles.
PM in bound
-
(and yes, I'm in Brum.. south, so takes a little longer but not a prob.)
My office is in Martson Green, right next to "the Wood" but other than that I don't venture South too often. I grew up mostly in Cannock, so never really had much cause to go "past" the city centre, if you see what I mean.
Hop you can make it anyway - the more the merrier :tu:

It's official, the girls are coming!
Please do not feel the need to moderate language or anything else that you would comfortably do in a men only environment. We are not delicate flowers ;)
I'm really looking forward to meeting you and eyeing up all your shiny lovelyness... tools to I guess
What's the dogtag thing about? Should I send some cash to someone?

So, has anyone ever pulled teeth with a MT? Just curious. If yes, do you have pictures?
Neil
-
I tried to pull a tooth with pliers once, gave up and tried the tying string round it to a door knob trick. After slamming the door and it not working (just hurting like a b*stard), I decided to leave the bloody thing alone and let it fall out naturally.
I must add, I think I was about 11 at the time and the tooth in question was a milk tooth!
-
Don't get me wrong. I'm a great believer in local anaesthetic and have a nice dentist for that kind of minor surgery. Just wondered if anyone was nutty enough to have had a go :D
Neil
-
I am a recovering dentalphobic. Believe me, my childhood dentist didn't believe in anaesthetics or bedside manner - pliers were the soft option!
So yeah, I was crazy enough to have tried it :D
When I grew up I got a medical science degree so I'm even more dangerous - anyone need any adjustments doing? :climber:

I can understand, as a lad I had a similar dentist, "don't think we'll bother with aesthetic for this one lad" :ahhh. My present one is a good bloke though.
Slightly dodgy knee joints, buggered up cartilage around my sternum and hell of a squint in the right eye... think you can fix them up with MT and a couple of SAKs ;)
Neil
-
HA! Christ I wish... my joints are knackered. The GF is considering sending me to the glue farm.
Perhaps that's part of our obsession with tools - fix the things we can control eh?

Chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid (Cosamin or the cheaper equine version, Cosequine) is supposed to be good.
Recently read that leech therapy (yup leech) is supposed to give months of relief from a single "leeching".
No joke.

Does walking round in lakes and getting loads of the little buggers attached count ???
Seriously thanks :tu:
I've probably mucked up my chest again this afternoon, sifting the compost bins and carrying bags of sand round for the new vegetable patch ::) Still, means I can have fresh salad from June onwards :D

Most likely, :pok: though I find that kind of talk just a little too profound for a pleasant Saturday afternoon when I haven't had a drink ;)

I too have just allotmented myself... hip joint not pleased but we have the first of many raised beds in place :D
I take 1500mg of glucosamine a day - it might be helping, no idea to be honest!

Did the raised bed last weekend. Looks a bit rough as its made from an old pallet but should do the job. I take many mg of caffeine each day. Pretty certain that helps
Neil
-
For what it's worth I'm in the same boat ::)
I've got a load of scar tissue over my sturnum that plays up when ever I lift more than 35-40 kg, or when I'm tired, and as I'm a bloody insomniac, that's all the bloody time :(
Then there's my sodding foot >:(
Oh well I'm only 32, so I've got a lot longer to enjoy these flaws :D
-
Anyone going that isn't physically knackered in some way? As I said somewhere else I've got dodge knees. Although by the sound of it I'm not as badly off as some here. :-\

Ha ha... yeah, I had to give up caffeine years ago so rely purely on bloody-minded determination and stupidity now.
So, everyone else is scuppered too then?! Good, I will fit in just fine ::)

You boys are so wicked to each other.... it must be love :D
Now then - serious subject here - pay attention 007!
I want to get a Spirit for my birthday (the Swisstool kind, not the overproof rum flavour). Happily, my birthday is a week or so after our meet up so I'd thought I'd try this option for tracking one down: do any of you chaps have one you care to sell at the meet? :pok:
I'm after one with scissors, with or without sheath, ratchet etc. Tim can send one over for about £46 so anything less than that would be splendid. My OH is buying it so it's my job to track a good deal down.
Thank you kindly

Well I got a tent, and it's the smallest tent I've ever seen. It may actually turn out to be a bit too small, but meh.
I also bought a Multimat: ??? http://www.multimat.uk.com/product.asp?Ref=10&Label=&Nav=1&ProductRef=38 and a sleeping bag.
Just the cooking stuff to sort now.
-
I don't know. I turn my back for one evening and what do we get? Smut, that's what we get. :twak:
Why am I always late to the party?

I have a similar self inflatable mat and I have to say it was fairly hard. I think it's about 5cm thick but definately not soft enough for my butt! I think they are a great idea, just not for those who want squishy.
-
I got a Gelert solo in the end. The fact that it folds up into something about the size of a Surge swayed me :P
-
But the Surge is still heavier, right? ::)
-
Only just, I reckon.

Thanks for the advice. :D
I suppose not knowing anything about them put me off as well.

I had a little gat gun when I was a youth. I think that was enough to put me off air guns, pathetic it was.

Well I'll bring the little target box along and we can plink a bit. I find it very therapeutic tbh.

Much too much a gentleman to say anything about that.I'm certain others will be along that have fewer inhibitions than I.

Ooh, you'll make me blush dear!
If today's anything to go by it will be combats and a t-shirt I'm afraid. No airy fairy frocks in MY wardrobe!

Comfortable,practical and pragmatic.Great combination :tu:

Can we choose multiple options or just one?

You can choose the colour of the t-shirt (please note, flimsy, white & soaked through will not be an option).

Well I got my cookin' stuff sorted. I went with a Trangia contraption in the end, and a kettle. Cost about a third of the Jetboil configuration I was considering - so I'm pretty pleased overall.
I cooked my lunch on it today and it will do just fine in the field :tu:
I am currently gathering cooking type bits and bobs and trying to find the optimum way to package them up, but it should be downhill all the way now.
Quite a relief actually, I was taking far too much time over this decision :D
-
What kind of grub are you guys taking? Are there any traditional camp foods or dishes besides Pot Noodles? :P
-
Bacon.
-
Maybe they need to do a poll on it :D
-
Bacon grilled over coals...yum
-

Good question  chili maybe? Couscous is always easy to prepare as well. Bacon for breakfast sounds like a must.
-
Pot noodle and Soup here :D
Although I might see if I can get a Brit Army Rat Pack cheapish :)
-
Various Pot noodles and soup here too. :D Oh and bread of course.
-
I just thought, it has to be in a can, or else what are all the SAKs for?
-
I just thought, it has to be in a can, or else what are all the SAKs for?
That's a very good point :D
-
I've been giving this matter some serious thought actually.
Bacon
Tinned Soups / Spaghetti / Ravioli type stuff
Bread
Beer
Crisps
Mars Bars
Cofee
Meths
Should get me through I reckon.
-
I'm not sure I'd list the meths amongst the food stuffs, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. ;)
-
... and that would certainly float your boat.

Mmmmm Bacon.
-
I was going to take Porage oats.....but i can just picture someone in the tent next to me cooking, bacon eggs. sausages beans tomatoes.
so cooked breakfast it is :P
-
Hope you guys manage to keep your meat cold enough for all that time, otherwise you'll be getting more than you expected from that cooked breakfast. :D

The food hygiene trained staff inside me (that doesn't sound good :o) has just passed out. :D I was taught that meat etc should be stored below 5 degrees C at all times apart from when it is transported from the shop to your house when it should be out for a maximum of 20mins. Now don't get me wrong, I have of course gone beyond these scales and survived, but the thought of meats in a cool box or bag over night just doesn't sound too appealing to me. I think I'll stick to a curry flavoured Pot noodle for Breakfast. :D

Given the choice between the pot noodle and the cooked breakfast, I'll take my chances on the cooked breakfast. It least there is only a chance it'll make me feel sick.

Ok as it's breakfast I'll make it a chicken and mushroom one. :D

That I can't pass judgement on. I do know that the Chicken and Mushroom has to be of the worst smelling "foods" ::) I have ever come across. The very idea of actually eating it makes my stomach crawl.

so thats 3 for a cooked breakfast,,, :D
and 1 for a pot noodle............. :(

That's just for people who are frightened of getting sued. Obviously if you leave the stuff out in the open, you're asking for trouble, but sealed, in a coolbox in the car overnight will be absolutely fine. Always has been.
Dunno why but your post made me think of this:

Here's my keyring from a little while ago - the key has been bent to be as wide as a pound coin and I opened up the slot a bit then ground the end off too for tidier carry.
If you push it in to the trolley slot until it wedges where the pound would go, you can then release the chain bit from the lock. Then you twist your key to the side a bit and pull it out :)

Like Neil said, very slowly :D
I had to cut down an old dog wood tree 2 weeks ago, and for the most part I used the 111mm saw mod Neil made me, as the tree was surrounded by a brick wall on 2 sides, so access was tight to say the least ::)

OK, now I understand :) An inspired modification but wouldn't it be easier to have one of those little tokens on your keyring? Ignore me, just playing devil's advocate. >:D
I don't carry mine as I work on the premise that if I find myself needing a supermarket trolley then something has gone seriously amiss :ahhh Oh, and the fact that it has Winnie and Tigger on it :-[

Yes, but then I'd have to take it back! It probably weighs less and take up less room on my keys anyway, leaving room for other shiny goodness :)
