Yes, I do "get it" but no, I don't like it. Sure, it's simple, but sometimes a logo can be too simple.
I'm not saying this just because I like the older stuff. I actually don't like the logo that's on my original Super Tool ballistic nylon sheath as much as the upright, open, yellow PST in a circle...the one embossed in every Leatherman Rebar leather sheath - that one I like. Then again...that one looks kind if like a W...so what do I know.
Sometimes companies don't even use these trademarks they apply for. They sometimes do it to block other companies from using something that's too similar or that could be used in a similar way.
Sort of like the way The North Face went after that father and son team that started an out door sportswear company called The South Butt?
Let's hope this simple ugly thing is for some reason like that

If we look at the old logos we probably wouldn't have liked them when they first came out.
It's like music - a lot of people don't like new music but the radio stations force it upon you enough that it becomes familiar and you end up liking it (whether you wanted to or not).

Anyway, LM needs customers that buy new tools, not those that are happy with the ones they have. Unsurprisingly they are moving in the EDC market, away from the handymen. Why? Simple! EDC crowd is more willing to spend, and less hard on the tools. Also, most craftsmen prefer dedicated tools, and the EDC market is far larger. So, for LM its a win-win-win.

The old one is too delicate and only really works when LEATHERMAN is written beside it.
This one is simple and bold. The 'L' helps with name recognition (much like the McDonalds Golden Arches 'M').

I'm not sure what to think about this logo. I could see it as a secondary logo (for things like sheath snaps and on the plier head, but that's it. I feel whatever dough went to marketing and/or an ad agency for its creation should have been spent on a completely new and revolutionary design Maybe we'll still get those this year. Can't wait until what SHOT reveals.

Whats wrong with this logo?It looks more like the batman signal than the Leatherman Signal.

Not really. Since I know I'm looking at a Leatherman logo, I make out the shape of multitool. If I walked by this 2 months ago, no part of me would say Leatherman or multitool.

The other two logos are not very good in my opinion, either as an example of graphic design or being iconic, they're not anything special.

The Victorinox logo is an icon. Most people saw the Victorinox logo at the same time as the product so they are synonymous with each other.I guess Leatherman are hoping their new logo will fare the same.
I think using the "L" is a good idea, you know it is a name beginning with L. It's like a Toyota "T" or a Honda "H".
The old logo could have been anyone's.

The new tools have USA stamped on the pliers. A significant majority of parts and production has to be done in-house to qualify under new regulations for USA marking.

The previous logo highlights the shape and "multitool" nature of the product and the elliptical "swoosh" indicates the deployment of the tool. The new logo is just dead.
