Title: The great woody multitool picture thread
Post by: Andreas on August 12, 2010, 10:09:23 PM
I love things made of wood, and that includes multitools. Normally that means SAKs and folders/fixed blades, but maybe there are some other EDC gear that's made of wood too. I figured this magic material deserved its own thread, so here goes. I'll start off with some pics, then others can follow.

Indeed, his work is simply awesome and very inspiring. I just bought a Spartan, a Climber and two Classic SDs from eBay that will be de-scaled and woodified when they get here. Have to try to imitate the Thai master. Not that I need any more SAKs, but if they turn out decent maybe I can sell them. I hope to god that's what Taninaree is doing, those masterpieces need to be spread out into the world

Beautiful...simply beautiful. I like how Taninaree's work is more complex than even the stock Victorinox stuff as evinced by all those sexy curves as opposed to the more common flat top.

What are you using to cut out the scales since you get them so perfect off the block, Taninaree? CNC machine, or laser?

Anyways, made a new woody SAK today. Don't know what wood it is, probably flame birch or more likely curly birch. Unfortunately I don't have any magic cutting tools, so these are made by hand, with the imperfections that cause :/

The pics are my basic tools to cuttting wood , Basicly I have offten used the jewelly saw to details cutting.
and used my homework Jig for curve grinding. Then finished good by paper sand.

CNC and Laser cutting are expensive for small volume. I don't have more budget to invest.

Herewith is my work shop. :D

That setup with the spindel is very nice! Looks to be some sort of Dremel, so I should be able to make my own using my dremel. Also have to get one of those saws. Very nice!

Yes , The demel is  good for wood scale mod , I also have one but in my locally the attachement kit pricing are not resonable.

Nice setup.

If you are looking for one on the cheap...

http://www.homier.com/professional-woodworker-1-3hp-flex-shaft-grinder-carver.html

I have this one and it has done me well in the 10+ years I have owned it. I bought it at one of their Tent sales across the border.

If you have a Dremel, you can normally find third party attachments much cheaper. I rarely use Dremel-branded attachments.

Taninaree, how do you attach the chrome shields (metal logo) on the wood scales? Do you coat in epoxy or something, or what do you use to add the finish to the wood?
