Welcome to the forums! Opinion around here does tend to favor the Diesel.

Welcome to the forum mate :)
Here's my review of the Diesel... http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,3544.0.html
I've never had a Flik, but I can recommend the Diesel very highly :)

Great review there! Thanks! Btw, is the Diesel an improved version of the MP600 pro scout? All comments/views appreciated!

It's very similar to an MP600, just bigger and heavier duty :)

Get the diesel mate.

Welcome to the full member club Josh, 900 to go till your in the no life club :D

Now I haven't owned either, but I have handled a Diesel and only from what I have seen, I would go with the Flik. But that's a pretty unpopular choice ATM.

the flick is much smoother opening but the implements seem nicer on the diesel to me.

Go with the Diesel, The toolre better plus its made in the USA :tu:

Total thread necro, but we're ok with that; the Diesel offers a much better rounded toolset, and the screwdrivers (and openers!) are actually usable. The Diesel and FLiK are both Chinese-made.
-
Oh, extreme necro thread. 8) I've got both and I have to say I prefer the Flik. The Diesel doesn't bring much new to the table over the MP600, while the Flik is a very different tool. Now, if the question was Flik or MP600 I might have a different answer...
-
Great necro!
I would choose FliK too over Diesel, but MP400/600 are both even better.
Im saying this even when my Flik was broken in the box, now that it works I like it more. Smaller than Diesel and some nice tools outside.
-
I like the Flik but right now I would suggest the Diesel as the Flik is log since discontinued and would be difficult to find.
Side by side though, I like the Flik better because of the one handed opening blades. I agree with Gareth though, I'd take the MP600 over both of them.

Oh, just to keep this thread period correct I should really recommend a Spirit as being the only MT anyone needs. ;)

I guess we can shut the forum down now. Delete the whole mess and when folks come to Multitool.Org looking for advice on multitools they will just find big block letters saying "Just Buy A Spirit."
Thanks for playing everyone- you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here..... :ahhh

Nah, Spirit is ok, but not durable enough.

I thought the Diesel was Chinese at first too, so I emailed someone at Gerber who told me that it is actually built in Portland. It is confusing though, as Gerber says it's built in Portland, but the package says "Fiskars, made in China" I think there was an issue before where some of the components were imported, so they can't put the USA logo on like the mp series has.
-
That's interesting. I've always thought of the Diesel as wholly Chinese produced. Either way it's still a decent tool, just not my favourite. :D
-
I have found this 2015 catalog here
http://www.tacticalasia.com/content/catalog/2015/Gerber%20Catalog%202015.pdf
It is interesting because I think the US flag near a tool/knife should denote it is US made?????
Comparing it with what I read here on the forum, it seems quite accurate on the models still made in the US.
-
If posting an American flag next to something meant it was made in the US then Taylor would be in a lot of trouble.

Just to update this thread, it is confirmed- the Diesel is USA made.
Info sourced straight from Gerber, and I'm not sure who would be a better authority on where Gerber tools are sourced than that.

American or not it sure looks like a decent, fun tool. So much that I got one last week and it should be on its way to me right now.

Some pics of the seller, they are always nice to have during the wait :tu:. Any comparison with the MP600 series, just to know what to expect?

If you like the MP600 you'll probably like the Diesel. It's kind of like the hotrod version of the MP600.
I like the Diesel a lot.
