Title: New from Maglite the XL100 flashlight
Post by: John on February 20, 2010, 05:21:59 PM
Plenty around the US anyone here have one? I think it's pretty cool and worth a look IMO I know of one vendor in the UK that will have them next week,no price yet but I'd hazard at £50 (will we get robbed again ?) I say that because they're available in the US for $35 right now!,I know where I'll get mine from  ;)

Thx for the heads up, I like it :tu: Mini AA Mag-Lite was my first real flashlight many years ago, it's good to see them introduce new/modern models.

+1 my first light was a 6 c cell maglight back then (late 80's)  it was the DB's here in the UK and I still have my solitaire 20 years on,I don't use it however but this new XL100 has got my interest for sure I really like the UI and of coarse you don't have to use any of the modes if you so wish it also has memory of what mode or level your on  :D

IMO it's a good step forward and I'll bet this will out sell any other flashlight out there,Maglite is sure on a winner with this one, can't wait to test that 201 hours on low figure very impressive if true  :D

I wonder how low, low is

If it's a still usable 5 lumens, I'll be nabbing one for sure :)

Too little too late imo. If this came out 2 years ago, I'd have been impressed.

Not a big fan of 3 AAA lights, its underpowered compared to the rest of the industry. Its pretty sad when my single AAA ITP eos puts out as many Lumens as this and is 1/10 the size.

I'd prefer it in a single cell format too, but I still think it's a step in the right direction :)

Didn't Grant get to play with this at last years SHOT show?  Or am I making that up?

Looks good though. :tu:

Here we go, sounds like the same light to me.

The UI is interesting, I kinda like that, but I think there are better options out there. For the general public this is gonna be a big seller probably.

I have a quark mini 123 on the way, costs about the same, puts out about 2.5X more lumens and is microsopic in size compared to this.

So I agree its a good improvement over previous models, just not up to par with the current technologies.

Yes he did but they weren't out then I believe  ;)

They were a prototype then, and we weren't allowed to take photos of it.  We were barely allowed to hold it if memory serves.

It was a neat idea, but I wonder how useful it would be?  Maybe it's just my type of use that I can see it being awkward, but with all the climbing in, around and under things I do I think it might just prove to be somewhat frustrating to have it constantly changing brightness ever time I twist or turn it to get a better view under something.

I'll probably get one to play with, but I'm honestly not expecting much from it.

I think you have to hold the orange selector for it to change, so simply rotating it wont change brightness. More importantly, can something be done about the text disappearing in the reply box as you type? More specifically, when there is a few paragraphs of text you are typing or replying to, it shifts to an unseeable region of the reply box, and is hard to use.

Agreed  :tu: but try buying a quark in the UK at Tesco? the reason I say it a good step is because Mags are mass produced for all to get their hands on,they even sell at supermarkets here.

I'm not saying they're the best out there but I think they're not far behind lets hope they continue the make Mag flashlight improvement on a more regular basis than before  :tu: remember tho this is Maglite only real step forward for decades and IMO it's all good  :D

[edit] here how it works Def no chance to accidentally change modes,oh it has a lock-out feature too.

Interesting , bout time . I think I'll prolly end up with one . One minor gaff on their part , doesn't appear to have any lanyard attachment . Small lites are too easy to fumble .

Looks interesting and I might end up with one if the price is right. The good thing bout maglite is that they have a good market presence in the UK and I much prefer to not import.

I rather like the nite light function BTW

It looks good and I'm running out of torches at the moment (thanks to my boys ::) ).  I'd pay $35USD but can't imagine paying the UK shelf prices.

If it's any consolation my wee one is good at "borrowing" by torches as well.  My wife found my upgraded mini-maglite under the wee one's pillow the other night. ::)  It's not like she doesn't have her own torches either. >:(

I'd love to know where they've all gone.  Its not like I haven't had a good hunt  :ahhh

Well, I'm glad to see Maglite are bringing themselves more in line with the current market.  Even if that isn't the brightest torch around it looks to have an interesting UI and its hopefully a sign of good things to come.

I'd like to see how to UI holds up after some extended (ab)use.  If it holds up well this could be a fairly good 'go to' torch for around the house, bet it'll cost a fair bit more in the UK than that though.

No more than I was expecting, more than I was hoping for though. :-\  Takes it right out of my "lets give it a try" budget and right into my "it's so fantastic I can't live without it" budget.  Ah well, I'll just have to let you chaps tell me how good it is or not. :tu:

It's not considering you can get one from the states for around £33 shipped but if customs flag it up it could end up costing closer to £50 so £55 aint that bad IMO

Considering the other torches you could get for the same, or even less, money I just can't see it as worth it. :-\  Perhaps time to import one from the States?  I'm sure one of our American friends could be persuaded to pick one up and send it over. :)
