Here's month 4 of my year of different SAK every day...
(month 1 [misc] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,75292.0.html), month 2 [Alox84/85mm] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,75698.0.html) and month 3 [Metal 74mm/Minimalist] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,76240.0.html))
Starting Wednesday 4th of April, I'll be carrying a different 65mm knife every day. They will most likely all be Wengers.
If would really love if someone joined me this month too even though my hopes are not really high in this category
Big thanks again (and congratulations!) to Borg and Thunderpants who joined me in completing a minimalist challenge for my month 3!
I'll keep counting the knives towards my year so 91 to 120 :ahhh
Again, I'll be following the same guidelines I set out in month #2 (copy-pasted below). Not planning any breaks for this month either...
- Carrying/using multiple SAKs simultaneously is ok but we're counting the days and not the knives.
- Need to carry at least one "not carried in this challenge yet" knife every day. (if you're not doing the whole year with me, feel free to reset your list after each month)
- Since this will go on for at least a whole year, breaks are allowed but only due to carry restrictions while travelling or because of hospitalization. Just pick up where you left off once you're back.
- Exact duplicates are allowed but not twice in a row. (do not count as exact duplicates: variations in generations/tool evolution, scale & crest - type & shape & color, wear/damage, inlays/engravings and the likes. Basically, as long as we can tell them apart, it's ok to post them twice in a row). Posting a pic of the duplicates together before carrying them is strongly suggested.
-
Good luck :salute: interested to see what gems you will come out with, i only have 4 or 5 of these..nice little knives
-
I'm saving my energy for the "Different SAK Every Day for 100 Years" badge...
But good luck on this one Syem!
-
good luck, :salute:
I don't even have one SAK in this size

Day 91
Wenger Esquire with what I assume to be nickel-plated brass scales with a Crossair logo. You can see the brass under the slightly worn plating on the left side of the first pic (and on the other identical yet a lot more worn knife on the last pic). Crossair used to be the 2nd airline company In Switzerland before they were absorbed by Swissair shortly before Swissair's untimely demise. I may remember this a bit wrong as I was still quite young when it happened.
I must make amends: I went back through month 1 and dug through my boxes to find and separate the first 30 knives as I knew I used at least 2 65mm knives and wanted to remove them from my pool for this month. As I was doing this I noticed 1 knife that I know I used in month 3. I'll therefore be going back to the month 3 thread and post a different 74mm metal knife tomorrow, as "day 61" because my first instance of day 61 cannot count. I'll be posting day 92 here on Friday. As a way to apologise I'll post a group pic of the first 30 knives in the topic of month 1. :D

That's a beautiful one to start with!
I don't want to know how you store all these treasures... I imagine an old shoe box isn't up to the job!

More like 12 of them :D none of them are shoeboxes... I'll have to find a better solution when I move later this year. For now I lack space so I have to juggle around with categorised boxes.
Day 92

Day 96
Wenger Esquire in dark green with a rounded bottom shield crest and a Basel taxi company ad. Very unlucky phone number if we believe the chinese. Nothing on the back but light scuffing.

Day 97
Victorinox Macao Esquire Switzerland's 700 years Jubilee.
And a pic with his two bigger brothers.
Can't shake the feeling that this logo looks somewhat like part of an owl :D(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180411/a24dc74692a755992615f30fec1354b7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180411/96666e5e5bbd663c0dc89c10af9d6e6a.jpg)

Amazing collection, Syem!
Wasn't that small wooden one made by EKA of Sweden for Wenger? Or have I confused it with something else.
Love the owl!

As I understand it, the knife is Wenger and the scales are EKA. Comes in a Wenger box too...
Thanks :D
I could've called this topic Esquires only but I do have some other ones... I'll have to start taking them out ^^

Day 98

Day 99
Wenger "Rambler for kids"? I seriously can't find the name for this one. It's just like a 65mm version of Vic's Rambler with an old flathead combotool. No SD tip on the nail file. Both the blade and the nail file have rounded tips just like the kids versions of other knives.
I've dug through the wiki and in multiple catalogs but can't find any knife with this exact tool set (even with non-kids blade & file) nor any other kids version of a 65mm for that matter.
Can someone find the name of this guy somewhere?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180414/09222ca0cfafb2e117c44eb844219318.jpg)
-
:like: good luck finding a name for it, although its probably a number, nice find anyway :tu:
-
that's a rare one... ???
-
It's NiB too! I forgot about that fact until it was time to put it back in last night. Label on the box says 1 564 01 but doesn't have a name. I'll call it a 65mm Junior for the record... As its the only junior of this size I've ever seen. Don't know if anyone noticed but the tip of the scissors are also rounded off.
Day 100
Wenger Esquire/Evo-81 with double color Red/Yellow scales. Back scale says Surf Life Saving.

Hope today wasn't a heavy duty day
~ i love whittling and SAK's ~
Well this one is more heavy duty than the others I've been carrying this month... :D
Also, I always have a Spirit in my work bag in case I need something bigger...
But I try to work with these. I've used them quite a lot. Used a nail file's pointy tip to unscrew and open up a laptop. Works quite well in tiny Philips screws. Also used these small blades quite a lot.
-
Day 104
Wenger Evo Crusader
Downsizing from an Esquire... I didn't expect that when I got into this month as I didn't even know I had one :D

Day 106
Wenger Esquire in black Alox
Bit of a late posting, the morning after, but it was an extremely long day and a long night and we both worked hard :D(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180421/7bcebd16beb03a7a7ac6a842a7271257.jpg)

Corkscrew cutout :salute:
I lost my little red Eloxy , loved that little thing >:(
It wasn't the little blue guy that took it as i had it after this pic, this is exactly my issue with small metal scaled saks, they are so easy to lose, i will replace it and the next one will be glued to the shelf :tu:
-
Oh dear, seems rather obvious now that you said it xD
I'd hate to lose such a piece... But these small smooth alox/eloxy knives do have a tendency to easily slide out of pockets... I hope whoever found it cherishes it as much as you will its replacement. :D

Day 107

Nice one, i thought i recognised Meiringen, i have a Spartan from there :tu:
I'm not sure someone else found it as it must have slipped out my pocket in the middle of the woods somewhere, i will go back sometime with my metal detector and scan the area but i'm not 100% confident i will find it, there are NIB ones listed on ebay.de quite often, i will grab one of those sometime although they seem to have doubled in price since i bought mine ::)

I decided to join you for 5 days....starting 5 days ago

Day 108
Wenger Esquire in a kind of saffron yellow with Swibo branding. As I understand it, swibo was a sub-brand of Wenger meant for kitchen knives. Victorinox has kept using this name.
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180422/445aa3211c039cd0a3316fb16cdb4a6f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180422/b9b6c13bfcc917d55cc732bce5414122.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180422/5318991fad3fb4a3ad46aa230891f5c2.jpg)

On looks alone i would go with the Swibo one but that PTC certainly looks like it has a decent tool set :like:

Day 110
Wenger Esquire in translucent blue with Wenger advertising on the front scale. Dunno why I love these meta-knives so much :D

That's actually a perfect definition. Whenever I have to tux up I carry something as glorious as this :D it's not very often but I have done it in the past

Day 112
Wenger Esquire in silver Alox scales. Sitting on a 2 million German marks bank note from 1923 that survived an attic fire.
We're getting near the end soon... Again... I guess I'll keep going smaller and carry 58mm knives this time. They'll have to be mixed as I don't have many Alox and SS 58mm. Maybe I can do 2 months in a row this time? Would anyone care to join me for at least 1 month? Surely someone has 30 58mm knives sitting in a dark corner, waiting to be carried... Wenger Swiss Clipper / NailClip 580 in translucent pink
This little guy actually helped me open a fruity smartphone to replace its broken screen. Love that thin pointy nail file.

:like: I for one don't have 30 58's, and even if i did i don't think i could carry one every day..will look forward to see what you have though :tu:
It is quite en endeavour to change what I'm carrying every day... I'm getting used to it though... There's a routine to it even if every day is different. It might be a bit weird to go back to carrying the same thing every day after that. I do hope that I keep the concept of changing often and adapting to my needs.
Day 114:
Wenger Esquire in white with advertising, a chain and no crest.
Omron is a "Manufacturer of control equipment, factory automation systems, electronic components, automotive electronics , ticket vending machines and medical equipment."

I had never heard of them before carrying this knife :D its such a small world after all!
Day 115
Wenger EVO-81/Esquire. No ad, was NiB but I took good care of it so I still consider it NiB :D(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180429/de1eca11ecfd707af6251aca88fcb695.jpg)

I have left more plastic protectors on scales than I have ever removed so I know where you're coming from... For this challenge I purposefully avoided some knives that still have them.

Wenger Esquire Macao Bordeaux (or red as mentioned in the wiki)

Wenger Bernina Mini Spot Light with the unique seam ripper tool and no blade... Wonder if its TSA safe :D
It's obviously sitting on a couple of rare birds I got today... Well there's 6000 of them... Or rather another 5998 of them around. And I'm guessing a lot of people will be getting them in the very near future.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/1d0ddf6f9854aefaeb0d88dbd08b5c40.jpg)

Day 118
Wenger Esquire which I acquired as part of a lot but had no scales. I recently got my hands on a lot of misc scales and figured I would make something special with this poor little guy. I settled on 2 front scales, one turquoise and the other purple, as they had no matching back scale and together reminded me of the Charlotte Hornets.
I gotta find a set of T&T though... (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180503/334353a0b4105dda0b8e47d3099efc09.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180503/77e4d6d80975fcd4b93a48194ae1d27b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180503/cf953aa59c1e3952de38d35a62f24c61.jpg)

:like: :like: love the Hornets knife! I'm from Charlotte and remember when they were an expansion team in the 80's... got to meet quite a few Hornets over the years... Mugsy, Kelly Tripuka, Dell Curry, Alonzo Mourning, Kendall Gill
Also got to see Michael Jordan and the bulls administer a severe beating to the Hornets in the early 90's.

Awe man, Plum wood and Damast..the sooner my billions come in from Nigeria the better

Growing up in Québec in the 90s I was more about Hockey than Basketball... I'm afraid none of these names ring any bell (except for Jordan of course). The color theme and logo from the Hornets really appealed to me though and I was even wearing a sleeveless sweater with it for some years :D can't say I agree with the logo change though. :/
You're really lucky to have had this opportunity and to have these memories... It was normal at the time but now it's like having seen a mythical beast I remember seeing Wayne Gretzky administer a sever beating to the Nordiques when I was a kid. Well, you'll say back then everyone was doing it but seeing the Kings was something special :D

I'm afraid it'll be too late... They're almost all gone now... The knives AND the millions from Nigeria :D
Also, that pic was more about the Bernina on top of them... I should've known the two shinier things underneath would detract from it :D

Bit of a late posting for...
Day 119
Wenger Esquire Money Clip in silver Alox. Scales and clip are a bit beaten up but I like it the way it is and the tools are in perfect shape. Used the clip more as a pocket clip though.

:like: Very nice! :tu:
-
Sounds silly i know but i left the plastic protector on mine for months, eventually i took the front one off but kept the back on :tu:
I have left more plastic protectors on scales than I have ever removed so I know where you're coming from... For this challenge I purposefully avoided some knives that still have them.
Day 116
Wenger Esquire Macao Bordeaux (or red as mentioned in the wiki)

It is an EKA... It was on day 4 (the group shot is in chronological order).
You mean to say you want to trade me 30vs1 so a total of 150 knives for the 5 with golden edges? I'm afraid it won't be enough :D
I'm still looking to complete my Lithos bunch BTW.
Also I carried another one of these Macao in month 1 so I've got 6 in total... I think
They're pretty hard to find so I wish you to find some :D
-
The group pic is fantastic! :like: :like: :like:
-
The red Macao is stunning, that and the blue Granite one is probably my favourites so far, i saw a shop with 4 or 5 of the Granite ones but the only way i could pay was to e-mail them my bank details, i love them..but not that much, who knows..maybe one day he will accept a more secure payment method, till then they can stay on his shelf ::)
-
OMG too much awesome in that group pic :o :like:
-
Thanks for your answers guys!
I just realised I forgot to post my conclusion/thoughts on these 65mm
- the Alox ones are extremely easy to carry, super thin and light but easy to use as you get a bit of a better grip on them than on Vic's 58mm Alox.
- the Evo scales add a lot of bulk and dont really help that much. Looks are good but the Alox looks even better.
- I really love the Macao and Lithos series; must get more Lithos but that blue is already gorgeous! My favorite Macao is the 700 even though they're all awesome. I was exited to get Vic De Luxe series knives but they don't look half as good as these!
- I've always preferred the mechanism of the Wenger scissors and I confirm: they're much better and their serrations make them cut much better over time than their vic counterparts
- much better choice of colors than Vic (excluding special and limited editions)
