The Chuck Yeager Challenge has successfully completed with a whole month of watching the Executive in action! Thanks NorCalJim. I had fun with this challenge, and even traveled with the Executive. It meet some challenges I didn't expect to come up (like unlocking a bathroom stall that was locked from the inside). Now that we're into November, is time to relax. By the way, I carried my beloved Explorer today, and haven't even used it.
My regard has grown significantly for this very useful Swiss Army Knife--it packs big utility in a small package!
I enjoyed the month-long Chuck Yeager Challenge and would like to have a topic area for those who enjoy using the Executive to display its beauty and utility. In launching this topic, the Executive Lounge, I am inviting Executive owners to continue to share their Executives in action, pose them, or use your imagination as the mood strikes. :)
Here are some photos of my new Executives to start things off...

Mine is back in my pocket today!
I ground off the Key chain attachment on the red version for EDC purposes.
I think the black-scaled Executive will keep it's keychain attachment, enabling me to wear it on a neck lanyard during fishing expeditions. I'll have to see how that goes. Might end up grinding that keychain thing off as well.
Mine is back in my pocket today!
As is mine, Barry. Such an easy SAK to slip into the pocket.
So....when you say "mine", does that mean you've officially purchased one and are a legitimate member of the Executive Lounge? Or have you stolen your son's and are a sort of Pirate Interloper here? :duel:

Beautiful pic Mini!
Thanks Nix and Mini :hatsoff:
Awesome thread. Reminds me of the 74mm thread we had here years ago :)
I, too, think it would fun for Vic to produce some Executives and Ambassadors with patterned and themed scales. 'MacGyver Red' will always be my favorite, but there's no reason not to have some fun with these cool knives. I could see an entire line of Ambassadors with Country or City themes. "Why, yes, this my Kenyan Ambassador!"
+1!! I'd really love to see them try a Minichamp in 74mm. There's so many possibilities with this size, and it still carries like it's not even there.
Excellent Executives! :tu:
OK, so there needs to be an Executive with scales made to look like the peel of an orange, maybe with a few trompe-l'œil dew drops. I know it's dead obvious; I'm just sayin'.....

Nix, I have carried my exec. every day since I got it. It is a great little knife. I like it so much that I got my hands on a mini champ to keep it company. Those two ride in my left shirt pocket and never argue at all. The only thing is that now makes 5 knives in my EDC...............
Anyway I thank you again kind sir. :salute:
Nice pair of Sunday Tools. :tu:
Great shot, Poncho.
I especially like the 'love marks' on those Celidor scales. :tu:

Just found a vintage exec w/ Victoria stamp. It's definitely seen some use. Pics to come
No key ring, aluminum tweezers. I noticed the tip of the nail file is a little bit different shape. I would like to polish this one up it's in pretty decent condition except for some aggressive sharpening on the large blade

this one too ;)
Nascar remind me the combo that I'm using during last months. This jetbeam use one AA battery. Generally I add a 91 or 84mm sak
Hi ya all
would love to carry one of these occasionally, trouble is, most of them are old as the hills (notice the one-branch springs on the scissors) and too precious to tote along.
actually, I have a beaten-up one for Edc. The unique orange peeler tool works wonders.
Ambassador. A very fine 74mm that just discreetly blends into the background until called upon to assist :tu:

Now that the CYC2 Challenge is over, I thought that it would be nice to continue to share photos and narratives about our Executives.
:like:. Great idea NorCal! My Executive is still riding with me. I love my full sized SAKs, but after CYC2 and FoBo's challenge, I love carrying my smaller knives.
As I've mentioned many times, I've been EDCing an Executive for as long as I can remember. I also keep a Classic on my keyring.Pair up...is their a club for that??? SAK pairs?
My biggest challenge is deciding on whether to pair my Executive with a Cadet or Pioneer. Lately, it's been a Pioneer.

Peruse through these threads and you'll find that the Exec is quite capable!
I think the biggest task I've done with the Exec is cutting up a whole chicken. But, I'm sure somebody has built a cabin or restored a vintage Buick with one, too. ;)
I believe the 74mm models used to be advertized as lady's knives :)

Good evening. I have been carrying my black scaled Executive for around five months now and I am really enjoying it. It has performed admirably and never let me down. The handles are starting to get worn and scratched with use. I was wondering if anyone here knows of any supplier of custom scales for this size. There seem to be lots of people selling custom scales for the 58mm or the 91mm sizes, but only the red & black cellidor ones for the executive. ThanksYou may have more luck finding a used model with smooth Alox scales, pretty sure there a quite a lot of those in circulation.
Went camping in the Poconos, with my Executive and Kabar Dozer Hunter folder.
Nice!

Used the Executive to tighten a loose screw on my pantry door.Very nice usages and I see someone is a CheezIt fan! :like:
I have been carrying the Executive as my sole knife for the most part. Sometimes, if I'm going out and don't feel like carrying my Glock 19, I'll grab my Benchmade AFO II, as my defense weapon. The Executive still rides along.
I will admit that I recently bought a brand new Victorinox Recruit, and am waiting on it to arrive. There have been a few times where the Executive just wasn't big enough for a given task.
I am going to try the Recruit and Cadet I recently bought. See if one of those serves me better, while still being light in the pocket.
The lack of scissors is always my downfall. I love my Pioneer X, but it is a bit bulky in the pocket. Not terrible, but I have tried downsizing.
It might just turn out, at this particular point in my life, I'm just not ready for anything less than the venerable ol' Pioneer X. I definitely don't require anything bigger. The need for my Leatherman tools has passed, I am sure.
I have a hard time deciding between the Recruit and Cadet. The Recruit has the tweezers and toothpick, which I do use.
The Cadet has the nail file, which I use probably even more than the tweezers or toothpick.
Neither have back side tools, of which I am not a fan of. Hate backside tools. One problem I continue to have with the Executive, I am always turning and flipping it around, trying to find the tool or blade I'm seeking. Haha
In any case, the Executive was the first one I reached for this morning. I keep a select few SAKs and knives in my kitchen drawer...

I feel the same about the Px being a tad too bulky.Nice :like:
I love my Pioneer, Soldier and Cadet though.
To compensate the lack of scale tools and scissors I always carry a SwissCard light in my wallet. Mind you though that i do never sit on my wallet. I'm not sure it would survive that :D
The SwissCard light's scissors are the same size like the ones on the Executive. But they're a bit cumbersome to use.

Thanks, VICMAN!
I have found that the Executive is really all the knife I NEED on a daily basis. Sometimes it is accompanied by either my JE Made slippy, Benchmade Griptilian (sporting AWT OD Green scales...) or AFO II.
I like to play with those knives but they are not really needed. The Executive seems to have what I require. Believe it, or not, that little blade can do some serious damage to cardboard. Even the thick, heavy duty stuff!!
A quick touch up on my Victorinox diamond sharpener pen, and that blade is back up to snuff. I carry it with me every day as well

Sorry if this has been discussed but couldn't find anything here. I read that the 74mm SAK line is now discontinued. Is that true?

Smooth Alox Executive:
Just arrived - my new Executive.
I have been a little disappointed in my 91-93mm SAKs because the tools are too stiff, and I wanted something bigger than my 58mm SAKs. I've been wanting to try a 74mm, but they're hard to find. I finally found this discontinued 74mm SAK at Walmart online. It's exactly what the doctor ordered :tu:
A quick question to you Executive owners - Since I don't need an orange peeler, are there any other good uses for that tool?

Being the Executive Lounge, I hope we at least get gold-plated Cellidor® membership cards or something...

Hi guys... I've an Executive arriving tomorrow and its my first sub 91mm SAK...Congrats on your new Executive, Jmoita. I'm probably gonna be in the minority here but, in my opinion, the screwdriver on the orange peeler isn't strong enough to handle anything but moderate loosening/tightening duties.
I'm curious about the uses you guys give to the "orange peeler" besides peeling duty...
Does it cut boxes nicely?
Is it strong for small screws?
What other uses do you give to it?
Yes (challenge lurker here) that Chuck Yeager Challenge has ignited my curiosity for the elusive executive. I’m very happy to say that I will soon be able to officially participate in this club! :ahhh
:mail:
Still trying to figure out the orange peeler... Serrations are dull, maybe I will create new ones when possible. Nice to open boxes by force, no very good for smaller plastic containers. Small blade to the rescue, but one must be careful when using to much force. Scissors being smaller than 91mm are still very good!
Use the inside pointy end of the peeler to punch the first hole in a clamshell package. After that, use the serrations part to cut the rest open.
It's awlso a nice small scrapper.
Very exciting to finally stretch my legs in this club lounge!
Really like the feel and weight of this model and the black scales will go great with my tuxedo :D
new condition and got it for only $20:woohoo:
Think I saw that on eBay?Yes sir eBay. I’ve been wanting one of these for so long and oh boy has it lived up to my expectations! I’m now understanding why it’s a favorite of so many.
Certainly didn't last long.
Nice score!
Found another use for the enigmatic orange peeler:a great use and a great tip! That’s too bad that you broke your leg I too know the ol’ garbage bag and tape routine as I broke my leg a few years ago as well. It’s no fun at all! Wishing you a speedy recovery my friend!
I broke my leg last week and had it repaired surgically. Can't get the splint wet, so it's the ol' garbage bag and tape routine before it get in the tub. Well the orange peeler worked splendidy as a saftey-blade to slip between the tape and my skin when it was time to cut the bags off. Felt safer than using the scissors even, with their pointy tips and all.
The Executive was already my EDC, and I'm proud to call it my companion through the rest of my recovery.

Used the Director's orange peeler to... peel an orange! First time I tried it.

Very classy Petey! I use one of those S clips too.
Too bad they have been discontinued. Really like the size plus the orange peeler is great for opening boxes. Here is one I just added some new scales on. Think the line would have last longer if they offered more tool options or added scale options with ink pens or like this both toothpick and tweezers in a single scale.:like:
:like:
Those are some great scales! Where did you find them?

Shapeways, like the site. Has a lot of options for Leatherman and Victorinox. North C Utility is the maker. I am not affiliated with the maker or anything.

BTW, has really anyone ever pealed an orange with it? Ever?
BTW, has really anyone ever pealed an orange with it? Ever? You have to, if only to try it out.
I always have a beaten Executive in my toiletries case, but just on Sunday I decided to EDC my good Executive in my Skinth Toolet, in a place where a folder or 1-3 layers SAK may also be carried.

Nice work pa_strunk! :like: :like:
Pretty much all of us doing the Chuck Yeager challenge!
Thanks for the comments guys. Think this knife is just perfect for EDC around the home or office. Also pairs great with any of the larger MT's that do not have scissors. Peeler does a surprising job on packaging tape. For my next project I am thinking about making a Spydernox version with some Wenger tools as well. Still in the planning phase for now.
I had never modded 74mm until now, decided I better give it a try while you can still find a few of them. Had to sacrifice a rally SAK for the combo tool and back spring off a donor that was part of a SAK lot I recently picked up on eBay. Phillips screwdriver this size is super useful to me for kids toys and whatnot. Happy with results so far.I don't know how I missed this earlier, but I love it! :hatsoff:
When I get home later I'll send you pictures.Awesome
Antti, here you are. If you need any other pictures let me know. That is what i just needed and that confirmed my suspicions right that gut hook also went some changes like serrations.

One last thing, I forgot to say earlier. A nifty reason to have a Victorinox rambler or modify your executive like this is the super snug fit you get using the Leatherman bit adapter. Works great.I've seen this one posted somewhere recently and really makes me want to make a MidiChamp version.
The more I use and carry the Executive (and its cousin the Ambassador) the more it pains me that these models weren't more popular. Yeah, the 74mm is a bit larger than the 58's, but not so much that it won't still fit in the fifth pocket of a pair of jeans. Yet it gives you so much more handle to grab on to than the Classic based knives. In my mind, this should be the size that's hanging from everyone's keychains.

I agree. I really wish that Victorinox would have made a MidiChamp in the 74mm line.
