I just received one this morning. I don't know what is the intended use of that round hole at the bottom.

a button compass, as seen in other more expensive models.
I tried glueing there a lens taken from a disposable camera, and it sort of worked for a week in my wallet, then it fell.

I think it's an unwritten rule that everyone has to have had one of those at some point. :D

I too have one of those Dealextreme-card-tools :think: Bought several of them to put them in geocaches... I never used mine, but still have it.
I have another one, which I never used :think:. It is a "Fox survival tool". It is better build, but the only things that are useful in my eyes are the can opener and the bottle opener. I have no idea what the "saw-scrape scales" on the right side are good for (not sharp at all). One side is supposed to be magnetic so you can use it as a compass if you pull a string through the hole in the middle (don't know if it actually works).

I wondered about the hole at the bottom too. They called it a Direction Ancillary Indication :think:
A quick google found this:
While it may seem implausible, you can actually create a compass by rubbing wire,paperclip or a pin through
your hair, despite the fact that your hair is not magnetic and the normal magnetizing procedure involves
rubbing metal against a magnet. To use you need to place the tool on a flat surface on the plastic sleeve
that it comes with. Place a couple drops of water in the Orientation Direction Indicator to make level with the
surface of the tool. Place the magnetized hair-rubbed wire slowly on the water or on a small leaf if it wont
float on the waters surface tension. It should slowly align north/south.
I wouldn't throw away your GPS or compass but might be worth a try in an emergency :D

This kind of tool has always been of those things that gives me mixed feelings. They all seem like great ideas but packaged together and the tools don't function as efficiently if they were fewer. Like the wrenches, you could seriously hurt your hands on the side with the saw when trying to apply leverage. It's kind of like an Atwood Wildcard but more functions and it's sole purpose was to slam as many functions into that tool as possible.

Here's my contribution found by my dog in the undergrowth whist searching for truffles,just kidding on the truffles ;) as the only truffles found where I live is dog poop truffles "NOT EDIBLE" they're everywhere :ahhh :D

@Bob how old? well from some research we did awhile back we got it to 1983 :tu:
@Turnstone you're right to a point as this can be carried without the handle in the wallet ;) but ideally you would carry it in a pouch with the handle,so yes and no! ;) :tu:
