I finally received all of my pieces to assemble my new EDC flashlight/lighter and i'm lovin it!
I am not much of a flashlight collector, but I love EDC and I have been into a brass fetish lately and started smoking cigars again.. so this little thing checked all of my boxes.
It's the DQG Hobi PLUS 10180 XP-G2 USB Rechargeable Mini LED Flashlight, which is sold as a tiny keychain flashlight with the 10180 battery but really its a modular system. I haven't seen much mention of it here.
I also got the DQG Lighter 2.0 with 3 extension tubes plus one extension with incomplete hole and connected them together.
now it holds double the fuel capacity and takes a 10440 battery.
it's a nice color beam with 3 settings. 3.5LM,15LM,120LM

I did age the brass a bit to have it blend in with my other EDC quickly.
as you can see its nice and slim and not much bigger than a fisher space pen.
my EDC for the past year

That is awesome and you truly have more skills than I do. I’m not trying to be downer, but be a bit careful ok? Not sure if having any extended flame or heat exposure could make the battery leak or explode.
I’m not an engineer so maybe I’m a bit overly cautious. Just don’t want you to lose your fingers 😉

The idea of a multitool is of a tool that can perform more than one function, by design. A hammer, a screwdriver with a few bits, a light that just lights are not considered multitools.
Nice looking light.

Nice looking light.
but this does perform more than one function, its a flashlight that is also a lighter! and a tool that I use both functions multiple times a day at work and play.
any extended flame or heat exposure could make the battery leak or explode.
it seems pretty safe, the flame is opposite end of the flashlight separated by one of the extensions that has a solid brass wall, what they call an "incomplete hole" meaning the hole doesn't go all the way through.
I also used locktite on the sections that I don't want to come apart and some plumbers pipe sealant on the section that I open to refill the lighter. each section also has Orings so its water tight.

Frank,
I vote it is a multitool. Reasoning is the same as yours. :)
Thank you for posting in detail about it! I also carry a flashlight and lighter, so that is an appealing combo.
Playing devil's advocate, some members on MT.o will consider it a multi-functional device and not an MT. Some do not consider a light source as a tool. Which I understand, but tend not to agree with.
But, in a modern sense of what a tool is, it should be considered a multitool..IMO of course. :tu:

It looks very nice. :like:
A rose, by any other name.... would still smell just as sweet.

i feel that lighters and flashlights are both tools on their own.
here are some tool deffinitions that fit well imo.
1. a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task
2.an instument used in performing an operation or necessary in the practice of a vocation or profession. a scholar's books are his tools
so if we can establish that a flashlight and a lighter can each fit the deffinition of a tool, and combining both into one package has it fit the deffinition of a multitool.
then i guess that descibes it and I can include it in my collection of MTs.

Hmm, idk if I'd want lighter fluid that close to battery acid...
Cool Idea all the same though

What exactly is the problem with having a lighter near a battery? ???
The best of MY limited knowledge says that there are no safety concerns with this particular configuration, so if someone can explain to me that would be great.

I can’t see a problem
Nice flashlight/ lighter :like: :tu:

Well, it's just a personal phobia. I used to handle leaky batteries at an old job of mine. Looks like a cool idea for an mt though. Could it fit in altoids survival kit?

There are different kinds of batteries. :tu: What kind did you work with?
Eneloops? If I threw one in the fire, I would be fairly confident that there would be no boom. ;) a puff maybe.
I believe that Walley is using lithium batteries? if they are a good brand and not over-stressed, no leakage should happen.
I believe he said the battery compartment is completely separate from the lighter portion anyway. :tu:
