Gerber was nice enough to send us a Center[Drive to give away... but it's not just any Center-Drive, this is the only Multitool.org Center-Drive in existence, and what's even cooler is that it could be YOURS!
What makes it a Multitool.org Edition Center-Drive? Well, as you can see, this is the full set up with sheath and bit set, so it's got all of the bases covered there... but wait.... is that something on the blade? I can see something through the cutouts... is it? Could it be?
I think...?
Maybe?
Yes.
Yes it smurfing well is!
The Multitool.org logo laser etched on the blade!
How cool is that? And, as I said, it is one of a kind!
And it could be yours!
But you are going to have to work for this one.... >:D
I have asked three Moderators a series of ten questions. I will ask one question here every day for the next ten days. Each of you will have about 24 hours to answer the question (only one answer per member, so consider your answer well!), and if your answer matches any one of the Moderators' answers then you get a point.
Each day when I ask a new question I will also post the results (points) from the previous day. At the end of ten days, the member with the most points wins. In the event of a tie we will do a tie breaker of some sort, because as I said, there's only one prize. And this is it:
Without wasting any further time, here is Question 1:
What is the one function you want to see most added to a multitool that isn't currently offered?
Def
-
I'll start the ball rolling then
I'd say, a component system multitool where you can add just the tools you want and easily replace any broken/damaged ones.
-
Cool give away boss! And thanks to Gerber for helping MTO out for it 11th anniversary.
-
Full size scissors.
-
Very cool prize and GAW, boss!
:salute: :tu:
Ok, thinking of every tool we've already seen in a MT, what's the one tool not yet currently offered?...
Easy peasy, you gave that answer already today: a tampon dispenser!

In my opinion, a stand alone EDC multitool has to have scissors. I have to carry a SAK with most pliers based multitools because they lack that feature. The Rebar with scissors would cover just about anything I would need.

What multitool would you carry in the Zombie Apocalypse?
Victorinox Swisschamp - because it has practically everything needed, and the most importantly: The Fish Scaler!
(Apocalypse or not, you gotta eat and in an event like that, fishing is probably most easiest source of food)
And a :tu: for a great giveaway! :D

Leatherman Charge
For it being OHO.
-
Leatherman Surge
-
I vote, and I'd carry, the ST300
:salute:
-
I'm gonna pander and say - a Center Drive!
-
Assuming the that you already have a heavy cutting tool like a machete, axe or tomahawk I'm going to have to go with team SAK on this.
A large model like the SwissChamp/S54 has the largest variety of usable tools without being so largest to be unwieldy in the hand. The big thing that you would sacrifice would be full size pliers which you can always scavenge an actual set of pliers.
So that is my answer a champion class SAK

A Classic was good when kids were small, then as they got older, a larger SAK or two became required to handle most repairs and fixes, now they are adults a plier MT is required, toys are bigger, plus now a SAK as they have kids as well, PawPaw fixes anything that needs fixin'.
Shucks, I carry a full tool kit with English / metric tools in pick up along with a bike rack to do the job no matter who I am visiting.

Unless you are saying that they would be in line with your thinking :D ;)

Ha Ha, I tried using someone else's preference and missed.
I said ST300, but no, it was MP600, my personal first thought.
I said Coyote Tan, my favorite is color is orange.
So, experience can be personal, and it just may be the same as a few others.
We maybe more alike in thought than we think ?!?!

Not certain who are all moderators, but since this place clicks do well, the best answer is all are favorites.

But, with three more questions, including today's, anyone currently on the board has the ability to defeat him!
Here's today's question, and remember, your answers need to match the Moderator's Answers! :pok:
If you could have an hour long chat with anyone in the Multitool Industry, who would it be and what would you ask them?
Good luck everyone!
Def
-
Tim Leatherman.
What would he change and does he have any new designs himself?
-
Please don't beat me, I'm just a poor nice lonely Canadian!
Tim Leatherman. I'd ask him if there's any part of the company he'd change now.

Don't worry. I am just playing to play. I love games like this during the MTO anniversaries.
Best of luck Dmac and to everyone else.
-
I'm torn between asking Les Stroud what it feels like to have endorsed one of the most embarassingly pathetic multitools of the last 10 years, and whether the payout was worth being totally discredited and becoming an international laughing stock,
or
asking Tim Leatherman at what point in his mind, did they peak in terms of dedication to tool quality, and decide to start compromising tool integrity as cost savimg exercises to boost sales and protect margins.
I'll go with Leatherman :tu:
-
My buddy Poncho is the best mod.

Carl Elsener Jr. ... I'd ask him how we here at MTO can help Victorinox improve and come up with awesome products and suggest ground breaking ideas. It would a shame to waste abundant talent and resources we have available...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Carl Elsener Jr... I would ask him why Victorinox hasn't done anything like syph has done on a shoe string budget...
Also why Victorinox has done what it did in the last half century. Like why Grey mag to clear mag? Why drop the bottle opener scraper? Etc. Inquiring minds what to know!
-
Carl Elsener Jr. - ask if he has any second thoughts about taking over Wenger and then burying the only source of real creativity in the SAK industry and why he didn't keep at least some of their designers/engineers to breathe some new life into Victorinox. At some point combinations and permutations of the same set of tools bogs down growth.
-
Def - These are really great questions - Well done mate - And promoting some very intersting debate
And I gotta say Derek, 50', dks, lichan, pablo and probably evryone else so far for this question.
Good questions - But - Harsh, Harsh, Harsh - And ..... these questions have to be asked.
So for me and I'm going to give my answer this time - So no second guessing the mods - And not so harsh
But I gotta ask Tim - The MT father.
"Was there any time during that 1977-1983 period, after dozens of prototypes and failures, and dearth of customers, that you felt like packing it all in?"
Note to us - And if he had ...... Our world as we know it - i.e. MTo etc etc - would not exist :o
And of course for the next hour ...... all the follow on chat about how it all panned out given that he did not give up :D
-
I would ask Carl Elsener if they have ever been the thinking of the possibility to custom order a SAK or at least have some option on which tools you want in it. And if they have, why that never became reality
It's not failure if you learn something from it
-
Tim Leatherman -
Why does the Rebar tool not have a date code marking inside the handles?

2. Does he prefer hard cider to beer?
3. And, last how much did his last name contribute to the success of his business?

I'd ask Tim Leatherman what his favorite SAK is. :)
-
Tim for me as well, he was so nice when I met him and I'd ask all the questions I couldn't the last time...
- Did you ever think of making non-plier based multitools? (ala SAK)
- How do you see the future of Multitools? Directions it'll take?
- What's the best/most moving story someone told you about your tools? (saved a life, got someone out of a fire, etc.)
and a couple hundred more :D
-
Again, we need to think Who the 3 selected mods would like to meet, and, What questions They would like to ask..
You need to think like an MTO mod, so I suggest consuming some alcohol first....

What multitool would you carry in the Zombie Apocalypse?
KHHI Scourge + LM Surge
If your favorite multitool was available in any color you wanted, what color would you get?
perditious purple
What is the one multitool you have always wanted but never got (at least not yet)?
LM MUT or Signal, still undecided which is more awesome
What is the reaction of people around you when you pull out your multitool to do something?
Do you always carry that thing? Usually when invited over to dinner, I whip out the Charge TTi's blade and the guy's wife has a fit. She insists I use her dull steak knives...
What mutitool are you the least fond of?

I think it's a trick question  if you answer you don't need pliers, you don't win the point, getting you no closer to a PLIER based multitool ;)
I figured it out
But, I guess those folks won't be missing out if you really think about it  :pok: wow. That was philosophical for a Saturday morning...

Unscrewed, since I have no pliers to screw any bolts.
Yes, decided to answer the final question just for gigs.

I am not, as I am not using pliers, I am using a MULTITOOL! At minimum a wire cutter.

Well, it appears that we have a two way tie, between Derek and Nate!
Congratulations guys, but as there is only one prize we can only have one winner.

How do we break this tie?
My first thought was a fight to the death, but it just seemed like too much effort to find a venue, get the plane tickets, promote the event as a Pay Per View and have to explain to either of your families that you were killed in a no holds barred fight to the finish over a set of really cool pliers, so instead I flipped a coin.....

over and over again as a distraction until I was able to come up with a proper method of determining a winner!
I will ask one more question, and the first one of you to get it right will win- but, here's the catch, you can only answer one at a time! Each time you answer, you will have to wait for the other to post an answer before you can try again!
The question is:

Noticed that. Leatherman died out of new ideas instead of listing to their customers?
-
Leatherman is a victim of their own success, plain and simple.
They aren't hungry anymore, and it seems the main customers they are listening to are the mindless zombie fanboys on their FB page. There's no reason to improve any more because the feedback they are getting is that they are wonderful, they will always be wonderful and they can do no wrong.
I think that the R&D department at Leatherman needs to spend a few weeks studying Multitool.org and what folks here are saying they want- for example, more versions of knifeless tools for the ever increasing places where knives are unwelcome.
Sooner or later they will come to their senses and realize that they are missing something and they will work hard until they get it back. Until then we'll have to deal with things like barely functional tool bracelets. ::)

I think LM should have a look at what happened to BlackBerry...
I love my LM tools, I really do! They really should listen, look and learn from what the members here are saying. I know in the grand scheme of things we are a small group to them, but we are a very knowledgeable group, and we know what works, and what doesn't.
I respect Gerber for not putting out things like the Tread. They seem to be sticking more to their roots, and improving on the great tools they already have. I don't have the CD in hand yet, but everything I've read or viewed makes me believe that it'll be everything I wanted the MP600 to be, and right now the MP600 is one of my favourite MT's.

Well, they won't listen to us simply because every sentence here ends with ...and it should be cheaper.
That said, LM is evolving and with the Signal they made a bigger step than most realize. Personally, I'm looking forward to 3 gen Wave, based on the Signal.

I got to see a CD in a package today, and it made me even more excited that I won it! It looks like it's going to become my EDC MT.
I love my MP600, but the super short drivers, and the inside blades made me not carry it as much as I would have liked. The extra reach on the CD, and the great looking main blade made me drool in the store! lol

OK, so initial impressions. The bit driver seems fantastic! The MT is very comfortable in my hand when using the bit driver. The inside tools are easy to get to, and the spring loaded pliers help with that. They also have a nice snap when closing them.
The main blade though... The thumb hole had very sharp edges, to the point I was worried about cutting my thumb. I used the diamond file on my TTi to smooth them out, but it still needs a bit of work. The lock is also very hard to engage. It won't engage just by opening it with my thumb, I have to really pull back on the blade. The lock doesn't slide very far either, only about half the thickness of the lock slides over the blade.
Overall I think the CD will be a big hit for me. I'll give it a good workout, and report my findings later on.
Thanks again to Grant, MTO and Gerber!! :hatsoff:
